Delicious. Love this place. You get an entire pot of coffee at your table and they have flavored creamer. These are bonus points in my book. :) crab eggs Benedict was very good. Eggs in the bread-- was awesome. Huge piece of Texas toast that appeared would be heavy but was light and buttery. Bacon was also above par. Thicker cut-- not too crispy not too floppy. Perfect. Hash browns were also amazing. Highly recommend.

I love their breakfasts but the Fish Fry's are less than mediocre. I had the fried walleye and it was soggy. My guest ordered Mac and cheese and it looked liked it came out of a box.

We love this place! The best is the miss piggy Bloody Mary! Family owned business and very high-quality food for the price tag. They don't accept credit cards. You only need one meal for 2 people.

The wait for food can be considerable, the service sassy (but in a humorous sarcastic way) and the interior hasn't been updated in the last couple decades. You know what...all of that adds to the ambiance that is Lake Placid. It isn't very often when a breakfast can own me forcing leftovers. This did! I had the meal with two eggs, corned beef and hash, hash browns, pepper jack cheese and super toast. I swear their bread is heaven sent as I can feel my mouth watering for it as I type. My one complaint would be the size of a large milk as growing up on a farm I like the moo juice. Im guessing it was about a 12 ounce size. Things of note: they offer a full service bar and are a cash only resturaunt so be sure to plan ahead on this part. Reservations are written on a marker board in the bar area. I cant wait to return next time I'm in the area.

What to say. This is a solid 4.5 stars but since you can't do that I bumped it up to 5. No the service is not fast. If you are up here you are probably on vacation or Social Security so what is the rush? I have had a lot of fish fry in my time. The last time I really good fish fry was years ago so it is tough to say who's is best etc. However, this one is certainly in my top three of all time. I had the Cod which was exellent, and the batter was crisp and not greasy. The potato pancakes with homemade apple sauce were amazing. Standard Northern Wisconsin tradition of salad bar suppressed my Midwestern guilt over eating food that is bad for me. Leinie's from the bar to wash it all down. If you want great fish fry and some atmosphere this is your place. Places like this are why you are on Yelp in the first place.

If only there were 6 stars....we have been returning to this spot for the past couple years, and I can say it has ruined french toast for me. I cannot eat it anywhere else, this is hands down THE best french toast you will ever eat. The bread is hommade, so even The Lunker (this is what my husband gets and I steal bites of) is made from this delicious 1.5" thick hommade bread... the food is one thing, but Denise just seals the deal with the charm and Northwoods coziness. I mean who else can you call at 11:50 am from the snowmobile trail, and ask if she will stay open because of your wrong turn when closing time is noon. Sure, no problem see you then...ride safe....so we were happy to ride west out of Minocqua to this amazing place two days in a row and we can't wait to return. Yelp really needs to step up the game with the stars ******

The absolute best breakfast in the North Woods! Our waiter was the best. Funny! He made the experience so great! Remember, this place is worth the wait. Have a Miss Piggy Bloody Mary, and be prepared to leave FULL! AMAZING PLACE!!

A bit of a wait at 11am on a Wednesday, well worth it for a spectacular breakfast. I never drink in the morning, but was persuaded to try a bloody mary with horseradish and wasn't sorry. My weedbed: bottom layer of crunchy hash browns, fabulous corn beef hash, two perfectly cooked eggs over easy; I passed on the sauce/gravy layer. It sounds odd, but it was just wonderful. Two great pancakes on the side. Waitstaff quirky and hilarious, ambience one-of-a-kind. Our friends (locals) filled us in on the joint's colorful history. Clearly this place is no secret, and for good reason.

Worth the wait, $ reasonable, and very yummy. We'll be back and will refer friends. Be sure to write your name and # of party on the white board upon entering - because there will be a wait. Both my wife and I had a bloody Mary, nothing to rave about. Got seated and was offered a bite of delicious coffee cake. That was a nice touch, the kids loved it. Ordered coffee right away, kind of weak. But now the breakfast: it was terrific! Kids had biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and waffles. All three were very happy with the breakfast; but trust me the French toast and the weedbed are what make this place special! The manager (owner?) looked to be very involved waiting on customers - he took our order and smalltalked with us. His straightforward deadpan sarcastic humor made the conversation enjoyable.

We loved this charming old school Northwoods breakfast joint. The woman who waited on our table kept the restaurant open a little later in the afternoon than normal to accommodate an elderly couple visiting from Wausua. Turns out she is the owner who also lived in Wausua, and they reminisced about the early eighties when Wausau was awarded the All America City Award. The bloody mary was punchy and flavorful and right up my girlfriend's alley. I enjoyed a welcome bite of coffee cake after we had placed our food orders. The breakfast was the star of the experience here. I had the Weed Bed, a fishing term, not what happens slumber-wise post munchies. Crispy potatoes and American cheese blanketed eggs over easy and thick cut bacon. The bread was homemade and richly delicious. Lake Placid Inn is currently the go-to place for a real deal breakfast in Wisconsin's Northwoods!

