The Valley Bar & Grill

BEST.FISH.FRY.EVER!!! My Grandpa took me here as a kid and I have instilled it as a tradition since. Sundays are good for Chicken too. Worth the drive from the city or where ever you may be comin from. If you are coming from MPLS do yourself a favor and head out to St Croix Trail or 35 on the Wisco side.
Sunday afternoon all you can eat chicken. We planned our trip to Minnesota for my mother's birthday so we could go to Valley Bar and Grill for chicken. We get there once every two years...if we lived here, we would be blimps. The chicken is the best chicken....it's pressure-cooked. That's why it is so moist. Then it gets a quick fry to make it crispy. OMG - it is so good. I eat one huge piece of white meat. My husband takes the legs....its the only place that we can get good fried chicken. Then bisquits and gravy. Tonight we had cucumbers in a dressing, cole slaw, chicken and bisquits and gravy. We topped it off with chocolate pudding. My mother - whose birthday it is (she's 89) had three plates of chicken and bisquits and dumplings. All you can eat for $ 10.50. We love this place. Nothing fancy...it's a bar with a room people that people eat in. But we love it.
During this Lenten season, Friday fish fries abound. But this one's all year long. Don't let the line out the door, especially if the weather's nice, scare you away. You'll think that there's going to be no place to sit, but just hang tight. The place used to be an original dive bar when it was Joe's Valley but in recent years it's been nicely gussied up. You'll snake pass the pool table and move slowly along the bar, but during the Friday fish hours there really aren't any folks sitting at the bar. There may be a little smoke (well I don't even remember any from last time) but it's worth the wait at the end and there's no smoking in the "dining room." It's all served Wisconsin style: No reservations, super casual, come-as-you-are, laminated tables and simple chairs. And sometimes you'll share an end of a big table with strangers, but everyone's in a good mood here stuffing themselves on omega-3-rich fish. You pay at the cash register next to a buffet-line of perfectly done beer-battered cod, ham, home-made au gratins, baked beans, rolls and a "salad bar" without salad but with cole slaw, cut veggies, macaroni salad, three-bean salad, herring, (and maybe even picked beets, cucumber-and-vinegrette and stuff like that). And it's all fantastic. I usually don't bother with the ham, but the fish is the best around. I don't think it takes credit cards. It's around $10 a person last time we were there. There's one of those old fashioned stainless steel milk machines, plus water and coffee. People move in and out very quickly at this place. I hear they have a fantastic chicken fry (unsure it it's Sat or Sun).

Well, who can say no to a Bloody and some community cheez-puffs after a long night shift? Not this gal! Large bar top, really clean, and pretty well have the place to ourselves at 7:30, but this is Wisconsin, so there were a few men wandering in and out, having a few, chatting up the bartender. The Happy Meal Bloody Mary, I was told, Is the "best ever." They didn't lie- but you have to like your Bloody pretty thick and spicy to really enjoy this- and fortunately I do! It was very thick, pretty spicy without having to add any extra Tabasco, and comes with: a pickle spear, a beef stick, an asparagus stick, a peal onion, a pepper, and 2 shrooms. And a cup of beer. Plus, had a good amt of alcohol- I actually didn't finish they whole thing as it really had been a long shift and I could feel myself getting really sleepy about half way through the glass. Bartender chatted for a while, was accommodating about putting the TV on another channel, and kept our pretzel/cheese-puff bowls full. Great place to meet after work and have a few. But bring cash. They don't take cards or checks.
The No Name is a must stop. If you're a Bloody Mary fan, order up a happy meal for some beef sticks, asparagus, celery, onion and pickles! Family owned for 25 years, its that awesome dive bar you can't miss.. During summer outside is a killer patio called the Monkey bar. Get there early to post up on one of the swings next to the bar...
Came here for my 21st birthday and had a blast! Cutest little patio with swings! Nicest bartenders as well!

