Hoggie Doggie’s Snack Shack

One of our favorite places to eat. Great food; personable service. The hot dogs are excellent; homemade fries are very good. The menu has something for everyone. If the good food isn't enough, you can also sit on one of two logs carved and painted to look like pigs. Closed for the winter. Hoggie Doggie's is another reason to look forward to summer.
Hoggie Doggie's is probably the most charming place to eat in the Minocqua area. There's no indoor seating, so it's not open year round. Order at the window and wait for them to call your name to pick up your food, then sit at a picinic bench, in a gazebo, or on a pink pig bench. They have one (or more) soft serve flavors of the week in addition to vanilla, chocolate, and twist, a variety of uncommon sundaes, and other frozen treats like slushes. They also have a wide variety of food, mostly of the fried or sandwich type, though the menu does include bright green salads (no iceberg here!). I like their Chicago dogs, and have liked all the ice cream. My boyfriend got a pork loin sandwich and it was pretty dry. Thier ' ho-made' french fries are pretty good.
We were stuck without a clue where to go when we stumbled across this gem. I had the patty melt, which was amazing (especially with their sauce). Wife had the chicago style hot dog and loved it too. The fries were amazing. Can't wait to go back for more. The only bad thing is that there is no place to sit and eat but outside or in your car. Otherwise it is a sure-fire 5 star rating.

Monical’s Pizza

360 US Hwy 51 N
Woodruff, 54568
Reviews:
We were staying in the area for the weekend and were looking for a good pizza place. Based on the reviews we decided to give Monical's a try. Since it was a Saturday night we thought it would be better if we just placed a take-out order. Calling the place took a while, must have called twice and after about 5 minutes of waiting we finally placed our order. But they did gave us a wait time of just 20 minutes. Once we arrived we found a very small parking lot next to the busy road but we managed to find a place to park. Once we walked in we found out why it took a while to get someone on the phone. It was a very cramped place and fully packed. All of the staff is incredibly busy and the phone just keeps on ringing. There's a line of people waiting to be seated right to the door. From what we heard it was an hour wait so keep that in mind. Now for the pizza. It was very good. I ordered a small pepperoni pan pizza while my friend ordered a small Hawaiian thin crust. Both were wonderful. I would say though that the cheese was subpar. Sauce was amazing, crust is good, but the cheese was just too tough and chewy. The menu also lacks other food items and sides. I've had better pizza. Is there even such a thing as bad pizza? It's not amazing but keeping in mind the location this is a pretty good spot if you're in the Minocqua/Woodruff/Lake Tomahawk area.
Great pizza and the staff is superb. Food arrived in a prompt manner and was hot and delicious. Great location overlooking a lake. Only knock would be a limited seating area and they can get pretty busy. Love going here and will definitely be back!
Horrid service...... Man....and she took my sunglasses. Because of numerous problem, I told our waitress that online it said awesome food terrible service. Well, so true and she did seriously take my sunglasses.

Hunan Restaurant

Reviews:
There is no hyperbole in the following statement: Hunans of Mincoqua, WI is the greatest Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Let's put it like this: my choice for a last meal would be the wonton soup, fried dumplings (more on the dumplings to follow), and Schezwan shrimp. And, hey, how 'bout some cashew chicken on the side? Oh the dumplings....my god the dumplings! If there is one universal truth in this world it is that everyone agrees that the fried dumplings are the most delectable satchels of pork in the land. They are a necessity. If you do not order them you are missing out on the best thing on the menu. As a side note, if you go between 11-3pm, the lunch menu items are ridiculousness cheap and heaping. Egg roll, soup, and a (large) entree will cost you $5.95 to $6.50. Having recently moved closer to Chicago, one would think I would have stumbled upon a superior Chinese eatery than one in Podunk Wisconsin. Alas, I have not. And honestly, I don't think I ever will.
This is a solid Chinese American spot in a small town, no more and no less. The rave reviews are difficult to understand. We had two lunch specials. The hot and sour soup was excellent, while the egg drop soup was overly viscous and just OK. Spring rolls were greasy and not that tasty. Kung pao chicken had a nice flavor, but lost points for spongy, pre-cooked chicken and over-reliance on celery. Chicken egg foo young was a sweet, pre-made egg patty with chichen slices added on. A good lunch, to be sure, but not better than quality establishments in Chicago's Chinatown. Service is very helpful and friendly.
Very good. Lots of options. Well made food. Friendly staff. Funny the server is Native American, and another customer told him that his English is good. Lol, some people.

Mmmmm, Butterburgers! Culver's makes a delicious burger on a buttered bun, hence the name. The shakes and malts are some of the best I have ever had, made from Culver's signature frozen custard. Only 4 stars as their fries are straight out of a bag. This chain is growing in and around (mainly) the Midwest. Look for the blue and white sign when you are hungry; you won't be disappointed!

Very tasty breakfast- great prices, friendly staff, and quick service. A terrific spot to grab a satisfying meal and avoid the crowds/long waits at T&B he tourist destinations. A family favorite whenever we're in town, we recently brought guests visiting from CA and they enjoyed it, too! Just remember to bring cash- they don't accept credit cards.
Cafe's should represent home cooked food at reasonable price, this was a poor value .the portion were small, the quality bad and the prices high.two French toast two sausage and a hash browns made with mash potato. $10 Stay away
Quaint little place with tables and a counter; have only had breakfast here. which was pretty good. Standard coffee and fast service.

