Ahhhh I'm going to keep this short since I thought long and hard about this review. The staff = the best part of the experience. Our server was hilarious and we really enjoyed him. The dipping oil comes with a dollop of roasted garlic and the lasagna has braised short rib in it. So good. But let's be honest, I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. I think if you want mid-range Italian food, but don't want to go to a chain like Maggiano's then this place is good. The little touches really help elevate their dishes, but after I ate, I felt like Jim Carey in Liar Liar: "I've had better"

Found out that it was 10 Days of Tosa so why not get a great deal?? $10 lunch, yes please. The food was amazing. Started with a small side salad and a side of caesar dressing. A couple of my girlfriends upgraded to a small Caesar salad for and extra $2. I had the carbonara and loved it!! It was done perfectly and the sauce was light and tasty. Another friend ordered the mozzarella panini which came with a side of eggplant fries. They looked so amazing and luckily my friend allowed us to sample one. Oh my!!! They were soooo yummy. I would not hesitate to order a side of "fries" next time as an app. My other friends ordered the crab ravioli and couldn't stop raving about that either. We ended our lunch with some fresh raspberry sorbet. It was the perfect way to end a sunny day on their fabulous patio. On the way out we got to meet the chef and raved to him about our server, Cesar and the food. Will definitely be back for lunch or dinner.

Excellent restaurant. Service was friendly, timely and helpful. Bruschetta was outstanding as was salad and the eggplant Parmesan was light and some of the best I've had. They serve wonderful warm bread with roasted garlic in olive oil. Outstanding, and they were not stingy when we asked for a refill. Three of us split two excellent pasta dishes for a main course and everyone was thrilled. Sauces were light, and the spicy red sauce was really complex and beautifully seasoned - not too hot but enough heat. All this and the free glass of wine special on yelp plus pretty reasonable prices given the quality of the experience means we can't wait to go back.

So I'm rating this four stars for the experience. When I invited my classmate to an advance screening at AMC Mayfair, she had mentioned that she had a taste for Italian Food. So after the movie, I searched Yelp for some nearby recommendations and I remembered that this was one of the places that I had wanted to try out. Now, by this time, it was about 9:30p and they closed at 10p. When we came in, they were very polite and wasn't irritated that we showed up less than an hour before closing. The waiter seated us, placed a napkin in our laps, and filled out glasses with iced water. He was very attentive and even honored my Yelp coupon for a complimentary glass of their House Wine. I ordered the Insalata Caprese and my classmate ordered the Linguini con Fruti di Mare. We asked our waiter to load it up with Parmesan Cheese. My Insalata Caprese tasted very fresh and the mozzarella cheese was very fresh as well. I ordered a glass of the Lambrusco House Wine (per the recommendation of the waiter since I was torn between that and the Moscato) and it was delicious! Next time I will order it with a pasta with red sauce. My classmate enjoyed her meal as well. We will definitely return!

We had a gift card from a friend and decided to try Il Mito. We waited a good while before the waiter came to us... and there were only three tables occupied when we got there.. and three waiters. We were given menus and he went away again. We knew what we wanted.. but he insisted on giving us a run down of the days "specials". None of which changed out minds. The food was nice but not memorable. My Iced Tea had a very long brown hair in it.. my waiter was almost bald.. so it was not his. The plates were chipped.. and I don't mean just one. Water glasses were top heavy... I knocked mine over by just glancing it. The next table over did the same thing. A third was almost spilled but the mother-in-law at that table was watching with a careful eye after the other two and caught it before it flooded the bread. (good catch) The restroom by the "cooking school" side gives a view of the back hallway and the end of the kitchen. You can see where the garbage is stacked up every night.. as the painted walls are very dirty and the floor greasy from years of not being cleaned right. A few sheets of plastic paneling like that used in kitchens would fix this issue... but right now it looks like a back alley in Italy. Speaking of Italy, there is a HUGE painting/map of Italy on the wall.. but too tall to fit that wall, so it is oddly hung sideways... which just seems a bit strange Parking was fairly easy. This is in a very popular "trendy" part of North Ave. in Wauwatosa. With the exception of the water glasses, appeared to be kid friendly as the restaurant filled up nicely while we were there.. and a half dozen children were there with their families. Lots of hard surfaces.. so as the place filled up.. it did become noisy.

Absolutely fantastic. We had a large group for the personal cooking demonstration by Chef Michael Feker himself. The cooking area was great - we got to see the chef cook the meals in front of us and explain the dishes as they were being prepared. He was a lot of fun and very entertaining. The food was amazing and the wait staff was very attentive. Would definitely recommend.

A long overdue update about my latest experience at Il Mito. Il Mito absolutely kills it for larger groups. I was in charge of planning a lunch for 15 people in appreciation for contributions to my doctoral dissertation. MCW folks usually frequent the restaurants closest to the college (Eddie Martini's, Cafe Hollander, Le Reve, etc.), but I really wanted try something new. I e-mailed Stacy Prowse (who is in charge of bigger groups and events), and together, we crafted a menu that I thought my guests would appreciate: Bruschetta Romana, Calamari, Il Mito's seasonal chopped vegetable salad with white balsalmic dressing, lasagna bolognese, tortelloni with portobella mushrooms, leek, and lemon reduction, and gnocchi with rabbit, tomatoes, fennel and arugula. I asked for the meal to be served family style, and was able to check out the venue ahead of time to be sure that the space was adequate (it was). When the big day arrived, my guests were comfortably seated, and we sampled wines to pair with our meal. The red and white suggested by our server complemented our food wonderfully. The meal was timed to perfection, without any feeling of being rushed, but not waiting around endlessly. And my guests were very impressed. I heard several "how have we never been here before"-s, and "I need to bring my wife back here!"-s. Thanks for making me look like a rock star, Il Mito! ;)

You can't go wrong here. I personally loved the food, experience and the ambiance overall was fairly decent for a location in tosa. My husband who is not a italian food love (yes those type of ppl exist haha ) had other great options too. Food We had to try the pizza since there were a lot of reviews. Wo i convinced my 5 year old to order the pizza. I agree with other yelp reviewers. The pizza it very good. I ordered - rabbit gnocchi z(why not try something differe). It had a slight gamy favor to it which was complemented by the creamy sauce. Love it! I recommend trying it if you want something different. Steak(cant remember the exact name of the dish)- my husband loved it Pork chopps- our oldest son enjoyed this. I had a bite of this dish and i really enjoyed the seasoning that went into the pork. Thanks to yelp i got a free glass of wine ! While this could be a great option for those who live in the area, i am not sure whether i will return though. I recommend others to try this place out!

Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and we were the only people there. Our server was very friendly - but a little akward being the only people in the place. I assume it gets much busier for lunch. The food was good and the free glass of wine for checking on in yelp was a nice little bonus.

My favorite restaurant! Chef Feker is a personality and clearly a talent. His dishes are beyond scrumptious and the seating is comfortable. Each employee seems to care about your experience there. The menu is so varied...I could spend every night there for a month and not have the same thing twice. The hard part is finding something I don't love enough NOT to order a second time! His wine pairings make the meal. And when Michael is in the house it makes the experience that much better! No wonder he's so popular. Thanks for the wonderful food and fun times!

My friends and I came for a late dinner. I'd recommend calling ahead for a reservation on the weekends. We had a group of seven, and we would have definitely had a large wait if not for the reservation! We were seated in an awkward corner table, but the highlight was watching Chef Michael Feker himself give a group demonstration within ear shot. I'm glad we had this spot. Some of the tables for two along the wall looked quite cramped. The food was delicious. The roasted garlic with olive oil appetizer was incredible. I could have had a meal of just that! Everyone enjoyed what they had. I had the duck, and it was good. This place is a favorite among my friend's parents, and I can see why! It's a great place for a date, groups, and anything in between. The check-in glass of wine is a great bonus, but this place doesn't need gimmicks to get me to come back!

I recently ventured back here after not eating here for nearly 2 years, but Il Mito still has my heart. The seasonal butternut squash soup with garlic chips that I had was delightful. A perfect dish for a cold Milwaukee night. Smooth. Creamy. A hint of sweetness. With the texture of the chips and the bountiful bread to dip in it....it was wonderful. I opted just to get a small plate of a salad with beets and ..maybe artichoke hearts or potatoes... I can't quite remember, but it was tasty. Not 5 stars tasty, but filling and fresh. My husband had a larger dish, of which he cleaned the plate. I think it was a special of the day, and he thought it was special. Service was solid. No privacy, as the tables are quite close to each other, but I've found that sometimes people have more interesting things going on in their lives than I do in mine. Dinner for two, with one glass of wine was around $50.

