Ralph's is certainly a local favorite.... it's the place you want to go for the "Friday Night Fish Fy" and then of course, Saturday's Jumbo Shrimp specials! They have "down-home" specials everyday! Where else can you get an Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich, over mashed-potatoes with home-made gravy? It's always incredibly inexpensive and delicious. My favorite is the basic cheeseburger and fries. And when I say BASIC, I mean it... don't expect much more than the basics. "Hello, What can I get you?" and they will go back and grill it up for you and bring it back. There is usually ONE server on. They have 1919 Rootbeer on tap! It's served in frosted glass. It's really good... So, yes... Ralph's is family owned and mostly operated. It's a cool spot. Nothing fancy, at all... but serves up some good-cookin! I've always had a great time there!

This is a nice find in Pepin. Currently run by Nancy and Bill, the B&B is just a few blocks from the marina and a few blocks from highway 35. The house itself is actually a replica of harbor houses out east, but is of modern construction. This means that air conditioning and plumbing were not an afterthought. We stayed in Ruth's Room, which overlooks the front entrance and is just after the gathering area. Unlike many B&Bs, there isn't a sense of being crammed in knickknacks and kitsch. The house is clean and bright. The bed is comfortable. The 2-person jacuzzi actually could have fit a third person, but being it was out fifteenth wedding anniversary, I didn't want to push my luck. Just two blocks towards the lake, the Harbor View makes a very nice upscale dinner -- upscale in terms of the variety and quality of their menu -- you can show up in deck shoes and a t-shirt, however. Nancy's breakfasts are simple and not overboard in the quantity department. That is not to say that they are not delicious and filling, but some B&Bs actually stuff you to the gills merely for stuffing's sake. We were fortunate to be the only guests on a Thursday, so we had free rein of the outdoor patio that faces the lake, visible here and there through the trees. Neighborhood cats have various business ventures, lankily loping in the area. Squirrels build nests, using the power line as safe passage to avoid the aforementioned cats. Just as the sun set, a regalia of bats dotted the air. Overall, I highly recommend A Summer Place. But now for the constructive criticism. I would suggest bringing water. Unlike some B&Bs, there is no water pitcher/water dispenser/welcome water bottles. There are no mini-fridges in the rooms/common area. There are some local gas stations that sell bottled water within walking distance. Secondly, coffee is served late, by my inscrutable standards. No coffee until 8 a.m. Granted we did not request an alteration of schedule, and they may be more than amenable to customization. Thirdly, breakfast falls closer to the 10 a.m. range, which is fine if you are sleepers-in, but it's late for the working man and... Fourthly, the shades on the windows (at least in Ruth's Room, which faces east) are thin, allowing Tony Orlando and Dawn to creep in early, awakening you, wishing you had some coffee. Lastly, and I hesitate to register this as a critique - consider it an observation. The house is situated just blocks from the Burlington Northern rail, and there is regular service on the line - including in the middle of the night. The house shakes - not abhorrently - but enough to wake one from a fitful sleep. Consider the charm of an old river/rail town. Overall, however, I would have no qualms about spending time there again.

Food was great! Loves the variety of options for sandwiches, burgers, wraps and sides. Decent atmosphere. Wish they kept the downstairs open for more outdoor seating, but overall great food!
Went here for lunch during the Spring Flood Run, was busy but not nearly as crazy as other places along the route. Decent service, good choices, good drink specials, food was nothing amazing but good. Would come back, can't beat the view!
After the first day of fishing, having dinner here is standard protocol for my family. We had deep fried onions for appetizer. It was served with ranch dressing. Pretty yummy. I ordered the deep fried fish sandwich. The fish was very good. It was not properly presented. The lettuce was soaked in oil. The sandwich was below average. Cold Leinie's were awesome.
