Go here if you like deep fried food and have cash. They do not take cards.Menu is very limited and service was slow inspite of it not being crowded. Also if u are vegetarian just turn around. Considering its beer country....the beer menu was just sad.

Good perch fish fry and the staff was very friendly. We also had a 4 year old child with us and found them to be good with kids. While the fish was great the rest of the food was unremarkable. I would have probably given them 4 stars, but the fact that they only take cash costs them a star.

This is a locals restaurant. It has very nice decor and a friendly staff, but god the food is greasy with a side of lard. My burger was a tiny piece of greasy undercooked meat on a huge bun that soaked up the grease. There was practically nothing else on the burger. The price is ok. If you are not up for a steak sandwich, dripping with butter, a bit flavorless, undercooked and some fries, then avoid this place.

Gosse is the best place to stumble upon after having spent all your money at the American Club. $3.55 gets you a pretty dang tasty cheeseburger that will fill you up! Ordered a side of seasoned fries which were tasty as well. Our server mentioned we needed to try the torte, we got one to go. We completely demolished it the minute we got home. I kicked myself for not ordering two. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood, don't forget your cash!

They have the best broasted chicken in Sheboygan and the creamy coleslaw is the one of the most flavorful around. It's cash only and staff is nice but not overly friendly.

We're denizens of the left coast, but native mid-westerners, and my husband had tasty memories of Sheboygan brats from his earlier days. Visiting in Wisconsin, we pulled off the freeway to drive into Sheboygan in order to find bratwurst, and were not a bit disappointed with Gosse's (recommended by a nearby liquor store where we made inquiries). Cool bar, busy restaurant -- sort of an American pub with a happy ambience and great food.

Carolyn and I stopped here for lunch a couple of days ago. There is a large bar with two adjacent dining rooms. The bar was deserted, except for one codger in a cowboy hat, but we opted to take a table there so we could examine the numerous photos and memorabilia on the walls, as well as clever/amusing signs. In a word, the ambiance is exactly what you're looking for in a place like this. Except, unlike a lot of these old Wisconsin bars, this one is bright and clean; everything lovingly maintained. We both ordered a bratwurst (with grilled onions and mustard) and shared the seasoned potato wedges. The brat was served on what they call "a hard roll." Actually, the bun is somewhat like a perfect french fry. Crispy on the outside and soft inside. The brat was grilled to perfection. Of course, that means that it was dripping. Possibly the best brat I've ever had, but let's get to the potato wedges. One order is plenty for two or three. I don't know how they get the batter to perfect adhere to each wedge ... they were divine. The waitress tried to talk us into a piece of homemade torte, but we could barely move already. Another time we'll order that first. ;) Service was friendly and on the mark. The guy behind the bar volunteered to serve as a history docent and told us all about the train operation across the street and about the area. We'll certainly be back. Note 1: They only accept cash. No cards or checks. Note 2: This is important: The last order they will accept is at 7 PM. Note 3: In contrast to what West O. posted, we spoke with four staff members and everyone was exceptionally friendly and attentive.

Try the steak burger. Seriously. Do it. The owner treated me with such kindness and hospitality that every time I drive past the restaurant I smile. We have a vacation home in Sheboygan and are slowly discovering all of its hidden treasures and this place is just another reason why I am falling in love with Wisconsin. Don't expect fancy tables or gourmet food. Expect really delicious, broasted chicken, seriously crave-able steak burgers, cheap beer, cheaper prices and good family service. Tips: They are not open at night. Bring cash. Family friendly.

During the last couple of visits to my in-laws, they've taken me Gosse's. It's a down-to-earth establishment with super-friendly hospitality. I gravitate towards the cheese steak on a hard roll bun. It comes buttered (you can ask for light or no butter) and is freakin satisfying. With some sweet potato fries and an ice-cold rootbeer, this meal would be a perfect cure for a hangover or just good ol' fashioned comfort food. My in-laws ordered some of their chicken which was good but a little on the salty side. Still, Gosse's is a must if you're visiting Sheboygan.

Things to know: 1. Cash only 2. This place is enough of a local institution that ownership has long since stopped going out of their way to be pleasant to anyone except their regulars 3. Cool trains and memorabilia 4. The seasoned potatoes are really good 5. My wife likes the steak sandwich

Classic Sheboygan done well. Dieters beware - this is not the place for you!!! You wont find heart healthy foods here, but really, are you looking for that in a burger joint/tavern? :) This place, undoubtedly, has the BEST broasted chicken anywhere in the county and I'd challenge anyone to find a better steak sandwich. Its very Sheboygan in the decor and menu, but also in its warmth from the owner and staff. Great bar area, great good, great staff and of course, great torte. An absolute gem in Sheboygan. Note: they dont take credit cards or checks but do have an ATM. Make sure you have cash or at least your debit card.

