    This place is just real and relish, buttered buns and just fatty goodness. My mom was a little kid- like the1950s-when she first started coming here, its heritage. Not much of the originals are left in that area. I like it. Tastes like the oven that they cook it in. How do u go wrong. Its fresh, homemade heritage. Bomb diggity .... Wish they served beer, but, hey- I'm a capitalist-thinkin they could make more $ and what's better than a burger n a beer? But...this place is straight tradition! I'll take it O:-)

    Don't let the name fool you. No barbecue here. Just charbroiled items. No fries only chips too. Burger and shake were tasty, (liked the grilled bun) but nothing special. I liked the quaint building with the bar and table seating. Being up from Houston I like to try local places. I'd come back but wouldn't go out of my way.

    A must stop when in the area. Mickey Lu's is an authentic 50's throw back with a juke box stocked with oldies along with vintage decor to keep you interested. But the main reason people have been going to Mickeys for over 70 years... the burgers and malts are excellent!

    Bonafide. Legit. Charcoal and grease fire flavor from the backyard. Chocolate malts and Americana. Random drive-by discovery while roadtripping with my daughter. So glad we stopped. Honestly - there was no way we weren't gonna stop. I mean, have you looked at this place? Tuck in. It ain't fancy, but it is perfect.

    Family trip to the "beach" last Sunday. We decided this place was too interesting to pass up. We had never heard of Mickey-Lu's before, so we had no expectations. From the moment we stepped inside, we were all enamoured with the place. First of all, we're suckers for old stuff, and right down to the countertops, Mickey'Lu-s is a gem. Juke box, malts, towels in the bathroom, counter with stools... this place hasn't been updated since 1972 and thank God for that! It was awesome and charming and exactly what you'd hope for in an old fashioned burger and malts shop. Food was delish. We will be back.

    Don't be confused by BBQ on the sign, there's no shredded beef here. I drove past Mickey-Lu's on UP trips for almost two decades before stopping in for the first time last year. I'm a big fan. The burgers are not huge so you may want to get two (or try the brat!) but they are cooked right in front of your face on an old charcoal grill. They don't offer fries or other sides but you have to get a hand-scooped malt as well.

    If what you are craving is a burger done right this is the place. The burger I had was perfect. From the nice grill flavor on the fresh meat to the nice bun and condiments, everything was about as good as you can get. The burgers are not large so you may want a few. Great malts also which go really well with the burgers.

    One of the worst meals I've ever had. To start, please don't assume that I am angry. I'm actually having a pretty good day, this meal just wasn't part of it. 1) The inside is tiny, and poorly planned. The initial whimsy of feeling like a giant quickly wears off when you realize you are almost touching everyone around you, and the aisles are jjjuuusssttt wide enough for one person. 2) The staff...not super friendly. They weren't disrespectful, or mean, or really anything. They don't seem overly happy to be there, they don't really talk to you. You just give your order and a little while later food shows up. 3) The food...just ugh. They basically serve ketchup on a warm kaiser role. I won't even get these "burgers" the respect of calling them "burgers" because there is so little meat on these damn things I can't even guarantee you it was cow. The pairing of the kaiser role just aides insult to injury. The last thing this ounce of (hopefully) cow meat needs is a big tough bun to cover up any hint of a flavor it may or may not have. Horrible pairing. The shake was fine...nothing special. 4) There is no credit card machine, but there is an ATM that will charge you $2.50, so..thanks for that. Then you just leave. Two other irritants about this place: 1) The name has BBQ in it, and they don't serve BBQ of any kind..so that's dumb. 2) A lot of people are calling this place "traditional". The only way this place is "traditional" is if the period they're trying to emulate is the Great Depression. Seriously, I see little town bars and restaurants on the Food Network all the time and I think "Man, that place looks excellent! They're so laid back and chill and the food is so different and special! Awesome!" This place is the opposite of that. Don't bother coming here. It's a boring...boring...boring meal for too high a price in a place with absolutely no redeeming qualities.

