I'm aware that all of the out of town Yelpers who are from more ethnically diverse places may be disappointed but Dons is by far the best Mexican I have had anywhere in Wyoming. First of all the salsa and chips are perfect. Super delicious flavorful salsa and the chips are always warm. They bring you out a little dish of bean dip too which is also delicious. The tortilla soup is so flavorful and perfect size for a lunch or dinner when you have a smaller appetite. I would definitely recommend it. Anytime I have visited the food comes out hot and fast.

I was unfortunate enough to have my bike break down on our recent vacation, but lucky enough to have a HD dealership close by. We stopped by and dropped off bike and they suggested we stop at Don Pedros for lunch. Wait a minute, did they say Don Pedros as in Mexican. I was in Wyoming and I didn't think they had any Mexicans. As a matter of fact since I am I thought I was the closest thing. I was wrong. We ordered and enjoyed a nice meal. The chips were good, the salsa and bean dip thingy was very tasty and everything was good. our food came and while it wasn't 5 star Food Network quality food it was pretty dang good. No complaints here and left full and satisfied. Service was a little slow, but they were also crowded so that is acceptable. If anyone is in the area and thinks twice about eating here then I suggest you do.

  • Kristal V.

Rating to Wyoming standards. Don Pedros is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Sweetwater county. Of course food in small-town Wyoming doesn't stand up against the Mexican restaurants in California, but Don Pedros sure puts up a fight. The atmosphere is great, decor is inviting and relaxing. SALSA, SALSA, SALSA!!!! When visiting Wyoming I will go to Don Pedros just to get the huge tub of salsa and chips to go. Delicious!!! Enchiladas a la creama is my favorite. Chicken salads are always great!

  • Emily Z.

My fiancé and I went to Don Pedro's last Sunday. I agree with everyone else when it comes to the food. Not bad, but not amazing. Just average. In Don Pedro's defense, all the Mexican restaurants in the Rock Springs/Green River area fall into the average or below category. We have lived here a year and have yet to find a Mexican restaurant that compares to the authentic mexican cuisine we have had in the past. I give Don Pedro's four stars because of their comfortable, well decorated atmosphere (decorated well for Wyoming,) lack of blaring Mariachi music, and best of all the wonderful service we got. The food may only be average, but good service goes along way with us.

  • Cyndi J.

Mexican is perhaps my favorite cuisine, so I have a discerning taste for this food. Don Pedro's is pretty average. The service is usually good, and the food is never bad. It's just not out-of-this-world (and for me, if I can't eat out-of-this-world food, why bother with the calories!). I usually have fajitas, which are acceptable, but lack bold flavor, or the beef flautas, which are passable, but sometimes overly salty. The salsa isn't stellar, it's a little watery and doesn't have much heat. The margaritas, even the top shelf ones, are clearly made with a mixed sweet-and-sour, not a "real" margarita to me. Green River is severely deprived of restaurants, so if you're looking for a decent meal that isn't a chain, this is it. They can also accommodate big groups easily.

  • Ryan B.

Door says they close at 9:00 PM? Good luck eating there after 8:30. We were told that the only food left was "rices and beans" by a hostess with a puzzled look on her face. Food is mediocre, as we've eaten there before...but this is a sleepy little town and not much happens after sundown. This was a rude way to be greeted after 7 hours of driving and an exhaustive search for places to eat in a town with little to offer.

  • Jeffrey C.

If you are staying in Green River, this is the only place to go. I have never had a bad meal or left hungry. Is it the greatest mexican in the world? No, but it may be the best in Wyoming!

  • Serena C.

Bland, overpriced, and service lacking. I won't go back.

  • Ashley A.

Being from Texas it's hard for me to compare Mexican restaurants. I wasn't that impressed with the scenery and asked for a margarita w grand marnier and it tastes like they didnt also put tequila in it. Got tortilla soup and it wasn't great. Had no flavor at all. Unfortunately whenever I'm in Green River if I feel like eating out there aren't many choices but I doubt I'll be trying this place out again.

  • Lynne H.

I agree that CA mexican food is the best but after trying many places that were terrible in Colorado, this place was suprisingly good. The salsa could have been spicier but it was at least real pico. Definately impressed since this town is pretty small. I would definaltely go back again.

  • IB V.

Went to this place with my brother a few days ago. Food is very bland and they couldn't make any real hot salsa (suggested that I use the bottle on the table to make their stuff hotter). Kind of get spoiled in CA where good Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
