always make a point to visit this gem anytime i am back in Waukesha--sometimes even at the expense of catching up w/the friends and family who are the reason for the trip home in the first place! they have millions of gelato and sorbetto flavors, are right next to an awesome riverwalk, and leave you feeling great for supporting local businesses if you are into that kind of do-gooding (plus discount liquor is right around the corner~) can't say i have ever tasted any of their coffees or foodstuffs b/c my body would rather its week's calories come from gelato, but what i have had is better than at any other gelateria i've tried in the US, Germany or Spain. [i admittedly have not been to Italy yet, though i've sampled enough from Italian-American purveyors to feel Divino could hold their own.] i only wish their spoons were biodegradable or could be washed & re-used somehow since i usually go through 3 or 4 per trip trying out new flavors, but i am learning to live with the guilt ^_^

Loved Divino Gelato 1.0 way back about 10 years ago. Divino Gelato 2.0 is a love hate relationship unfortunately now. As mention in my first review second owners. Recipe changed, atmosphere not as warm and inviting and prices up/portions down type management. Plus the owners are focused on 3 other shops and it shows. This original store was a place we could go all year round and our kids love it. Unfortunately this store was closed most of winter. The Brookfield Square store is open though. I guess the patrons and original store served its purpose. Waukesha patrons are captive audience in a way and no where else to go for gelato unless you go to the mall. It's too bad because downtown Waukesha needs good businesses and this was wonderful as all the newspaper articles suggest that are posted throughout the store.... Back during Divino Gelato 1.0.

I've been here a few times, but hadn't written a reveiw. There prices are a bit high, but they do overfill your dish by about x2. There service on this day was bad-the server dropped some icecream in a different flavor twice, had an angry and annoyed look on her face that put a damper on my mood. My friend loved her apple crumble flavor, my other friend enjoyed mint and I was delighted by the strawberry flavor considering I am not a fan. I would check it out and hope you don't get the same uninviting service.

Up there with Cold Spoons gelato. On the strength of one visit to each: DG: larger helpings, but one flavor for a small serving CS: wider and more inventive range of flavors. Gelato in better condition as regards temperature, texture. Both are far better than La Coppa in Bayshore, which is hardly gelato at all.

Love love love the cake batter gelato and chocolate! Little on the pricy side but it's worth at least giving it a try

This place knows it gelato. They always have so many unique flavors and if you order a medium size you can mix two scoops. My fave is to mix a fruit and a nut, like pistachio and mango or almond and raspberry. What some people don't know is that Divino Gelato also serves grinders, personal pizzas and beverages. I enjoy the different grinders and the toasting of the bread to just crunch with a soft middle is perfect. I haven't tried the pizzas and I'm not a coffee fan but I see people walking out with drinks all the time. I tried their Pomegranate Lemonade infused with herbs and it was so refreshing and rosemary has great health benefits for us.

Not just for gelato. Their Italian Beef sandwich is outstanding. I shared one with my husband recently for the first time. Big mistake, we both wanted our very own after one bite. Nice place to just sit and relax a bit.