    We were passing through town for a night and looking for a restaurant for dinner. We were looking casual, and didn't see great reviews of other places in the area until we came across Mickey-Lu-Bar-B-Q. Some of the reviews talked about the best burger people have ever eaten, so we gave it a try. Extremely disappointed. I can appreciate a really small Menu and also understand having tradition, but the Burgers (the Double Cheese Burger) was tiny, was basically thrown at us wrapped in just paper, and I tasted more Mustard and Ketchup than I did burger. We thought about ordering a second round just to fill up, but decided to just cut our losses and call it a day. If you are looking for a super fast option and like the old diner feel, I wouldn't talk you out of this, but expect a burger that is lower quality than McDonalds.

    The hours for Sunday are 9am to 10pm! This is my second visit and it was just as good this time as last time. Tried the milkshakes and they are just as awesome as the burgers. The place was packed with people, but it didn't slow down the exceptional staff. The burgers are so old fashioned and just perfect.

    It was really hard to decide how many stars to rate this. I have been trying to go here for months but every time I pass by they are closed. Mickey Lu's is a tradition when crossing from the U.P. to Wisconsin for most. It has been open for over 50 years and has not changed. I was recommended to get the classic. Two burgers, a bag of chips, and a chocolate malt. $8.50 Let's do a break down. Burgers ~ Fresh meat daily. Everything is cook over charcoal, yes that's right, charcoal. You can get the works. Ketchup mustard and pickles. Burgers were tiny. A little bigger than a slider. They toast the bun on the charcoal too so it has that crunch. Not bad all in all. Malt ~ Chocolate, strawberry or vanilla. Fresh ice cream, none of that soft serve. Small, but oh so tasty. Bag of chips ~ They don't have fries because, well, they don't have friers. Different, but don't mess with tradition right? So why three stars? Well despite the name, there was no BBQ. That was a big turn off for me. When I heard the rave about the place and the charcoal grill I was stoked for some awesome BBQ. Also, it was a tad pricy for the size. Am I paying for the charcoal, for the tradition, or just because I can? I'm not sure. Micky Lu's is by no means a bad place to go, just not something I'm gonna put on my must stop list. Give it a try and see if it becomes one of your traditions.

    So we thought we would give this place a try. It says BBQ, but as you probably already read on the other reviews, the only BBQ in here is the way they grill their burgers, over a charcoal grill. The place is small, first thing you'll notice if it is busy, no place to sit. Like some of the other reviews, the staff isn't very inventive. They just assume that you know their system and how everything works. Someone sitting at a table was kind enough to give us some advice on how & what to order. If it wasn't for that, we would of been lost. They advised us to order the double cheese burger, because their burgers are small. We went with the single cheeseburger anyway & realized that we had screwed up when we got our burgers. Again, chips, no fries. I am not a big fan of fries, but I am also not a fan of a small bag of chips. The shakes are great, but small. Food tastes good, just small portions.

    It must be nice to be so successful that you can ration your product to customers. We called in to order 9 burgers and were told that they wouldn't take the order because they were getting busy. We then walked in with the order and were limited to ONLY FOUR. Is this where the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld ended up? "No burgers for you!" I wonder what would have happened were three customers to walk in and order three burgers each? The food is good, but not THAT GOOD, I'll probably not be back.

    My favorite burger place in the nation. Only get here once or twice a year, so it's a must stop. They grill the yummy rolls and flame kissed burgers. Add a pat of butter and voila!

