This place is a roof over your head and that's about it. Front desk staff....surly and angry. I've never had someone treat me as a burden when I walked in. Barely got answers or input from the woman at the front she just wanted to throw card keys at me so she could get back to doing nothing. Pure attitude. In a town where a solid job is hard to find, I was shocked that the desk staff was so terrible at her job. The room was the second filthiest I've stayed in and I've stayed in a hostel in east Europe for 8 bucks a night. The carpets are less clean than a movie theatre in a struggling area. Also, dishonest billing staff. I stayed with a small dog (10 pounds) and well after I was out of the state there's over 100 bucks charged to my CC for an additional pet fee. Upon investigation the front desk woman said it was because my dog had destroyed a bed. This is a dog who cannot even chew a baby carrot with much success and she was never alone in the room during the entire stay. I guess someone just wanted and extra hundred off my back because I wasn't around to dispute it in person. Cowardly. Usually, I've had great experiences at BW but this places' management is the problem. AVOID this place and just go up the road to the next town.

what do you do when you pull a peyton manning* and decide to stay in the area to continue celebrating your friend's wedding weekend but every hotel in la crosse and onalaska is booked? why, grab the last room in sparta with an executive king bed, of course! not only did betsy come through for me in the clutch, but the room was both bigger AND cheaper than the room my companion and i stayed in at the hotel in onalaska (WITH the discounted wedding rate!) the room was clean, betsy was just as cheerful in person as she was over the phone, and the room accommodated all my needs, and then some. by that i mean..three tvs? towels on towels on towels? amurrica. i didn't really explore the grounds, but again, that's likely because i got exactly what i wanted:: a nice room with a comfortable bed to sleep in for the evening. if you're ever in the area and need a place to rest, give them a call and ask for betsy! -- *calling an audible, for those who might've been wondering.

A very upscale best western with soft towels, nice bedding and very clean. The pool is fun!!! Slides, kiddie pool, hot tub and murals painted on the walls. You can't beat the Midwestern welcome.

Their rooms are in good shape, elevators are big enough to accommodate a bike. Located near the trail. I would stay here again.

Good, but was better a few years prior. We stayed here probably 6-7 years ago while doing the Elroy Sparta Trail. At that time we were very impressed by the BW "Plus" amenities, the cleanliness and newness of the hotel. While it's still a nice property now, the management needs to get back on the program with keeping it at a high level. The rooms are okay, but just on the fringe of falling behind. Our room wasn't cleaned entirely on Saturday, our garbage (both full) were not emptied. We called down to the main desk and was told she was the only person on staff and couldn't leave the front desk- leave the garbage in the hallway and she'd get to it when she could. The front foyer needs a complete facelift-- get rid of the ripped chair you see as you walk in, clean the fingerprints off the windows (filthy the entire weekend), wash or replace the BW matt on the exterior as you walk in and sweep the foyer (the same debris was sitting on the floor the entire time we were there). The breakfast area is very large and plenty of room, but also well attended and as such the gal working the area was hustling the entire breakfast. The pool area is generous as well but needs more cleanliness on the tile and pool. Air temps were cooler than usual for hotels in the pool area and water temps could have been warmer. Brewski's is okay, we ate there 6 years ago. We went in there tonight and there was a few folks at the bar (a sports bar) but none of the TV's were on. What kind of bar doesn't turn on their TVs???? Long and short- the hotel is probably the best in Sparta and relatively clean/safe and with a pool/restaurant- the reason you are staying there. Unfortunately, I'm afraid cuts have been made and management doesn't want to keep it fresh and strong. Sad.

We wanted to enjoy a nice hot bath, so we booked the whirlpool suite with sleeper sofa. Had we not we would have been very disappointed in the bath tub in the bathroom which was small and not at all inviting. We did enjoy the whirlpool very much and it worked great. The mirror seam was disconnected in the center and the caulk around the tub was much need of repair. The sink and kitchen counter were not lit which made food / coffee prep difficult. The room was clean and laid out well with a comfortable bed, but all of the tables were very cheaply constructed and the chairs were stained. We awoke to a bugle from the military base which was fun. When we were preparing to depart 20 minutes before check out we received a rude call from a staff member wanting to know when housekeeping can clean or if we needed another night. The check in clerk did not greet us and stared at us blankly until we greeted her. The breakfast was exactly what you would expect and should have a second waffle maker to avoid the line we experienced. The hotel is smoke free, but if you have a window open the smoke from outside blows in the windows. On the bright side: you can open the windows. We ate at Ginny's in downtown Sparta for lunch and it was very good with eclectic decor, traditional american food, an organic espresso bar and delicious ice cream. There is a lovely yarn store across the street from it.

I have stayed here several times because it has a bar and grill which was nice so I didn't have to drive once I got there. Rooms are nice and clean and will stay again.