Have been to Il Mito twice now. After my first visit I wondered why on earth I hadn't been to Il Mito before. Their food is outstanding. You'll start off with the rosemary bread served with garlic and olive oil. I've also ordered the traditional bruschetta as an appetizer twice. This app is great and the bread is soft (I don't like it when bruschetta is served on crusty, crumbly bread). For the main meal I've had the lamb shank and a special-short ribs. Both were fall-off-the-bone, tender, mouth wateringly delicious. Sides such as polenta (yum), mashed potatoes, and veggies have been fantastic as well. If you check in on Yelp they'll give you a free glass of house wine (nice). I have also tried the tiramisu and it was a huge, scrumptious piece of tiramisu. Service is just right. There have been a few snafus each time I've been here like an air conditioner leaking and glasses and plates being chipped. Not the end of the world, but things that could be improved upon. Right now I'd say they're more of a 4.5 star place, but I'll round up. Overall this is a solid local establishment with great Italian eats.

We made reservations for 8pm on Friday night for a table for 4. Our table wasn't ready when we got there and needed to wait another 15-20 minutes. If you are wanting food in a hurry this is not the place, you are looking for an Olive Garden. Il mito is a slow down enjoy wine food and company type place. But this was a great meal! Ricardo was our waiter and was great! He was friendly and attentive but gave us our space when necessary. I had the seafood linguine it was very good! It didn't taste fishy at all even though there was scallops, shrimp, clams and muscles in it. Moscato Asti was great! I will for sure be returning and trying other dishes as well and trying to convince my certain someone to take me there for a cooking class or two.

Very courteous staff which makes dining the experience that it is. I had the Fettuccini carbanera and enjoyed it very much. The prices are so reasonable and a free glass of wine? Yes please! I like these nicer places in Wauwatosa...nice break from downtown dining.

This place went above and beyond all of my expectations for not just Italian food but any type of food. I got my free glass of wine through yelp and started with the seafood small plate then had the duck tortellini and ended with the tiramisu. Every single bite was fantastic with fresh and fulfilling flavors. The staff and atmosphere was also great! Walking in it had a very upscale and fancy feel, but the staff was the perfect mix of professional meets friendly and charismatic. I absolutely loved this restaurant and I can't wait to go back!

Let me start this review by stating that the food is very good. However, the restaurant promises to offer gluten-free dishes and says it is committed to having these dishes because the chef's mother has Celiac's disease (as does my mother). My mom and I tried this restaurant twice and she got very, very ill both times. (I'll spare you the details.) We understand the risk of eating out with Celiac's disease, but it was a huge disappointment for both of us, especially my mom, the one who had to suffer. She ended up being awake for an entire night getting sick and had to go to work the next day. She called the restaurant to tell them about the situation, and they simply told her they'd tell the chef. Personally, I don't believe they did enough to make the situation right. Unfortunately, we won't be back and I don't advise those with Celiac's disease to eat here either.

I had high hopes, but was unfortunately disappointed. The service was slow and inattentive. We made reservations for 7:30, but weren't seated until almost 8 and our waitress didn't even come over for another 10 minutes. Our appetizer took a half an hour to arrive once we ordered it, and my water glass sat empty the majority of the meal. The food was OK, however my husband's dish still contained a rabbit bone, which he ended up having to remove from his mouth after biting into it. For the price we paid, that shouldn't be happening. Although this experience was not ideal, we will probably try Il Mito again since it has such good ratings. Hopefully it will be a better experience.

I've lived in this area for over 10 years and have always wanted to try this place. My daughter swindled me into dinner on Friday and I'm really glad she did! The service was outstanding (I believe his name was Matt) and the food was wonderful. My daughter is 12 so we haven't been to many 'higher class' restaurants as her tastes tend to run towards Taco Bell so it was funny when the waiter came and shook her napkin out to place on her lap. She looked like she was wondering what the heck he was doing in her personal space. We had the risotto cake and bruschetta appetizers which were very tasty (the bruschetta was piled higher than any other I've had). My daughter had the spaghetti bolognese which she declared, as a noodle connoisseur, was delicious. I had a dish with tenderloin and risotto which was also very good.

The 2 of us went for a late Friday night dinner.they are open till10.30 pm. Our waiter -v witty with his one liners. This is one of the places that serves good quality food.we had the the large mushrooms for appetizers.,rabbit gnocchi , lamb shank and chocolate hazelnut for dessert. The lamb shank stole the show., abosutely wonderful. Smoked..and then slow cooked to perfection. The polenta had a nice smoked flavor to it and along with the roasted cauliflower- which perfectly paired with my glass of merlot. KC had ordered a glass of lambrusco which was deliciously sweet n refreshing too.

Went for my husbands birthday back in March. I made a reservation via Yelp. It was a Sunday evening. I mentioned in the reservation that we were celebrating my husbands birthday. First of all, the food was outstanding!!! 5 stars for the food! I had their spaghetti and my husband had I believe like a steak risotto. We both split a Caesar salad. We would definitely return. The only bad part of the evening was the service was very very slow. I don't know if they were understaffed or if it's normally like this but it was very noticeable. They never mentioned a happy birthday to my husband at all, thus my reasoning for giving 4 stars.

I finally made the trek to IL MITO, and I was not disappointed. The hype was lived up to! After a particularly treacherous evening the night before, I opted for only water this time (and lots of it). They provided warm rosemary bread, and an olive oil dipping sauce for the table. I dare say that this was the best part of the meal! They roast fresh garlic and smoosh it up into a paste, which is squirted in the middle of the oil - it is to die for! I split the traditional bruschetta appetizer, which was great. It's hard to screw up bruschetta, but making one that stands out is more difficult. This stood out. The bread was crispy, piled high with fresh tomato and basil pieces, and on the top was a fresh basil pesto. For my entree I chose the chicken dish which had asparagus, a chicken breast, pistachio pieces and gnocchi. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the portion size, but the flavor was wonderful. Other entrees at the table were the lamb shank, the risotto and pork belly, and a risotto and pork loin dish. Everything looked fantastic, and we were all members of the clean plate club. I will absolutely be returning here, whether it be for date night or girls night, this place rocks.

It saddens me that I found out about this amazing restaurant only weeks before moving. I tried this place after falling in love with chef Michael Fecker's Sunday morning cooking show and immediately made a reservation through yelp and also received a free glass of wine through the yelp coupon. This restaurant is a lovely little place located in the heart of Tosa. The food was AMAZING!! I started out with a seafood small plate which was fresh delicious and full of flavor. I then had spaghetti and my girlfriend had the duck tortellini. I have never truly had REAL spaghetti until I tasted Chef Fecjers family spaghetti!! We ended the night splitting tiramisu. Everything was sooo good I couldn't stop smiling! This is a definite stop the next time I'm in the area.

Excellent food. I had the costatine do manzo, which is beef tenderloins with a balsamic reduction and my husband had the carbonara. The food was excellent. The service was a little spotty but the food made up for the service.

I really didn't know the area and fully relied on Yelp for a place to dine in. Wanted to experince the place after reading all the sweet reviews. It was a nice surprise! Quite a moody place with minimal lighting. Staff were great and food even better. I would actually say that the food is exceptional! We would definitely visit again and explore the menu.

We came in on a Sunday and were astonished at how busy it was here. The waiter, Jeff, was friendly and accommodating in splitting some plates for us. The 4 stars is not for the pork chop that was supposed to be slow cooked, but ended up being rather dry. However the creme brulee made up for the shortcomings of the Secondi. Try the torteloni with duck and portobello mushroom. If I return, I may come and try the gnocchi with rabbit. But by all means try the creme brulee.

I need to go back here again! The whole experience was wonderful. The service was excellent and the food was top notch. Everyone there was so nice and very professional yet welcoming. The menu has so many things I wanted to try but went with the risotto cakes which were nicely done. For my main course I had a basic pasta in a tomato sauce but wow was it good. Sometimes simple dishes can surprise you with the flavors they can pack. And this was one of those times. Obviously the chef knows his stuff! PLUS A FREE GLASS OF WINE WITH YELP CHECKIN!

My boyfriend and I came in at 9 on a Wednesday night. Let my start by acknowledging our server Luis. His professionalism and hospitality made our first experience outstanding. He was knowledgeable and descriptive about the menu. His timing on our food was prompt without us feeling rushed. The food was fabulous. I had the stuffed chicken. My boyfriend had the lasagna. Both of which were delicious. Even though we were late night guests, we were still treated with the same hospitality as dinner rush. Thanks Luis!

