The Bread Basket Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This little deli is such a gem. We came at lunch time and it was pretty busy but not overly packed. The building is charming, and the decorations are as well. They make their own breads and sell other deli-type things like jams and whatnot. They have a sandwich counter and their sandwiches are chock-full of delicious veggies. They also served a side of dill pickles, which were excellent. Try the garlic cheddar bread if you're into that sort of thing (I certainly am!).

I'd love to rate this place better, because the employees seemed awesome, but I can only describe my lunch as "unfortunate." The sourdough tasted like day-old white bread and the chocolate eclair was stale. Maybe just a bad experience, but not one I'd care to repeat.

Old skool corner bakery run by really friendly folks located in a beautiful classic downtown neighborhood. This is where the locals go! There's about 5 tables inside and there is outdoor seating seasonally, but primarily caters to grab 'n go folks. Great assortment of homemade pastries, the cheese Danish is fantastic. They have sandwiches made to order on their wide variety of freshly baked breads. Also available are non-bakery items like the unbelievably good biscuits and gravy. It is right-sized, consisting of one large split biscuit covered in magic goo. That one is the real deal, with plentiful, large chunks of sausage in the off-white gravy full of sausage flavor goodness. I was told that after 11am they have sloppy joes and other items and I noticed that they had on their specials board a 'cabbage burger'. I'd love to try that out. It's a real bakery, so they also have pies, cookies and cakes too, all made on premises. A definite must-visit if you are passing through Cheyenne. The prices are really reasonable, too. 3 pastries, one B&G, a coffee and an OJ running only $11. Can't do that at McBucks.

I am a local and can't believe everyone rates this place so highly! Not that everything is bad, it's just nothing is very GOOD. Another reviewer put it best when she said everything is bland. Amen. The cookies are okay, but frankly I'd rather have grocery store pastries. Sandwiches are okay but nothing special. Breakfast burritos, average, biscuits and gravy, meh....you get the point. This place is not 5 stars or even 4. I'm being generous with 3 stars. 2.5 would fit best.

  • Jacquie G.

I give it a 3 because of staff and good variety of pastries. The breakfast is not the best. And being they have bread you would think they would have breakfast sandwiches instead of buckets of pre made burritos they make early in the morning and keep wrapped in foil in a bucket behind the register. Haven't eaten lunch here but maybe it's worth a try since they have more lunch options. As for the cookies here id say they are so so. Nothing amazing about this place so far. Maybe next time I will have a better review based on lunch and if it's just like breakfast it may be my last time in.

Seeking a fresh, locally owned stop for lunch while passing through on a road trip. The chicken salad, potato salad, bow tie pasta salad and cookies are all fabulous! Would be great for veg or vegans and gf folks too as they make everything to order and cater to dietary restrictions.

I get pies from this place in a regular basis. They have lunch items such as sandwiches, etc, but I have not experienced them. However, I can say that the pies are very good. I've had their Lemon Meringue, Peanut Butter Cream, Apple, Cherry, and Peach pies. They are all delicious. They do not accept Amex cards, so be prepared with another form of payment.

  • Nathan K.

The customer service is great along with their biscuits and gravy. I would say the best I have ever had and their pastries are cheap and super good also.

    (5)
  • Mindy M.

I got a lunch special with half egg salad on Jalepeno cheddar bread, potato salad, and a cookie. What a deal! The bread was soft and delicious. I had to save some of the potato salad for later as it was a very generous serving.

  • Hannah E.

We came in in the middle of the afternoon and I was offered a 2 for 1 deal on the breakfast burrito. Yay! Noooo! It was a soggy, fatty mess. The thing had been sitting in a bucket all day and the tortilla had melted with the wrapping had melded with the fillings, so the whole thing was just gummy and homogenous with only some limp, bologna-tasting bacon (or sausage, I literally couldn't tell) studding the soup. I leave the extra star for the baked goods, which smelled great and I had a bite of a cookie that was clearly made by skilled hands.

    (2)
  • Suz W.

Delicious bread and wonderfully seasoned sandwiches. If you like cabbage, try their delicious cabbage burger. Their cookies are yummy too. They also sell local honey and jam. Such a treat to have such FRESH bread!

