Solea is an AMAZING place. Very inexpensive, there are two locations, but the one in Menasha is my favorite. Though sometimes its a 30-45 min wait. The atmosphere is better, though the other place off of 41S has a lot more seating, and a real nice area with real furniture to sit and socialize. Monday through Thursday margaritas are buy one, get your 2nd free!! And good margaritas too. The food is out of this world. The chicken mole burrito is by far my favorite. And the staff is VERY friendly. This is one of the best places in the Fox Valley area by far! I can not believe no one has added it yet.

Thursday night dinner early at 5:30 no wait and no crowd. The server was always there when needed, excellent margaritas no big ice chunks. We ordered fajitas for two. Server said it was enough for four but I think 4 adults and two kids could have eaten it. Huge sizzling platter for $28 add the drinks and an appetizer for $42 dinner with leftovers for a day or two. Steak was tender and juicy. Tasted great. The chips are free and fabulous I didn't ask what they cook (vegtable or canolla etc) them in because I couldn't stop eating them. Good stuff.

This wasn't my first time eating at a Solea, however my first visit to this location. While small, the atmosphere is comfortable. Our easier was very good. Attentive, polite, and quick. We ordered the flautas and a combination dinner that included a cheese enchilada and a chili relleno. I also elected to add a side of soup for an extra $2.00. The soup was very tasty. It was a poblano pepper soup and had a generous amount of chicken and avocado in it as well. The flautas were great. The combination dinner was good, however I was disappointed with the Chili Relleno. It turned out to be a variation of such; filled with beef, onion, seasonings, raisins, and almonds typed with a small amount of cheese sauce. The chili was not battered. The menu portion for the combination dinner did not indicate this difference, and in fact offered no description other than "Chili Relleno". This was my only disappointment, and I'm sure many love this variation, however I don't like raisins and wouldn't have ordered it had I known this. I did request to look at the menu again and verified that I had not missed a description. I even asked staff, but apparently this is the only way they make it. I still plan on returning in the future, however I will not be ordering the same thing.

The food was very good and it seems as though the chefs take pride in the way it was presented. Our plates all featured colorful garnishes and interesting touches that you don't often see in standard Tex-Mex restaurants. The menu is pretty broad and will have something for almost every taste. Service was absolutely great with drinks and chips always full and prompt delivery of both our appetizers and entrees. Even though the room was pretty full with the lunch crowd, we never felt rushed or ignored.

This place is a giant Mexican disappointment... if you're looking for Mexican. If you're looking for some type of fast-food-americanized-mexican than you're headed to the right place.

I believe Solea to be the best version of "Fox Valley Mexican" in..well, the Fox Valley. The restaurant is ti-ny but that is part of its neighborhood charm. What sets Solea apart from the rest is exceptional service... ALWAYS! and an actual honest to goodness real margarita. I am not talking about blended fruit flavored foo-foo here. If you are a margarita connoisseur like I am, you will be hard pressed to find a margarita in the valley that isnt a thick neon yellow syrup poured from a plasitc bottle. Solea's are the real deal and awesome! Also, do yourself a favor and start out with the cheese dip. Stick to your ribs good!

This place is for the big eater. The food is always hot and tasty and the service is friendly. If you love Mexican good, do yourself a favor and punch in your navigation for this location. It's worth your drive.

I've eaten here three times over a year and a half (Hey, I don't live in town...). Solea has been solid *every* time! I really have never had *anything* not be up to par here. Chimichangas, burritos, enchiladas... Their chips and salsa (and bean dip) are great. Everything, really. If you're in Appleton, WI, seek this location of Solea out!

Solea has the best Mexican food around. I love this place. You get so much food for little money. The Authentic steak tacos are mmm mmm good. Free chips, salsa and bean dip appetizer every time you sit down. If you like Mexican food than your going to love Solea!