Perhaps we just had a fluke experience, but I did not have a good time at Il Mito. First, let's start with the food. It was tasty, but the portions were tiny for what you paid for. The calamari had almost no calamari (almost all onion strings) and my date said his pork chop was overcooked. I had the gnocchi and liked it. Second, the service was atrocious. We had a reservation although I don't think it was needed as there were lots of open tables in the main dining area. Despite all of these open tables, we were seated in some back room where it looks like they do some sort of cooking demonstrations. We were the only patrons back there throughout the entire meal, and it was incredibly awkward. However, we weren't the only people. There was someone who works at the restaurant working on a computer next to our table. Since it was so quiet, it was obvious he would hear our entire conversation. How are you suppose to actually talk to each other when there is some stranger listening in? Once again, awkward. Why couldnt we sit with all of the other patrons? Why was no one else seated in this odd back room? Anyway, the waitress wasn't great either. She never did refill our drinks after multiple requests. I've never felt that uncomfortable at a restaurant or wanted to leave so badly. Good thing the food came quickly, and there wasn't much of it, so we could hit the road!

Outstanding all the way around! Service was excellent, atmosphere was great and the award-winning bolognese was TO DIE FOR! I wiped the bowl clean with the bread and could have ordered a second. Fantastic experience all the way around!!

Came here on a Wednesday evening. Busy but not packed. Service was good - our waiter was attentive and helpful. The bread was great! One of the highlights of the meal. We had a party of 8 and had a range of entrees from pasta to seafood to land to pizza. The pasta was amazing. Pizza was a bit mediocre in my opinion hence the 4 stars and not 5. Lamb was soft and tender but a bit salty. All in all it was a great experience and not too pricey for what I expected.

  • John W.

The drinks are very expensive and nothing special. The Lions offered are the same, very expensive and nothing special. As an appetizer, we ordered the featured antipasto platter, which arrived on a wood platter the size of a small breadboard and contained two small slices of three different cheeses, a fig, a small piece of apricot, and two small pieces of garlic toast. Making this for a price of $11! We ordered three different pasta dishes, each of which was fairly good. The restaurant is crowded, noisy, and the service is sporadic. On a weekend night there is absolutely no parking unless you're willing to walk for a couple of blocks.

Mothers Day brunch was great! I had made a reservation a week in advance and was a bit surprised by the followup call three days before mother's day- "Are you sure you're coming??? Are you absolutely sure?" I felt bad for our server that the table wasnt ready at our reservation and we ordered drinks at the bar (tipping the bartender) while we waited. I ordered the crab cake special, which to my surprise was much more cake than crab. I wouldnt order crab cakes here again, but there are many other delicious menu items to try.

Il Mito is to die for! I went yesterday with a party of six. I easily made reservations on open table and was able to request gluten free. Upon arrival, we were greeted immediately by the host and Chef Fekker. We were seated immediately. Our drink orders were taken as soon as the specials were shared. The cucumber cosmo was soooo good, I had to have two. The service remained attentive, yet not overbearing throghout the entire meal. The dining room was also cozy and quiet. We were able to converse without yelling. I was the only one who ordered soup as an appetizer, everyone else had salad. The salad was mixed greens with the most delicious vinegarette. They made me the tomato soup special instead of the roasted red pepper soup I ordered. I would have taken it. But the other server caught it just as it came out of the kitchen and fixed the order. I was impressed. They brought me a plate of mini gluten free rolls while I waited. Wow, they were so good it didnt even taste gluten free. The meals were so delicious I dont even know where to start. The special was a fettucini with slamon, scallops and peas. They offered to make it gluten free for me if I was imterested. I chose the fettucini and shrimp with wine reduction sauce. The noodles were tasty and perfectly cooked. The shrimp were tender and tasty. The sauce was seasoned so perfectly it didnt need any salt or pepper. The portion sizes were healthy and appropriate, not mega sized. I still was not able to eat the soup or entree by myself, but I did have room for dessert. They gave me a free dessert because I had to wait for my soup. Very unexpected but appreciated. I had the crem brulee. That was the first time I have ever eaten an entire dessert by myself. So creamy and rich. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their tiramisu, chocolate cake and glazed pears. The meal was pretty much perfect. I was impressed with their gluten free/food allergy knowledge and accommodations. I felt safe eating there. I did not feel like I was a burden or being singled out for my celiac. I had a huge smile on my face the entire visit due to the menu, excellent service and heavenly food. I will be sure to go back more often now.

The menu here is refreshing. The chef is clearly open to trying dishes that are out of the traditional Italian staples. My husband was very pleased with his lasagna that included layers of mushroom and steak. My entree was the schnitzel with a side of raddichio wrapped in bacon. It ( the raddichio) wasn't the most flavorful, but I appreciate that it wasn't boring. The only reason I give 4 stars is bc the cocktails were slow to arrive. Our waiter Nick was very affable and the atmosphere lends itself to a lovely night out.

This place is quaint, adorable and cozy. We came on a rainy, cold night, and it hit the spot. The drinks are fantastic - well crafted and generous towards the alcohol side. Check in on Yelp or Foursquare - you get a free glass of wine. The bread and olive you are served is delicious and warm. I probably could have taken out the basket myself if we weren't with another couple. My dinner was outstanding. I got the special which was a hearty combination of big noodles, tender boar (yes, boar) and woody mushrooms. Delicious. The leftovers were faaaaannnnnstastic. One star knock down for the awkward, overbearing yet never around when you needed him waiter. I was reassured by friend, however, that this service was not typical. Perhaps I should go back to give the waitstaff another shot. I mean... it would only be fair (ImaginingPastaAndBreadAndWine).

My wife and I had an excellent experience here. Our server, Nick, was very knowledgable. He suggested the perfect wines to pair with our entrees and was able to convince me to try duck for the first time. The food was delicious. I loved my meal and my wife enjoyed her stuffed chicken breast. We shared the tiramisu for dessert and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Overall, I will recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal in wauwatosa and we will definitely come back!

Enjoyable dinner overall. Had an opentable reservation but didn't really need it. Free glass of wine with check in on yelp (anything by the glass). We split the veal marsalla special and the carne pizza. The veal was extremely tasty and was served with a pesto gnocchi that seemed a little undercooked (too firm) but the flavor was still good. The pizza was fine. Nothing special. The crust was crispy which I like but otherwise the flavor was pretty standard. Meal also came with focaccia bread (delicious) and a garlic and olive oil spread that we demolished. Service was great and overall very pleasant meal

enjoyable experience and would return. arrived 5:30pm sat night valentine's day without reservation hoping for a bite before the rosebud theater a 6:45 showing. we were offered the table right by the door as the only option or the bar . ut was the coldest day of the winter so far so the bar it was. we were able to order off the menu and were served the bread plate with oil and garlic. nice bite sized pieces in a basket that were replenished at will. we had the carbenara and tortelloni with duck and mushrooms. super tasty meals about $16 entrees.

I have been to this restaurant many times and find the local organic ingredients wonderful. On my last visit, I was part of a seven person party. We ordered drinks, salads, entrées and dessert. The food was excellent, the waitress a bit snobby, but we looked the other way. When it came time to pay the bill we noticed a mysterious $50 charge (they use hand written tickets there) added to the subtotal. We thought it might be gratuity. She explained that it was a for a second round of drinks. We added the bill up about a dozen times and kept coming up short. Finally I asked her again and she gave me the same line, however I went through all the drinks we had (written on back by her) and they added up to less than $100 dollars. In the end we had to get a manager involved who re-calculated the bill and gave us a drastically different total. She was trying to pocket 50 extra bucks and then have us tip on top of that 50. We were appalled. The manager was awkward and smiled at us too much, making me feel like our experience was a joke to him. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant in my life. Headed out to IL MITO with a few fellow Yelpers to give it a try for a Sunday Dinner. Ambiance: We were near the bar at a long set of tables. It was dark yet pleasant inside. A fellow diner had to move because the AC was dripping on her, a bit of an oversight that needs to be dealt with in a establishment of this quality and cost. Not very crowded and nice music. Service: Waiter was pleasant enough, nothing above and beyond. Food: We started at the bar where I ordered the house Sangria. It was light and had fresh fruit bits in it. It was good but bland and I kept sipping at the ice cubes longing for something a bit more satisfying and flavorful. For starters, the fryer was broken so that truncated our options. I split the risotto torta roasted seasonal vegetable risotto cakes - good, nice texture and the dressing on the greens was sweet and tangy We all had a hard time deciding what to order because there were so many delightful options from lamb to mussels, veal to duck and more. I skipped the salad, pizza and pasta and ordered the braciola di maiale pork loin scallopini sautéd with sun-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, cannallinni beans and fresh basil. Served with sage-infused risotto and sautéd spinach. It was good, and a large portion especially compared to my fellow diner portions on their chicken dish. I wish the flavors had melded together a bit more to make it deeper but it was still good. I was wayyyyy to full for the tiramisu but must return for that. Maybe our co-diner who has a nice customer rewards card in his pocket will take us back for dessert! Overall: It was a good experience, good food and good company...what going out for a bite should be. I few extra steps on IL MITO's part would bump it up to a great experience not just good, but I will still return.

