So you're in the mountain town of Davis, WV, maybe going skiing or just enjoying a cool summer weekend away from the city. But dinner calls, and you're not sure where to go among the limited places in Davis. Well folks, if you are in the mood for a great steak, Muttley's is your place to go. At first, you may wonder about the older looking building. You may even wonder about the salad you get with your meal. But then the steak comes, and you are simply amazed. If you remember what you paid for it, you re even more amazed. Wine list appears to have improved from what prior reviews commented on, it seemed pretty good and the prices were very good. Overall, it may not look like much, but the steak you get at Muttley's definitely will fill you up and be a great ending to your West Virginia day.

The steak was buttery soft and delicious. The environment is a bit strange, but when eating a good steak in the mountains in the middle of a blizzard this is for sure your place.

Well, the food was decentg... Unfortunately that is a small part of the dining experience. The atmosphere is interesting but sort of hodgepodgy. Got some bizarre smells as it is open air. The prices seemed high to us... my delmonico was 28. Came with a salad and potato. Dressing was ish. Salad was large but plain jane. Everything seemed like supermarket food at farmers market prices. We had an appetizer of baked goat cheese and pepper glaze. Server delivered it sans toast/crackers/bread. My spouse and I both looked at each other in a befuddled manner. We waited...nothing. Being the bumpkins we are, we assumed it was to be eaten straight up on the 6 olives (with pits) that came with it. After we had nearly finished, she delivered 5 Ritz and 4 whole wheat crackers, apologizing with an oops. Also, it seemed microwaved, not baked. Nothing about it gave the impression of baking. Wine is available, but you must buy it next door. I would not eat here again. Lousy atmosphere, a little steep on price, and food that was hit or miss.

We stopped here looking for dessert to go. Yes, to go...we had our doggie with us. I went in and asked for dessert. I got two blackberry cobblers to go, one for me and one for the hubby. She even packed us ice cream. We were staying in Blackwater Falls State Park and everything made it back to the park in one piece. The cobbler was DEVINE! It was warm and delicious and the ice cream had not even melted. The staff was SO accomodating and wonderful! I would recommend this place for sure!

Four of us dined at Muttley's over 4th of July weekend. We thought the prices were a little high for such a remote area. The food was just OK, we didn't feel worth the price as the least expensive entree on the menu was $17.00. We made the mistake of asking for additional bread and were charge $1.75...really!! I have never had that happen to me at any restaurant before. There was also a charge for a slice of lemon in your water! Did they really have to "nickel and dime us to death?!?" Also, we were then informed at the end of the meal that if we used our credit card there would be a fee. Disappointed in the experience...will not be back or recommend to others.

I was shocked to find a place in Davis where I enjoyed the food and had a great time. There wasn't exactly much of a selection to choose from, but this was recommended to us and I am glad we decided to listen! Muttley's has the typical bar and grill feel, where fun and strange things decorate the walls and you can hear the TVs from the bar area. That being said, it felt way nicer than what I expected and the menu was classy. Our server was very friendly and service was quick and accurate. The wine selection wasn't large as stated below, but it was just fine. They had the option to order a "bucket of toes" which were basically mini bottles of Barefoot wine, where there was a 2 for 1 price option. You can also take home your unfinished wine. We started with the onion petals which were devoured instantly. My fiance kept raving about his perfectly cooked peppercorn steak. My chicken kabobs were well seasoned and delicious. I finished each and every one....except the one I accidentally flung onto the floor...don't ask me how that happened! In the end, I was very impressed to find a restaurant of this quality in Davis and will be happy to eat there when I visit again.

My wife and I dined here recently. The restaurant is a fairly typical middle-of-the-road American-style place. Decor is a mix of Western and Appalachian. The wait staff was friendly and prices were average. Menu selection was pretty good for a small, out-of-the-way place (Davis, WV), with a mix of meat, fish, and poultry. Anyway, the food was good, but not great. I would dine there again, but probably not before sampling the other few options in Davis and Thomas.

OMG! I just had the best burger ever! The burger had blue cheese in it and was just a little spicy, it was perfectly cooked and juicy. It had to be at least a 1/2lb, I was not able to finish it! I have been looking for a good burger since we started coming to the area. The waitress told me that they grind their own burger and they are assembled by hand when you order them. My friend had the vegetarian lasagna and she raved over the white sauce they used on it . The selection was much larger and varied than I was expecting given that it is known as being a good old fashioned steak place. (Note the vegetarian food options.) Will definitely be back.

