Not bad, not good. The food was good. Service was SLOW. Kinda sad that at 10am I could only order breakfast here, but what did I expect? Waitress Morgandy was nice and helped us out and really did bring every little thing we asked for. Very nice waitress. The food did take a little time to come out, but it was good anyway. Would I come here again? Yes. Hopefully I will get to try the non breakfast menu though.

Nice, authentic-feeling atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. They offer many unique dishes and the food we had was delicious! One of my new favorite restaurants and I will be back.

We stopped here after spending the day at Old World Wisconsin. I was a little hesitant to write a review because after spending five hours hiking, pond water and tree bark would have tasted good to me. ;-) However, hiking merely made us appreciate a good meal all the more -- and we had a very nice meal here. Plus, service was very prompt and our server very knowledgeable about their menu and drink options. Speaking of drinks, they have New Glarus Spotted Cow on tap. It's a favorite of my son and I'd never had it. It was delish! Finally, be sure to check out their extensive selection of specialty coffee drinks. It's pretty exceptional, with a lot of easily comparable to what you'd find in a Starbucks. Plus, they have a couple of options that you would not find elsewhere -- like "Café con Miel" -- which is espresso, milk & honey.

Bought a deal online for Antigua Real because I'm always up for trying a new place. It was a Saturday night and it was not very crowded, made me a little leary. Inside we were greeted by a hostess and taken right to a table. The decor was pretty nice, really liked the waterfall wall. Booths are cozy and each one has a coat rack which is nice. Menu selection is adequate. Not a lot to choose from but enough to make a decision quickly. Our waitress could have used some skills in being a people person, she mumbled and would walk away before you could finish your sentence. Food came, it was hot. It was ok, just ok. I had fajitas, have had better at many other places. Hubby had a combo platter, everything tasted the same. Overall, it was somewhere new with a deal and we tried it. I wouldn't say I would never go back but I would not make the drive to just go there. Food was ok, service was meh, ok, place was nice.

super disappointed. They atmosphere is very pretty. We thought when we sat down and looked at the menu we were in for a treat...well we were wrong. Overpriced drinks, very bland food.

Table for 8 with 4 grade school children. Waitress very patient with friendly service. Excellent mole sauce. Authentic Mexican with the wonderful addition of great tasting Central America and island food

Yep- this is a good one! It's hard to find original dishes at most Mexican restaurants. (No offense!) This place includes a number of Spanish and Central American-influenced dishes, which I found interesting. If you travel through WI in business, I would recommend the stop!

I agree with Tonya, this place is great! I was so impressed with my dinner, with the service, and with all of the tasty margarita options. I honestly can't remember what I ordered, but do know it was not the standard boring veggie option. And, my leftovers didn't even make it to the next day. I'll be going back for sure.

Great horchata, best authentic Mexican food I've had, and a very friendly and efficient waiter. Will come again.

I was going to post a picture of our food, but it was too good to not eat it instantly. I would **HIGHLY** suggest the Pork Loin Al Pastor. It was a well presented dish that tasted up to its description. We also got the churro's for desert (see the posted picture) and it was a very sugary sweet dish. We read the precedeing reviews about the quality of service, and we had NO problems at all. Quick refills of sodas and chips had us happy right off the bat. NO problems for us on a friday night.

Best food I've had in a long time! We came from Illinois and so glad we stopped here for lunch. We are Latino's and didn't expect good food but it was authentic and so flavorful!

Third time NOT a charm. Our group of 8 went here on a Friday night. It was half empty in there yet they jammed us at s tiny table made for maybe 6 way in the back where we could see in the kitchen. The hostess said they'd get us another chair. They never came back with a chair or waitress! We had to get our own chair and waitress after 20 minutes of staff passing by us going into the kitchen- and literally lifting trays over our head. Once we grabbed our waitress- who was not supposed to be ours, she was great. However, food took easily half hour to get to us- I had fajitas- taste was fine but way too little food for 13.00. We stayed longer after eating to talk- at some point there was a horrible boiled egg or sulfur smell coming from the kitchen that forced us out. I gave this place three tries- they failed each time- no more chances

Good food. Horrible service. Our server Morgandy did not check to see how our food was. our drinks were empty. She never came to ask if we wanted more drinks either. We had a groupon she did not want to Accept it. We asked to speak to manager. She said sure then came back 10 min later claiming the manager was too busy and she would do it. She set the checks down Without saying another word. Very Rude. We left her a .38 tip which was more than she deserved. I will not be back.

Real-ly terrific! Thanks to Yelp for shedding light on my newest addition to my Mexican fave list. The initial attraction was a children's Spanish cooking class. I've got to say for 40 min of free entertainment that captures and educates is a perk I've not found offered by others. Plus, I received 10% off my meal after the class. The food was good but lacked a few sides. My enchiladas didn't come with sour cream. Ok, no big deal and I could've asked. But, isn't sour cream standard? Still the food was worth the drive. And, they have an expansive coffee bar. I was extremely impressed with the service. I will say the most polite and attentive I've had in a long time. I'll certainly be back sooner than later. Great experience.