My first visit to ll Mito was a good one. I was with a party of 10 from work. We started at bar and I asked the bartender for a suggestion on a beer that was not heavy, she recommended the Hacker-Pschorr Weiss. OMG, this was one of the best beers I have had in a long time, with a little squeeze of lemon, delicious beyond compare. I eventually had 3. We sat for dinner and the service was quick, attentive and the waiter had a great grasp of the menu. He kept recommended the Lasagna, which many of my guests had, and they all raved about it. Next time I go back I will try the Lasagna. We ordered a bunch of appetizers (cheese plate, bruschetta) all were delicious, albeit a bit small, but they were not very expensive so I guess the portions were in line with the cost. I ordered the osso buco alla griglia, I had never had Osso Buco before and it was very good. Tender and flavorful, I highly recommend. The interior is typically of an Italian restaurant, it was very homey. I highly recommend a visit.

Generally speaking Milwaukee is not a good city for Gluten Free options. This place is the anomaly for sure. Il Mito is a first class restaurant, with fantastic GF options. I am very impressed with it. In fact, I went there twice in the same week, it's that good. Aside from the fantastic GF options, they are all very healthy choices. The wine selection is superb. It's not like a zillion bottles of wine either, they hand pick a few wines that pair nicely with the food being offered. There are maybe 12 choices, which is fine with me. The wait staff is very knowledgeable of the food, ingredients and wine selection. They train the staff well. I found this place through my sister, and I'm glad I did. It's a nice GF Oasis in Milwaukee!

DO: Make yourself a reservation on open table. Check in on foursquare - you get a free glass of wine Order the pizza DON'T: Show up without a reservation - they get snobby Fail to order the pizza - it's a must This is my favorite Italian food in the area. Very reasonable, amazing service, easy parking, and most importantly - fresh, delicious, tasty Italian food.

We moved to Wisconsin 2 years ago from Seattle which is foodie city. We have found very few gems in Wisconsin. This is definitely one. the food was fresh and the flavors exploded on your pallete. The menu had good variations as well as complementing stages. The Appetizers were such they could pair with many different entrees and the salads were exquisite. I had the Fruitti de Marre gluten free as I just found I had celiacs my wife had the lamb shank they were both mouth watering. Dessert was excellent and perfect in portions. This is now going to be a regular in our very small list of restaurants that are tops. We can't wait for the opening of their new one in Hartland where we live.

I hosted a birthday dinner here and I cannot say enough how wonderful Il Mito and all of its staff treated us. We enjoyed an outstanding meal, excellent wine, and perfect, friendly service. Favorite dishes were the baked eggplant appetizer, the beef short ribs, pork scallopini, Brussels sprouts, carrots and creme brûlée. The wine selections were spot on. This was such a treat!

Took my clients out for lunch to bring to this place. It was really dead for lunch and usually I hate places that are dead but we got such a good treatment and got to sit outside that the overall lunch was very enjoyable. So yes, they have small outside seating area with if I remember right a roof above the chairs for some rain protection. There is no view as there is no such thing as view anywhere in Milwaukee burbs but still sitting outside wa great. The place had white cloths but don't be fooled by them, it's very casual. The best thing was service and the waiter. I unfortunately can't remember his name but his knowledge, attitude and demeanor were one of the owner. He was extremely accomodating, immediately moved two tables for the four of us to sit together, was more than happy to suggest wine and knew everything about the dishes. Two of us also checked in on Yelp/Foursquare and he took two glasses of wine off the bill in accordance with the advertised special. From many reviews sounds like the dinner here is excellent but definitely don't hesitate coming here for lunch!

I can't believe I have never reviewed this place! This is one of my top 3 restaurants in the city. This cozy, intimate, Mediterranean/Italian restaurant is a true gem. The staff is very friendly (including Chef Fecker); I prefer to sit at the bar even for meals so I've had a chance to chat with much of the staff. It is tiny, so I would recommend reservations if you are looking for a table or if you are with a group. They start you out with roasted garlic and olive oil and fresh Italian bread. It's pretty amazing. The garlic is sweet from being roasted and the bread is always warm and fresh. I've eaten many things on their changing menu, including the polenta with chicken, the eggplant appetizer, the arrabbiata pizza, gnocchi with short ribs, bacon and Gorgonzola stuffed pork chop, tiramisu, gelato...and probably even more. It's all excellent. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. They also have an extensive specialty drink list and they infuse their own vodkas. I recommend this place to everyone. I also recommend eating at the chef's counter if you ever have the opportunity. Chef Fecker is extremely charismatic and is an outstanding chef making it a really fun, entertaining, and delicious evening out.

I have enjoyed alot of meals here (and at the old restaurant on Virginia), I am a fan of the soup and drinks. Michael's soups are amazing. The first time I saw Split Pea soup on the menu, I told the chef how I hated that soup since I was a kid. He promptly brought me a small bowl to taste (on the house, of course). He turned me into a Split Pea soup Lover on the spot and I haven't looked back! I like their Sangria because it includes Brandy (a nice touch). If their not busy and your nice to the bartender, they have been known to whip up a batch of "experimental" drinks. Now, that's a way to keep the customer happy!

When I make a reservation, I feel that I've entered into an informal contract with a restaurant. I agree to show up at the appointed time - the restaurant agrees to seat me at that time. Not so last night - we arrived on time and were told "they're setting up your table" - never mind the half dozen empty ones....fine. If you've been to Il Mito, you know there's no waiting area so we stood awkwardly in front of the hostess stand for at least 5 minutes, while 2 parties WITHOUT reservations were seated in front of us! Finally we retired to the bar to wait awhile longer. (I'm starting to get irritable now) Finally, we were given a table - and you KNOW it was one of the ones that was empty when we arrived (grrrr). Once seated, our sever appeared promptly. We had drinks from the bar, and wanted to order an app while deciding on entrees. Nope - not allowed. You've got to order it all at once....fine. So we decided....and waited....and waited...and waited. Twenty five minutes to be exact. The non reservations people were enjoying their entrees, we had long empty glasses and neglect. I was about 4 seconds away from getting up when we were finally permitted to order. The food did arrive in a reasonable time and it was delicious. The risotto was nothing short of spectacular. But, our rocky start really soured me and frankly, all I wanted to do was eat up and get out. I know even the best places have off nights. Maybe it had something to do with a wine tasting in the event room next door. Maybe they were understaffed. Maybe I offended the folks at Il Mito by calling ahead, showing up on time and generally acting like a responsible restaurant patron. In the immortal words of Jerry Seinfeld "you can TAKE the reservation...You just don't know how to HOLD the reservation....."

This is just a nice restaurant. We've been here twice now and it was a beginning-to-end nice experience each time. The atmosphere is good, the staff is pleasant and efficient, and the food is fantastic. Last visit, we started with the bruschetta and it was perfect. I find that a lot of places seem to think bruschetta bread should come out hard as a rock. NOT THIS PLACE, it was crispy on the outside, warm and moist on the inside. Tasted great. For the main course, I got the pork chops- also very good. But I think my favorite part of the mean was the side of spinach that came with my pork chops. It was the best spinach I've ever had. Steamed and salted with some garlic (I think). I can't even explain it. It was just really good. Just be sure to make reservations before you go because this place fills up fast!

If you have a hankering for a Negroni, as did I on Friday, Il Mito is the place to go. I wanted to kick off the night with some Campari. Let me say that you will not find a better Negroni than here. It is one of those cocktails that say "Italia." But, all of their cocktails are sure to delight. Try any of them with the bruschetta piedmontese (crusty rosemary ciabatta bread topped with a tapenade of exotic mushrooms and shaved parmesan). After having the appetizer, I was actually sad to go. I will be back for an entire meal, because I have experienced their tasty plates in the past. Il Mito is just a reliable neighborhood gem for any occasion, even if it is just for drinks and an app with friends.

BY FAR MY FAVORITE MEAL OF 2011. ORDERED: zuppa di patate e del pepe (Creamy roasted pepper and potato soup topped with fontina cheese, crispy pancetta and herb croutons.) - $5 calamari e cipollotto fritti (Flash-fried, crispy calamari and Vidalia onions, served with a roasted garlic and lemon aioli) - $10 Homemade crab, shrimp and spinach stuffed ravioli tossed with diced fresh roma tomatoes, sweet peas and dry pack bay scallops in a creamy Spanish saffron sauce. - $21 Chocolate Hazelnut Tort - $6.50 TASTED: *SOUP* The soup was kindly split for two since my girlfriend and I each wanted to try it. The crispy pancetta sank to the bottom like tasty gold nuggets. (I should add that the rosemary dipping bread with olive oil and roasted garlic was amazing.) *CALAMARI* One of the best calamari appetizers I've had. The breading was tissue paper thin and added a nice crunch - that's skill. A pessimist would say the onions are merely filler but they compliment the squid nicely in flavor and add another "O" shape to the mix. Amazing aioli sauce to dip this mix in. *PASTA* I'll admit I'm not a fan of the Italian cuisine - (watching Giada aside) I find it boring. This restaurant CHANGED my perception. I don't think I've ever had handmade pasta before because this dish blew me away. The ravioli had a chewy toothsome texture with a savory flour flavor. The crab and scallops played off the fresh garden taste of the peas and tomatoes. Go order this dish now. *TORT* By this point I was experiencing food nirvana and this chocolate tort probably pushed me into sugar buzz pain territory. The dollop of cold ice cream with warm chocolate and berries was a perfect way to end the meal. POST: I don't know much about Chef Michael Feker other than what I've read on the restaurant website but passion and creativity show through in his food. SERVICE: I like my servers like my food...well seasoned. Our waitress spoke of how the soup recipe hasn't changed for eight years" - good sign she knows the menu by memory. Great service from start to finish.