Philander’s Grill & Bar

1000 US Hwy 10
Prescott, 54021
Reviews:
Prescott is a typical Wisconsin border town. The two block long main street contains a bar on every corner and almost every other building in-between. There are days when you swear there are more people drinking in the bars than the total population of town residents. But Philander's is different. It is not on Hwy 35 down river, but is up the hill along the St. Croix. It is high above the street and is easy to miss. But once you pull off the road and into the parking lot it is a very large place that could easily hold two or three of the other town bars with room left over. It is a Packers bar, so there are oversized Green Bay tchotchkes. But it is more like Lambeau Field meets Cabela's--the mezzanine contains a display of dead stuffed animals. But unlike Cabela's these are not native wildlife but African zoo animals, harvested from a "safari" (or maybe a safari park in Texas). But once you sit down at a booth or table Philander's is actually a pleasant place and one of the few places in Prescott you would actually consider bringing a family. On Sunday nights they have a burger special where a Half-Pound Burger is actually much cheaper than a third pound. It was a good Burger; I would say slightly above average for a WI bar. (There are places in the Twin Cities or Rochester that would put it to shame--but this is Prescott). However there was an extensive appetizer list and many other items on the menu. We also had a Crispy Shrimp Wrap and it was great. The Fries and Potato Chips were out of the package and nothing special. But the fries were hot and fresh at least. We will go back. We hope to explore the menu more and find great items like the Shrimp Wrap! Well worth the stop and a great place if you are hungry, not on a motorcycle and only looking to drink, or have a family along.
Nice place on top of the hill in Prescott a big center bar and a kitchen that makes some pretty good bar food
Walking into this restaurant, you know right away you've entered Wisconsin territory. This place is packed full of fantastic football decor dedicated to Wisconsin's glory, the Green Bay Packers! You'll also be greeted by lots of friendly faces, both staff and customers. If you're looking for a bar and grill with exceptional food at reasonable prices, this is the place for you. Even if you aren't a Packer fan, or even a football fan, you'll enjoy checking out all of the cool memorabilia they have. You'll have plenty of choice to sit because they have a full horse shoe bar, booths, tables, and high-tops! Basically every type of seating. If you're lucky enough to be here during the few warm months we get, you'll want patio seating. You get a nice view because you're atop a hill! They've won several awards in the last year because they are doing things right! The menu is full of your typical bar food, all of which is delicious, with some fun spins and additions. First thing is first, deep fried cheese curds. If you haven't had them, get them now. The beer batter just adds even more delicious Wisconsin flavor to your deep fried cheese. Pure perfection. Not into cheese? Try the onion rings which are also made with the amazing beer batter. Some of the appetizers are almost big enough for meals as well, such as the nachos or quesadillas! The wings are another great choice. You can get them wet or dry, but you can't go wrong with either. The Cajun dry rub is their award-winning flavor, and I definitely recommend! A burger is a burger, right? Wrong. Check out the amazing Avocado burger, topped with avocado, lettuce, tomato, and of course, cheese and bacon! We are in Wisconsin! This burger actually won a local contest this year among all of the restaurants nearby. Another fabulous burger that screams Wisconsin flavor, the Sconny Burger! This imaginative creation has 3 types of cheese, onion straws, and cranberry horseradish on top. If you're looking for something a little more refined, check out the legendary dinner section. You'll find a variety of choices such as steak, seafood, and pasta, and you'll get more of the full dinner feel with your choice of side. My personal favorite is the BBQ ribs. They actually won People's Choice Ribs this year at the town celebration, Prescott Daze! Trust me, it was well deserved. The wraps, sandwiches, and salads are all as equally desirable. You won't be disappointed no matter what you choose! On top of all the choices their menu provides, you'll also find daily specials, including their locally-famous Friday Night Fish-Fry! This is a great place for both lunch and dinner!

Stopped in here with family to kill a couple of hours. I used to go to Prescott on a regular basis but, it has been years since last being here. The location of this place is nearly perfect! Right on the main intersection, over looking the draw bridge over the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers. Incredible out door seating! It was very quiet when we were here, only a few other customers. We had a few appetizers and they were good. Spicey buffalo wings and stuffed peppers. The servings were reasonable, the food tasty, and well prepared. Service was quite good and friendly. The beer selection is not bad, not great, but not bad, either. The place can get very busy and crowded on weekend nights, especially with customers from boating on the river. They are supposed to have a very good live music show - the venue seems really good for that.
If you go there during the day order the French dip from the lunch menu. It is out of this world delicious!!!!! Tender slow cooked chunks of beef roast. I've never had better.
Road my bike down to this little joint in Prescott last night. What a great little place, the menu had just the right amount of items on it and enough variety to accommodate. I was just looking for something light so I went with the chicken wings and cheese curds. Both were very good. I must say though the chicken wings were probably some of the best I can remember eating in a really long time. They were crispy and very well cooked. I like my chicken wings "naked" with the sauce on the side. The overall feel of the restaurant was a bit small and dark (they did have a deck but I choose to eat inside), but that is what i was looking for. Not exactly biker bar, but not applebees either. Great joint and on my list of places to stop for chicken wings during any motorcycle run that runs me through Prescott!!