OK, you'll have to forgive my first review for this place, I wrote it way back when I started with Yelp and then left... for a long time... But now I'm back on Yelp, having a lot more fun and I know I needed to give this one an update after returning back to it for the first time in years after I went fairly often in the past. Since I have been here I was able to try Paciugo Gelato & Caffè at Mayfair. In my review for Paciugo I said I'd probably prefer Divino over it, but now I am not so sure. Not that either place is bad, they are actually both really good and close enough that you can't really go wrong at either location. The gealto is very close to each other at these places, which means they are both pretty excellent. The only real difference you are going to find is in the flavors. If you go to Divino's website you're going to see so many flavors you might catch a brain freeze right through the computer screen. I've worked my way through at least 20 flavors if I had to guess and I've never once been disappointed. The only real area Divino "falls short" when compared to Paciugo is that you can only get 3 flavors in the large cup vs. 5 flavors at Paciugo. That's not a big deal really, but more is always better. To counterbalance that Divino has a "Grande" size which is about $1 more then Paciguo's largest size but honesty felt like it had quite a bit more volume. On this trip to Divino I went with Orange Dream, Sour Cherry and the most awesome (AWESOME!!) Camel Candy Apple Sucker flavor. That last flavor was full of win for me, it made the whole trip to downtown Waukesha worth it. It tasted really strong and just like those suckers it was flavored after. All in all, Divino was as good as I remembered, I just can't say it's leaps and bounds better then my only other Milwaukee gelato experience. I will be back to both places and hopefully often. There is one thing you can't question when it comes to gelato and that is the flavor you get in gealto just murders anything you'd get our of ice cream or custard. I missed you Divino, but do not worry, I will be back!

As someone who is a fan of frozen custard, and in particular Kopp's, I must admit that this place generally beats frozen custard hands down with their authentic Gelato. I know we're comparing apples and oranges here a bit, but the sheer taste and consistency makes for a strong case to give Divino the nod.

This place has the best gelato I've tasted this side of the Atlantic Ocean. There are tons of flavors to choose from. The place itself is tiny, but it's quaint and cute. Can't wait to go back this summer. :)

I drove all the way from Milwaukee to Waukesha just to visit this place for the first time with my best friend, and it was the best Café experience I've ever had. The surrounding area is absolutely fabulous as well, after Divino we went to an antique shop just down the street and a coffee shop. Great place, great area 5 stars.

A great place to stop for a treat. They have many, many flavors of gelato, and they will let you have a taste of whatever you want before you choose. You can also mix and match flavors. I always try to stop here when I'm downtown, even though parking can be a hassle!

Now this is just the cutest shop! The gelato's are super yummy, I get 2 different flavors every time I go in and they are always just as tasty. If you go here try going around holidays because then they have cute flavors that you only see during a certain time. Those are my favorites. It's got lovely outdoor seating to enjoy the rest of waukesha.

Customer Testimonials: *All originals on file at Divino Gelato at 227 West Main, Waukesha I have had a taste for Gelato ever since a good friend was talking about it after they tried it in Las Vegas. My friend set out to find a place for me in the Milwaukee area. After a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant, we came to Divino Gelato Caf to find the most helpful servers and friendly owners. I will be back to sample even more. -- Laura - Bayview, WI Every time I come to Divino, which is at least three times per month, I get one scoop of mint chocolate and also try something new. I never eat custard or regular ice cream anymore; instead I come for Gelato when I want a treat. The flavors at Divino are unlike any you will find in the world. -- Justin - Shorewood, WI I enjoy Divino Gelato Caf, as it is rich in the European culture. The dcor, the music, special flavors of the Italian ice cream, create a sophisticated eating experience - right here in downtown Waukesha. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to expand their experiences. -- Mary Lynn - Big Bend, WI Nothing tastes like Divino Gelato! We journeyed to New York City's "Little Italy" and tested their Gelato only to find that theirs did not even come close to the Gelato right here in Waukesha. Bruce and Carol - Waukesha, WI As a native Italian, I have tried many different ice creams and I have found that Divino Gelato Caf has the best Gelato in the United States. I enjoy it because they offer the atmosphere that is a great place for people of all ages. So if you find yourself on Main Street in Waukesha, stop into Divino Gelato and enjoy a healthy Italian treat that will satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. GUSTATEVELO ! -- Lorenzo - Milano, Italy

Great gelato, wonderful selection. As good as any we've had in Italy. Generous portions.

Almost unbelievable that something so good can have so much less calories and fat than ice cream or custard and taste much better! Lots of flavors, including some fruit based that have less than 1% fat I believe, and are equally amazing! Also a very friendly and courteous staff. You should definitely check it out next time you're downtown!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