I can't think of a better place for my 100th Yelp review than Il Mito's. First class Italian dining brought to you by a great chef in an intimate atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. The attentive staff was welcoming and the delicious aromas inviting. Our large group tried many dishes. The antipasto was good and contained some unique Wisconsin fare. The salads all looked great, especially my unique Italian style wedge salad (Insalata Di Cuneo). The butternut squash soup looked incredible. I ordered the pork chop stuffed with bacon and gorgonzola and covered in a pear sauce (Braciola Di Maiale Farcito)... superb! The other main courses, such as the lasagne, looked out of this world. I tasted the Filetto Di Maiale Tortellini (tortelloni stuffed with pork and ricotta, covered in butternut sauce, sage pesto and pine nuts). The flavors were so balanced and nuanced, only a world class chef could do this. As you probably noticed, most of the dishes have Italian names, but the English descriptions are very helpful. I can't say enough about the staff, they took great care to assist us and the small child in our group. We even met the chef, a delightfully funny gentleman who added to the convivial atmosphere. For a taste of Old Italy in the Midwest, this place is hard to beat. I will return...hopefully soon.

Il Mito is a classy yet cozy Italian restaurant adding spice to North Avenue in Wauwatosa. Every time we think of going here on a whim it fails, because you really need reservations unless you're extremely lucky. Turns out other people have heard its good- Go figure! We went here to celebrate my birthday recently and were unable to get a babysitter. Turns out, I don't recommend bringing a loud child here, even though everyone was gracious about it. They gave us crayons to scribble with and offered her a bowl of spaghetti, even though I don't think they have a true kids menu, so we were appreciative to that. But just a heads up, this is the kind of place (at least at 5:30pm when we went there) that plays soft music and people speak in hushed voices with each other. Our food was really delicious! Normally, I am not a bruschetta fan, because lots of people treat it like chopped tomatoes on stale bread. Here is was amazing- a definite recommendation for all. From there, we ordered the pork chop special (sooo good) and a pizza with mushrooms and olives. We came away stuffed and happy! Overall, go here, just call ahead to make reservations and don't bring your toddler unless you want to feel bad for the patrons around you the whole time. Lesson learned.

We've been to Il Mito off and on for several years including their former location on 6th Street. Our recent experience continued pattern of excellent food and service. Our waiter was prompt and willing to answer questions as well as take care of some special requests from one of our dinner guests. I had the lasagna which was flavorful and served in a nice sized portion My wife had the veal which was tender and seasoned perfectly. Despite a moderate crowd the atmosphere was pleasant. Will definitely be back.

Gnocchi. Say it with me. Nyo. Key. Gnocchi. After a brief coaching session on the correct pronunciation of the potatoey pasta, one of my table mates still managed to order the "Notchy a la vodka"... As I quietly shook my downturned head. No worries, our waiter, who has serve us twice now, is far too nice to make anyone at his table feel stupid. So nice, so attentive, that I didn't even mind the puddles of drool below the chins of all my female dining companions. (He's Italian/French if you were wondering). Anyway, this is a restaurant so I should probably mention the food, and based solely on what I have ordered, this would be a squarely three-star review. I thought the short rib sandwich had too much going on and was kinda cold. As for the Frutti di Mare (sp?), I have had better. This dish had an unexpectedly strong fishy taste, and the sauce was underwhelming. Thankfully I asked to have it made spicy, otherwise it would have been pretty boring all around. I did, however, love the lasagna bolognese. It could be the best lasagna I have ever had. So, all in all, the service and a few great dishes make for a comfortable 4-stars. I still think you can do better for Italian in Metro Milwaukee for less money.

Pleasantly surprised - well done Tosa! I'm a downtown gal, and rarely venture out of my staple neighborhoods in search of deliciousness (especially in the winter), but Il Mito is worth it! First off, the staff was great. 2 of us arrived for our 3 person reservation on a Friday night. The host said they "usually" like to seat the whole party and that we could have a drink at the bar. Well, 1 minute of awkwardly standing behind a family (as in kids! at the bar!), I asked the host if she would make an exception and seat us at our table because there was no room at the bar and our other friend was on her way. She said she would seat us without any weird no-it's-our-policy type argument. Bonus. Then, there was a yelp check in offer for a free glass of vino. Double bonus. Our waiter let us each get a free glass! And now onto the food. Sooooo good! We had the calamari which was a tad unique with some string fried onion rings mixed in (possibly some restaurant trickery to make it seem like the plate of calamari is HUGE, but who cares, it was amazing). I had the chicken scallopini and cleaned my plate - which I never do. The chicken was tender with sun dried tomatoes (spinach too maybe?) and fettuccine which was perfectly cooked. Maybe a tiny bit salty, but I love salt, so I liked it. Two thumbs up Il Mito - I'll be back!

I have found my new favorite restaurant....of course it's an 8 hour drive. On a family visit to Wisconsin and I needed a place to eat with my grandma. We originally were going to do EddieMartinies but upon looking at my foursquare I discovered this place- and it had great reviews. We headed over. Parking was pretty easy. It was around 5PM on a Friday night. There is street parking but there is also a public lot across the street if you're having some problems. Upon arriving I immediately loved it. It's a small window front with some outdoor seating and the inside is adorable. Since we were catching up our waiter was very patient with our chit chatting and not really ordering. I was able to score a free glass of wine (thanks foursquare checkin) and we ordered the calamari app. Calamari was a bit on the tough side but still good. Bread and dipping sauce was delicious. However, at one point, with bread still left, the waiter took it away- was kind of odd but I don't need any more carbs anyways. All the food was GREAT. I ordered a sweet and sour chicken dish and it was without a doubt one of the best meals of my life. I couldn't stop eating though I was definitely stuffed. Everyone else experienced just as delicious meals. Def. check it out- what a gem of a place!

Our friends suggested this place for dinner and we were all pleased. They accidentally put our reservation under the wrong last name but we only waited a couple minutes before they seated us. Our server, Jon, was friendly and fantastic. Our drinks and warm, herb bread with olive oil were served quickly. I got the mezzaluna ravioli which was sweet potato and ricotta ravioli with a cream sage sauce. It was delicious and the portion was perfect. My husband and I shared a generous scoop of caramel, pistachio, mascarpone gelato which was great. Our friends also shared a dessert and when our server brought out the bill he informed us that dessert was on the house. What a nice treat! I would definitely go back if they had more vegetarian items!

Had an extremely reasonable but delicious anniversary dinner with my wife on a Sunday night. This is not a restaurant that is for a diner seeking a traditional more formal restaurant. The wait staff will not be over your shoulder for the whole meal. Instead, the wait staff was fun, engaging, and lighthearted. I could see that this may rub certain diners looking for a quiet, formal restaurant the wrong way. On Sundays through Thursdays, there is a 3 course for $29 menu. I chose to order off this menu. My wife and I split the appetizer and desert options while she got a seperate entree. It was pleny of food! Regarding the specific dishes: For an appetizer we had stuffed baby portabella mushrooms. These were stuffed with a mixture of cheeses and shitake baked in tomato sauce. This is definately a great "comfort food" dish with the melted cheese and warm aroma of tomatoes. My main course was the apple-wood bacon and gorgonzola stuffed boneless pork chop. It had a delicious smoky flavor. The edges were a bit dry. It was covered with a brandy and peach sauce, which I felt was a unique fusion of Wisconsin and Italian flavors. It was accompanied by delicious parmesan roasted red potatoes and sauteed spinach. I did feel the spinach lacked flavor. Perhaps, the bacon should have been infused in the spinach, as well. My wife had a pasta special with homemade fettucine, smoked chicken, parmesan cheese and vegetables. I had a couple bites. The smoke flavor on the chicken was delicious. The homemade pasta tasted just as fresh as my grandma's homemade noodles did growing up and was very sturdy. For desert, we had the tiramisu. This was an above-average tiramisu, as the lady fingers were very fresh and flavorful. However, I did not feel it had enough bitter flavor to complement the sweetness. I generally prefer my tiramisu to be dripping from the espresso, and this was not. Finally, our waitress accidentally disposed of my wife's leftovers. Instead, we got complementary chocolate-chocolate chip gelato, which we gave to our baby sitter. We were assured it was excellent! All in all, this was a delicious meal at a small, intimate restaurant. I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars but feel that some imperfections kept this from being an "amazing" meal. That said, I would definately recommend everyone who likes good, fresh food in a relaxed atmosphere check it out. Also, for checking in on Yelp we got free glasses of their Enoteca wines, which were great.

