We stopped in for lunch today to give it a try before prime tourist season. We were quickly seated and had chips and salsa in front of us in a flash. Our server took our orders and the food was out in under 10 minutes. The cheese enchilada and bean burrito on my lunch platter were both good; the rice is nothing special. Hubby enjoyed his chimichanga as well. Lunch was a bargain at under $13....we drink water, so that helps. The parking is somewhat limited, so during busy times there might be some difficulty there. Enjoy this newcomer to Minocqua!

You have good local Mexican Restaurants everywhere, but, El Mez is exceptional. You need to drive 1500 miles Southwest to get any more authentic. Outstanding Food and Service. Awesome decor and they give free shots of Monte Alban Mezcal with a lime all day. They truly know how to treat their guest. Drive WAY out of your way to try eat here. I love it. My wife loves it. My kids love it. Even my parents love it and drive 60 miles each way once a week to eat here. Thanks Mom and Dad for telling us about it!

We came for lunch. They weren't busy and we were seated and got our food quickly. The chimichanga was perfectly light and crispy without being oily. We liked the fajitas as well.

Food is very good. Service was quick and friendly. Love their shrimp enchiladas! It is a little loud. Tasty food and drinks are great (especially strawberry margaritas)

For being tucked away in the north woods, this place is just a good back home. I'm not a spicy guy, but I really enjoyed their salsa that is served with complimentary basket of chips. I ordered the Carne Asada, and my wife ordered the Chimichanga. Had a small issue with lipstick smeared on my plastic soda glass. But S... Happens, and life goes on. I would definitely go back, and recommend to a friend.

Waited a year and decided to give it another chance. NO. Service is fine, it's pretty and clean but the food is very very mediocre. If you like Taco Bell then you'll be fine (maybe not). On the way out the woman at the register (all the staff were wearing jeans and assorted tees or sweatshirts unrelated to the restaurant which seemed odd...) asked if everything was OK. I said well... the fajita/quesadilla had way too much cheese, it was drowning in cheese. She then informed me that quesadillas are made with cheese. I told her I was aware but this was a fajita quesadilla and that the cheese should not be so overwhelming that you could not taste the meat, onions and other ingredients. She continued to lecture me so I told her: "I get it, quesadillas are made with cheese, in fact "quesa" is Spanish for CHEESE. I've eaten in various Mexican restaurants around the USA and have travelled in Mexico and this is too much cheese. I even joked that just because it's Wisconsin don't need to overdo the cheese!" YIKES .." I think she might have just said, "Oh, sorry, I will tell the kitchen." I would never know if she did or didn't.

Do NOT eat here!!!! Order a mango margarita. There were bugs in it. It's obviously a mix and they don't check it. I never drank it and I waited over 15 minutes for a manager who "wasn't there." He was "sick" and no manager on site. Blamed on "well, you were outside." I never drank it and noticed it the MINUTE I looked. Salsa gross...tasted like ketchup. We ate 2 bites of food before I got the second margarita and it was below par. Gross.

The place had a colorful, fun atmosphere when my family and I walked in. I thought that it was a little cool when they had Mexican sodas on the menu. Our waitress took a little while but I thought that was ok. My kids ordered a Mexican soda each. "Very delicious" they both described the soda. It's very sweet if I do say so myself. My wife and I both ordered the reg. margarita, that was also quite sweet. It could use another shot of tequila BTW. Anyway, we ordered the nachos and they were decent. Our waitress took a LONG time again. We ordered food, was also decent. Overall the place was fun, food was decent, prices are nice, very bad service.

El Mez is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Minocqua, Wisconsin. We have been coming here since they first opened, the quality of food is still the same, and, you still get a complimentary shot of Mezcal! It is very reasonably priced, so if you are in the mood for great Mexican food, you should go.

The food was good, if I ordered something with beef. The chicken in my enchiladas was tasteless. They did make me a non-alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri and it was very tasty. Service was good and the food came out quickly.

It was typical Americanized Mexican. I would go again since it is quite cheap at a slower hour. It was so busy at dinner the service was not good.

My food was good the only things I would complain about is that the music was really loud was hard to talk to anyone in our party. And thought my portion was a tad small. But, everything was good. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

This place was delicious. The best meal we had in town - fast, huge portions, cheap and super tasty. I will definitely be back.

I am from Chicago so let me just say I have eaten a lot of authentic Mexican food and this is not it. The food here is very very bland. I tried this place twice and ordered different items. Their carne asada is nothing but a very thin flavorless piece of sandwich steak. Carne asada is supposed to be skirt steak. It was also so tough I could barely chew it. Next I tried quesadillas and chicken tacos. Both very bland, no flavor. The chicken tacos were dripping large amounts of water. Maybe if you live in a rural area and do not know what real Mexican food is supposed to taste like you might give this place a good review, but i don't know how anyone could rave about bland food. The price also definitely does not match the quality of the food. They charge a lot for the poor quality food they serve.

Location? Who cares ! This place was amazing for being "up north" I had no expectations but felt like Mexican. I ordered fajitas that came HOT AND FRESH . No canned ingredients and authentic. Waitstaff and manager were great to.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
