If you've never tried a pasty then you should and you should try one here. Honestly, if you can't find one you like then there's something wrong with you. ;-) Buy them cooked and ready to eat. Eat them there or take them home. Or buy them frozen and bake them yourself. Light crusts packed with deliciousness! Five stars all the way!

This place was so delicious! I just wish that all of the options were available all the time. Can't go wrong with any pasty though!

If you've never had a pasty, you are missing out. They are REALLY good. I was a pasty virgin until we stopped here last year. We had the breakfast pasty, which was AMAZING! I usually don't like my breakfast foods all mixed up, but this was great! So you can eat there, or take it to go, or even buy them frozen to take home and bake. So after our fantastic breakfast we took a few different types of pastys home (they have so many different flavors, but the original is the best). They tasted just as good baked in my oven. Sadly, I am on a very strict food diet now, and haven't been able to return. But when I have a splurge day I will definitely be going back to Joe's Pasty Shop.

After all of the great reviews I was a bit disappointed. Between their web site and Google maps sending me in circles trying to find the place and the snippy attitude of the girl that answered the phone, my visit didn't start off great. Their address is on Randall about a block away and on the other side of the block from where the building is actually located. I am not from the area and would of appreciated slower and more clear directions. If someone is calling for directions, how hard is it to say "are you familiar with so and so street or where are you now." Instead she just rattled of go down this street and we're across the street from xyz which meant nothing to me. We finally arrived and since we had never been to Pasty's before we had lots of questions. The girl behind the counter (who I assume is Jessica, the owner) gave us some information about the menu and took our order. She mentioned that there was ketchup behind us and most people like ketchup on their Pasty. We were starving so sat down to eat and a bit later our friend arrived who had eaten at Pasty's before. He asked why we didn't have the gravy. Gravy? We didn't know anything about gravy we were only told about ketchup. Anyway....my suggestion would be for the person at the counter to take more time and explain the menu and most definitely suggest the gravy and not ketchup. Put a little more patience and care into new customers and leave the snippy attitude behind the counter. Just my opinion, from someone who has been in Customer Service all my life. I know a snippy, impatient attitude when I hear it. Visited August 2015

This is the best place to eat in town! It is worth driving five hours just for a pasty. I have never eaten a pasty until this trip to Rhinelander and I will never come to Rhinelander again without stopping here. I had the traditional, Cornish and Reuben pasties and all were great. The food is locally and organically/pasture-raised sourced and the owners' pride shines through with every interaction. Skip the fast food joints and some real food!

Amazing just like the UP! Moist and not dry like most. Friendly service and reasonable pricing.

They're huge, filling, and the pastry crust is perfectly done. An outstanding little place for lunch or dinner in Rhinelander!

Such a great place and super owners! They use all natural and organic whenever possible. I just like it because its so good, though! My personal fave is the Greek pastie which is made fresh on Friday.

A must have if in town, and a must have sent 2 u if u know anyone in town! These things are delicious and so many kinds to try:) my fav is the bacon cheeseburger, but there are so many good ones its hard 2 pick. There are a few tables to eat there but I always take them to go along with a few frozen ones for later:)

Pretty much every culture has their version of a meal in a pastry shell, and Joe's Pasty Shop in Rhinelander does it as well as anyone. After many times driving by the store we finally stopped and tried the Farmer's Market (tons of veggies and a whole wheat crust) and Cornish (beef, onion, potatoes, and rutabaga) pasties. These things are darn big and stuffed with great ingredients and flavors - much larger than your typical empanada while the dough is thinner and more delicate but somehow stays intact with all the stuffing inside. You can get them frozen but there always appear to be 3 or 4 that are "fresh" and are hot & ready to go so you can eat them onsite or easily take them home and they'll still be plenty hot inside an aluminum foil wrap. Joe's Pasty Shop will be a new staple for lunch when in Rhinelander for shopping or even just passing through. Unlike many Northwoods restaurants they don't just take something frozen out of a Sysco container and heat it up. These pasties are homemade by a serious staff using great local and often organic inredients including local grass-fed beef. Outstanding. P.S. My only complaint is that they're closed the week of Labor Day so now that I'm addicted I have to wait until next year for another one...

Since my husband is from the U.P., we always eat pasties when we're up for a visit. Since we stopped here by chance, this is our new favorite pasties! Farm to table ingredients and soooo delicious!

We were tipped off to this place by the nice woman in the organic food store. We certainly weren't looking for a pasty. I just wanted a good cup of coffee. She suggested the pasty shop which seemed weird but she said they had a great cup of coffee. She said the pasties were excellent so we couldn't pass up the opportunity. We had a chicken pasty and a more traditional pasty with beef and rutabaga. They were both flaky with a very tasty filling that was not over salted. The texture was fabulous and the the flavor was enhanced by dipping in Siracha sauce. A very nice porch to sit in with some good magazines. A great surprise. The coffee met my standards and was truly delicious. YUM!

Who would have thought to look for Cornish pasties in upper Wisconsin? However, let me say that since moving outside of my Welsh neighborhood, this was one of the best pasty I have eaten in the United States. Plus, you can get frozen pasties to go, which means that my car will literally be dragging back to Chicago.

This is the definition of "Comfort Food". There is nothing better than a few of Joe's Pastys in a o l fall day followed by a nice nap in the hammock. Be warned.... these will sit in your stomach like a rock (in a good way) and keep you warm all afternoon. They will also put you in a food coma.... eat, then nap.... don't operate heavy equipment. So good. So comforting. You would be a fool to pass this place by. Very limited seating.... but you are best off eating at home close to your favorite recliner anyways. Look..... Rhinelander lacks good food, especially fast food. Bypass McDonalds and all the chain burger places.... Go get some Joe's.