Great food, especially if you've got allergy issues or need to be gluten free. A few execution flaws took it down a star for me. Took clients here for dinner on their recommendation, and I will definitely be back. Recently went to a gluten free diet, this was my first significant dinner out, and I didn't feel that I was sacrificing a thing. One of my companions has allergy issues that were addressed very well - its one of a handful of places he is comfortable eating, which says alot to me. I ordered the GF bolognese, it was superb, although much more tomato based then others I've had. Well seasoned, pasta was as good or better than non-GF pastas I've had. Caprese salad was equally fantastic. My guests ordered the salmon special with polenta, and the GF meat pizza, both were enjoyed. A few minor issues prevented a full 5 stars - my water glass had a huge chip at the base, should have been noticed at some point, but not a deal breaker, by any means. The creme brûlée was not set properly, it was very soupy, with an overly thick crust. The flavor was one of the best I've had, however. I noticed a neighboring table with the same issue. Overall, great food, and good value for the excellent quality. The little details make all the difference between great and stellar, however; I hope my next trip will be stellar.

Absolutely delicious. It is a 4.5 on the scale for me. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, but the tables are a little too close. I was immediately pulled into the menu. Everything looked amazing. I saw the Revival Winning Spaghetti. Honestly, I was shying away from it, because I did not want to try anything simple. However, the waiter said it was anything but simple. I went out on a limb and was not disappointed. It was aromatic, tasty and absolutely amazing. It comes served in a bowl with a generous portion. It was a dark red sauce with chicken, italian sausage and beef. There were pieces of fresh mozarella generously mixed in. My fiance had the three course menu. This included a full appetizer, dinner and dessert for just $25.00. It saves you at least $3, and can save you all the way up to $10. He had the Stuffed Portabello Mushrooms. They come immersed in cheese and are absolutely phenomenal. His dish was the lasagna. Great take on an old classic. The sauce is sweet and the cheese coats the dish. Dessert...wow...Creme Brulee garnished with strawberries. It was fantastic. For the two of us to have an appetizer, two meals, two desserts and a glass of wine, the total was $54.00. There is only street parking available but there is plenty of it around. Take a date, a group of friends or your parents. Just do not miss it!

Been here twice now and has very satisfied with both trips. I have order the stuffed pork chop and the Lasagna in my two visits. I can say that the Lasagna was probably the best I have ever had. The stuffed pork chop was great as well and would order it again without question. I would suggest using the online reservation service as it is simple and easy to use. This place will be crowded on the weekends so make sure to get a reservation.

This is so funny. Late last night, I decided it had been too long since I'd had brunch, so I sent a Tweet out to Milwaukee friends asking if anyone was in the mood for brunch too. One friend who lives in Tosa suggested Il Mito. My other friend (we'll just call him "B") ordered a mimosa. The server, being taught old-school, delivered the women their beverages first (I ordered coffee), but she lost balance of her tray and dumped the champagne flute of OJ on me. She was horrified; she felt so bad. They brought me a warm towel, but the whole left side of my body was, well, drenched. But I still felt worse for her than for myself. My friends and I laughed about it through the whole meal. I still think it's funny, even though I'm doing laundry as I write this. I'm glad I had no plans for afterward! I say this is funny because I was the one who wanted to go to brunch, I'm the one who got doused, and I didn't have to pay --yes, they comped my meal. I figured they would, but I still ordered what I had originally decided on from the menu on the website (grilled portobella mushroom) instead of the special, which would have been more expensive. My friend did order the special-- it was a "stack" of pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto cakes, and over easy eggs, with some fruit and veggies on the side. She really enjoyed it. My portabella mushroom was good. It was sort of a benedict thing., with carbonara sauce (although I tasted no pork flavor at all), not hollandaise. Although the mushroom was marinated in a strong balsamic vinaigrette which kind of dominated the meal, it was served on ciabatta with spinach and a poached egg atop. It was yummy, and I'd get it again. My friend "B" had a smoked chicken frittata to go with his mimosa, which he said was delicious and the fluffiest he'd ever had. I've never had dinner there (I'd only set foot in there once before today for dessert late one evening-- really good coffee and flourless chocolate cake), but based on my experiences, I'd go back. I mean, what are the chances of getting drenched with OJ twice at the same restaurant? Also, if you check in on Foursquare, you get a glass of house wine. I had the Forest Glen pinot grigio - (yes, we met for brunch at 10 a.m. Quit judging me), and it was very tasty-- a sort of pear flavor with a short finish.

This is the 'go-to' date night restaurant for my fiancé and I. We love the ambiance, and the staff is fantastic. I'm always asking for their recommendations and I've never been steered wrong. Portion size is perfect for our appetites, as typically we'll split a salad first and we never leave hungry.

This was a fantastic restaurant and meal, from start to finish. Reservations were easy on-line and there was no wait when we arrived (and they were very busy). Appetizers, dinner and dessert were all amazing. We ordered 4 different entrees and each was awesome. My 89-year-old father said - "This is a keeper. We're coming back here." I agree!

While Il Mito's reviews are generally dripping with good vibes, I'd been suspicious of this beloved restaurant until recently (my usual state of mind regarding supposed "landmarks" or "hot spots"). Having tried the food (and several bites of family members' orders), I can honestly say that I will probably - no, definitely - be returning to Wauwatosa. Everything is fresh. The bread brought to the table, accompanied by a shallow pool of flavorful, pale olive oil, was warm, yeasty, and irresistible. I was sad to see our empty bread basket whisked away without a refill, however, when there was still so much oil to be enjoyed. My order, the tortelloni filled with whipped ricotta and an assortment of mushrooms, was amazing. The best I've ever had. It was a little spicy, but the heat was a welcome compliment to the creamy, mushroom-flecked sauce coating the four large tortelloni that comprise the dish. Upon trying my boyfriend's risotto, I was taken aback by its intense woodsy flavor and aroma. Too much rosemary, maybe? In any case, I didn't care for it. On a more positive note, the texture of the risotto was absolutely perfect. I also ordered a split-pea soup, for which Il Mito is purportedly famous. Although a thinner version of what most people might be accustomed to, Il Mito's pea soup is the most flavorful restaurant soup I've had the pleasure of eating in a very, very long time. It comes with a drizzle of olive oil and bits of proscuitto (correct me if I'm wrong, please!) fried to crispy perfection. Whole peas punctuate the occasional bite, lending sweet bursts of starchy goodness to the thin - but not objectionable - texture of the soup. The service was excellent.

Fantastic Italian food in a cozy and fun atmosphere. The food is delicious, the service is outstanding, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are perfectly sized. The smoked chicken tortellini are outstanding, and the featured wines are relatively inexpensive and very good. The chocolate hazelnut tort is great. They usually offer free wine with each Yelp or Foursquare check-in, too. The head chef also offers cooking classes, which is very unique and seems like a fun concept. A hidden gem on North Ave.

Absolutely love this place!! This is the second time I have been here. This time I took my mom and brother for Sunday brunch and everything was amazing. I had the spanish dish (an omelet with prosciutto, sundried tomato, and manchego cheese), my brother had the Italian dish (linguine with different seafood) and my mom had the spanish style french toast which was delicious if you like sweet things. Everything had tons of flavor. The bread they serve with everything comes with cinnamon butter and a strawberry sauce - delicious!! If you use foursquare, every time you check-in you get a free glass of wine. Brunch was as equally delicious as their amazing dinners. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!!

My bride and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night around 8 pm. As we were ushered to our table, our waitress says to us "the kitchen closes at 9pm"... Plenty of time, no?Judging by the number of times she checked her watch, she wanted us served and out the door. The waitress came by to get our order a few minutes later- after we asked for a few more minutes, she repeats "the kitchen closes at 9" and again checks her watch. Ok maybe she had to get home to care for her grandkids or catch up on some reruns, but it sure would have been nice to end an awesome weekend on a great note. On to the food-(the warm bread /olive oil they bring out is amazing) I feel bad ordering spaghetti at restaurants since it was commonly my cheap/fast meal of choice in college but how could I resist when the dish is entitled "family revival award winning Nobel peace prize Grammy winner spaghetti"... Or something along those lines. So I ordered that along with the funghi salad. Fungi salad: tangy and delicious despite an otherwise standard arrangement Spaghetti: great! I slurped it up in minutes. Only after I finished did I realize how quickly I had finished- my wife was not yet half done with her entree. We finished our meal at 830pm as guests that had just arrived were being seated by a different waiter. I noticed that they were not rushed nor given time restraints, only kind courtesy and great service. Overall: Both were delicious, bread was awesome, waitress was a tad on the inconsiderate side. No one likes to be rushed when eating a nice meal. Overall experience was 3 star at best. Another case of great food spoiled by poor service.

