This is our favorite restaurant! the food, service and atmosphere are wonderful. Whenever our daughters come visit, they say, "We are going out to eat at Basil, right!?" You will not be disappointed!
Really good food. The panang curry was flavorful and tasty. Good service and very reasonable prices.
I've eaten at Basil about 3 times and find the dishes I've had to be excellent for the most part. If Yelp used 10 stars I would give it nine. Their dishes are always attractively served. And the service friendly and efficient. Usually I order one of their spicy dishes but not tonight. As our appetizer tonight we had a new item on the menu: Money bags. These are little wontons shaped like money bags. They have a filling of crab and shrimp. Divine! My entree was Basil Salmon. It was very good to excellent. It was accented with slices of green onions and had a teriyaki like sauce drizzled on. The only distraction so to speak was the blandness of the Jasmine rice. I tried some of my partner's Indonesian Fish. She chose the fish: rainbow trout. I consider the dish to be excellent with its combination of tastes and textures. For desert we shared both Creme Brulee and a Turtle Bomb. The creme brulee was exquisite and turtle bomb very good-excellent. There are ounly two tables available for outside seating. They face the parking lot so not a very good ambiance. The decor inside is somewhat eclectic given the fact that the owner (or a friend) loves to travel to Ireland. There are some beautiful pictures from Ireland on the walls. One yelper, Zachary J. mentions catfish. I've had it in NOLA where it was very good but the few times I've tried it in the Midwest it was awful. One server said that the difference is that it is farm raised.

The hotel clerk recommended this place and told me it was the best food in the area. I couldn't agree more. It's a strange setting because it's in a residential area but once inside, the decor is very nice. I had the NY Strip and it had to be the thickest pieces of strip I've ever seen. The flavor was amazing. All the food we had was very good and the wait staff is very attentive. The prices are a little high but the food was well worth it. That's the only thing holding me back from a 5 Star rating.
Having eaten at the restaurant on more than ten occasions over the last few years, I have developed a fairly good sense of the range and quality of the menu items, the general level of service, and the restaurant's overall "vibe". I give this restaurant my very highest recommendation. First of all, the restaurant is run by an executive chef who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. The majority of noteworthy personalities in culinary circles are graduates of this institution. I don't know how many C.I.A. grads run Wausau area restaurants, but I would venture to guess very few. In addition to this esteemed credential, the chef has 25 years of experience, the majority of which includes some of the very top restaurants in south Florida. One look at the WISH menu and you will see this isn't typical Wisconsin supper club fare of steak, lobster and Friday fish fry. Interesting and unusual daily specials written on the chalkboard near the entrance, a range of salads (there is no salad bar), and the soups...the soups are particularly noteworthy. The chef has been specializing in soups literally for the past two decades. He has lobster bisque and tomato, as well as a different soup special each day. If nothing else, go in just for the daily soup special! The seafood portion of the menu includes fish--halibut, salmon and walleye--plus a daily fish special. Weekly specials include shrimp scampi, walleye, and whitefish boil. King crab and lobster can be ordered as sides. The seafood is mostly flown in fresh daily from a provider in Boston. The true focus of the menu is on the steaks--nearly all of which are sourced from Allen Brothers in Chicago. The fact that the steaks come from Allen Brothers is significant. Some of the very best restaurants in the country get their steaks from them--Morton's, Charlie Trotter's, Gene and Georgetti, Del Frisco's, The Prime Rib, among others. The list is distinguished and this feature should not be underestimated! Interesting sides and desserts (particularly the dessert specials) round out the items available on the menu. Being a beer geek myself, and not being particularly knowledgeable about wines, I will refrain from commenting on the breadth and depth of the wine menu. I do know that significant effort is put into the wine selection they have. I can also say, however, that over the last few years the restaurant's interest in keeping interesting artisinal beers in stock has been very much welcomed by me. Being from the Twin Cities, I was happy to see some of Summit's specialty beers available....in addition to some of the local beers (i.e., New Glarus) that I cannot get in Minneapolis. Lastly, I think the best aspect to the place is its casual, homelike, almost intimate, vibe. No aspect of this restaurant is pretentious. WISH delivers memorable food in a restrained and well-behaved manner. I think that those with a true interest in fine dining will find that the experience delivered by this establishment to be one that will keep them coming back...
As usual, a fantastic meal! The cheese curds with the homemade ranch were awesome! My NY strip was cooked perfectly and delicious! We even saved room for the butterscotch budino dessert, AMAZING! One of our favorite places!

My dad wanted to try this place out since it had recently opened in the area. The restaurant was in the same vicinity as the Target, Goodwill, and Dollar Tree stores, so it was easy to find as well as find parking. Once through the double doors, we walked down a narrow walk way, much like the entrance to a Crack Barrel to pay for our pizza buffet. Along the way were memorabilia that resembled a "ranch" from the south with horses, boots, cowboy hats, etc. After paying for our meal, we were sent into a "back room" to be seated. The main room had tables that seated on average 4 people... so with the 10 people in my party, we got a "back room". Once we were seated and drink orders were taken, we went to grab our plates and start the buffet. The buffet was a sad 3 stand buffet, one stand dedicated to custom pizza's that seemed as though they had been sitting out for quite some time. The other stand was dedicated to deserts ranging from cookies cakes. The last stand, consisted of fried chicken, chicken with BBQ sauce, mashed potatoes, salad bar fixings, and corn. I had about two plates of chicken and mashed potatoes and called it quits after that. Our drinks (water) were not refilled nor were we served at all during our 30 minutes there. For a an establishment offering pizzas, you think they would offer more than just 3-4 pizza varieties... I would rather go to a Pizza Hut lunch buffet before considering coming back here.
Went today and much better service! The owners were walking around greeting people and plates were cleared regularly.
My GF and I went here tonight and I was very happy. The service, atmosphere and Food were excellent. 2 people's bill came to $22.00 and was well worth it. The variety of pizza was great and their chicken is just as good as kfc. The staff was very friendly and courteous. We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant... not your typical old food buffet that sits very long.