Oh man! I'd like to say I know a good bratwurst when I eat one. My family cooks them every time we get together. This might have been the best brat I've ever had. I had a blueberry torte for dessert also, which just happens to be my favorite dessert. Super cheap too (I might be used to CA prices though). I'm here for the weekend and this might be the only place I go for lunch and dinner.

NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. Gosse's in a Sheboygan landmark in my book. Awesome burgers, fish fry, broasted chicken, and all the sides. Casual service - to the point and friendly. Beware, they are cash only. Don't forget a homemade torte on your way out.

Stopped here on the way into town based on what i read here. I was going to have the cheese steak but once i found out i could have the fish dinner (for lunch) on a Thursday, perch it was. Unfortunately the perch was not that good. It was almost like a processed fish. Just a really hard consistency without much flavor. My wife had a burger which she said was great. Son had chicken tenders which were also good. The folks working there were extremely nice. And remember this is a cash only place. Took two tortes home and i heard that they were excellent. I will try this place again but maybe the cheese steak.

Best burgers in Wisconsin, can't be beat! I grew up near Sheboygan and live in Milwaukee--with that said, I love Kopp's. I love Mazo's. I love Oscar's. I love the burgers from a variety of other restaurants around too. But Gosse's is even better! Just enough butter, so delicious and served on a Sheboygan hard roll. Can't get those in Milwaukee! Their broasted chicken is also awesome and don't get me started on the tortes! I've tried nearly all of their whipped cream-based confections and they're the definition of a Wisconsin, Midwestern home dessert. Service is always efficient and the wait is usually short. Ask to blow the train whistle at the bar. A must stop in Sheboygan!

I only lived in Sheboygan for a year and I have been gone now for about two and a half years, but when I remember this small town between Milwaukee and Green Bay, I sure remember my fond memories of Gosse's steak sandwiches. I'm holding onto my love handles and have to accredit this fine establishment for helping out the cause. I ate here probably once every other week and only got the cheese steak sandwiches. I really can't speak to anything else on the menu, but if you go here, you don't really need to get anything else. The price seems almost too good to be true. The best sheboygan hard rolls I've had (which means they are the best rolls in the world!). They add ketchup, grilled onions, cheese and about a quarter stick of butter. Don't forget the napkins! This one drips with goodness all the way down your arm. It's located next to the train tracks with ample street parking. I usually ordered for pickup but did eat inside a couple of times. There is a small bar when you walk in and a pretty low key Wisconsin style diner seating area. Nothing too crazy going on here, but the food delicious! If you are in the Sheboygan area, this is the place to stop for lunch or dinner. The second best establishment is only half as good.

Great lunch at Gosses.. Well worth it.. Had broasted chicken with potatoes and coleslaw.. outstanding.. You must try the home made Torte for dessert!! The butterfinger Torte was awesome... can't wait to eat there again next time I am in Sheboygan.

Diddo on the last reviewer - the cheese steak sandwich is delicious! I also love the poppyseed torte. And of course the cheeseburgers are fantastic also. The "works" = ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions. And the sandwiches (i.e., burgers) wouldn't be what they are without the Sheboygan "hard rolls" that they are served on. Go to Gosse's - you won't regret it!

Worth the 1hour drive north from Milwaukee...worth the 4 hour flight from San Francisco...just loved this place! 30+min wait at 2pm on a Saturday was worth it..classic WI establishment--Budwiser neon sign, elk lodge feel, train depot stop for classic butter burgers, steak sandwich , fries, coleslaw, and onion rings...did I mention the cheese steak sandwich?--the best...worth every pound on the hips...perfectly toasted Sheboygan hard roll...not to be missed....and how can I forget...the cheese steak was $3.75!!!! amazing deal!!!...beer and bloody mary's were popular too....brings back good ole WI memories...

Yes this place is great!! Cheese steak sandwich, fries, and cheese curds are my staple here. I know they throw a ton of butter on the sandwich but the flavor is still very good. Server was attentive and the food came out nice and hot. Used around 6 napkins and we were on our way for under $20.