As the previous reviews mentioned, this place is small, so if you're coming with a large party (my group size was 18), definitely make reservations beforehand. Street parking wasn't too bad for dinner on a Sunday. I ordered the mezzaluna ravioli di patate dolci dish, which was appetizing, but the meal was pricey ($13!) for the 4 pieces of ravioli, so if you want to have a fuller meal, I'd recommend ordering something else.

If you are looking for a great brunch outside of downtown, you must have Il Mito on your list. For a little more than $20 per person, this restaurant is a great place to visit after Sunday services or with your family. Located on North Avenue in Wauwatosa, there is plenty of street parking or even a city parking lot across the block. So, don't pack your bags for Italy for a Sunday brunch, visit Il Mito and be prepared for a delicious meal. Read the full review at MilwaukeeBrunchReviews.c… - milwaukeebrunchreviews.c…

Street parking challenging at times, yep. Small restaurant occasionally puts one too close to others, definitely. Awesome food and wait staff that makes any of the other inconveniences seem totally worthwhile, you bet. In the mood for a big booth and convenient parking with no reservations? Olive Garden's probably a better option for you. You want a spaghetti that rocks and will leave you believing that a little inconvenience is inconsequential? This is your place.

I was recommended this place from a few friends and was NOT disappointed. First off, making reservations online (through Yelp!) was so easy... I almost didn't think that it would work. Reading previous reviews I was prepared to struggle to find parking, but honestly, after living on the east side, it wasn't too bad at all. As for the actual dining experience it was amazing - well worth money spent on the dinner. Our waiter was very helpful by making recommendations and was very attentive. The portions were the perfect amount - truly quality over quantity. The atmosphere was intimate and cozy - perfect for a nice dinner with someone special or close friends. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Wow. Every time we dine here, the service and food are awesome. Try the polenta!!!! It is to die for. Never had polenta as good anywhere and I am a California polenta aficionado. Five stars for the food and service. ONE star for the sound system that sounds like the single broken radio speaker of my 1963 chevy.... tinny and distorted.... and to make it worse.... it was playing god awful distorted opera tenors.... aaaahhh.....

Definitely got food poisoning from bad spinach during a spinach recall so it's not Il Mito's fault. What is the owner's fault is the poor and off the wall treatment he gave me when I sincerely phoned him to let him know. He swore at me on the phone. Who does this? Not a nice person. I have not and will not ever eat there again. This guy is rude.

I live out of town, whenever I come to visit my parents in Milwaukee meal time can be a challenge. I'm a vegetarian 'foodie' and my dad is all meat and potatoes. Il Mito has become one of the very few places around town that we all agree... DELICIOUS! They also have GREAT service! They rarely turn away a group on a busy night, instead they'll set up your very own table in the 'classroom' next to the main dining area (they've done this for us twice!). Also, they have a great foursquare special, so be sure to get your 'check-in' on. Always a special treat to eat here.

We've now been here at least 6 times over the last 3 years....and have never been the least bit disappointed. Tonight, we had "Jon L" as our server, and I must say he enhanced our experience exponentially! This guy is the best server I've had in some time--just a great personality with a lot of character. Despite being absolutely packed, the pacing of the meal was perfect--no long delays, but definitely not rushed. Between the reliable menu, great staff, value, and neighborhood feel, this has to rate as one of my top 5 restaurants in the area. If you come on a Friday or Saturday night, you may even be treated to an impromptu operatic performance by a regular patron!

Amazing gluten-free food. I had the Pollo pizza with goat cheese and it was great. I also had the best creme brulee ever here.

Food was average-good. We were there on Saturday night, party of six. You need to leave a credit card number by the way, to make a reservation for a party that size. Between all of us we had drinks, soup, salad, dinner and shared a dessert. We were celebrating 2 birthdays, it went unacknowledged by the waiter. My husband was also dripped on all night where he was sitting. The waiter said it was just the condenser from the air-conditioner. Not what you want to happen when you spend over $300 for dinner. The waiter and hostess didn't seem to think it was a problem. Won't be back.

Juneau/astor ave. My family and I wanted to try Il Mito because I heard they offered gluten free foods. I am not doing the diet because of the fad, I have a gluten intolerance therefore get sick. I ordered the potato leek soup (gf) and the chicken Marsala (gf). When I got home I noticed I was not feeling well. I know that the food I ate had not in fact been gluten free because I became sick. Anyone with a gluten intolerance knows the feeling. I woke up and still felt extremely full because my body does not digest - there was no way my food was gluten free. Needless to say I unfortunately I will not be back to Il Mito .

Dinner at Il Mito was well-above my expectation. I took my family there for my graduation dinner & what a success it was! The atmosphere is very casual. The restaurant was bustling w/ customers. I ordered the fettuccine anatra confit & tried my first rabbit dish. Delicious! The rest of my family members also enjoyed their dishes, too. Good portions. The only downside would be the cramp dining area (our table of 4 was very close to various other tables of 4 ... I could clearly hear the conversation at the next table).

Our dinner here left us full and happy. I had the pork chop, thick & flavorful, and the sauce reminded me of sauerbraten. I sampled the ravioli that the others ordered and found it delicious.

Very nice and clean little restaurant. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The Lasagna Bolognese was extremely salty. The tiramisu was creamy and delicious.

There's something about the combination of Il Mito's food (so good you make everyone else at your table try what you're eating) + service (fine dining quality service with personality...not intrusive, but not cold-fish-like either) + atmosphere (cozy neighborhood joint) + random appearances from the chef/owner to greet your table = seriously good times. I am a huge fan of Il Mito! It's great on a cold winter's night (save room for dessert); perfect for a pre-concert meal; fun for Sunday brunch with a group in summer... We're lucky to have it in the neighborhood!

We went for a weekday lunch, or shall I say snack, as it turned out! It wasn't that busy, but our server seemed rushed anyway, so the hostess took pity on us & at least gave us water & the specials. We HAD looked forward to trying the pumpkin ravioli, & stared at the 3 little raviolis & 1 piece of bread that constitued lunch. With all of Chef's promotion of this restaurant, our sample of his cooking was gone in a flash. Would another few ravoili or another piece of bread put this local business we were trying to support under? Maggianos here we come!

My coworkers and I ordered at the new eastside location. We ordered the pollo panini and the meatball panini( I can't remember the name). Neither sandwich was pressed or had cheese. Both the spinach and leek soup were extremely salty. Portion sizes are extremely small, or at least american portions. One of my coworkers lunches had three shrimp and the meal was $13. Basically it seem like they were trying way too hard to make things creative when a simple Italian dish would have been much more appealing. Overall, everyone was very disappointed. Sadly, we would have given them a large amount of business considering we are next door and order lunch at The Knick consistently.

Absolutely delicious! I order the pumpkin squash ravioli with chicken. The serving size was just enough to fill me up with no leftovers. The price was higher than I expected for the serving size. But at least I enjoyed it. My friends also enjoyed their meals. I will be back for sure.

Excellent food, good selection of moderately priced wines. Service is friendly without being overbearing. The place is very busy- bustling on Saturday nights-yet the service and the food are consistently good-to-great. You will not be disappointed!

This is an outstanding value. You will not find this level of quality at this price in Chicago, that's for sure. The standout appetizer we had was the Antipastio Misto. I had a gnocchi dish which featured both duck and rabbit. I told the chef he can call it Elmer Season, and I won't charge for the idea. Absolutely amazing and creative dish. My wife had a very inspired dish, Pollo Agrodolce, that seemed like an Italian interpretation of Asian cuisine. Dinner for three, which was two appetizers, a bottle of wine, and three entrees, only set us back $100 before tip.

Another 4.5 here. We went for a special occasion--the food was superb, the service was quite good, and there was even a random appearance of a bloke singing arias...I kid you not. Not perfect, but still, so very glad to have more indie local restaurants (yes, I know there's another Il Mito in the area, but it's still indie) surviving in Wauwatosa. It needs more of the same.

If there was 4.5 stars, I'd give it to Il Mito. I thoroughly enjoyed it and my experience. Its decently priced (probably around the mid-20's dish wise) and the wine selection is one of the better ones in Milwaukee. I don't remember what I got, but my GF got the seafood pasta/linguini and it was delicious. Actual seafood!!! Rare in Milwaukee!!! We also got the tiramisu (yes how original right?) and that was delicious as well. Like someone said, make sure to make reservations (especially if you're going to be going on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. The ambiance is cozy. If anyone is a fan of the Godfather movies, I dare make this analogy...if the Godfather was going to eat at an Italian joint, Il Mito would make for the perfect scene. No, its not Italy, but what is right? Having lived in LA, Chicago, and Boston (and been to NY many times), I've feel I have a good sense of what big cities have to offer. While Il Mito might blend into the background in any other city, but in Milwaukee, it's probably doesn't get MUCH better.

