I was in West Bend, WI on business and wanted to check out a local breakfast place in the area; I came across this gem. I was in around 10:30am for breakfast and the waitress was kind enough to let me choose between their breakfast or lunch menu. I chose not to go with either menu and went with their St. Patricks's Day special, being a special occasion and all. I will say there were quite a few people their celebrating the holiday I suppose, the patrons I saw at the bar were ordering some heavy drinks. Any who, I digress, the special was a corned beef hash and sauerkraut eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes. It twas amazing. It twas so amazing that I turned old English there for a second. Well done on the perfect hollandaise and egg bene with a special St. Patty's Hollandaise spin!!! See what I did there? I just had water so I couldn't review any of the bar service.
This used to be my favorite breakfast place. I'd go there weekly. And it was great, a bit pricey, but totally worth it. Things started to slowly change. First they switched their usually delicious coffee to a weak blend. Not worth $3 a cup. OK, so I just drank water. Then what seemed to be an entirely new serving staff. One in particular would shut half the tables down with reserved signs because she was the only one there. Funny thing was, there were no customers in the place! But she is prohibiting seating at the best tables in the place. And never refills water. Unfortunately I will take my business elsewhere.
I adored my visit here yesterday. Around 1 pm on a Saturday and I found parking immediately outside on the street. This place is rather unique: a bar, restaurant and coffee shop all under one roof. That and the cozy decor makes it feel like you can go and relax here any way you need to. I was a wifi nerd and took my laptop to a counter by the window. But I was treated like royalty by the waitstaff. I was met right away and accommodated with tasty coffee. And I was offered refills throughout my visit so I didn't have to get up from my work. I was also brought my own little silver container of half and half. I was impressed by the many choices on the menu. I had the classic sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich was great, but it was served on regular toasted and buttered bread, which was no match for the generous amount of dressing. After two messy bites that almost wound up with dressing on my computer, I gave up and ate it with a knife and fork. I'd swap the bread for a hearty bun. It was delicious though with the right amount of toppings. The chicken was cooked just right. I also loved the music. I'm really looking forward to my next visit.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite restaurant in West Bend. In fact, I'm rather surprised to find a restaurant and bar of this quality in West Bend (despite the fact that I, rather sarcastically, call in the culture hub of Washington County). This restaurant rivals those in much larger cities, such as Milwaukee, Minneapolis, or even, dare I say it, Chicago. Many a lovely nights have been spent in the Poplar, sipping the martinis expertly mixed by the bartender/owner (he even hand-stuffs olives with blue cheese for my gin martinis, upon request...I think I'm in love with him), eating the perfectly grilled steaks, and tempting myself with the large assortment of heavenly desserts. My sister and brother-in-law had their rehearsal dinner here and one of the waitresses made two cakes for dessert. Mind you, I am not a cake person - I much prefer brownies, pies, ice creams, etc, but these cakes, THESE CAKES, were the best that I ate and, quite possibly, better than anything I have yet to eat. Do yourself a solid and get yourself to the Poplar. I consider myself the luckiest gal in the world knowing that it's just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from my parent's place. I have stumbled home from the Poplar more than once. And it was the best night of my life every time.
My favorite restaurant in West Bend! This place has a cozy, yet elegant atmosphere with 5 star quality food and equally amazing service!
The best cuts of meat in West Bend. Terrific staff, and a great cocktail menu. Great selection of scotch also! Every time I've had the risotto, it has been cooked perfectly. Only recommendation would be to add a relish plate. I know that's kind of supper-clubish and north-woodsy, but hey - it's Wisconsin! Love the Poplar Inn - it's where I take out of town guests when I want to impress them.

Yum!! The burgers are the best... Just don't forget the homemade pickles!! Sooo good!
Only 4 out of 5. The duck strips were not the best. What was the best...the service. Dawn should be bartender of the year. Full bar and right on it! Burgers great! Order any one and you'll be happy. On business for one night. Thanks Yelpers! Helpful reviews.
The bartenders, cook & waitstaff are very friendly. The pub food is great. It's a fun place & Dawn definitely makes it that way. The duck strips need some improvement. The burgers are fantastic!

We stopped by after going to the social security office for a quick bite to eat. My husband was a bit skeptical but I convinced him and we were both so happy we did! So this is a house turn restaurant place with not a whole lot of seating. It is so nice inside with lots of pictures on the walls and a dog theme throughout the restaurant. They even have a small Christian gift shop with cute inexpensive things. I ordered the Chicago style hotdog and it was delicious! While my husband ordered the Italian beef sandwich and that was outstanding! He couldn't stop talking about it! Overall cute restaurant, good prices, and great food! We will definitely stop by again!
I like coming here because the food is good, inexpensive, and you can see the money spent benefits a local family, rather than a faceless corporation. The menu is limited (hot dogs, Italian beef...), but what is served is done right! My favorite? The Chicago Dog. They have free popcorn sometimes, too.
The hot dogs are really good and made with all different toppings. The hot dogs come in all different sizes, including one so big it is a food challenge. I get the 'puppy dog' and my dad gets the 'footlong'-- something for everyone. There are other sandwiches, too, but I come for the hot dogs. The free popcorn is awesome, too.

