Cheese curds and a beer. They should rename the place, "Heaven".

This was a great place to eat. We had the Friday fish fry which consisted of all you can eat Cod, choice of potato, excellent coleslaw, and fresh homemade buns from a local bakery. The service was friendly and quick. It was a typical supper club with above average food and service.

Went for Friday night fish fry. Had to wait 50 min for table but well worth it. Cheese curds amazing. Coleslaw was awesome. Fish was pretty good. Will go back.

As a former corporate trainer I have learned to both see and ignore service issues. I can't help but see them, but I am happily able to ignore them enough that I can go out and have a good time. In this case I not only couldn't ignore them, but need to draw attention. The two of us were in the mood for onion rings and a beer or two and stopped in. We could have been persuaded to have dinner. The bartender ignored us as we walked in, despite our marveling at the lovely oval bar. 1. Always acknowledge new guests and welcome them within 30 seconds; Fail. We sat down at the bar and smiled, waiting to be greeted. Bartender counted money, glancing at us as if we were uniformed Nazi soldiers. (See step 1, above: Fail.) Bartender came over after several minutes and muttered, "You want something?" Not kidding. 2. Suggestively sell drinks and menu items; Fail. We asked about available beers. Bartender now recited some of the beer lineup, much like explaining details to an IRS agent. Not rude, but obligatory. We ordered a pair of beers. We asked for menus, and the bartender walked away saying nothing, came back and slid them in front of us, and walked away. We looked at each other, almost laughing at how awful that was. We ordered and bartender walked away, saying nothing. We sat, kind of stunned at how we were an uninvited speed bump in the way. 3. Repeat order to guest to ensure accuracy; suggestively sell other items and accompaniments; Fail. No onion rings on the menu; we had curds. They arrived and were placed in front of us and bartender walked way, silently. Meanwhile a second bartender arrived. We were thinking that now someone might talk to us and make us feel like we mattered in a positive way. We were wrong. The two of them seemed to scowl at each other (or with each other...?) and neither of them stopped by to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. 4. Check back within 3 minutes to ensure satisfaction or needs; Fail. We watched and listened as the bartenders continued their sullen task of ignoring us. One was loudly and angrily complaining about something. That makes you feel comfy and welcomed.... no, wait. It doesn't. All of the above behaviors were perfectly suited for a training video demonstrating what not to do. It doesn't take training, however, to know that simply smiling and treating customers as potential sales-generators is a better path to take. We are up and down Hwy 35 a lot. We like to spend money, and we tip well; generally 30%. More if people are genuinely interested in our experience quality. We are actually pretty low-maintenance. We just like to enjoy ourselves when we spend our money. Maybe Rocky's doesn't need to invest in efforts that increase employees' awareness of how they are perceived; maybe sales will just come to them because of their history and location. Maybe they just don't care. But I now have another great example to use in training how not to be.

I have to start this review by saying that I really, really wanted to like Rocky's. I had heard about it for years. My daughter and I had the choice between a local supper club with a beautiful location on the river, and Rocky's. We chose Rocky's because we'd already eaten at the other club, and I've heard about Rocky's bleu fish and curds and wanted to try something new. When we walked in, we were not greeted by anyone. The bartender ignored us, even though he had made eye contact and could easily have smiled and said, "The dining room is this way" with a wave of his hand. No such luck. We wandered through the bar area, found the small dining room and were seated by a friendly young guy who was a little scruffy looking but gave us a table overlooking the beautiful...main street and cars. (Location is not Rocky's strong suit.) Our waiter came over with a scowl and 2 menus, took our drink order while glancing over his shoulder at his other tables (he had 2 others, both of which had 4 people who had already ordered), did not ask if we'd like appetizers and left. When he brought our drinks back, I asked for cheese curds. Our waiter looked irritated that we'd ordered an app, but wrote it down and left. We went through the salad bar, which was very small and had no healthy choices other than plain vegetables. It was disappointing - everything was coated in thick mayo or oil, or blanketed in cheese. After we finished our salad bar selections, our cheese curds came. They were good, nothing special. I have had curds equal to or better at Nutbush or Drugan's. Shortly after, our entrees arrived, along with the Unsmiling Waiter. My Bleu Fish was not what I expected - instead of being broiled fish topped with bleu cheese, it was more of a poached fish swimming in a bleu cheese sauce. I had to wipe off much of the cheese sauce in order to eat it as it was so rich. More of a casserole, really. I had it with fries, and it was the smallest portion of fries I've ever received at a restaurant, about the size of a McDonald's kids meal portion. My daughter had the rib special. The ribs were very tender, but the sauce tasted like tomato soup, not BBQ sauce. She also had a Bloody Mary, her favorite drink. She keeps tabs on where to find the best Bloody Mary, and she said that this one was possibly the worst Bloody she's ever had. It had no spices and had an off flavor. The waiter returned after we were finished eating and asked us how everything was, which is very poor timing. All in all, I would really like to try Rocky's again, but I would like these changes made: 1. Make the customer feel welcome! Greet them when they walk in and SMILE! 2. Please offer things on the menu. For those of us who have never eaten there, we like the suggestions that staff make. 3. Don't make us feel as if we are in the way. After all, without us, you wouldn't have a business. 4. Check on your tables a few bites in to their meal, not when they are pushing their plates away and are finished. 5. Make us want to return. As for this woman, after spending neartly $40, I don't wish to repeat the experience at Rocky's again. Also, if you expect a tip, it's a good habit to earn it way before you lay the bill on the table. That means be polite to your customers and pay attention to them BEFORE you give them your bill. I am a very generous tipper, usually 25%. And I did tip about 20% on this night, although it was against my better judgment, but I knew that this young waiter was probably a college kid who needed the money. Next time, I just hope he earns it.

The portions were generous. I would recommend this to anyone passing through. Staff was friendly and the service was satisfactory.