    In the process of telling a friend about Mickey Lu's, I decided to look up my review. What in the world? I haven't written a review after all these years? I've been visiting Mickey Lu's for....forever I guess. I grew up in the UP, lived in WI for 20 years and now, having moved to TN about 7 years ago; Mickey Lu's is way up near the top of the list for places we have to visit on trips up north. Charcoal grill...burgers that aren't as big as your head perfectly grilled and served on the tastiest bun ever. With a nice little pat of butter to show they love you. The brats are awesome too. The shakes! Old fashioned wonderfulness. Delicious pie. Friendly, albeit very busy staff. This place is a treasure and if they ever change a thing it will be a pity! Mickey Lu's anecdotes: We lived near Appleton and my son turned 18. For his birthday dinner he wanted Mickey Lu's and we met the UP relatives there. We nearly filled up the place but nobody wanted to miss it! One day we arrived on "Onion Day". Our eyes were watering because they were chopping a week's worth of onions but we stuck it out. It's that good. Warning: Don't eat your burgers with the works while riding in a dark car. They are so juicy that you will look like you've been shot or suffered some kind of injury when you arrive at your destination due to the delicious grease and ketchup dripping on your shirt. Not that it happened to me. Will someone send me some Mickey Lu's? I'll send you some TN BBQ in return!

    Lots of bad reviews for not having fries or because they thought the barbecue grill cooking the sign has is for bbq sauce, and it's not. Big shout out to the guy who whined about yelp having the wrong hours and gave them a one star. Also, closed every Monday. This is a step back in time. Retro juke, bar and booth seating with tables. Best effing burgers in Wisconsin. A grill toasted zemal roll, pat of butter, and charcoal smoked juicy and dripping burger. About the same size as a burger as McDonald's with tons more flavor, quality, and taste. Every time I come back to Chicago I have friends who ask me to bring back burgers. Record is 26 burgers, still Luke warm once I was back to Chicago. Stop in. Enjoy the original sixty year old decor and look. Read the newspaper articles on the walls. Mmmm. I'm an hour from marinette and my girlfriend and I are going to get them tonight.

    I feel bad for all the reviewers on here giving this place a poor rating. Poor folks have no soul. Dry burgers?? Is that guy crazy? MELTED BUTTER oozes out and drips down your elbows ya clown! I grew up eating here and I now live on the far west coast. I would be willing to pay large sums of money for just a bite of a double cheese right about now. Also I'd like to point out that any bad review from someone "on their way up north from Chicago" is completely irrelevant.

    Burgers served with a side of nostalgia After many trips to the Marinette area, I finally decided to pay Mickey-Lu's a visit. As I soaked in the experience, it dawned on me that the burgers are not what make Mickey-Lu's unique. Don't get me wrong, the burgers are good, but they are far from transcendent. But I could fire up the charcoal grill and turn out a comparable product. As I smelled the burgers cooking over the grill and heard old Johnny Cash tunes drifting the jukebox speakers (3 plays for a quarter), I was conjured up boyhood memories of watching my dad man the grill during those summer cookouts many, many years ago. I'm sure many other patrons experience the same thing and that is what makes Mickey-Lu's the institution that it has become. For you Man Men fans reading this review, cue up Don's speech to the Kodak execs in "The Carousel" episode where he waxes poetically about the power of nostalgia. He articulates this thought much better than I can. ( youtube.com/watch?v=suRD… ) As for the food, the butterscotch malt that I ordered was very good. It was creamy, but not too rich - a nice balance of butterscotch and malt flavorings. The 12 oz. size was perfect; it allowed me to enjoy the rest of the meal without getting uncomfortably full. As for the double cheeseburger, the patties are thinner than I prefer and a little dry. However, they were well prepared and full of charcoal flavor. And I thoroughly enjoyed the ketchup, onions, pickles and butter that topped the burger. While the faded counter tops gave away the age of the building, the restaurant itself it spotless. My server quickly took my order and served up the wicked good malt, but that was the last I saw her until she dropped off the check. I came right before the lunch crowd started to roll in, so she had her hands full dealing with the crush of hungry customers, but I ended up filling my shot-sized water glass a couple times after I polished off my malt. I enjoyed my experience at Mickey-Lu's, though it was more for the setting than it was for the food. But for just $7, my stomach was full and my soul was refreshed, and that's a pretty good deal these days.

    I am pissed that the yelp app said this place was open 9:30am - 11:30am today, we specifically call this place out as a meeting locations so we can eat quick before meeting our family. We got there and the sign on the door said open at 11am on Sunday. Now I am hungry and mad!

