Came here on a Friday in May. Got seated immediately, I'm sure it's a lot busier in summer. Great outdoor seating! The service was good. Food was delicious! I got the halibut which had tomatoes and asparagus with a tasty balsamic flavor. The fish fry was also good. Winner of the night was the grilled salad special. The grilled lettuce was super good! Definitely will go back!

I liked the ambiance, big and open, with a natural feel with all the wooden tables and chairs, but what was really cool was that each table was different. There were even nooks, with games and kid stuff, I wouldn't mind living in this restaurant. And I'd like to try the outdoor seating, right on the lake. I appreciated that all their tap beers were in-state, and had something the server called Germanica, but I can't find online. I had the BBQ ribs and they were pretty tasty, and the Kahlua Creme Brule for desert, also good. I sampled a few other deserts which I also liked. Service was fine, but being a resort town with seasonal businesses, it's probably hard to get servers who will be there all-year round and really know the place and it's food. But we came in unannounced with a very large group and they handled everything well. My vote for best overall space.

I ordered the chicken parm & it was horrible. Their homemade pasta wasn't al dente, it was raw. When I mentioned it to the server, her facial expression was one of understanding a repetitive concern. Since the rest of my party was finished eating, I asked if I could just get it to go. When it arrived, however, it was plain dry pasta. They could have put the marinara on it as the dish was meant to be eaten. Won't be ordering pasta again if I return!

I am a frequent diner at BPB, I have not been disappointed. We dined there last night. It was zero degrees outside. Inside was cozy and warm. The service was great. I had the Pork Schnitzel. It was, as usual, great. I have also had the Chicken Parm. Chicken is lightly breaded and flavorful. The pasta is home made. Excellent. The deserts are unbelievable. Some of the best I have ever had. Give this restaurant a try. You will not be disapointed!!

While the view of Elkhart Lake is wonderful the sirloin burger was ordinary and the salmon mediocre at best - in fact why place the salmon boring pre-packed 50-50 spring mix greens?

Service was about the worst I've ever experienced. Slow doesn't begin to describe it. Our meal took over two hours. We had opted to try Back Porch when we couldn't get into our first choice until 9:15pm. We should have stuck with our first choice and we actually would have been done earlier and had a better meal! Out of the five of us, only one thought their meal was outstanding (the tenderloin and mashed potatoes). The rest of us were disappointed. The Weinerschnitzel was pounded so thin all I could taste was the breading. The FIsh Fry was meh and arrived cold. We were offered free desserts because the kitchen ran out of soup??? They "made" more??? The free desserts were inedible except for the Kahlua Creme Brûlée which was tasty. Dinner for five was over $200. SO NOT WORTH IT. And there were drunken men in the ladies room...we won't be going back.

Went here for dinner on a recent Saturday night. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink. I decided to try something different and had a martini concoction which was just OK. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived. After a bit we got to choose our table and so we picked one by the windows. I ordered the pan fried walleye with potato pancakes. The walleye was delish however the potato pancakes were luke warm and very greasy.

We held a bridal shower at the Back Porch Bistro last weekend on a Saturday afternoon. Everything was perfect. Tara and staff were awesome to work with. The atmosphere was perfect for our event and guests and the bride-to-be enjoyed the event. The catered food was excellent!

Overlooking the waters of Elkhart Lake, the Back Porch Bistro offers diners an opportunity to enjoy locally sourced foods cooked in a traditional style. Housed in one of the out buildings of the 100+ year old Victorian Village Resort, this bistro is a nice place to meet up with friends to enjoy a good dinner or lunch. The menu changes seasonally, and the night we were there we sampled the beef (grown by local farmers) which was served with some mashed potatoes that had fresh corn mixed in as well as organic carrots. Simple, yet quite good. We also had the opportunity to taste several of the artisanal cheeses that are purported to have won several awards. Nothing better than fresh Wisconsin cheese! And the dessert? Peach cheesecake that was worth every calorie! The bar takes up one entire wall and while the decor can only be described as "kitchsy" (I guess you can even buy some of the stuff on the walls) it is a cozy place with the warmth of Wisconsin hospitality. And the best feature of the place? The namesake porch off the back that overlooks the lake. An absolutely wonderful view!

A group of 12 of us went here after a long day at the Road America Race Track. We sat on the patio...WOW what a beautiful view! Our server was very nice and knowledgeable about the food & gave great recommendations. The food came very fast for a big group. I had the Summer Berry Salad and it was great. The sweet potato fries were the BEST I've ever had! Very pleased! (This place seems to fill up fast so I highly recommend making a reservation.)

