We went last night based on these other reviews and were very happy with everything! Yes, it's kind of a dive being located at the back of a Mexican grocery store but it was well worth it - and the prices were unbelievably cheap!! Will will definitely being going back or doing some take-out.

Since the summer of 2014, there has been new mangers and the place has met my expectations, of what an authentic mexican restaurant is supposed to be, every time I dine in. If you haven't tried going since the summer, you definitely need to go back!

Made the short trip to Walworth from Lake Geneva. The restaurant is located in the back of a Supermercado in a S. Beloit St. strip mall. Very clean and spacious. There were only a few other customers on a quiet Thursday evening. We were helped immediately by a friendly server who brought chips and a fantastic Guac Salsa. My son ordered a burrito with AL Pastor and I ordered 4 tacos. 2 chicken and 2 AL Pastor. We both enjoyed our meals very much. My son's burrito was a little unusual in that it had lettuce and tomato. So, order without if you are not into that. The price was very inexpensive and we even bought some of the Guac Salsa to go. The service was great. We will definitely go back again as it is a short motorbike ride from home.

This is from my visit in 2011 having recently relocated back then to the area I was on the hunt for some GOOD Mexican food since I am spoiled rotten raised in Chicago. I ordered a burrito and some steak tacos from here but we weren't very impressed the meat tasted it like it had been out a while and not to mention the tacos were somewhat greasy. Our order was takeout but just waiting in the dining area I saw how dirty and messy it was. Since I see a lot of positive reviews on here I might have to give this place another try during the day instead of when they are getting ready to close to see if my review changes but for now there is a better Mexican restaurant just up the road in Delavan called Los Agaves.

Best Mexican food in Lake Geneva area but definitely a dive location. If you want fancy this isn't the place for you. But if you want great authentic Mexican food at a great price then this is the place to go.

My daughter and I tried this restaurant on my birthday due to a great review we read. I don't know if they were having a bad day or what happened. We were not served salsa with our chips. We had 2 sauces (the red and green typically put on tacos) in squeeze bottles. The chips had a good flavor but extremely salty. The tortillas were cracked and ripped which means they were not even close to fresh. My meal was extremely messy due to the tortillas falling apart and ripping. I had a Bistek ala Mexicana that stated in the menu came in a Ranchero sauce. There was very little watery (to the point it was almost clear) sauce on the plate. I wasn't too upset because the sauces in the squeeze bottles had very good flavors. The rice was standard and the beans were good. Though again...wayyy oversalted. My daugther had a steak taco dinner which she said again, way too much salt. She said that it was pretty much the only thing she tasted. So the food, far from excellent (and I know my Mexican food well), it was decent for a small town. Don't get me wrong, if I lived in Walworth, I would order to go from there. Never again dine in. It was absolutely bone chilling freezing and very dirty. My daughter went to use the restroom and they not only didn't have a handle to flush the toilet. The tank lid was absent and there was NO HAND SOAP. Thank goodness we were done eating. Just made me worry about the workers if the bathroom didn't have soap. They had a TV blaring quite loudly as well. I'm thinking the cook in the kitchen was watching it. Didn't make for a very good atmosphere for having a conversation. I must mention 2 positives: 1. The waitress was a sweetheart and took care of us to the best of her ability I think. It definitely wasn't the great service but we got what we needed and she was very sweet. 2. The prices were very good. So 1-5: Food and service: 3 Atmosphere: 1 (lower if I could) Prices: 5

A new favorite for the area. Delicious, authentic Mexican food in a clean, no-frills restaurant behind a grocery store. Our tacos were freshly prepared and served piping hot. We enjoyed the chips and pico de gallo served with them, too. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Awesome affordable authentic Mexican! I've never had a meal that I didn't like there. They serve large portions for great prices along with free homemade chips and salsa. If you are looking for a quick bite to sit in or carry out, I'd definitely recommend this place.

My family and I live in Mexico as Independent Christian Missionaries. My wife and I grew up in the Delavan area. This restaurant IS THE REAL DEAL. We come back to the area once a year to visit family and share with people about our ministry in mexico and we get "home sick" and are always looking for some great Mexican food. Well, this is our new favorite place. The food is as authentic as you can get. And the prices are GREAT! I get tired of seeing ridiculous prices at other "Mexican restaurants". And the waitstaff was great too (it was so great to converse in Spanish). Not only is the restaurant great, but the grocery store is AWESOME!! If only the local store in our village in Mexico was as good as this one. I cannot say enough good things about La Mexicana.

Driving ORD-Madison and getting tired of the flat monotony and the tolls on I-90, detoured north through Huntley/Woodstock/Harvard, and wound up here for the second time, and now I think it is moth-to-flame territory. Really nice server took the order, while conscientiously balancing take-outs and the lunch eat-ins. The $6.50 take-out steak fajita burrito was immense. At first I was put off by the rice (which I usually think of as filler, particularly at Qdoba & Chipotle where it is an empty curse) but there was SO much smoky/grilled steak, a great balance of veggie including huge chunks of yellow pepper and onion - - and the rice itself was sublimely flavored - - luscious! All the flavors blended so perfectly - - I can't remember a burrito this totally richly flavorful. Ate it in the car, with a spork, while driving, which was a challenge, but a worthy one, and didn't even eat the tortilla (stretchy rubbery bland container that it often is with burritos) - - just the amazing stuffing, which was already way too much food. My new interstate mantra: Walworth; Walworth; Walworth.

I have yet to order something which did not knock my socks off. Knocked'em right off with my shoes on and everything. Now, I go in flip-flops. If your in the mood for something sweet, order the banana enchiladas con mole sauce, WOW. The guacamole is made to order with all fresh ingredients, another WOW. The pork burritos have a little pineapple in the filling mix, double WOW with a side of POW. You can buy the burrito filling here in the supermercado. Anyway, you won't find anything comparing in quality, value or satisfaction for many miles around. You must go!

Authentic Mexican food in Walworth. What a relief after 48 hours of nothing but pizza, burgers and fries. We came just before close, so they wouldn't make us guacamole, but they gave us fresh, delicious pico and the jalapeno salsa was excellent. Giant burritos, even the "small" size.

Have returned multiple times. Great food, extravagant amounts of food - always enough for another meal and very low prices. Fresh, authentic and exceptional ingredients and servers. Gabby is the best - she even tolerates my 4th grade level Spanish. Attentive and caring about her customers. The flank steak with shrimp was presented as though it were a 5 star restaurant. Grilled onions and jalapenos with rice, beans and a small salad. The guacamole is prepared to order with nice crunchy jalapenos, red onions and lots of cilantro. They serve three salsas with fresh homemade chips the instant you sit down. It doesn't get better than you can get here - with one exception - it is still freezing in the place. They would get 6 stars if they could just warm it up a little

Hidden Mexican restaurant behind the Mexican grocery store on the square in Walworth. This is as authentic as it comes! It is fresh (the guacamole is awesome), it is fun and it is cheap! The huge burrito is only $4!! The funny thing is that every time we go we are charged a different price but in the long run it all evens out!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
