Wow, we heard a lot about this place before we got there, so our expectations were high, and we're sorta use to disappointment where we live, this place exceeded all our expectations and then some! We'd like to KEEP our waitress Christine and have her all to ourselves, she the best server I have ever had! Super friendly, great advice, knows the menu and knows what she's talking about! Food was amazing! I wish we had a designated driver! From the sound of it, the drinks sound awesome! My advice would be to get as many dips and mayo's as possible, they really make an excellent meal even more amazing. Matt, they don't have wi-fi because they want to feed the masses, not the beat necks that surf for hours. Go to Starbucks or the library Mr. Taste buds. They don't open till 4pm, they take everything except American Express, there's only one table that seats 8 or 10, so, not too sure about the party option. We live by Santa Barbara, wish we could take this whole place with Christine home with us!!

We had Zanzibar Shrimp Pasta and Asian Shrimp and Pork and we liked both of them - my husband liked that his Asian Shrimp and Pork was a little spicy. It is very Noisy when busy but interesting place. Salad with Thai dressing very good - loved the unique bread Very good, interesting food, better than I expected to find in Menominee Nice friendly service

One of my favorites! I've been in many eclectic restaurants in my days throughout the country. Zanzibar ranks up with the best I've been in! Lucky me its right in Menomonie! Their creativity shines both on their food menu and their bar menu! The atmosphere is great, too. The owners are often there....not some out of state owner who only considers profits. They keep employees a long time - a good sign employees are taken care of well. If you love unique food, drinks and environment, you'll love Zanzibar!

I had Asian pork and shrimp. My wife had Zanzibar shrimp and pasta. Mine had some zest to the taste. Both very good Server was young and inexperienced opening wine but very nice and knew the menu well When busy it gets very noisy. This place was a pleasant surprise to find and the price was reasonable.

Such a great great place!! I wish I could give it 6 stars! The service, bartenders and servers are the best! They remember our names and what we usually enjoy for a drink, and they're very personable! The Mangotini is without a doubt my all-time favorite martini! The carbonara is my favorite dish too! So delicious and satisfying! My only gripe about this place would be that the owners (there 90% of the times we've been in) have never once come over to say hello (possibly thank you) and ask us how dinner was, even though we know all the employees and are obviously frequent patrons. At least they hire great employees!

LOVE Zanzibar! Great place to come after a long week at work. Whether you're coming to eat or just to drink, you won't be disappointed! If you're dining on the weekend you probably want to make a reservation as it's a smaller dining area. They have a very extensive drink menu with a nice selection of beer, wine, martinis and specialty cocktails. The "bar menu" as well as the full menu offers some great options sure to appeal to whatever you're looking for! Definitely a must in the town.

I tried Zanzibar for the first time this summer and was pleasantly surprised. This is the kind of establishment you'd expect in downtown Minneapolis, not "downtown" Menomonie. The decor is wonderful and it has a great atmosphere. There is bar seating along with booths and tables. The martini and wine list is long and is congealed to match their menu. I had some buttery potatoes and sirloin steak and it was delicious. I would give my dish a 4 out of 5 overall , though it didn't fill me up. Although, I was quite hungry that day! The entire meal cost me $20 for a small entree and a soda. Pretty pricey, but that is to be expected with this kind of establishment. The reason it only gets three stars is I tried e-mailing the owners with a suggestion to provide wireless Internet. It makes sense to me for Zanzibar to offer such service. I received no reply from them and they don't have wireless Internet offered. If you encourage customers to contact you about suggestions or compliments, the least you can do is respond. It's good customer service. They dropped the ball there, therefore, I'm not as likely to return. Bottom line: Tasty food, Pricey, Many top-shelf alcoholic choices to match your meal.

Highly recommended. We sat at the bar. Comfortable. Really good knowledgable bartenders and everyone at the bar was very friendly. Imaginative menu, well executed. Really liked the chocolate french fries, which we had as desert.

Holy martini's batman....talk about choices. We enjoyed Kristen's smiling face at the bar and the food was different than any other restaurant around (in a good way). Quaint little place, but a definite stop if you're ever in Menomonie.

