I give Twin Oaks a top rating for a couple of reasons. 1. Finding good quality, freshly made fare in North West Illinois and associated parts of Wisconsin is very difficult. A huge percentage of the restaurants in this area simply heat up frozen items and serve them to you. This puts Twin Oaks at a significant advantage! 2. The food my family had here was wonderful. The atmosphere is nice. Old architecture, with large door frames, and giant wood trim. Did I just sit in actual high back dining chairs? I'm so used to sitting in a booth I forgot this was an option. I felt under-dressed for the space, but most other customers were in casual attire. Wait... was I just able to have a conversation with my family at a restaurant without having to yell over bad Muzak playing classic rock in the background? Yes.. I did! We were able to converse in a room full of people at a 1/2 whisper without a problem. We enjoyed Prime rib, a wonderful seafood pasta dish, and a charred ribeye steak topped with Bernaise and shrimp. (This made me very happy.. I tend to think I could do better on the grill at home when I eat steak at many restaurants.) The potato leek soup with a sprinkle of fresh dill was enjoyed by everyone at the table. (including an 8 year old.) Bottom line, GO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! Considering my family of 4 typically pays about $100 with tip - to go and eat at Red Robin, spending a few more dollars to eat top notch food is worth every penny. Dinner complete with 4 glasses of wine, and an extra side after a decent tip came to $175.00. I would think if you skip wine, and go with specials, you could get out for much less. I would also consider splitting a dish for 2 kids. The portions were large.

We have dined at Twin Oaks several times, with each visit better than the last. The menu offers some really unique selections (and it's never the same twice, in my experience). The food is soooo good, and portions are generous. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The atmosphere is unique - come as you are, or dress to the nines, and prepare to enjoy a comfortable, understated elegance. I suggest checking out the menu online before going, and make a reservation. Arrive hungry, and plan to bring home leftovers, because you'll want to try out some appetizers! Dessert is a MUST. Also, if you want to use a coupon, the restaurant.com coupon lists some exclusions clearly: "Minimum purchase of $50. Excludes Sat. 18% Gratuity added prior to discount. Valid for Dine In ONLY. Excludes: Holidays/Special Events, Other Offers/Promotions. Present prior to ordering. Excludes Fish Fry. Not valid with Sunday Prime Rib special." I'd mention the coupon when making your reservation, to avoid any misunderstanding as one reviewer experienced. Go, and ENJOY!!!

Being a city dweller (though not snob!) and having my pick of excellent restaurants, I have to say I was still a bit dubious of a Wilmot, WI country house restaurant. Well, allow me to insert my foot in mouth as an appetizer. The food here was outSTANDING. The menu was seasonal and inspired, the ingredients were fresh and the meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I very much enjoyed the rack of lamb and the boyfriend absolutely drooled over the grilled salmon. The ambiance was nothing to write home about, quaint as the old house is, but the quality of the food and my excellent family company more than made up for that minor detail. Still a 5-starrer!

Ok. Seriously. I would have passed this place up in a second. Friends of ours asked us to join them for dinner at this place and we were like, "sure." So glad we did! Their food is quite delicious. They have quite a decent menu - pork, chicken, duck, seafood and steak. Their apps and salads are awesome!! Beverage selection is decent too!!! Make sure to leave room for dessert. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!

By far my favorite place to eat in the area. Delicious food and love the old house! Have yet to have a bad meal and have ordered many different items.

Wow! We started with homemade bread, the excellent crab cake an the very tasty warm spinach salad. The salmon was very fresh tasting and perfectly prepared. The seafood margherita was chock full of shrimp, lobster, etc. Although we had no room for desert, but we went for the crepe anyway. It was light, creamy, and flavorful. Not to be missed! The server was friendly, very knowledgeable, and had the right amount of attentiveness. Great period decor. Chicago prices, but better value!

This place is a gem. Great food in a wonderful setting. It's an old house with charm and more charm. The chef is amazing and creative. The menu has classic steaks, pasta etc but each dish is made with care and family love. Start with the goat cheese appetizer and move to your favorite entree. I love their steaks. Pasta is great too. Homemade of course. Staff is very friendly and approachable. Really nice wine menu as well. Their specials for the night are where creativity appears so you can be tempted by that. If you get there early for a reservation check out the bar!

