Wow, the old McDonalds on Monona Drive has gotton a face lift, and is all "Grown Up" Gone are the playgrounds and screaming kids, replaced with a clean modern look, digital menu that includes nutritional information. As dramatic as the renovations are, the same is true for the clientele .... I am the youngest one in the place... the octogenarian's in attendance were genuinely enjoying themselves, and rightfully so. The " New" McDonald's is clean, bright and clear very pleasant alternative to the stereotypical "Playland" of our past...

Very friendly and funny owner greeted us right away, service was quick and also friendly and the food was great and didn't cringe when we got the bill. The owner also thanked us for coming. A great choice!
Stopped by for breakfast after church on Easter morning. There was no wait for a table and we received an incredibly warm welcome. My wife is 40 weeks pregnant and we requested a booth. The gentleman that hosted us was nice enough to make sure my wife was comfortably seated. All of the waitstaff had smiles on their faces, despite working on a holiday. Our waitress was attentive and kind. My coffee cup was hardly empty. I ordered the walleye and scrambled eggs with hash browns and a side of pancakes, while my wife ordered the breakfast burrito with hash browns. Everything was fantastic. My wife's burrito was satisfying and flavorful with the compliment of fresh salsa. Her hash browns looked golden brown and perfectly cooked. My hash browns were crispy and the pancakes were just what I was expecting with three options for syrup. The real star was the walleye; it was well-seasoned, deliciously flaky, and something I would be happy to get on any Friday night fish fry. I typically like to cook breakfast in my own kitchen, but this place is one of my first choices for that morning when I just want to go out to eat. The food tastes good and is affordable. There is a warm, comfortable, small-town atmosphere. We'll be back, for sure.
Wow. What horrible service. Took us 10 minutes to order our food and they weren't busy. There were like 5 tables full and 5 waitresses available. The food came pretty quickly after but after we got our food the waitress never came to check back with us. Maybe she would have realized I never touched my food. I've never ordered a chicken Caesar wrap at a restaurant and have it have onions on it and I hate onions. The broccoli cheddar soup looked like it came out of a can. My fiance ordered the fajita skillet and it was decent but the hashbrown we're soggy. Because of the service we will never come back.

Fraboni’s Italian Specialties & Delicatessen

I'm sure that another glowing rating of Fraboni's is not needed, but I'm doing it anyway because I can and it's that good. Best one stop shop for all things Italian that I know of. Can't beat an Otto & fresh curds...ever. They still run the "frequent sandwich buyers" card so you can work towards a free one. The only thing better than Fraboni's is free Fraboni's. I have no clue why anyone would want to go to the chain sandwich slingers after grabbing a few sammies to go. Friendly staff and fantastic product. I will continue to go back until I am physically unable. At that point, I will send someone to bring it to me.
The first thing I think about when I think about Fraboni's is the smell when you first open up the door. It is totally delicious, and you really can't put your finger on exactly what it is. I assume it's a combination of the cooking porkettas and meatballs, the various spices they sell, and pizza sauce. Whatever the smell is, I wish I could order a plateful of it! If I am going into Fraboni's, you know I'm not coming out empty handed.
FRABONI"S mmm.. walk in... now breath it in....Just stepping though that door you know you are in the real deal. THIS is my personal must have GO TO place when creating my perfect italian sauce. If they did not exist, i would be floundering for an alternative. FRABONI's offers San Marzano canned tomatoes, which are hard to find, Real Italian olive oils and global spices ( I love the choices of oreganos) etc. Fraboni's is the only place in Madison to get real Ricotta Cheese available in 3 pd containers, and I mean good Ricotta, not the mushy watery stuff. They also carry imported FETA. If you are a FETA fan, please i beg you to try the French Feta. It is beyond creamy goodness. I have to say, you can also get your Pecorino Romano here as well as your PARMIGIANO-REGGIANO Oh did I mention the full Italian Deli?? Prosciutto, mortadella, imported provolone and pancetta..i can go on and on( i use their homemade Italian sausage in my sauce) Fraboni's is a TRUE Italian Specialty Store. I have not indulged in their ready foods, but based on the store itself, i wouldn't be surprised by excellence. Please go in...be amazed by Italy in Madison. Don't cook without them!