A very disappointing dining experience. I'll start with the good because it wasn't all bad: The Good: 1) The food was pretty tasty. Not stellar, but definitely better than your average chain place. About on a par with a really good Applebees. 2) The waittress was pleasant and did help us clean up a mess from one of our little ones, which was very accommodating. Here endeth the good. The Bad 1) This place is horrifically overpriced. $12 for what amounts to a small side-salad, and $18-20 for very small entrees. We're talking 4-6 oz of fish, served on a little plate. Not cool. Cool for a four star French bistro in the city maybe, not cool for a vacation resort. My wife had coffee and I had a ginger ale, my son had a hot dog and a toasted cheese sandwich, my wife got the small plate of Walleye, and I had the side-salad-sized salad with chicken. $57.00 with tip. You read that right. And we all left hungry, because the portions were painfully small. 2) Did I mention the portions were too small? They were. Very. Not cool. 3) Our initial drink order took 10+ minutes to arrive, (for a ginger ale and some coffee), and we were seated for a full hour before our meal came out. This is a Monday night and there were two other tables with customers at them in the entire place. We were in a party with several young children, which meant an agonizing wait for dinner. I gave it two stars because while it really was worse than just a "meh, I've had better", it wasn't quite a "why, God, why?" bad experience, but I did leave disappointed and a little upset at the quality of the experience versus the sharp expense. At half the price with twice as much food, it would have been a four or five star.

When we walked into the Back Porch Bistro, we were told there was a reservation coming in so they may not be able to seat us (5 of us). We asked how long the wait might be and they said 15-20 minutes. After about five minutes we were seated at the table where they said the reservation was going to be seated. I never saw another group come in after us. The menu was fairly limited and nothing was very appealing to me. Everything was sort of odd. My aunt and grandma had the saurbratten and they said the meat was dry and tough - not good at all. I had the pork chops and they were pretty good, although they were piled high with apples and who knows what else that I had to put aside on another plate. My sister-in-law had a ravioli dish that looked very good and my cousin had the chicken pot pie that also looked very good. Our server didn't seem to know what was going on for the most part. We asked a few questions and never really got good answers. When it was time to pay the bill we waited for quite a while for her to come back to get it. When my grandma complained that the sauerbratten was not cooked well, the waitress just sort of shrugged and said sorry. My only praise of this place is that the prices weren't bad. You didn't feel completely ripped-off when the food wasn't great.

The Back Porch Bistro is worth a try! I think that it's better than its older yelp reviews. I have been there 3 times in the last 4 months and thier new chef has them going nowhere but up! They have a great bar and outdoor seating area and finally some great dining options! They put out a great little Sunday brunch too!

Ok. Where to begin. I'll start with the good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak, said it was one of the best he'd ever had. It's a choose you're own sauce and potato style type set up. I also enjoyed my entree, the spinach, ricotta ravioli with asparagus and very fresh tomatoes in a light sauce. Other than that: 1) The place is located in the Victorian Village Resort, which should really be renamed the Victorian Village Family Summer Camp. The restaurant is old and beautiful with a stone fireplace and back porch overlooking Elkhart Lake. It would be very romantic were it not for the giant shuffleboard in the middle of the tables surrounded by dozens of screaming children, which you really couldn't hear yourself over. 2) We asked a couple waitresses for a recommendation on a dry white wine (The list was extensive with 5 pages). No one seemed to have any idea what we were talking about, and we were told they had no one they could ask. When we finally were brought a bottle (which was sweeter than we'd wanted) the waitress didn't know how to use a corkscrew(!), and my husband ended up opening the bottle. When asked she told us she'd worked there for a year and a half. 3) I ordered a beet salad with kohlrabi and mixed greens with house dressing. (note - I'm vegetarian) When I got the salad and put a piece of 'beet' in my mouth (the lighting was very dim) I discovered that I had a hunk of sausage in my mouth... Apparently house dressing means sausage sauce here. When I informed my waitress of this she took it back and returned with a plate of romaine, strawberries and bleu cheese. Not what I ordered! 4) And then lastly...dessert. Let's just say they were pretty good. Berry cheesecake and peach pie. I ordered the apple pie, but then was told 5 minutes later, there was only peach. So I ordered that...I asked 3 times for it to be warmed up and if it could be ala mode. I could just tell she wasn't listening. And guess what, it wasn't warmed up and I had to ask a fourth time for the ice cream. Okay, my rant is done. And it wasn't busy at all. These waitresses had no excuse. It was all I could do not to slam my head down on the table in disbelief. So don't come here, unless you find entertainment value in airheadedness and enjoy a rousing game of shuffleboard with a gaggle of 7 year olds between courses.