What a surprise! Not familiar with the area we sought the wisdom of the Yelp. I have never experienced in a small town setting, the quality, freshness of ingredients and unique flavors that our group had tonight. We started with the smoked fish tacos and the sweet potato fries with jerk mayo. The smoked fish tacos were fresh and had a wonderful sweet corn salsa in what appeared fresh made and crispy taco shells. The sweet potato fries were incredible on their own but the jerk mayo took this appetizer to another level . I had the perfectly prepared roasted salmon with garlic mashed and a veggie medley. The veggie medley hade a wonderful spiced broth at the bottom of the bowl. My one associate, who is a vegan, not only was excited about all of the choices from the Global section, he claimed the spice combination the dish was cooked in was unique and very good. Our other friend had what looked like a thin crust pizza, but so much better. Called a Lahvosh, he has a pepperoni, basil, goat cheese, tomato combo that came out in a 15 x15 square. It was so good, he almost finished it all. Spectacular fresh ingredients and great preparation make this a place you want to go to weekly. The service was at the same level as the food. Thank you Zanzibar for treating 3 guys from Atlanta and Chicago to a top level dining experience. Daryl Bash Orland Park, IL

Such an eclectic place! The artfully decorated bar was just as enjoyable as the food! We each had the Lahvosh, an Armenian flatbread. My hubby had his with mango, mushrooms, peppers, goat cheese, and jalapeño. He loved it! I had goat cheese, roasted garlic, onion, basil, and tomato. Too yummy! We had the sweet potato fries with jerk mayo (I don't like sweet potatoes but these were awesome). And spinach artichoke dip was piping hot and tasty. Hubby loved the mojito! Kristen was a fabulous, friendly waitress. It all made for a pretty fantastic bday dinner. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town!

(+) Martinis - Lots of options... many different ingredients, it can be hard to decide which drink to order! (+) Food - I don't remember what my main course was (no, I did not drink that much) but we did get the choc sea salt fries as an appetizer. It was interesting but probably wouldn't order again (but glad to have tried it) (+) Atmosphere - Sat at the bar, good mix of people, not too loud at the time, a little surprising to stumble on a place like this. I'd go back again next time I'm in the area.

Three for me today I wanted to like it more Marginal three-four The food here was more interesting than great. Got the Chocolate Sea Salt French Fries for an appetizer. Never seen that combination before. I think I would have liked the fries better plain or with ketchup. Not horrible together, but nothing special. For my entrée, I got the build your own lavosh. Went with bacon, pepperoni, artichokes, onions and banana peppers. Don't think I have ever seen lavosh on the menu anywhere else before. The thing was huge, but it was pretty much just a thin crust pizza with no sauce. This place is close to a four because of the bar menu. If you like martinis, you will like it here. Quite extensive selection. Had one mangotini and one mojito (no judging). Four on the drinks. Only seven beers on tap, though.

Yelpers once again come through. We had been on the road for awhile and needed a nice dinner. Zanzibar filled the spot. Trout was farm raised and delicious on a bed of perfected vegetables. My husband had the shrimp on pasta and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was adequate. Food coming out of the kitchen was a little slow. Noise level gradually increased as more patrons arrived. Definitely worth a visit.

Went here on a date with my husband. We were visiting from out of town. There's only street parking, with coin-operated meters. Come equipped. I checked out Zanzibar's website and was put off by the "self-taught chef" comment - it sounds like something out of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. But we really enjoyed ourselves here. On a Wednesday evening, the place was not crowded and our waitress was quick and knowledgeable. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer - a safe-sounding choice. It was much richer than your average chain recipe, with a bit of a spicy kick at the end. The crackers served with it were delicious on their own, and the waitress was happy to bring us more when we ran out. We ordered our entrees from the bar menu - my husband got chicken sliders and I got chicken masala. The portions were larger than we expected. The chicken sliders were very tasty and savory and the chicken was cooked perfectly! My masala was perfect, especially in an area bereft of Indian restaurants. I thought it was a little strange that the recipe included olives, but it was delicious. We were really impressed with the long list of cocktails, and each had a mojito (his was pineapple.) Big glass, tasted good. We couldn't stop talking about this place for the remainder of our visit and hope to send many family and friends their way. Will definitely return someday.

Calamari was great. My wife got tenderloin and shrimp. It was okay. I got ribeye and it was nothing special. I will go back to try something else but it might take awhile. Servings aren't very large for the cost. Friendly staff.

The staff really knows they stuff!! Great bar selection. The server was able to identify the items on the menus which could be changed to accommodate my vegan needs. The items were able to be modified as they are all made to order. The food was excellent!! Service was excellent. Highly recommended.

They have the BEST martinis and mojitos around the area. I can't think of a place in the Twin Cities that can beat them even. And they are very affordable!! I was there last weekend and I had an amazing martini (Strawberry Seduction I believe: vodka, strawberry puree, balsamic vinegar and black pepper) that was only $6 and was super delicious. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff is awesome. Definitely recommended if you happen to be in the Menomonie area! I haven't eaten there in a long long time but I ordered a mushroom appetizer there about three years ago and it was unbelievably good!