Well the first review of this place has about as many characters in it as Davis WV itself does. WOW - THAT is a review?!?!?! OK - HERE is an ACTUAL review of Muttley's in quaint and barren Davis WV. Wife and I were on a church youth group trip to Timberline weekend of 3/19/10. We tried dining at the Timberline Lodge and were so underwhelmed I began an internet quest for something better for Saturday night eats. Since Frank W.'s review was the only one on Yelp I clearly had to look further. We further asked around the ski hill and a query to one of the veteran ski-patrols yielded that Muttley's is a solid alternative to the Timberline Lodge (a local Sheetz would qualify there if you ask me - YUK). We called about reservations and made some for 5:30 as the voice on the end of the phone recommended. Arriving on time and greeted by a rather noisy wind chime door hanger we walked into a dimly lit and very rustic western decor restaurant. A wood fire was burning in the main front room. Wait staff was friendly and while I wouldn't say 100% 'genuine' they were hardly cold to what have to be mostly tourists this time of year on weekends. We were CLEARLY tourists and not really ashamed to be known as such - I just didn't reveal that I was D. FoodSnob, PhD!!! LOL We were quickly informed of the daily special which was more of an early bird offering consisting of a grilled filet (steaks are a specialty of this place for sure), side, salad, and what appears to be their signature (and possibly ONLY) soup; vegetable beef. All for I think $14.95 (don't recall exactly). Then our drink orders were taken and it's humorous to note that 'Davis Water' is free - says so on the menu. Muttley's does CAB (Certified Angus Beef) and offers several cuts including Filet, Delmonico, NY Strip, and Porterhouse. There were a few 'unusual' choices also on the menu including 1/2 duckling and lamb chops. A cold smoked local trout was on the appetizer menu which I found appealing but didn't have the room for. There are a handful of salads and some pasta choices along with your usual 'grilled chicken with something or other' options. Wife is not a huge meat eater so she went with a basic linguine with garlic cream (no proteins), a side salad, and the beef veggie soup (meat I know - welcome to my world lol). I tried her 'signature' soup and it was decent - I thought it needed salt - she didn't! I got the Porterhouse (med rare as clearly recommended by the menu; "we err on the rare side"), salad, broccoli, and an ala-carte charged side of grilled onions. Portobello mushrooms are also an option for extra bucks with the steaks. My wife, on the rare occasion she orders beef orders Filet Mignon WELL DONE and I mean BURNED SERIOUS TO A CRISP WELL DONE). Gives me shivers when she does that and thoughts that the chefs are spitting on MY order as well but it is what it is. This place might shoot you if you do this. They clearly state they WILL 'BUTTER FLY' (spelling as on the menu) your filet if you order it this way. I think they will 'BUTTER FLY' ***YOU*** if you dare go there - thank God my wife didn't this night. My steak was done perfectly with the only complaint I have being that for a porterhouse it was rather thin. I'm used to a 1" thick cut min at $26 bucks + for this cut - this one was about as thick as your typical NY strip. It was tasty - nothing 'spectacular'. It was not US Prime which is one of the few beef grades I can easily distinguish - 'Angus' isn't one of those really. My sides and salad were also just fine. Your 'side' of steamed broccoli only comes with 4 florets total and they were steamed a bit over done to my liking. This clearly isn't Ruth's Chris with 'family size' sides but of course it isn't advertised as such either. The wife's pasta was quite good with the garlic cream sauce made 'in house' we were told. The linguine was perfectly al-dente which is a rarity in my experience when ordering pasta out especially in a place where pasta is an afterthought on the menu. All in all Muttley's was exactly as expected. As for the comments about a 'limited wine selection' cmon - this is DAVIS WV. Muttley's is a whiskey and steak kinda joint. What it is is an OASIS when on a ski trip to this area from at least the Timberline Lodge. Now the pastor of the church on the mountain at Timberline Sunday mentioned a place called "Johns" and also that the lodge at Canaan Valley was 'very good'. Food to most is subjective of course - my own council I will keep on these suggestions in future reviews. Because when you want to KNOW and be SURE - you look to solid foodies like yours truly... AM I RIGHT? ;) If you're in Davis try Muttley's out - and then take the 2 minute walk of the town and look in some of the old buildings - very nostalgic. Just be careful they haven't taken up the sidewalks first. And if you do try it please post your results here - and give more than 2 sentences ok!??!?! NOT humbly.

Near Timberline 4 Seasons, This is as good as it gets. Nothing fantastic about the place, but nothing bad either. The menu offers a variety and quality that just aren't available in the other local establishments. The three of us all enjoyed our meals, which is a feat, considering how picky we are in general. Decent beer menu as well. If you just cant stomach another Timberline burger, then give this place a try.

Our food (the pot-roast special) deserves 2.5 stars. The service 2.5 stars since our waitress fumbled around clearing the table and serving new dished at the same time. Limited wine selection. Don't order the house wine. 1.5 stars.

Food was very good. Steaks were overlooked, but they were very busy on a Saturday night. Waitresses kept a very good pace even tag-teaming to keep things moving. Be forewarned, there is a 3% surcharge for any charge card. Small place, decorated in a vintage style. Lots of deer heads on the wall in the bar area.

The truth is I have never eaten here - steak seems to be there thong and not mine - but after seeing a segment on Wchs - traveling west Virginia - I felt confident in recommending it to A group of bikers from Ottawa down for a biker rally who were looking for something more hearty than the Purple fiddle - where I was having lunch - see other reviews - they were appreciative and I told them to yelp it - let's see if they did

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