    (5)
  • J H.

Great nostalgic bakery. The soup and sandwich makes a hearty, healthy lunch. Dine in or take it to-go.

    (5)
  • Misty L.

The best cabbage burgers I've had since my grandmother's years ago. All pastries and desserts are delicious. Love their prepackaged salads also and their soup is completely homemade. Its also a plus that it's a local business.

    (5)
  • Glen B.

We enjoyed the sandwiches (cabbage roll, sloppy joes, and chicken salad) as well as baked goods. I highly recommend the snicker doodle cookie and the brownie. The owner is also very nice and friendly. It's definitely worth a visit.

  • Bill C.

Went here for lunch todat. The construction made it a little difficult to find. The ham and potato soyp in a bread bowl was very good and the tuna salad on marblr rye was outstanding. All their bakery items looked excellent .

  • Beth H.

This is the epitome of a country deli! The women behind the counter are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and their baked goods looked delectable. My boyfriend and I each ordered a sandwich, and they were both delicious! They have all sorts of funny signs on the walls, and their house baked bread stuffs every available shelf space. I would definitely return here, and I would recommend that anyone stop by for lunch, bread, or baked goods.

  • Jen L.

The burrito was soggy and stuck to the foil. The cookies (double peanut butter) tasted old and hard. The cinnamon roll I ordered, I thought would be warmed up and it wasn't. I was really cold. Still had a good taste. I asked the lady what "green chile" was and she replied "it's green chile". I don't know about you but that did not help me in any way. I may go back to try a sandwich based off the reviews but it'll be awhile until then.

The Bread Basket is the best bakery I have been in since leaving Britain 23 years ago. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the baked goods are just divine. If you are near here at breakfast, the burritos are superb and a great value. Personally I prefer the traditional but my kids prefer the country. At lunch time the cabbage burgers are not to be missed. This shop is tucked away just outside of downtown Cheyenne but well worth finding!

Shhhh! Don't tell anyone about this place! :-) I love that it's not very busy, the food is great and you occasionally run into the Mayor.

Having been to Cheyenne a couple times a week for the last 18 months, I realized that I had done very little in terms of checking out eateries. I passed this place a hundred times before finally going to it for lunch today. I was quite happy. It is truly charming, and fits the general vibe of Cheyenne itself. The crowd seemed to be mostly business oriented individuals, which makes sense with downtown being just a few blocks away. I stood in line for about 10 minutes before getting to place and receive my order. I was hungry, because I skipped breakfast, and ordered a whole chicken salad sandwich with tomato, mustard, lettuce, and sprouts, a side of potato salad, and chips. I waited to eat until I was back on-site. I was quite happy. For $10, I got a quality meal that made me happy I didn't bring my own lunch. Now, that said, I have made better sandwiches and better potato salad, but I was happy with their take on these products and also felt good for supporting a local, original business. The baked goods all looked very appealing and it was only by some divine intervention that I did not walk out of with a box of cookies, breads, and cakes. Service was very friendly with a lot of smiles. I would recommend this again for someone needing a reasonable lunch without too much hassle.

Stopped by last evening to grap a bite heading back to the hotel. I must say I was pleasantly surprised, could've spent quite a while sampling the fares. Everywhere I looked there was something else I wanted to sample, but alas in a time crunch. Grapped ham salad on the jalapeño/cheese as was never disappointed from the first bite to the last. Followed it up with a couple of snickerdoodles and was almost in bliss. A return trip is definitely warranted here in the near future.

  • Dani A.

This place is awesome for a quick, but delicious, lunch. I got a half turkey sandwich on cheddar garlic bread (!!) and a cup of ham and potato soup. The half sandwich/soup is a lunch special, so you also get a cookie with your order (you order at the counter). Everything was great! The bread was delicious, they put enough meat on the sandwich, you can pick your toppings, the soup was homemade and hearty. I gave the cookie to my mom, so can't speak for their baked goods, though they looked amazing!!! Will be back to try a slice of cake fore sure.

  • Danit C.

