I cannot say enough about Spicy Gringo's. The owners are visible and genuine, and the food is simple, fresh, and delicious. Their menu is concise (which I appreciate), and while everything I have ever tried is great, I recommend the beef items on the menu, especially the beef and cheese burrito. To the best of my knowledge, everything they serve is made fresh, in-house, including the pico that comes with your chips, the guacamole (which is the best I've had in recent memory), and the myriad of hot sauces that cover the entire spectrum from mild to powerfully spicy. In an area where a majority of the restaurants (that aren't fast food) serve pre-cooked, frozen, processed schlock, Spicy Gringo's is a breath of fresh air. Even with their high quality food and "available until it's gone" daily specials, the prices are extremely reasonable. Spicy Gringo's comes highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Mexican fare.

I went here with high hopes and truthfully the food was mediocre not great. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was small and a little pricey. I love extremely hot food and asked for the hottest habanero salsa they had. When they gave it to me it was orange in color and looked as if it was going to be delicious. However, I was wrong. The flavor was almost unbearable being it was extremely bitter and the flavor did not match the heat. Maybe if they added some garlic or something to balance the flavor but regardless of this 2 star review, I am willing to go back and give it another try. Maybe trying a different dish.

My husband tried this place and loved it, so he brought me to try it. He talked it up a lot so expectations were high, and I wasn't disappointed. Everything was delicious. The salsa they bring out with the chips is really good, although I ended up adding some extra salt. I ordered beef tacos with rice and beans. The beef tacos were seriously great. Juicy and flavorful. The beans and rice were both really good and complimented the beef well. It's a cute little place with friendly staff. I would definitely like to return to try more.

One of my favorite restaurants in town! I noticed that some people said the food is dry or didn't have enough flavor, ask to try their 3 spicy sauces (I highly recommend the Mango). You could also add some of their homemade guacamole. My favorites: the choricken quesadilla, the chicken nachos, chicken burritos. Also the jalapeno burger, a special, is awesome! Don't forget to order your fried chimi, filled with your favorite candy bar and topped with powdered sugar, as a dessert!! Very reasonably priced.

This was hands down the best Mexican food I've ever had. Brooke county's best kept secret. The homemade salsa and chips are the bomb. I had a beef taco salad. Great prices and the portions are enough to share. Real shredded beef not cheap hamburger.

While the service was above the norm for the area, the food wasn't to my liking. The chicken burrito my fiance had was very dry, the rice tasted like it came from a Dollar Store microwavable bag, and the "tortilla" soup wasn't what I expected at all. While the soup could be equally blamed on me for not asking, I expected a tortilla soup to be the tomato based soup I've seen in many other restaurants. I ended up getting a chicken noodle soup base with chicken and veggies in it along with some tortilla chips on the side to crumble into it. It wasn't all bad though, the quesadilla I had was very good as well as the starter of tortilla chips and pico de' gallo they bring you was delicious. I'm just not expecting much if I ever stop there again.

"I was in the area visiting a good friend of mine recently and we were looking for some good food. Although there are other restaurants in the vicinity, most are fast food. So when a friend of his told us about a new Mexican restaurant that had recently opened, we figured we'd give it a try. Having lived in San Diego for 15 years, I'm used to good, authentic Mexican fare. So, while I wasn't expecting a "true" Mexican meal, I was hoping that it would be decent at least. Well...I was not disappointed and ended up eating there twice in two days. The first time was for breakfast. Eggs and tortillas are pretty hard to screw up and breakfast burritos are one of my favorite things in the world. It's also the perfect hangover food. When the breakfast burrito I ordered landed in front of me, I realized that these folks knew what they were doing. The right amount of eggs, cheese, and bacon - perfectly done. The flour tortilla was warm and fresh. And they had some great homemade hot sauces/salsas to go along with it. That and a coke and I was in heaven! That first experience was so good that, the next day when trying to figure out where to go for lunch, we decided to hit this place up again. Lucky for us, Saturday is enchilada day! Just like mamasita used to make back in SD, yummy. But I also tried a beef and chicken taco. The meat on both was super tender and flavorful. Everything seemed really fresh. They even make their own tortilla chips every day. They have tables and a little bar area to sit if you like. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. I believe that they're only open for breakfast and lunch right now. But I'm sure that will change as more and more people find out about them. The owners of the place are super-friendly. We felt very welcomed and at home walking in the door. They seemed to genuinely care about their customers and already know a lot of them by name. I'll definitely be back here for just about every meal out the next time I'm in the area. I just wish there was a Mexican place this good close to where I live. And judging by the reaction of the local folks that were there when I was, they realize what a good thing they have in their backyard. Keep up the good work Spicy Gringos! I'll be back soon."

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