I try other pizza places but always go back to Sals. It's great and my kids love the buns. Also, the delivery guys are very nice.
We got delivery, so I can't speak to the experience in the restaurant itself. However, the guy on the phone was very friendly and they had no issues with delivering to our location on the outskirts of town. We ordered one of their stuffed pizzas and some cannolis. The large pizza was massive; I think we gnawed on it for four days afterward. It was very good and arrived hot with marinara on the side for dipping (no sauce actually inside the pizza). The cannolis were fabulous; they tasted like they were about 1000 calories each-- I don't want to know how close they really were! Given the option of these guys or the chain pizza delivery, I'll take Sal's any day. Will definitely have to try the normal pizzas next time.
We happened to be in West Bend over the weekend for a little league tournament. I'd never been there before. My husband and I ventured downtown for a bite as we had some time to kill. We stopped into Sal's for a slice and now I'm sad.... Sad that West Bend is 90 min. away from Madison because that was some seriously fabulous pizza, damn good in fact!!! I ordered a calzone-like slice that had a thin top crust in addition to the bottom crust with a filling that consisted of mozzarella, ricotta, sausage and pepperoni. SO amazing - creamy and crisp and chewy and salty and full of flavor! Dare I say, it was practically perfect! My slice was accompanied by a bright flavored and garlicky marinara for dipping that was so good it just drove the awesomeness factor through the roof! Hear me now and believe me later. Drop in for a slice when you're in the area or just stopping through on your way to somewhere else. You will be happy and satiated and so very glad you did!!!

I enjoyed my meal here. Friendly staff too. I would recommend this Buffalo Wild Wings to anyone who is looking for good food in the west bend area. They are quick and friendly!
Really, all your domestic beers are the the same? Really? You need other domestics than boring high school beers. Good television selection, and most of the football games being played. But will travel to Milwaukee next week.
Friends and I are in town for West Bend Cache Ba$h. Honestly we usually try to pick local places when we're in town because we have all the chains home in Chicago. Normally we have pretty good results with that strategy but, last night, after a disastrous experience at a local joint, we decided just to head here to BWW since it is a known quantity. We didn't just have a better experience than we'd had at the place we left, we had EXCEPTIONAL service here. The wait staff were attentive, friendly and cheerful -- and we were a big group, 11 I think, including a friend visiting from The Netherlands. We were so very impressed. This was for dinner on Saturday. Four of us returned for lunch on Sunday. We had a server who was only working her fourth shift since starting (Michaela) and she was delightful and eager to do a good job. All in all, two excellent visits. The food was also quite good with several new menu options and specials that we enjoyed.

Walden-A Supper Club

2472 Wallace Lake Rd
West Bend, 53090
Reviews:
My parents back in the day (1954-1960) owned a cottage on Wallace Lake, about 4 houses down from what now is Walden's Supper Club. Back then I believe it was called Carl Hansen's Supper Club (circa 1959) and then Dot's. I am so very happy and feel blessed that this supper club is still going as we had dinner there for my 60th birthday this past May, 2015, and that evening it was 56 years TO THE DAY and minute that I celebrated my 4th birthday with my parents, godparents and other family members at this supper club in 1959. It was surreal. The walls are still the knotty pine as I remember.. I remember that night vividly, I remember the flash bulbs going off to take a picture with the owner at that time who was very good friends of my dad, Carl Hansen and myself. I remember the flash bulbs going off taking a picture of my beloved parents and myself... to be lucky enough to have celebrated my 60th birthday in the very same spot at the very same moment leaves me speechless. It really meant a lot to me. (I was a little crazy showing my 4th birthday pictures that I brought along to the owners and some of the customers but they seemed to enjoy it!) Walden's is the epitome of the great supper clubs of the past, DO NOT CHANGE A THING! The atmosphere is awesome, the view of my beloved Wallace Lake is so cool and the food and drinks are top notch. Their prime rib is outstanding and I'm very fussy with my prime rib! It was so tender, you could cut it with a knife. I totally am in love with Walden's and I wish it was closer to my home because I would make my husband take me to dinner there every weekend, and I'm not kidding! Bucket List: I want to purchase my parent's old cottage! So many fond memories of that restaurant/building of past and I look forward to many dinners at Walden's in the future. Thanks for keeping this very special supper club alive! I'm very thankful!
I absolutely love old Wisconsin supper clubs. Walden-A is everything you would want a supper club to be. Their fish fry is fresh, crispy, and it comes with a salad bar. The salad bar had all the usual suspects (pasta salad, pea salad, green salad and toppings, etc.) They also serve Spotted Cow on tap. It's the perfect place for a family dinner. Yum.
My husband and I love going to Waldens. Its relaxing sitting at the bar having a cocktail before were seated in the dining room. The view of the lake is great and in summer you can see the action on the lake. Always have good service and the food has always been good. We like the salad bar. Its small but it offers just the right stuff. Love the steaks , ribs and chicken. The warm bread they give you is great too,

The second worst pizza I've ever had. This deep dish is just a thin crust with a high crust.
This proved to be a nice surprise. The pizza was very good, and we loved our waitress in "The Underground." The Underground had windows to the outside, and it was very nicely decorated. Overall we enjoyed this place and will come back lots of times. Our only complaint was that the bill was impossible to understand. They should consider doing a much better job explaining the charges.
The best pizza I've ever had. Made even better by an amazing staff and owners. You can not go wrong by going to Maricios.
