I love this place. I found it by accident when going to my bank one morning. After going back 2 more times, I grabbed a punch card. I've gotten 3 free drinks since. So I've gotten 30+ drinks from here. (My caffeine addiction is shameful, I admit it) Prices and great taste kept me coming back. The place has a great atmosphere and the employees are always cheerful. Unfortunately, the past 3 times I've ordered and paid the price of a 20oz, while the coffee I was given was 16oz. At first I chalked it up to a mistake. The 2nd time I questioned myself. But the third time I decided to measure it. Sure enough, my 20oz coffee mug, was no where near full. As I mentioned I've ordered a number of drinks, usually 20oz, so I should of said something immediately when I noticed it. I plan to say something next time it happens. Though I have to admit, this has left me wondering if they're consciously ripping people off or it's just a lack of awareness. I've talked this place up to a number of friends and colleagues in Lake Country and have always been a huge supporter of local establishments. I'd hate to have to find a new coffee place, but money is money and I expect what I pay for. As far as taste and usual cost, it's 5 stars.. But these recent experiences knock it down to 3.5 stars for me.

I read the reviews and was worried that it was to good to be true. It wasn't, the atmosphere and the coffee was great. Being an east sider at heart I'm always looking for the local fair and a unique place to go, this place definitely has that vibe.

Awesome place! I frequently stop here for a cup of coffee. Their tea is good, too. The daytime barista knows my usual but I enjoy asking her to surprise me. She does a great job - she's been inventive and always makes a great drink. Last month I tried a sandwich for lunch and was surprised - it was good!! The other day I saw a couple ordering soup and it smelled fantastic. Between Malabar on the north side of Capitol and Starbucks on the south, Malabar definitely wins. There's no comparison! They roast their beans in house and have great equipment but what really does it is the fact that you'll always have a friendly, familiar face behind the counter.

Wonderful brewed coffee but for a real treat try the cold brewed iced coffee with a dash of cream. Wow. Better than dessert! It's nice also that when you order an iced coffee or tea they are UNSWEETENED, not like many large chain coffee shops where sweetened is the norm and you have to order your drink without it. Also love the iced green tea which tastes gingery and the iced black tea which is my new favorite.

Love love love this place! I like to support small local businesses and this is exactly what Malabar is. I like to study or read there. Everything I need is there - coffee, lunch and bakery. Keep up the great work!

BEST COFFEE IN THE MIDWEST. Staff knows their coffee, and always greet you with a warm smile! Highly recommend to anybody looking to get off the Starbucks bandwagon

Independent, small, local business. Good coffee with a nice cozy atmosphere. Customer loyalty cards available. Drive-thru is a bonus!

Used to be the old Dunn Bros. Great coffee place. The staff is extremely friendly and responsive. Not a chain which is a huge plus in my book. Coffee is excellent. They just added sandwiches which I have yet to try but have been told they are great. Better than Starbucks or Caribou. I like that fact they light the gas fireplace when it's a cold day.

I fully endorse an independent coffee shop that doesn't place soy milk, 2%, skim, almond milk, Lactaid or other whitening additives next to good ol' half and half. Sometimes I spend more time trying to determine which carafe is filled with 50/50 than I do ordering my coffee. That's not the case at Malabar Coast. One carafe: half milk, half cream, pure enlightenment. Malabar is a great little coffee shop out in the deep western suburbs. They offer freshly roasted coffee and their own assortment of delicious bakery items. If you're lucky, you'll score a cookie hot out of the oven, not shipped across the town or country like you might at some other coffee shops. A few leather chairs, artistic representations of elephants and a gas fireplace present the decor of the long and narrow coastline on the south-western shore line of the Indian subcontinent: the Malabar Coast. (Thanks, Wikipedia, for helping me discover where the Malabar Coast is!) However, unlike the real Malabar Coast, the coffee shop version has wi-fi and is dengue fever-free. Plus they serve great sandwiches. The Malabar Coast. When you find yourself Jonesing for a coffee, avoid Seattle across the street and head to this little Milwaukee-style shop just across Capitol Drive. It's good.

Nothing but great things to say about this hidden gem. My wife and I both loved our coffee and the bacon and egg sandwich I got was great. They take their coffee seriously here as they have plenty of whole bean coffee available for sale as well. Good to see coffee places like Malabar popping up so people don't have to settle for lousy coffee. 107/365

Small independent coffee house that has an in house roaster. Mixed coffee drinks (lattes...) are most the same everywhere, so I judge coffee in its basic form, black! And the coffee here is very good. Rich bold flavor, but not burnt tasting.

Great place, surprisingly large and spacious. I've only had the espresso drinks here so far and it was bold and wonderful. The food looked fresh and delicious and I will be back to try it! Great place for intimate business meetings, and of course, I'm all for supporting local biz!!

I should have been suspicious when all the other reviews were 5 stars and every comment had an exclamation point! Here's an honest review. Regular coffee had a "plastic" taste to it. Latte was awful. We ended up going to Le Caffe Bistro in Waukesha for a good coffee. Sandwiches were made with cheap deli turkey. Our food took forever even though it wasn't crowded and there were no other food orders.