Great little dive bar, small town feel and prices. I'd give it five stars if they had a better tap selection, but I don't think it would fit with the atmosphere. Good selection of pool tables, dartboard, ski-ball, and even 25 cent bumper pool.

I ordered goat curry and fried plantains for dinner...let me just say Mmmazing! The food had excellent flavor, beautiful aroma and just simply lovely. Highly recommend this place.
We ordered off the menu on a rainy late afternoon. I've never been here before but have tried their chicken at The Taste. The food blew my socks off; it was crazy good. Order the chicken wings!! Jerk chicken is on point too! Service was slow, rude, and it felt like we were putting her out by coming in.
Tried their food at The Taste of Madison and loved it. Went on a Friday and had the buffet with my wife. Jerk chicken, pork, curried chicken, and fried plantains. All were very good. We will be going back.

Perfect lazy summer evening ice cream shop. Love the old fashioned soda jerk counter (as a former junior member of the Nat'l Assoc of Soda Jerks, I'm obviously an expert! :P ) and classic ice cream sodas, although I remain a total sucker for the vanilla malt. I have no experience with the bait shop, but they appear to have 5-7 worm varieties to choose from, so... there's that!
This is one of the best-kept secrets around. An old mom and pop soda jerk counter, ice cream, and true to Wisconsin, bait shop all rolled into one. Quaint, comfortable, and with a decent selection of lunch items including a daily soup. Nothing fancy, just lunch counter fare. And what's wrong with that? The hours are seasonal, from mid-April until about the first weekend of October. So if you want get in before the season ends, make tracks!
Great local color in the Madison area. Out for a day on/around the lake? Come here, as the locals have been doing for a while. They feature excellent small-batch ice cream from UW Madison and it is a great summer experience. I was with a Mad-town native who insisted we had to go there after we got off a day on the boat on the lake, and she was right. Try one of the special sundaes.

Starbucks

Reviews:
Yes, I am reviewing a Starbucks. The reason for this review was for the exceptional service I received here this past weekend. My wife has been saving the points up on her Starbucks rewards card (a gold card). It turns out that you have to cash in free drinks within 30 days on your card now, and they can not be stored and used when ever you like. So instead of have multiple free drinks on her card for us to use, we only had 1 free one. The employee at the counter explained this new rule to us, and still hooked us up with a second free drink any size/ any kind of our choice. It was truly awesome customer service! So thank you lady employee behind the register this last Easter Sunday around noon. Other things I noticed about this Starbucks, it was very clean, a well organized pastry/muffin area. There is no drive thru, so that kinda sucks. I counted at least 3 people working behind the counter, so staffed properly. Our drinks were made quick and tasted great! 4 out of 5 only because it is a Starbucks and there are just so many of them (its not original). Again, excellent customer service!
This Starbucks has great and friendly staff and is always clean, which is excellent. Although I there are always improvements to be made: 1) turn down the music in the back -- I like to go and do work at coffee shops and it is hard to concentrate there because of the volume of their music. 2) Turn up the heat! I know this is hard because everyone is different, but when everyone who is sitting at tables are still wearing their coats in Fall like weather inside, I think it is safe to turn it up a little. Hope this is helpful! I do recommend this Starbucks though. The renovation is beautiful.
The staff here is so friendly!