Went for the Friday Fish Fry after reading review here. The food was OK but our goateed waiter was rude. No welcome, he made a few mildly insulting remarks and at first I thought he was joking but no, he was just grouchy. Even great food isn't worth an unfriendly atmosphere. This is the first negative review I've ever written.

Like others have said, if it was possible to give this place 6 stars, I would. The food is nothing short of amazing. The portions are huge, the quality is top notch, and the prices are very reasonable. They make all of their bread in house. The cinnamon raisin bread is to die for. I had the weed bed, which is a skillet of hash browns, covered with eggs and meat of your choice. I upgraded mine to be covered with sausage gravy. Filling and delicious! Service can be a little slow, but it's honestly not a problem. When, I'm here I'm in the beautiful north woods of Wisconsin and have no problem enjoying the beautiful scenery with a second cup of coffee or bloody mary while waiting for food of this caliber to be prepared. Be aware they are cash only. Go here now!

Always a great breakfast! We've been coming here for quite awhile because it's simply one of the best breakfast places in the area. Generous portions, liberal amounts of hollandaise sauce, and the best thick sliced homemade bread anywhere. This place used to be a "well kept secret" but the secret is out! That being said, be prepared to wait because it's almost always busy, especially on weekends. No reservations, so make sure you sign in on the whiteboard upon your arrival. Great service from a fun staff with just the right amount of attitude! They have a wide selection of menu items, but I almost always get the Squirrel's Nest cuz it's so darned good! A variation of Eggs Benedict with homemade toast and chopped ham. You can also get this with crab or lobster if you're feeling really adventurous. The French toast and biscuits & gravy our friends ordered looked good too, but I'm sure I'll get the Squirrels Nest again next time! Love these guys, give them a shot!

Weedbed is amazing. Hollandaise sauce is to die for! Everything is made from scratch! Service is always good. Coffee endless.

An amazing local tradition- AWESOME food, day or night, awesome people. If you're in the area and you're eating anywhere else, you're fooling yourself and selling your family short!

Best breakfast in the northwoods. The french toast is crazy-good, but I am currently hooked on the Weedbed. I always bring friends here when they visit the Northwoods and it's the only place EVERYone always mentions after we get back they always mention Placid as being one of their faves. The serivce is always nice and attentive. given most of the time the place is packed (esp in those summer months) and it can get hectic. One thing for sure? Go hungry.

We came here after reading the reviews and it's every bit as good as everyone says. I had the French toast with fresh strawberries and it was the best I've ever had. The sausages are incredibly delicious and melt in your mouth. My partner had an omelette and bloody mary which were fantastic too. Only minor issue was the coffee was only so-so. You can tell they only use top grade ingredients and everything is fresh and homemade. Really the best breakfast we've had in a lonnnng time. And the service was friendly and helpful too. We want to come back and try the dinners. The menu looked delicious!

Great north woods casual ambience. Everything is cooked from scratch so be prepared to wait for a breakfast delight. We had a perch and a walleye breakfast. Only in northern Wisconsin. Love the décor. Keep up the good work, Denise.

Funny story. Our waitress was really grumpy as well. I ordered a custom breakfast, a cross between a weed bed and a garden bed, plus 4 vegetable ingredients versus the standard 3. Seemed to make both the waitress and the cook upset. It was awesome by the way. I joked that we should call it a "weedy garden". Seemed in line with the menu theme Still the cook came out to see me and and was clearly not happy and made it clear they would not be adding a "weedy garden" to the menu. So much for a Customer centric experience. I dare you to order a "weedy garden". You will love it, if not the help. They are down right nasty old ladies.

Had not been to Lake Placid in a long while, so went for breakfast when family were here. Food was great and so was the service. The cinnamon roll french toast was simply amazing! You can now buy bread and doughnuts to go! Write your name on the board and wait to be seated for a meal you will remember....

Great Breakfast place in the Northwoods. I highly recommend trying the bloody mary and the weedbed, a choice of egg, meat, cheese or sauce and toast over an order of hashbrowns. I recommend the scrambled with ham and hollandaise version! Great assortment of breakfast items and delicious pies to go! During event or holiday weekends get in the door before 830 am or be prepared to wait! Only wish they would get WIFI!