Excellent food, my first time to come here but all was good. The Sunday special prime rib dinner , soup or salad, homemade bread , ice cream and I had a really good glass of wine. The prime rib was done to perfection , my husband is a excellent cook and his prime rib couldn't had been any better. Comes with potatoes and veggies too. Great service and a lovely peaceful environment , hate to sound like a old lady. I hate having dinner in a place that I can't hear so this was great. We will be back to try something else.

Excellent food, excellent service! The crab cakes are to die for... And I HATE seafood!! I immediately fell in love with this place when I first walked in due to the old Victorian house.. Then the food and wine selection, outstanding.. Great Filet Minion cooked to perfection. Ended up having my wedding reception in the Banquet Hall.. Gina was hands on, no pressure, very easy going.. Never felt stressed and the wedding was a hit, the guests raved over the food and the atsmophere was perfect as we were going for a "vintage" feel. Great, great place!

We were able to get reservations on a half hour notice on a Sunday night, which was a bonus for us. The restaurant is in what appears to be an old Victorian home and you feel like you've stepped back in time. We were seated immediately and our sever was very attentive without being pushy. Two of our party ordered salads and two ordered appetizers and they all arrived at the same time. I ordered the crab cake appetizer and it was delicious! The specials of the day was a rather extensive list. My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was scrumptious. I had a seafood mixed dish with a light tomato sauce (can't remember the name of the special) and it was excellent. All in all the food was wonderful. About the only miss was that my wife ordered a Chardonnay and another guest ordered a Pinot Grigio and the waitress mixed them up. No big deal. Will definitely go there again, although it wasn't cheap, so it will likely be for a special occasion.

We have enjoyed this restaurant over the years and visited it again this week while up in Twin Lakes. I an pleased to say that it was a wonderful as always, from service to food and drinks. We shared a dinner salad with home-made blue cheese dressing and the portions were perfectly satisfying. I went with my usual entree, the herb crusted salmon with shrimp on a bed of fettuccine and my partner ordered the special blackened rib eye steak with grilled shrimp and bordelaise sauce. Both were prepared beautifully and delicious. We highly recommend this spot if you are looking for really good food in a pretty setting.

My wife and I felt like this was a restaurant that has probably seen better days. I know it's a Victorian House but it looks like it hasn't been updated in a decade at least. The entrance is poorly marked so it's hard to determine how to even get in the place. It was very cold in the dining room. It's winter...please turn on the heat!! I usually am too warm but I was ready to go outside just to warm up. My food was so so but my wife liked hers. Our server though was fantastic!! Friendly, upbeat and as fast as she could be (the kitchen is a bit slow). The food is okay (pretty small portions for the price). It just looks like the Recession may have caught up with them and they are trying to cut corners but keep up with appearances. I would not be overly surprised to hear of their demise in the near future. I hope not. We've seen that too much in the last few years and soon we'll only have chains. There are better places that are in the area. We may try it again. Any restaurant can have a bad day but we'd heard so much about this place and we were disappointed with the outcome.

Service is done right. Kathy does a great job with the Wine list as well. The Menu is original, taste great, and is done with good quality produce and proteins. Dining rooms could be updated a bit but, service, wine, and food are all five stars. Strongly suggest for any occasion.

Another excellent dining experience. The Svickova was sensational, as usual. The bacon-wrapped pork with garlic mashed potatoes and fried leeks was also outstanding. Attentive service, a welcoming atmosphere, generous portions and reasonable prices have kept us coming back for more than ten years. We have never ordered a dish we didn't like. Be sure to save room for dessert.

Innovative menu, VIctorian ambiance, delicious sauces and entrees, but beware: if you are using a Restaurant.com coupon call first. Although the coupon does not exclude holidays, it was our disappointing experience to not have a coupon honored. The coupon says nothing of holidays not honored; nor does the menu. Instead, there is an insert in *some* of the menus with the disclaimer. Understandably refusal to honor our coupon, with few people dining in the dining room, despite presenting it before ordering, left a bitter taste in our mouths.

This is an old Victorian home transformed into a very tastefully decorated restaurant. Richard, owner and Chef delivers outstanding cuisine and is the master of his domain. He grows his own herbs and has a garden in the summer. Fresh is the word. From a crispy, loaded with greens house salad to a succulent cut of prime rib you'll get top quality food here served by a professional wait staff. Very eclectic menu with great thought put into his creations. Large wine selection to please any palate. Enjoy!
