I visited the CJ Maggie's in Fairmont, WV tonight for the first time. The atmosphere was excellent. The building was an old state government building of sorts that had an old victorian home feeling inside. It had lots of old license plates and all-american memorabilia decorating the walls and ceilings. We were seated promptly and were delighted by the extensive menu. The items went along with the all-american feel of the place. They have everything from sandwiches, to fajitas, to steak, to pizza to country cookin'. We started with the nachos with chicken which were HUGE, doused in delicious toppings and tons of chicken. These were some of the best nachos I've ever had. I added some Tapatio sauce to it since I like a bit of a kick. For my entree, I decided to go for some classic grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing. The stuffing comes with all regular entrees, plus the two sides. The chicken was so juicy and tender. It required no knife and just pulled apart. The mashed potatoes and gravy were beyond delicious, plus the portion was huge! Well worth the $9.99 I paid for it all. I ended up taking half home, too! I took 1 star off due to the fact that my boyfriend's meal was slightly less than he expected. His roasted potatoes weren't very hot and his steak, which he ordered medium rare, was incredibly bloody - completely rare. He did say he will be going back, though! Yay for CJ Maggie's! A welcome addition to Fairmont.

This is a bad to the bone place and in walking distance from the Holiday Inn. The decor is American folk, really cool stuff. The wings here are awesome! It was perfect after grueling 10 hour drive. Elkins WV Rocks!!

Our experience would not lead to a repeat visit. The ambiance is interesting. Our house salad was good. The rest of the experience was less than enjoyable. My wife thought the server was rude. I would say he was disinterested at best. Dirty dishes accumulated. He delivered our entrees and dashed away, ignoring the empty glasses. We had to stop him to ask for refills. He didn't check back with us until we were almost done. Then there was the food. The fried green beans are obviously something out of the frozen food section. The house made kettle chips were OK but really didn't do well served cold without any dip. The New Orleans Shrimp had very little seasoning in a watery, bland broth. There was an abundance of pasta. The "wood fired" pizza we ordered was equally disappointing. Bad service, mediocre food sums up our experience.

Every now and then I go here on Sunday evenings, because it's the only restaurant that's open then. The service is slow and the food is okay, but the portions are HUGE and the salads are pretty good.

Service was terrible. The waitress knew nothing about the menu. She was either allergic or didn't care for several items on the menu. She only had one recommendation based on what she serves the most. So I ordered the Maggie's Choice under the pasta section. The chicken was excellent. The shrimp was bland and over cooked. I would have preferred to eat off a plate rather than the bowl as it was hard to cut the chicken. Unfortunately the waitress never came back to see how things were. I had to flag her down just to get my check. I won't go back.

Very nice funky. Food and service were very good and I'd go back there again in a second if we return to Elkins. Prices were reasonable too but the food / service was worth going back.

We stopped by late... which seems to be our M.O. There were a few other tables seated but we waited 3 or 4 minutes to be greeted. Overall it wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. Staff - friendly. Decor - Comfortable and very busy with local looking objects. Each booth has a private feel due to the high dividers. Food - in line with expectations Value - Okay Jumbo Fried Shrimp - The shrimp was okay but rice was pretty good. Wood Fired Oven Fantasy Pizza - Fantasy? Probably not. The toppings were your run of the mill canned mushrooms, pepperoni, onion etc. but the crust was pretty awesome.

My mom, daughter and I ate there a few days ago, the server was great, I'm not sure of his name but he did a great job, a young guy and very on point and polite. The food was good and came out quick....as usual I love cj's!

My friends and I ordered dessert to go yesterday night during the Jazz Walk. I was really happy to hear live jazz music and I'm glad to have been able to attend this event. We understand that it was a busy night, and that we were one of the last customers, but this is not a good excuse. There was a waitress there named Brittany (a blonde girl with a nose ring) who gave us an attitude when we only ordered dessert. She took her time bringing the food to us and took her time giving us the bill. We stated we were ordering dessert to go, it would be time efficient to also give us our checks along with it instead of sarcastically stating that she could give us disposable silverware to take "to go." Prior to receiving service, we were going to tip her more because we felt bad for only ordering dessert, but her lack of eye contact and the way she treated us offended my friends and me. We are easy going people who like what this town has to offer, but I have never met such a rude waitress in my life. Tips are tips regardless of assumed amounts. Do not instruct us to sign and leave the merchant copy and tell us we can keep the customer copy. We are Americans, and all restaurants have these same policies. I look forward to making a new review strictly on the food (which I heard was amazing) and hopefully with a more friendly and quick on her/his feet waitress/waiter.

Hardly ever a pleasure. This place is all about the employees. Customers are a secondary aspect. Slow, unfriendly, like let me get back to my co worker life. Unfortunately, it's the only decent food downtown. Try Beamers, but mostly the same. Nicer service but worse food. Judgemental gossipers hanging out in the hall till they have to go to those customers. Has potential, needs wifi, duh. Weak phone service in Elkins. Wifi is a no brainer. Enough said.