The food is ok and I had decent experiences prior (nothing special). But today they messed up my order and instead of apologizing they blamed it on me and told me that I ordered something else. I phoned in a to go order and asked for the tacos de calle which is 3 steak tacos. When I clarified and said 3 steak tacos I guess he took that as the taco trio which is something different. When I picked it up I said that wasn't what I ordered and then they told me I would have to wait 20 minutes for the right order (which is funny cause even I can make tacos in less time). When I questioned that he said they had other orders ahead of mine making it obvious they would not go out of their way in any way to make it right. The manager didn't care and seemed to find it amusing that I was upset and even smiled and laughed. There are plenty of other decent Mexican restaurants in the area that actually care about customer satisfaction so I guess I'll go there next time.

Worst Mexican restaurant in Appleton. We went here purely out of convienence and will not make that mistake again. Food was subpar and fried ice cream was missing one key step, the frying! Instead they rolled it in cereal, are you kidding me?!?!?! Save your evening and make your own Mexican.

Everyone that works there is super friendly. Best house margaritas in the valley, BOGO every Monday and Thursday. I go there 2 or 3 times a week

One of my pet peeves about Mexican restaurants is that often the black and/or refried beans and rice side dishes are made early in the day and kept in a steam table. Thus resulting in stale side dishes that get more stale as the day goes on. We went to Solea for lunch and the burrito I ordered was excellent. The chicken in the burrito was tender and very juicy. The beans and rice were fresh. I'd be curious to go back at dinner time to see if everything was as fresh as it was at lunchtime. Nevertheless, I am a fan. Recommended.

I have eaten at Solea's in Menasha many many times. There have been a few things that I was disappointed in (personal taste most times) but overall their food is great and they serve the best margaritas in town. Yes, it's crowded, noisy, and a hole-in-the-wall location. But it's one of our favorite places and the owner and manager work as hard as any of their employees. The food is Veracruz-based cuisine for the most part and is authentic, abundant, and tasty. I recommend you read the menu through including the insert and try something more than just ordinary standby dishes. Last time we went we had them make Arrachera Fajitas for two and it was so flavorful! We could have fed another person off of it without anyone going hungry. Be ready to park on the street on a busy night: that parking lot is small.

My sister and I were craving for some Mexican food and decided to come here. It was my first time trying this place out. This location is a lot smaller but still very nice inside. The day we came they were not busy at all, so it was nice. Like many Mexican restaurants they serve you chips and salsa. I ordered the tacos al pastor which was average. The meat didn't have much flavor including the salsa that came with. I'll have to say I prefer the tacos at Mr. Tacos (Mrs. Fajitas) even though I believe they are now closed, which is sad! Anyways, our server was super nice and I would definitely like to come back to try something else :)

Delicious food. Good portions! Interesting menu items, not just classic Mexican menu. A lot of fish and seafood choices.Definitely recommend to try

On another leg of our getaway, my wife and I found ourselves in the Appleton area and turned to Yelp! for a restaurant recommendation. For whatever reason, Mexican seemed intriguing tonight, so we found Solea near the Fox Cities Mall. We were seated quickly, and we ordered a couple of Margaritas - very tasty. Appropriately, World Cup soccer was being aired on every television -- and telecast in Spanish nonetheless! Perfect ambiance. My wife ordered the sizzling fajita salad and I ordered the simple beef burrito. Both were served in less than ten minutes. And both were excellent. Would give five stars, but I am a newby, and I don't know what five stars looks like yet. Great place. Enjoy!

AWFUL HORRIBLE NO GOOD VERY BAD! You are better off getting Mexican food at Taco Bell. (Actually that would be a treat compared to this restaurant) the dinner I got was tasteless and dull, and gave me horrible stomach pain.... Hmmmm.... Also the fried ice cream was literally ice cream rolled in raisin bran.... RAISIN BRAN! What in the world?! I can't even...

Not real impressed. Chips and salsa were good...but you can't really screw it up. 2 servers came to the table for drinks. Once we got the drinks, it took awhile for one of them to come back to take our order. Food was ok. Ground beef in tacos wasn't totally cooked through. Lots of chicken in the fajita. Lots of food in general and it was just ok. Waitress refilled drinks, but never asked how things were or if we wanted dessert. Took awhile to get the bill. Not much else to say. There is better Mexican in Appleton than this.