Great bread, cookies, specialty bread, and granola. Enjoyed the chicken salad with lots of optional toppings. Kids loved the Ambrosia Salad; or Coleslaw was dry and blah. Friendly staff. Just passing through Cheyenne but would otherwise make this a regular lunch stop.

    (4)
  • David R.

Hidden in a neighborhood area off downtown. Real fresh made cookies, bread, cakes, etc. breakfast burritos are excellent and coffee better than Starbucks.

  • Leah B.

This is the best bakery I've ever stepped foot in. My husband and I just recently moved here from Texas and have been to this place a few times. Great service, amazing pastries and great atmosphere.

  • Matt H.

Ok. Pecan divinity cookie. Is divine. A crazy perfect mashup of a meringue and a pecan sandy. Never had that cross done so perfectly. The almost creamy richness on the outer like a sand tart then the airy crunch on the inside. Not too sweet. This is amazing. The roast beef on garlic cheddar with a solid tomato bisque combo was delicious as well. Fast service from the friendly informative team. Stop by for sure. We have a cinnamon roll and sticky bum for tomorrow. Visually 5 stars. I will try and update after.

  • Matthew A.

I heard about this place on Yelp so I decided to give it a try while passing through town. I was not disappointed. Everyone there was really friendly. And if I needed baked goods I would've definitely been the right place! I asked what would be good for lunch and the woman there recommended their breakfast burrito. It was extremely affordable, I think it was $3.50, and along with a $.50 cookie made a good meal, but it really should have come with a little packet of salsa. :(

  • Whitney G.

We stopped here on our way through go Colorado Springs, and it was awesome. The ladies behind the counter were so friendly, the food was fresh and tasty and it was a perfect day to eat outside. We will definitely visit again.

Visited here during our first trip to Cheyenne last Friday. We came in too late in the day to catch most of the lunch items, so we picked up some delicious garlic cheddar bread, a spelt loaf, and enough muffins, cookies, and other sweet treats to fill up a bag (that's what we get for skipping lunch and coming here instead!) Seating and parking could be a problem during peak times, but neither were issues for us in the late afternoon. Based on my limited search of restaurants in the area, I'm thinking this is about as good as it gets locally in terms of quality. I'm not crazy about the vegetable shortening part of my bread ingredients, but I got over it once I took a bite. :)

  • Peggie S.

Came in for a bear claw and danish. Friendliest staff and their recommendations are excellent. Can't wait to try a sandwich! Will definately return!

  • David B.

This is a great little place. I'm glad a drove a little off the beaten track to escape all the fast food and other chain establishments to find something local. I had a soup and sandwich combo, which also included a cookie, all for less than $7. Hard to beat that, especially when it's as delicious as this place is. The breads and desserts look amazing too. I'll definitely be back.

  • Andrew J.

Yelp was helpful in finding us this place. Great sandwiches and soup. I hope we can stop again on our way back home to get some baked goods to share with our friends at home in Iowa

Good, cheap breakfast burritos and pastries! Staff is very friendly!

This has to be the best sandwich shop I've eaten at PERIOD. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They are also good stewards of their community donating food to charity.

  • John H.

Great place, enjoyable atmosphere, they were very courteous and gave me my food to go in a timely manor. Food was amazing, I was given a nice military discount. Lots of good food for your buck to.

  • Lindsay P.

FOODIES BEWARE! I understand that people are impressed by home-made bread... but that is about all this little place has going for it. The fist words that came to my mind were "church basement food." Bland and cheap. Their cookies and pastries are mostly made from shortening. I just about fell over. Shortening? That isn't food, and I certainly don't want to find it in my cookie! We sampled three of their desserts. All three of them were practically tasteless, weightless, and chewy - not in a good way. Five starts people? No way!

Passed through Cheyenne on the way to Denver and consulted Yelp for recommendations on lunch. Found this place and decided to find it. Off the beaten path but worth the effort. Great food, great service, great value. Bought a few goodies from the bakery to take with us. This place is a winner.

  • Wendy K.

I had the lunch combo special and called in my order before 10:30 for 12:15 pickup. This worked really well for me, as I was able to just go in and pay and skip the line. I had a chicken salad on marbled rye which was really good. The beef noodle soup I had was a little salty and oily for my tastes. The snickerdoodle cookie was great!