Everything was a little "ehhh" (including the service) except the Ceasar salad, which was a little salty. They give out macaroni necklaces to kids but aren't incredibly Kid friendly (didn't have booster seats, kids menu doesn't include drinks in price, got dirty looks towards our tot)

CJ's used to be awesome! And it's getting back to that. The food wasn't that great for a few years when I visited town from Florida each year. Service is ok. Sweet young girls. Still could use some help. I think they have gone back to there original food supplier because their food is SO much better now. The chicken salad with fries is huge...and SO good. I hope they stay this way!

Very nice casual downtown restaurant. The food was good and priced very reasonably. Good atmosphere also.

After attending a local wake, my boyfriends family wanted to eat somewhere local. We ended up choosing this restaurant. Parking was difficult to find as there is no designated lot. The hostess was friendly and the atmosphere was nice and quiet for a Wednesday night. The menu offered a large variety of food, and we were advised that the portions were large. Several members of my party ordered their pizzas, which looked absolutely amazing. I went with a plain ole cheeseburger and fries, which led to disappointment. My burger was charcoal black, and dry as a bone. There was no flavor, and I left unsatisfied. If you go, order a pizza. Skip out on everything else. Also, I went to the ladies room during the dinner, and noticed that they have doors in the bathroom that do not lock. What an odd bathroom.

We've been diners at CJ Maggie's off and on for years at all three of their locations. I like the atmosphere, local beer and the variety on the menu. I was really excited to dine here this evening. It was going to be a treat. The service stunk, tonight. I am a longtime server and often makes excuses for bad service for the first few foul plays. We waited a good 5 minutes at the door before anyone greeted us. We then waited 10 more minutes for a server to greet us. I knew more about the local beers on tap than the server and I don't live nearby. I don't even mind that my pizza was burned and had to be remade because she took the time to inform us. Waiting tables isn't easy, but please at least ACT like you care. I'll be back because I support local businesses, but please train your staff and hold them to a higher level of professionalism.

Great casual dining. Large portions, fair prices. The pork stuffed with pork is delicious, the salads are huge. I go here at least once a month. 10/10 stars. Best atmosphere in elkins.

The food is great. Get some of that garlic butter on the bread. Fried green beans are awesome. Fried zucchini is great. French onion soup, onion straws, roast beef, salad, Ruben.... come and get it! Service was good too. Price is very reasonable.

Stopped here for lunch. Staff was friendly and service was good. Pulled pork sandwich was good for a place not really known for barbecue, and loved the chips, did take a little longer than I expected tho. Reasonably priced I would suggest this place to friends if they were in the area.

Here in small town West Virginia, one should look for tasty food, copious beer, friendly wait folk, and pleasant ambiance. Here it is! The food is ample and fine - I had the vegetarian pasta and Caesar salad - nice, filling and ample. My delightful companion had the Mediterranean pasta and made pleased noises while leaving half the chicken behind. Our beers ( Yuengling, Burning River) were awesome. The waiter, Michelle, was busy but quite friendly and with a charming sense of humor. Mighty fine.

Staying in Elkins for a family reunion. After driving all day, the hotel we're staying at recommended this restaurant. They had an awesome band playing added with the outdoor seating being quaint and inviting - we were pleased from the onset. Then the waitress was just a nice and attentive. The food was absolutely incredible!! We ordered hamburgers made with fresh beef. The zucchini appetizer was out of this world. Added with a huge personal pan brick oven pizza - the crust melts in your mouth! Gpa ordered the open faced beef - yummm. The lasagna was delicious in flavor from the portion size and sauce. We cannot wait to go back - highly recommend this great new restaurant find!

Great beer, great food. This place is definitely not what I expect from WV (and I spent a year at WVU, so it is not like I have been there before). A wide and varied menu and a good selection of local brews on tap and in bottle. The apps are great (you cannot go wrong with the cheese fries) and the main courses are quite tasty (I went with the thai pasta, it was delicious). A hidden gem nestled in the hills of WV.

Spinach, ricotta & garlic pizza was good, the crust is great! Also, the sausage calzone was pretty good. For dessert they have cake in a jar & the toffee crunch one is delish!

This place was awesome! We're in towne to ride the train and had dinner here. So glad we did. The interior and decor is amazing! All sorts of really cool antiques and vintage hanging ALL OVER. Plenty to look at and discover. The food was terrific! So many options to choose from. Tons of pasta dishes, wood fired pizza to die for, and sandwiches and big as your head! The kids meals even come served on a frisbee to take home, plus they get a kids kit to make a pasta noodle bracelet while they wait! So much fun. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Great prices on huge portions, plenty to take home. Who knows! Maybe we'll go again for dinner tomorrow! Don't think about it, just GO!

After a terrible dinner at the Rail Yard the evening before we went to C J Maggie's after our train ride. What a wonderful West Virginia surprise. I would go to this restaurant anywhere!! Everything we had was great. Our 5 guests were from England and they loved it too. Great service, great food, highly recommended!! Maybe I could open one in Columbus, OH?

