The word I would use is unremarkable. My husband has coerced me to go to Cuco's three times now and every time has been just ok. Not good, not bad, just...meh. I would never choose to go back on my own that's for sure. I have had chicken enchiladas, shrimp "cocktail" and some burrito. All were mediocre. My husband gets the burrito cucos and loves it. My 2 year old son loves the chicken enchiladas and refried beans...then again he eats crayons so you might not want to trust his palette lol! If you are looking for passable Mexican food you'll be happy. If you're looking for more, perhaps you should pass on Cuco's.

Well, I diverted from the main highway specifically to go to this restaurant because YELP states they were open until 10:30 PM. We roll into the parking lot, and the stickers on the door say Fri-Sat: 11am-10: 0pm. The beer and open signs are off, but the door is unlocked and we can see some people dining inside. The hostess gave a strange look, so we asked if they were open, and we were informed they were not. This happened at 9:40pm. So... Apparently... 10: 0pm is not to be interpreted as 10:30pm... But as 9 o'whateverwefeellike.

So I'm writing this In real time while having lunch here for the first time. Some neighbors recommended it and if you've ever been to Waunakee you know that pickings are slim when it comes to restaurants. So you walk in and are greeted to a very clean and friendly Mexican style restaurant. I was seated immediately and had chips and salsa all within about a minute. The chips are warm and the salsa cold and fresh. You can see and taste the fresh cilantro. The server comes over and asks me what I would like to drink and hands me a fairly large menu, he then points out the lunch menu on the back saving me from studying the menu. A couple minutes later my sprite arrives, again in a very nice clean glass. Soda to syrup mix is good. I decide to have the lunch steak fajitas as I continue to much down the chips... Lunch comes pretty quick I've taken a pic of the plate... Everything was the right temp and the food was flavorful. The rice was firm, the refried beans are made with a nice consistency. The veggies and meat had a nice char and spice. All in all a good meal, now the real test will come when I bring the wife and kids!

Used to be great. Another reviewer mentioned a change in ownership, that explains everything. Cuco's was great but earlier this year it really went downhill. Prices went up and service got poor. I used to go there once a week or so but have almost completely stopped going because it's just not enjoyable anymore.

Delicious food! Pretty affordable and nice staff. Only negative is they charge extra for things like sour cream....

Tried not to honor 3.5 month old gift certificate due to change in ownership. BS... you honor the gift certificate regardless of who owned the place when the GC was purchased. Only eventually took it because we made a scene and we're not scene making type people. The manager/owner also put the tip cash in the register. Unfortunate that they have the opportunity to operate a business in this wonderful country and they try to screw its people.

Passable Mexican food. I've only ordered carry-out food from this restaurant. Family ate the tamales, beef enchiladas, enchiladas suizas, and burrito Cuco's. Carry out comes with chips, salsa. Not all entrees come with the standard rice and beans, so it pays to ask, rather than be disappointed. Uninspired vegetarian options on the menu, but no vegan options. Pass up the cheese enchilada, which is just melted cheese in a tortilla. Bean burrito is just beans in a tortilla, no onions, etc. Carry-out orders have an additional 25¢ fee per item. Nice to have a Mexican restaurant in town, but it's nothing *special,* which is too bad. Of course, it gives me more local take-out food options, so I'll be back. If I want a night out, though, I'll drive to Madison, Middleton.

What a great surprise in Waunakee! Authentic food with a broad menu of choices. The chips are always fresh as is the salsa. Try the molcahete for a great combination of meats, cactus, green onion and avocado in a hot lava parillada style dish. One order is enough for two people, just order some extra tortillas. If you want something simpler get the grilled chicken tacos a la carte. Great little pieces of juicy grilled chicken in two tortillas. I have been to at least ten different Mexican restaurants in the Madison area and this one tops them all.

Good typical Mexican food. Good taste good service very clean. For a storefront restaurant in a small town it is better Mexican than you would expect.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