Don't like fast food but this is an exception -- May be a chain but this locale is the best ... impeccably clean, flat panel TVs and get the custard ... OMG!! May get in the car and go just writing this. ( P.S. All Culver's are not equal.)
I love Culvers. I don't love many fast food places, but Culvers, I love. The mushroom swiss burger is ridiculously good. I love their crinkly and always perfectly cooked fries. I'm actually not one for frozen custard or ice cream, but their strawberry sundae is my Oma's favorite and the chocolate malt I forced myself to consume was delightful, I love that they make their malts the correct way... vanilla custard, chocolate syrup and a generous amount of malt powder. No easy way out chocolate custard blended malts at Culvers! I also love the employees of Culvers and I'm always delighted to see that they employ some of the friendliest senior citizens and super polite high schoolers. I've been to a lot of Culvers and this truly is one of the best.
Not a good experience. Food was bland. Restaurant was not clean.

Reviews:
The food was ok, but definitely not for the price! I don't mind paying a higher price for a meal, but I left here feeling ripped off and dissatisfied. Service was adequate at best. Many other places in the area to spend less money for a MUCH better meal
Overpriced for the value and quality I received. Three in our group ordered a $30+ steak, and were each served a fatty, inferior cut of meet soaked in a bizarre sauce... I've had $10 steaks that were much better. Their pasta and specialty drinks, though also expensive, were very good, however. I realize Anthony's is in a tourist town, so I expected to pay a bit more, but I'm very disappointed overall with my experience, doubt I'd go back.
Recently stopped on for a light dinner and had the best salad and appetizer. The scallop bruschetta is excellent. The tuna appetizer was very generous and done perfectly. A table close to us ordered a steak that had my mouth watering. I can't wait to go back!

The Plantation Supper Club

11084 Hwy 70 E
Woodruff, 54568
Reviews:
Definitely exceeds expectations for a Wisconsin supper club. Restaurant was clean, and service was efficient and pleasant. Fun "hor d'ourves" include spicy links, cheese toasts, and fried wings. Onion ring appetizer was very good - definitely recommend it. My wife's strip steak was done to order and delicious. Ribs were great. Fried chicken and fried walleye were excellent, though a bit salty. And true to the supper club format - not a vegetable in sight! Unfortunately, we were so stuffed afterward we did not have room for any of their interesting ice cream drinks.
We found the Plantation Supper Club via the AAA TourBook. I usually enjoy the supper club atmosphere, but really, this place was a disappointment. We got the Prime Rib and the Orange Roughy. The Roughy was tasty, but the Prime Rib was basically flavorless. The service was spotty at best, and everything else was a bust as well. Overall very disappointing. I'd recommend skipping it and finding something else.
I'm usually not a big fan of eating holiday meals in restaurants. There's just something about cooking a big meal for the extended family -- and the smoky smell of turkey and fresh scent of pumpkin pie throughout the house. But this year, to make things easier for everyone involved, the Row clan decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at the Plantation, largely because C. and I were flying in from New York. I'm glad we did. Not only did it make the travel and holiday easier, the Thanksgiving dinner was actually quite nice! A few of us ordered proper entrees, but many of us opted for the Thanksgiving special. The plate included your requisite turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams, cranberry sauce, and roll. The turkey was a little dry, and the stuffing wasn't as good as my mom's, but all in all, it did the trick. Add to that a slice of pecan pie (warmed, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream) -- others got the usual pumpkin pie -- and it was quite excellent. The Plantation is a sizable restaurant, with quite a large bar area, and if they can do holidays so well, imagine what their every-day menu is like. Worth a try!

I don't see why everyone leaves crumb reviews for this place. The crab cakes were great, as well as the potato pancakes (which were homemade.) my fellow diners thoroughly enjoyed their fish fry. Our waitress, Mary, never got tired of rattling off the potato choices, and was very friendly, and made small talk. They took our name, and we were seated pretty quickly. This place has great views and an "up north" atmosphere with raccoons and bear heads on the walls.
My brother in law and his boyfriend stopped in for quick bite to eat. The wait staff would not talk to them and basically forced them to leave. As they sat waiting 20 minutes to talk to someone the couple next to them started talking about how marriage is only a man and woman. Basically we never expected to have such a rude experience in Wisconsin. The rude treatment is unacceptable. Anyone who believes in equal rights should avoid this place.
Was told to come there because of the food and the beauty of the restaurant. Came in and the staff was very rude. We were not aware that we needed a reservation. A man sitting at the bar made a very rude remark so we decided not to stay. I didn't want my grandchildren exposed to this. It was like we were lepers.

Chi Dog

Reviews:
So, once a year I indulge myself. All right, maybe twice a year. A corn dog with mustard. Simple. Classic. Safe. With prompt friendly service, and a cautionary warning given, with a smile, to be careful; it's hot, I was happily on my way. Or so I thought. My biannual indulgence was frozen. Literally. I could have used it as a gear shift. So, back I drove. Make no mistake they corrected the error; and gave me a free bottle of water. And although I can't equate this experience with something akin to watching what happened to Bambi's mother, it was marred. Maybe it will be better next year.
I'll give them a 3rd star for adding fries to a sandwich for only 50 cents; good fries. The best Chicago dog up in these parts is found at Bun Runners on 47.....
Oh man, I wanted this place to be amazing so badly, I rarely ever find a good Chicago dog. And with a name like Chi Dog, it was destined for greatness. Well, the hot dog was good, but the fixings were pretty lackluster. And it was on a generic, wimpy, soggy bun. I think they need to take a trip down to Chicago and see how it's done. I mean, it's a cool little trailer to give it that 'up north' feel, and it's in a prime location for tourists right off the main highway. Oh well, maybe the next time I'm up here for the summer...