    (3)
  • Mike A.

Great fresh bread. Sandwiches are good (i'll agree the portions are a little small by todays standards). Good salads, and sweets! Street parking.

  • Joy E.

Giant cinnamon rolls and enormous scones!! Good chicken salad sandwich as well! Wonderful place to stop on a road trip across the state/country! Easy to get to from the highway, nice local feel.

Great fresh baked foods. They have great soups and sandwiches too. Sometimes a little crowded at lunch and not much seating.

    (4)
  • Emily A.

Breads, pastries, goodies galore! OH MY! The pies are amazing. Crust is perfect, great flavor. The breads, oh yummy. Only way you get better is if you make it yourself.

Amazing! Delicious soup, warm and inviting dining environment. We will be stopping in EVERY time we pass through Cheyenne. This is a must stop. Check out the delicious discount table

I had a turkey sandwich on Sunflower wheat. The bread was delicious and the ingredients in the sandwich were fresh. Great lunch option!

  • Ashley W.

Cheyenne's best local sandwich shop by FAR! They do amazing lunch specials every day where you can grab a sandwich of your choice (on The Bread Basket's delicious bread, of course), a bowl/cup of soup, or a small salad for under $10. Additionally, they sell loaves of bread, cinnamon rolls, cabbage rolls, breakfast burritos, pastries, cookies, cupcakes, brownies... basically, it's an incredible wonderland of yum, comfort food and happiness. (Also? Try the chocolate-chip divinity cookies. INCREDIBLE.)

  • Alli R.

There's a variety of great tasting fresh bread, meat, condiments, veggies, sides and pastries. We all had the meal deal, with sandwiches which were a very good size and very tasty. The chicken salad was delicious. The side could be a salad (not an actual salad, but choices like coleslaw and bow tie pasta) or the daily soup, white chili, which was new for us and very good. The meal deal also included cookies which were unique and good. For a mid-day snack we bought apple cinnamon bear claws and a cinnamon roll. Both were sweet and great. The cinnamon roll had a nice twist. It seemed to have a hint of a lemon glaze. You can also buy full loaves of bread, granola, and other types of bread products. The Bread Basket is located in a neighborhood type area and looks nice and homey. Several small tables inside with funny signs with witty lines on the walls. The mother prepares the sandwiches while her daughter works the registrar. Both are very sweet. Overheard that there's a half price discount for bread at 5:45 pm on weekdays and 3:45pm on Saturdays.

  • Jeff B.

Decided to try something different today for lunch. Felt like a sandwich, but wasn't in the mood for chain food. Decided on The Bread Basket and was glad I did. Wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. I opted for the ham salad... It was delicious! Ordering the meal deal gets you a sandwich, either potato salad or pasta salad, or a soup side and a home-made cookie of your choice, for around the same price as a chain restaurant would charge. They also offer a wide variety of pies, cookies, home made breads and muffins. I will definitely be back!

    (4)
  • Dave D.

Fantastic place. For sure a hidden gem in Cheyenne. Everything there is homemade and out of this world awesome. The bread is amazing, and the granola is a must buy. I will be going by there whenever I go through Cheyenne to stock up on the bread and granola. Enjoy.

  • Tim B.

I like this quaint neighborhood bakery in general but not because their baked goods are that good. In fact most of their cookies are hard and crumbly instead of soft and chewy. Their sticky cinnamon rolls aren't quite as big or have as much icing as the famous rolls from Johnson's Corner in Colorado. Not bad though. They have a small seating area inside and a couple of sidewalk tables when the weather is nice. Maybe the best breakfast burrito's in town !!! They bake really good breads of many varieties and make very good deli sandwiches starring their breads. They have a pretty wide variety of foods and baked goods. Prices are reasonable.

We stopped in Cheyenne on our way back to Colorado today to see the capitol building and state museum. We chose The Bread Basket because of Yelp and weren't disappointed. The bread was so good we bought two bags of rolls to bring home. Great cookies and soups too. A nice little lunch spot with friendly service.