Our highest marks for the variety, uniqueness, and consistent quality of the food. One of our favorite 'Mexican' places in the greater Milwaukee area, and a monthly stop. Latin influences provide fun and delicious spins on expected offerings. Great ambience and attention to detail such as the warm frothed cream served with one of the best cups of coffee anywhere. Can't decide, try the burrito rancheros.

Not sure how this establishment has 4 stars. Besides the salsa which was decent at best, the food was completly tasteless. My husband had the burrito which was small, drowned in sauce (and we like sauce) that had no flavor. I had the shrimp soup, which also lacked any taste. The shrimp were similar to the tiney shrimp that come in a can. One compliment I will give them is that it is nicely decorated...

I'm from Wisconsin, but live in California now, and was back visiting. I came here with my sister-in-law, and she has been here before and said it was good. The place is decorated great, and I enjoyed looking at all the ceramic masks on the walls. The chips and salsa were OK, but I'm used to hot salsa now, and it could have been kicked up a few notches. On the other hand, it was too hot for sister-in-law! I really wanted Mexican eggs, but they weren't on the menu. Our wonderful server said that if it wasn't on the menu, I couldn't order it. OK, I just needed some Mexican food; I was "in withdrawal" for Mexican food. I ordered the cheese enchiladas, and sister-in-law ordered the beef enchiladas. Sister-in-law said that her enchiladas were greasy, not as good as last time. My enchiladas were OK, the beans were good, but the rice tasted greasy. Sister-in-law ordered the fried ice cream, and I had a few bites. It was tasty, and even though sister-in-law said that it wasn't the best fried ice cream she ever had, she ate it all! Would I come back? Yeah. It wasn't the best Mexican food I ever had, but it was definitely OK. Put the Huevos Mexicanos on the menu! Por favor!!!

I'm a huge fan of Antigua Real. I think it far outdistances all other Mexican/Latin restaurants in the metro Milwaukee area. The breakfasts are interesting and well prepared, they serve Alterra coffee and steam the cream for your coffee in the espresso machine.

Another Antigua in the Milwaukee region... and another thumbs-up! As far as I know, the owners of the two restaurants are not related or affiliated, and yet somehow the style conveyed is similar. Antigua Real has built a fascinating space with an art gallery aspect to it (I really enjoyed sitting by the waterfall near the booths--which have a pergola "ceiling" below a deep blue-purple ceiling that intimates the night sky). There's even a small gift shop near the entry that sells local handicrafts from Central America. The interesting twist on these guys' menu is that it feels typical-American-expectation friendly... They don't include the refried beans that EVERY other Mexican/Latin American restaurant gives you; instead you get tasty fire-roasted vegetables like zucchini, squash, and peppers. And while their rice is a pilaf of some kind, it is spiced slightly differently from such creations of my previous experience. I had a fantastic adobado pork dish with a nice compliment of roasted pineapple to give you a contrast to the spices on the pork. And the horchata was creamy and delicious, while our standard barometer of performance, the flan, exceeded expectations with the abundant caramel sauce underlying the custard... and the surrounding swirls of whipped cream. For the price, these guys are definitely worth an evening's expedition. They offer a fully stocked bar, and while the waitresses were very suburban high-school youths, we were well taken care of even while we didn't really expect much out of the experience. We will absolutely be returning.

Was brought here by some local friends. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. We called ahead because we had a large group, and a table was waiting for us when we arrived. There is a good selection to choose from, and the selections include more regions than just Mexican. Our friends told us it was more of a "Latin" cuisine than Mexican. In addition to the other varieties of foods, there were even plantains as a possible side dish. They offered a lunch portion for each meal listed. My meal was very flavorful. I had a chimichanga, covered in a jalapeno cream sauce and chorizo, in addition to many other flavors. The grilled veggies were so fresh and tasty too... My daughter enjoyed her taquitos. My sons both had the Sopa de Camaron (Shrimp soup), and only the tomato lover really loved his soup. It was not particularly "soupy"... it had a LOT of chunks of tomatoes in lieu of the tomato-based soup. My youngest had the appetizer quesadillas, which were more than enough to suffice as a meal for him... add it to the soup, and he was unable to finish. My husband a dish with mole sauce, which included chocolate, cinnamon, and pumpkin flavors. He enjoyed it. The margaritas were good... not the best I've ever had, but still a pretty decent margarita. If I lived in the area, I would likely return to sample some more of the dishes.

We've been here for evening meals and found the food tasty and service good. Today I joined a friend for breakfast and it was very enjoyable. Wasn't crowded as we arrived at 11:00, and our waiter was prompt and courteous. Food arrived quickly, and hot from the kitchen. Great choice of breakfast entrees and I'd do it again.

While I would describe this food Latin American with an American influence, I must emphasize that Antigua Real is nothing like the Mexican-American over-salted crap that resembles $10.99 Taco Bell that you may find at other restaurants. The ingredients are fresh and the menu promises items both standard and unique. Each time I have been here I have enjoyed the interior. The service is inconsistent but better in the summer when they staff college students. Definitely worth the drive.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