Very tasty. Salsa cup is smaller than the chips. I see what everyone is saying about the location and it's true that if it's cold out, you want to sit away from the door. They go a little heavy with cheese, it was on everything. All in all it was tasty food at a good price with good service.

I judge a Mexican restaurant by two things: Chile Relleno and Tamale. I had both at Solea and was blown away by the Chile Relleno. It was top notch. My only suggestion is to order the sauce on the side. The white cheese sauce totally detracts from this fabulous dish- a mild chile stuffed with ground beef, onion, garlic, green olive, almonds and raisins. AMAZING! Not so much the tamale. Too much masa. The shredded pork was high quality in the tamale, just not enough of it. My husband had the pork Chimi and Chicken fajitas (what he judges a Mexican restaurant by) and felt the same. Good. A solid B minus. We will be back to try some other items on the extensive menu. Ok, on to the location... parking is odd. There are 4 or 5 spots out front, otherwise you're parking on the street. The entrance is on the side of the building and you walk into the bar and dining room. Yikes! Friendly staff greeted us right away from the other side of the dining room and guided us to a booth. We went on a Sunday night (usually a slow night in Fox Valley) and the place was packed. We were seated in a booth right away, but if it had been any busier, I would have left. This location is awkward and tiny, but kinda cool for those same reasons. If you want more space and easier parking, there are two other locations. The house margs are good- I'd like to try some of the specialty ones. All in all, we will be back. On a slow night.

Had some chile con queso dip with 3 different cheeses to start and all was well. Then tried some macho nachos with extra cheese and jalapenos and that is when the trouble started. Barely made it to the bathroom and it was full. If you are going to serve this kind of food, you need to have adequate restroom facilities for customers.

Delicious! Food comes out in massive quantities no matter what you order. There is plenty to share or take home for later. We had 9 people in our party and the service was excellent. We ordered the large appetizer sampler thinking there would be enough quesadillas, taquitos, and flautas for the kids, it was heavy on the nachos and light on the rest. 2 quesadilla wedges, 1 taquitos cut in half & 1 flauta cut in half. A great place to grab a bucket of beer and good food!

am a authentic Mexican looking for the real thing, what I found here was eeeh.. too wow! we went with our kids and ordered chicken nuggets which was made from real chicken-thumbs up, I ordered the carnitas which was eeeh, not bad but nothing to brag about and I have been searching for the elusive carnitas for the last three years, my wife ordered the mexi version of paella, whomever cooks this dish needs an award, it was one of the best seafood dishes I and my wife have ever ate, the shrimp was on point as was the scallops and mussels, only the octopus was rubbery probably added too soon, but rite spice and rite flavor. so pick this dish not the carnitas. service was slow but food can compensate.

Hmm, this place totally missed the mark. I am reviewing the Appleton, near the mall, location. I had the tortilla soup which had vegetables in it. I learned I prefer plain, traditional tortilla soup. I had the enchilada cremosas - and did not taste poblano peppers. This place is not "authentic" but I can see how it appeals to lots of people. I doubt I will return unless someone else wants to go.

Chips and Sala were ok I had the choptle enchiladas. It was OK. I wasn't blown away. I had the taco soup. This was not good. Looks like dishwasher. It's a taco drown in water. I won't order it again I was also disappointed that they don't have horchata.

Please note that the Solea I'm reviewing is the one in Menasha. My fiance has been to the other one and he wasn't impressed whatsoever. I saw on yelp that the Menasha one had good reviews and the other one didn't, so I talked him into going to the Menasha one for another try. We both loved our food and service at that one. Our service was great. The food was excellent, and portions were huge. Everything came out quickly (chips, drinks, foods, check), and we were checked on by at least two different people, to make sure everything was good. It was SO good. Now I know where I'll be taking friends when they come visit from out of town.

Food, drinks, service and price were all excellent. We went to the one in Menasha. Loved it and will be going back. There salsa and guacamole were homemade, oh so tasty. Large portions.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