  • Joseph L.

Il Mito has fast become my favorite restaurant. The ambiance is that of a trendy yet casual neighborhood Italian joint. The food has been superb on every occasion. The wine list is not exhaustive but holds many gems. The service has been of the highest level. The wait staff soon learn your name and favorites. I rarely have to ask for anything. Michael Feker, the owner, is always excited to see you and quick with a joke or story. A storied regular, Angelo, stops in frequently to favor the crowd with an operatic solo or two. The workspace/classroom next door is an intimate space that is used frequently for parties but also serves as a stage for Michael to share his culinary expertise with small groups in class form. He makes you comfortable in his tutelage, questions are always welcomed. A nicer guy you will not find in the restaurant business. In short, I recommend Il Mito without reservation....but not without reservations. Although they can sometimes slip you in. :-)

This is a cute little place, I heard good things about it from an Italian friend and was excited to try it. I went with a group of girlfriends and we had mixed reviews. I personally loved what I ordered, it was the Pumpkin Ravoli. It was really good with a nice sauce. My friend next to me was not so lucky. She ordered a chicken/mushroom tortellini which she said tasted gritty? It was not edible. The other girls got simple pasta dishes and a salad which was fine, no problems. Then there was the issue of service. Everything was fine at first but I was being a nice wife and ordered a pizza to go for my husband and my friend with the bad tortollini ordered the chocolate cake. We waited so long... Something happened with the cake and pizza that was taking forever. They did apologize and gave us the cake/pizza but it was quite the hold up. The pizza was ok, my husband liked it but the cake looked sad and flat. My friend didn't even try that, she just tossed it out since she was scared after the meal. And she actually did go to their other location before and really liked it. Also, the martinis we ordered at the table were terrible... not mixed right or something. I didn't realize that you could make them that bad. Again, one of the girls in our group was a bartender so she'd know!

I absolutely love the food here. Gnocci is great, pastas are too. One thing I do like is the menu changes a couple times per year. I would have given a 5 star, but the one reason I didn't is the tables are way too close to each other. This is one reason we don't come here that much.

My boyfriend and I went for a belated Valentine's dinner last night. Il Mito was recommended to us so we had high hopes. The street parking was a turn off, immediately forgot about that as soon as we walked in. The atmosphere was amazing. I love the warm cozy feeling the small restaurant gives off. I thought it was great seeing Chef Feker in his cooking school through the glass of the private kitchen. Our server was very friendly, and spoke candidly about his favorite options on the menu. Our entire meal was amazing. When it came to the dessert however, I was a little disappointed. Our creme brulee was torched too long and the sugar was nearly black. Overall, a great place to have a nice cozy dinner. We will be back. Maybe tiramisu next time?

Went here for dinner and was very impressed. Very aromatic, complex, and creative dishes. Portions are "normal", i.e. not Applebee's style giganto servings. Very attentive waitstaff, they always had empty dishes cleared and forks replaced. This place definitely warrants Milwaukee's attention.

We went for dinner on a recent Saturday night and had no issue getting a table (though it was fairly early) at the last minute. We thought the food was just ok, not great. Nothing really even stands out in my mind about the meal except the fact that we asked that the onion rings be put on a plate separate from the calamari because I have a shellfish allergy (the oil they are both fried in has never bothered me). The sauce served with the calamari/onion rings was served on the plate with the onion rings....and has some sort of shellfish in it. I dipped into it a few times before my husband realized what was in it. We barely got an apology on what could have been a trip to the emergency room for me. Overall it was fine, but we won't be rushing back.

It had been far too long since I had caught up with my gay boyfriend (a.k.a. GBF), and an outing was in order. We both have the same disorder--we hate picking the place--and so we went with Il Mito since it was recommended by a co-worker and it fit the bill of being in the Tosa area. The first thing we loved about Il Mito was that just three hours before our outing we were able to make reservations online. Parking was an issue--a big issue--but this is due in part to the blizzaster we had just experienced two days prior. We were seated immediately upon arrival and were offered a choice of tables. The crowd was lively and refreshingly diverse for a Tosa establishment. We shared an amazing appetizer of stuffed portobello mushrooms and a Caesar salad. GBF had the risotto, which he loved; I had the linguine with clams and tiger shrimp, which was delicious but certainly had a kick to it. Our waiter was a little discombobulated, but he later referenced that he was new to the scene. He made up for it with charm, earnest effort, and, according to GBF, a really nice butt. This is a great intimate setting with something to please every palate. Check it out!

One of my favorite restaurants. I have never been disappointed by this place. The food is wonderful and the service is great. I also love the decor. The prices are so reasonable I am always amazed when the bill comes. My favorite's: Butternut Squash Ravioli - Large tender ravioli's stuffed with squash and served in a creamy sauce with pine nuts. The flavors all go together so well. Cheese Platter - Wonderful fresh selection of cheeses and they come with candied nuts that are just heavenly! Insalata D'Angelo - The dressing is perfect with the lamb and the spinach is always fresh. The bar has a wide variety of wine as well as a ton of fun "specialty" drinks. Finding street parking at times can be a challange but nothing compared to downtown.

We had a wonderful family dinner here. Great food and great service. There were 4 of use (2 teens and 2 adults) and we each had something different. We loved the $29 special--starter, entree and desert--per person. It gave us a chance to try 9 different items without breaking the bank (son went for the pizza as always). Everything was great. My stuffed pork chop was tops. Midway through the meal the entire restaurant was treated to a song by a gentleman introduced as a friend of the chef. I am not usually into having my meal interrupted by a song, but in this case it was short and sweet and seemed impromptu. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Most of all I appreciated the way the staff worked together taking care of tables. It was a busy night. Our waitress got hung up at times and other staff members delivered food and/or checked on us.

Had lunch at IL MITO today. It was delicious. Grilled salmon salad and asparagus soup. Everything is so fresh and our waiter was attentive and friendly. My friend had the pumpkin ravioli, amazing! It's seasonal so try it while you can. Great value as their are lunch specials from about $6 and up. I like the cooking school and will take a class or do one of their wine dinners there soon. Can't wait for Summer so I can walk to this little neighborhood spot.

I really like this place. Since moving out to California 7 years ago, I've managed to become a bit of a food snob, and this place doesn't disappoint. I've eaten here a few times over the last couple years, and each time the selections have been fresh, interesting, and satisfying. This isn't your standard chain, and while the prices are going to be a bit more, the food quality and preparation makes it worth it. Definitely make reservations. The wait-staff know their ingredients and their wines -- the pairings I've had have been great, too. I'll definitely be back!

Good food. Good Service. Great Experience. Chef Fekker was in the dining room almost the entire time we were there. On the one hand, i thought it was neat that he stopped by our table to see how we were doing. That said, I felt like in the context of the cooking school, the website, and the vibe at the restaurant - Fekker was trying to will himself into being a Celebrity Chef - which was a little weird. The food was mostly quite good. We ordered two pastas and two main courses - fish and lamb osso bucco. The pastas were very good - we had a pumpkin ravioli and gnocchi with meat sauce. Both were rich - with clean flavors. The polenta that came with my wife's fish was great. I wasn't crazy about the eggplant polenta that came with my osso bucco. Service was good. The server was friendly, avaiable and seemed to be pretty knowledgable about the menu and food. We'll be back.

Had a very pleasant experience at Il Mito. There were four of us and all enjoyed our meals - though I felt it was a bit pricey for what you got. The pumpkin ravioli was delicious but wasn't much there. I got the penne pasta which was good but not as good as I had hoped. I think my expectations were high because I live where we have over 5 amazing Italian restaurants that are four or five star quality. Il Mito came close - but not quite. Our service was just okay - but they were busy and it was Saturday night. My cosmo martini wasn't made well - looks like I'm not the first reviewer to experience that either. I'd definitely try Il Mito again but it wouldn't be my favorite restaurant.

Apparently this is the second location for a local chain. It's built in the middle of one of the North Ave. blocks of businesses, so parking is a pain, but they've done an outstanding job with the atmosphere--they even have a few small tables out in front, so you're sitting by the sidewalk, European style. Their food selection is quite impressive, and perfectly prepared and presented, and if you're looking for wines and other alcoholic beverages, they have a separate booklet with a huge selection. In fact, they even have a bar where you can enjoy those without having to eat anything. The waiter the night we were there was very personable and worked hard to make sure we were happy with everything we had ordered--even made good recommendations. The main drawback... the parking situation. Down and across the street, there is a small lot, but don't count on finding someplace close.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