Every time I drive near Elkins I stop at this place to pick up one of their calzones...one of the best I've ever had anywhere. It's like they took an entire pizza, flipped it over on itself and baked it, then they supply a huge tub of sweet tasting pizza sauce to go with it...outstanding. The restaurant itself if you don't take your food to go is pretty cool. Lots of character and history inside including a lot of old pictures and industrial equipment. Of all the restaurants I've tried in Elkins this is by far the best.

I was in Elkins recently for the first time, and this was one of the first restaurants we ate at. For the area, this is definitely a 4-star restaurant. The interior is large and nicely decorated, it's a laid back atmosphere. Good beer list. It took a while to choose my meal since the menu has such a wide variety of things on it... I ended up going with the thai chicken pizza, which was way better than I expected. Delicious peanut sauce, and really awesome homemade crust. CJ Maggie's reminds me of a TGI Fridays or Chili's type place, but it deserves much more credit than that! The food is surprisingly good for what it is. Also - I doubt it's typically like this here, but the service when we went was awful. It must have been understaffed for the day. We ended up waiting forever to order, pay our bill, get our drinks, etc. I won't let this affect my review too much, since I only went once. Hopefully this isn't an ongoing issue though!

CJ Maggie's One of the locals in Beverly WV told us to try CJ Maggie's in Elkins when we asked if there were any great places to eat in the area. This was recommended. So we went there at about 7:30pm for dinner. It was busy but there was only a 5 minute wait. The decor is junk shop style with an eclectic array of 'stuff' everywhere. We got a booth, the table was wet from them wiping it down but fortunately the tables come with paper towels on a roll nailed to the wall. Presumably they are for this purpose? (beats me) Unfortunately they wiped all the crumbs onto the booth seats, so we had to clean our own seats to sit down. Now for the wait, and wait we did. Finally a cute waitress asked for our drink order. The micro brew Elliot Ness Porter was good BTW. But that was the last good thing. Bread: probably bought at Kroger and sliced, served with butter with garlic mixed in. Not good. Appetizer: Crab dip and chips, No crab or cheese flavor, lots of old bay seasoning mixed in, Doritos style chips. Not Good. Meal: Her: New Orleans Shrimp. Tiny shrimps, we think frozen, in a soup of inch of oil. Disgusting. Me: Mediterranean Pasta. Maybe 20 strands of pasta swimming in some sort of Pesto sauce, probably cooked days ago. Veggies soggy, sauce horrible. Both were served in small oval bowls filled to the brim. Just disgusting looking and tasting. Verdict, I would rather starve than eat at CJ Maggie's.

This is my favorite restaurant in West Virginia. A trip to Elkins wouldn't be complete without a buffalo chicken sandwich. I love it so much that I haven't been able to order much else. I've had the fried zucchini and bacon cheddar fries apps but I hear everything is good. It's nice to see the town has more original dining restaurants than chains (excludes fast food). The beer selection is good too! I love going to this place!

This is a fun place is a fun place to eat. The pasta dishes are good. Our Hawaiian pizza was just average.

Being from out of town and with limited dining choices, we were reluctant to go to CJ Maggie's based on some of the negative comments. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The wood fired pizza was FABULOUS, the decor was whimsical, and our waitress was kind and attentive. It's obviously a local favorite as there were quite a few people there for a Sunday night.

Went to this restaurant at suggestion of hotel we stayed. Food was good for the price. Service was terrible. Once you get your meal they are finished with you. Don't they know add-ons are how you make your $$$$.

Passed thru Elkins one night this week and found this great place. The main dining area was very busy, was told it would be a 20 minute wait. Instead of waiting we went to the bar and had drinks/dinner there. Bartender was very friendly and attentive. We got our drinks and food very fast. Large beer selection...and ever larger food menu. Pizza was great...very good crust. Will return here if ever in area again. Like other people have mentioned....funky and interesting interior of restaurant, in a good way.

I visit Elkins, WV, at least once a year to see family. My goal is always to eat at CJ Maggie's at least once. Some of my favorites are the shrimp and pasta alfredo, Thai pizza (although all their pizzas are good), pepperoni calzone and the margaritas are divine!

Went to Elkins to eat and one of the choices I selected was Maggie's, We waited under 5 minutes to be seated Atmosphere is nice with mostly booths on the side we were seated. Decorations nice. She promptly took our orders, but delivered the 1st course and we had no silverware. I kept trying to get our waitress' attention to no avail. I had to get up and go back towards the kitchen until another waitress asked me how she could help. Husband's ceasar salad was OK. He got the crab cake platter and the crab cakes were pretty good with plenty of crab meat. I got the fried shrimp appetizer and it was pretty good too. Coffee was awful

Sunday night in Elkins. NOT much open so we opted for CJ's. We were seated quickly....rather we were taken to a dirty table that was wiped off onto the floor and our seats. After nearly slipping on the tomato that was just wiped onto the floor we sat down to wipe off our wet table with the tacky bathroom style paper towels. After seeing something on our table that resembled snot we left. Ugh. I'd rather eat at the steak house down the road that does NOT serve wine.....and that's saying something for me.