The brickyard is the best restaurant in Prescott. It has food that the whole family will enjoy! I personally love their soups!!! They are so amazing! I also like their burgers. The servers are friendly too. The brickyard will always hold a special place in my heart.
Good food and good environment. First time here. Will be back, but probably not during Fri lunch, cause the service was pretty minimal.
Clam Chowder (New England style, as God intended), was awesome. I've had it in Boston and San Fran, and this was every bit as good. Both our sandwiches were also top notch. She had a pulled pork with apple slaw, and said it was five star. I had twisted BLT, at waitress recommendation. Wonderful. At least 4. I would call this place a bargain.

I came back for some take out to bring to my grandma- it's her favorite place in town! I didn't really get it until this visit, the food was great! I decided to try the buffalo chicken wrap, my brother ordered the avocado chicken burrito and my grandmas go to is the fish taco. We also got the delicious chips and guac to share. We were there at dinner time on Saturday and the food was made pretty fast, it was only moderately busy. My wrap was really good with the right amount of spicy buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing. I like that the wrap was put on the grill to make it hot and crispy. My brothers burrito looked just like my wrap and looked just as tasty and grandma was happy with her fish taco. I'll definitely stop back again.
The staff was kind and the food came quickly, but it was served on a paper plate with a plastic fork. That is just odd for a restaurant. Very expensive for what you get. I got beans and rice- a really simple order. It tasted the same as any canned refried beans. Nothing special at all. My boyfriend got a chicken burrito of some sort. He said it was good, but for over $9, all it came with was the burrito. No side of rice or beans like a traditional Mexican restaurant would have.
We were going to head into subway which is adjoining but stopped and looked at the menue for Enrique's. It looked good with lots of options so we decided to try something new. First off you can tell the owner LOVES and takes pride in what she does and only wants to serve people the best. Her meat is all fresh from the local butcher. She is very accommodating if you are on a special diet. The stuffed cheese and mushroom burger was hands down the best burger I have ever eaten. My friend had the same and agreed. They give you a basket of home made chips which again are the best we have ever had. Our daughters thuroughly enjoyed their food as well. Amazing food, good prices, wonderful service.

Subway is subway but I can't give this place more then three stars because the service kinda sucks. The manage that works in the morning is never in a good mood. He is actually pretty rude to costumers. And he has acquired the name topping Nazi amongst the locals in town here. If you want more then a couple onions and pinch of lettuce too bad!

Horrible service. I went there today in the drive through window. They couldn't hear me on the intercom so they asked me to pull in and they'd take my order at the window. They gave me cold fries, one burger had one less patty then they were supposed to, and I got an extra drink. The receipt didn't tell me what the order was and just gave the total, so I don't know if I was charged for the drink. I would have asked but the girl at the window was complaining to another coworker so I didn't want to deal with it. Also, the time before I ordered large fries and was given small. I think this store took too much money from me. I'm never going back.
This DQ is the pits. Ate here on 8/12/2011 after I got off my flight in St Paul heading towards Eleva, WI. I ordered the Mushroom burger and it made me puke!! I fed 1/2 of the burger to the ducks at a near-bye beach. I should have know my food was going to come out crappy cause the manager was in a piss ass mood.
No zero star option unfortunately. I'm a blizzard guy and sadly this is my hometown DQ I'm stuck with. I get blizzards other places, primarily the Turtle Pecan Cluster, and for the most part, they are pretty consistent at the other store, and delicious I might add. Over the years I've kept swearing this Prescott store off as each time I go, my Blizzard has far less ingredients in it than any other place. Once again, the last one I had not only was thin on the ingredients, but it was only partially mixed. The bottom 1/2 of my blizzard was plain vanilla, no ingredients. I complained and was told "that's all they let me put in". NEVER AGAIN. I'd thought maybe it was the person making it but it doesn't matter who makes it. My daughter likes the brownie bits blizzard. "Can't do it, our boss doesn't want to store those here. " WTF? Doesn't DQ have control of what they are supposed to stock for flavors? My wife prefers the chocolate ice cream, not vanilla with nasty chocolate syrup they like to pass off as chocolate. Nope, don't have chocolate ice cream. Attitudes of the employees are often very bad too. Not a pleasant experience. I'll drive the extra miles to River Falls (the BEST Blizzards), Hastings or Cottage Grove. Never again. Run away and save your money.