Amazing fresh bread, and tons of meat on the sandwiches - I loved the choices of toppings and free cookie! Only thing I wished is that they had more soup options, but first time here and came late afternoon, so possibly could already of been out.

Great little place! Stopped in Cheyenne on our way out to salt lake city and found good reviews on yelp- which I will add to. Great food and people, cute place and a much better option than fast food. The homemade sandwich and soup were yummy! Cookies also spectacular :)

A very charming, humble shop - there's a little bit of everything in terms bread here - loaves, rolls, pastries, cookies (sadly, no bagels). Their sandwiches and soups are solid an their breads are refreshingly wholesome (no unnecessary ingredients, preservatives, etc). The staff is amiable and helpful, all in all a great little find.

Visiting Cheyenne for a week, went to the Bread Basket because of the reviews on here. I ordered a turkey on 9-grain, and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was the freshest I've ever had. Prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the food, and the staff seemed very friendly. Wish there was a place like this back home. I'll be visiting here several more times before I leave.

  • Stephanie S.

Thank goodness for this place. Everyone is so friendly and breads/pastries displayed look sooo good its hard to make a choice. Had a chicken salad sandwich on old fashioned white bread. Everything was so fresh. Shopped around and checked out the different breads and ended up buying a loaf of sourdough. So soft. I am in love.

  • Sean T.

I was looking for some cinnamon bread for toast, and ended up leaving with 5 loaves of different kinds of bread! I then ate lunch there two days in a row, and the White Chili is hands down the best soup I have ever tasted! The BEST thing about this place is it is real. They work hard and make everything from scratch, and It is a great asset to Cheyenne.

The bread basket is fantastic. We had sandwiches on fresh bread and tomato bisque that was outstanding. Staff was friendly and efficient. Stop by here if you are passing through Cheyenne it is worth the ten minute detour!

  • Noah O.

I went here the other day for lunch. I had the Turkey Sandwich meal, and it was really good. The bread is made fresh daily there. They do have a tiny dining area in this little store. I thought their prices were quite high for no more food than you get, but the quality was really good. Its not somewhere I would go often due to the prices, but once in a while it would be a good treat.

The best breakfast of our trip, an amazing find. Thanks Yelp!!! We were passing through Cheyenne and stopped for breakfast. The Cinnamon bun was amazing. Big and so good I had to lick my fingers.

No way!

Fantastic place. For sure a hidden gem in Cheyenne. Everything there is homemade and out of this world awesome. The bread is amazing, and the granola is a must buy. I will be going by there whenever I go through Cheyenne to stock up on the bread and granola. Enjoy.

  • Renee J.

I'd love to rate this place better, because the employees seemed awesome, but I can only describe my lunch as "unfortunate." The sourdough tasted like day-old white bread and the chocolate eclair was stale. Maybe just a bad experience, but not one I'd care to repeat.

  • Lee P.

  • Rich R.

    (3)
  • Jacquie G.

I give it a 3 because of staff and good variety of pastries. The breakfast is not the best. And being they have bread you would think they would have breakfast sandwiches instead of buckets of pre made burritos they make early in the morning and keep wrapped in foil in a bucket behind the register. Haven't eaten lunch here but maybe it's worth a try since they have more lunch options. As for the cookies here id say they are so so. Nothing amazing about this place so far. Maybe next time I will have a better review based on lunch and if it's just like breakfast it may be my last time in.

    (5)

This is the best bakery I've ever stepped foot in. My husband and I just recently moved here from Texas and have been to this place a few times. Great service, amazing pastries and great atmosphere.

Came in for a bear claw and danish. Friendliest staff and their recommendations are excellent. Can't wait to try a sandwich! Will definately return!

Yelp was helpful in finding us this place. Great sandwiches and soup. I hope we can stop again on our way back home to get some baked goods to share with our friends at home in Iowa

Fantastic place. For sure a hidden gem in Cheyenne. Everything there is homemade and out of this world awesome. The bread is amazing, and the granola is a must buy. I will be going by there whenever I go through Cheyenne to stock up on the bread and granola. Enjoy.

The breakfast burrito I got was terrific as was the cabbage burger my friend got. The service was great and the folks there are very friendly. Clean, great price was