My hub's cousin warned us that sometimes the servers here get a little snippy with the customers and that one particular server was like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Oh great, all I could picture was someone taking my plate away and yelling "No Fish Fry for YOU!" if I didn't order correctly. The hubs got an eye-roll from the waitress when he started cracking unfunny jokes as small talk so I told him to shut-it because I was HUNGRY and wanted my Wisconsin Fish Fry!!! The eye-roll was really the worst of it, our waitress soon warmed up and smiled and even told us to come back for breakfast one of these days--which we happily did! This little place summed up Minocqua for me--cozy log cabin feel, nice old-timey bar (including the old-timey bartender), fish/fishing/lake decor on the walls, family friendly and price reasonable. The Friday Fish Fry was wonderful. There were a few different choices--blue gill, walleye and cod. We got the cod--battered and fried. Huge servings and served piping hot! The fish fry dinner came with a choice of potato (fries or baked) and the salad bar. The salad bar was really just green leafy lettuce, some carrots, olives, potato salad, coleslaw and 3 different kinds of dressings. But it was all fresh. We came back a few days later for the breakfast. They do something called the "muckraker". It's similar to a skillet. The base is hasbrown potatoes, topped with one or two eggs and then you get a choice of hollendaise sauce or sausage gravy to top it all off. Hollendaise sauce is like my crack so I had to order it. The dish was delish! The side of toast they serve with it is their home-made bread, fluffy and huge! The coffee was a little weak but still piping hot and plentiful. Thank goodness we walked from our cabin, we needed to really stretch our legs after that meal! There are some funny signs below the windows (do not play with the windows) and in the menu (please do not let your children play with the condiments on the table, they are for the customer's use). Let's just say I know the back-story behind those signs..the kid is not that bad, really.

Try the Friday Fish Fry, greatest potato pancakes, and baked beans you've ever had. The shrimp basket is to die for. Great Staff and cook. Give it a try this Friday.

This is no ordinary restaurant. When I told my friends I was taking the family to Minocqua, no less than four people told me that we HAD to go to the Lake Placid Inn. What a great place. The Owner, Denise, welcomed us when we came in and remembered our names for our entire visit. This is no ordinary restaurant. When we sat down, I immediately noted the "no credit cards" annotation on the menu. A bit surprised, I asked the owner where I could find an ATM... Her response, there isn't one near by, you can just bring the cash by later... and this was before we even ordered! We were told by our friends that the food was HUGE, so order light... and it was! We all ordered French Toast and a side of bacon. The French Toast came particularly highly reccomended due to it's size and the fact that's it's made from homemade bread. After ordering, Denise brought out some coffee and complimentary pastries. Next came the size-of-your-head French Toast (see included picture) and the thick cut bacon. SO GOOD!!! Even though it sounds like a small order, we couldn't even finish our meals. At the end, Denise took our six year old over the prize drawer for some free candy treats. The food was great, the prices were very reasonable and the personal touch service was to be comended. Ifyou are ever in the Northwoods, make sue not to miss this restaurant. And make sure to tell then the SCJ'ers from Racine sent you.

Best breakfast in the Northwoods!! I highly recommend the "Weedbed", and their bread is amazing! Get there early though, it fills up fast!

sssssshhhhhhh Don't tell any more people about this place! Best breakfast restaurant period. The food and the service are top notch. Gotta love a family owned and run business that takes pride in how hard they work to keep up with it's reputation. Just remember it's cash only. "The Placid" is a must every time we are in town!

Breakfast. 5 stars matched against anyone anywhere. A good and imaginative kitchen that is blessed with great ingredients (sausage!). They also really know how to bake. Bread. Pies. Very unpretentious service and an old north woods building disguise the greatness of the food.

This place is well known by the locals and visitors as a GREAT breakfast place. And they are all spot on! The weedbed dish (hash browns, eggs, and meat) is awesome and the toast is out of this world. I especially enjoyed the raisin bread toast every time! But their dinners are just as good as the breakfasts. When I gave my wife the choice of restaurants for our anniversary dinner, she didn't hesitate at all. This place beat out the lobster tails special at the casino...and beat it out they did! The owner took some extra time to ensure our anniversary dinner was extra special. That kind of care and personal attention make this an easy choice for every meal! Five Stars!

Just got back from the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin and need to update this little charm! As you know (if you are reading this, YOU know) that the Friday Fish Fry is a really big deal. We had FFF this year at the Inn and it was FANTASTIC. Three types of fish offered and they were very lightly breaded and delectable!!! Hey ... I can get deep fried cod at McD's ... this is the place to go - lake perch, bluegill and walleye. Pick one or do a triple-play! NEW this year is homemade pizza and my hubby is not a fish fan, so he had the pizza -- and just have to share that they do an amazing pizza! You know us "Chicagoans" are kind of fussy about our ZA ... the pizza is better than any pizza offered up in that area. Check 'em out and say Hi to Denise - she works long and hard and keeps that place around for us all!

Lake Placid Inn is one of our must stops when we are Up North. The French Toast is the best around. The American Fries with Onions are also amazing!