CherryBerry

Reviews:
So, I've been to CherryBerry a few times now and have had enough dessert awesomeness to give it a full and proper review. The first thing you should do when walking into CherryBerry is ask the employee at the register for a stack of sample cups. This will allow you to try as many as possible flavors before choosing the perfect combo or just one. Now don't expect creamy ice cream or even self serve. It is more like a pureed iced/kind of sorbet thing going on here. Claiming to be frozen yogurt, just without the creamy factor you would find when eating ice cream. Honestly, as long as I can pile on the toppings I'm not too picky about my flavor and tend to stick to some standard flavors like peanut butter or cookie monster. But, my exception is that I recently enjoyed an Orange flavor (more like sorbet) that was out of this world. I felt like I was eating orange soda. It was awesome. As for the toppings, you will have you choice of like anything you can possibly think of. Basically name it. Cookies, candy bars, peanut butter, fruit, caramel, caramel sauce, fudge, whipped cream, little round juice balls, m&m's.....and the list goes on..... My favorite part about CherryBerry is when we get to weight the dish at the end and see who has made the heaviest amongst everyone that has come with me. Inevitably, I seem to always either win or come close. CherryBerry, I Love you.
Friendly staff. Cool deals. Tuesday wear a Cherry Berry bracelet get 3oz free. Double point Wednesday. Thursday get 3 oz free with student I.D.Reward card. Every dollar spent you get a point on the card. Every 50 points you get $5 dollars on the card. It cost 45 cents per ounce. Huge place. So great for groups Good variety in toppings. Fruit, sauces, cereal, nuts, chocolate, etc. Same old, same old. Good spread in low fat, non fat, full fat & sorbet flavor. On Facebook they list their daily flavors. Ask the staff for sample cups. Only get a few but I just reuse them. Because I like to taste every flavor not just a few. The major problem I have is that most of their flavors are weak in flavor or just not true to what they are to be and somewhat icy/watery. Had better at other shops in Madison.
I was craving frozen yogurt and running errands in the area, so decided to stop in. The interior looks similar to that of my favorite froyo shop--bright colors and clean surfaces. The employee was friendly and did a great job of explaining the discount card. They have more topping options than my regular place. Unfortunately, the product itself has poor flavor and mouthfeel. Most varieties were icy rather than creamy. The best flavor I tried was red velvet, which left plenty to be desired in the taste department. It was a disappointing experience that left me wishing I had just picked up a frozen treat from the grocery store... or schlepped across town to my regular froyo shop.

Denny’s

I only hit this place for a very early breakfast. The service is always good. The food is comfort style: too much cheese, salt, and grease. It's fine every now and then but not a regular place for me to hit. Dining room is clean and somewhat modern.
Ever been to a Denny's at 5:30AM on a Thursday? I have. It's strange. Whether it's the long road trucker loading up on coffee, the random lady sleeping a booth, or creepy guy giving me creepy eye from a couple of booths over, the atmosphere strikes you as a little off. But hey, it's Denny's. What do you expect? For the food, well, again, it's Denny's. It's not horrible. Breakfast options are common, plentiful, and delicious. The coffee will be topped off regularly and you'll be 6 cups in before you know it. The rest of the offerings are typically anything from deep-fried somethingorother to a "fit menu" offering that usually is a little short on taste. So it's not a bad place. It's a good place for kids, and you won't leave disappointed. Just so long as creepy guy isn't there.
I am not normally a huge fan of Denny's but, they gave me FREE BREAKFAST YESTERDAY!

the tiki bar is fun! (open in the summer every night from 4p-10p with the exclusion of possible friday and saturday night weddings that rent it out privately) but the fish fry on friday nights is definitely worth skipping. cold, bland food for too much money. full of elderly people, which usually means it's just bland and cheap, but it was $24 for my husband and i to have the buffet (which is the only option on fridays, don't know about other days). i love fish frys and this one was highly disappointing. BUT i'm still giving this place 4 stars because the back yard and tiki bar are pretty stellar and they have a sunday brunch that i'd still like to try out. i wouldn't go there for dinner again though, but if you want to drink a beer and sit by the lake (assuming that you don't already live on a lake), this is the place to go! friendly staff and gorgeous views of the capitol, especially at night.
Not a bad venue for large gatherings and group functions, such as weddings, reunions, and fund raisers. There are two floors - both offer great views of the lake; the staff is prompt and friendly - there's rarely a wait for drinks. The bathrooms, while small, are usually clean and serviceable. Plenty of parking in the outdoor lot.
Perhaps 50 years ago institutional food was served with white tablecloths and cloth napkins; so if you are seeking a great place to entertain grandma, head on over to the East Side Club for the "famous" Crandalls fish fry. Two plates of cod, fries and the iceberg garden salads complete with one half wedge of tomato and two rings of onion, 2 beers and tip $50.