    We stopped here on our way up north and decided to give it a try since I've always heard people talk about it. I was excited because I figured this could be a new place to stop on our trips up north. We will be looking for a new place to stop. We were not impressed. The staff wasn't friendly and ignored us when we sat at the counter. They could have acknowledged us and said they'd be with us soon, but after waiting a while, we finally had to grab their attention to get waited on. Come on guys, greeting people when they walk into your establishment should be etiquette 101!! They didn't serve French fries, only bagged chips. Our burgers were cold when they arrived and there wasn't any sign of anything bar-b-que related in the restaurant. This place was very tiny and cramped and very unimpressive. We will be passing them by on our trips up north.

    Wow!!! the burger was juicy and had that flavor of real home cook burgers, not that Micky D's crap. With everything on it, I was amazed at the fact fact that it was so delicious, especially since I dont do mustard. The only problem is the patties were so small, even for the double. For almost 5 on a burger, I think it deserved more meat. Oh well. I am going there again today and probably once a week until i get burnt out from this burger

    Barebones place with really good burgers and nice, friendly people. Only takes cash or a local check, however. I felt as if I had entered a time warp, and that's a pretty good thing. I was torn. Part of me wanted to give it five stars, but it didn't quite live up to the hype. Everybody at my client's office was telling me that it would be an epoch-shattering hamburger experience. Wasn't quite that. But definitely worth the trip.

    Let me just put it to you this way: I don't eat meat. Unless I am in Marinette, in which case I HAVE to go to Mickey-Lu's and get a couple cheeseburgers and a chocolate malt. Mickey-Lu's is a very basic place with a basic menu; they don't even serve fries. But they know how to make burgers! Hands down, the best I have ever had. If you are ever in the area, be sure to stop in.

    Mickey Lu's hasn't changed over the years. They have always used a charcoal grill to cook the burgers on and the malt machine is around the corner from the grill. The menu is posted on a board to the left of the counter seats. This place is wonderful. It's not a replica of days gone by, it's an original. The burgers are excellent; between the char grilled beef and the deliciously soft, buttered bun, I have to have two. And I have to top it off with a chocolate malt. It's a perfect meal in a perfect place from another time in history.

    Having grown up in this area I know how good the dripping-in-butter cheeseburgers and chocolate malts are. They are so good that I will occasionally drive the 300+ miles round-trip from Milwaukee just to pig out here. It's worth every mile. I eat there twice the day I arrive, stay over, and then eat there again on my way out of town the next day. It's not nostalgia that makes the food so good - it's tradition. They still grind their own fresh beef (no frozen pre-formed patties here), still make the malts and shakes using real ice cream (not that soft-serve crap that other places use), and they still cook everything over the same charcoal grill (yes, they have an indoor charcoal grill). This type of place has, sadly, become vary rare in these days of processed frozen food and mega-chain fast food. This is a true burger joint in the best sense. That's why they were listed as the best place to get a hamburger in Wisconsin in USA Today. Be advised, they're closed on Mondays and they don't take credit or debit cards. Bring cash.

    Seriously don't know what all the rave is about this 'restaurant', must be a local favorite based on childhood memories! The short version: One double cheeseburger (about the size of a McDouble at McDonalds), a 12oz shake, and a lunch sized bag of plain potato chips (all served in wrappers - no plate or silverware) for $7.07. The place is tiny (I mean cramped), old, and boring. I would call this place a local DIVE!

    Let's start with the best part - the building. This tiny diner is a piece of Americana that time has forgotten. I've never seen such a well preserved restaurant that apparently hasn't changed in over 50 years! The handmade milk shakes are awesome, smooth and creamy and not at all gritty. My only disappointment was with the burgers. They're the skinny little flat ones you get at fast food places. The redeeming factor is the way they're cooked - over a charcoal fire, giving the burgers a real char-grilled, smokey flavor. It's a shame all this effort isn't used on a quality 1/3 lb freshly ground beef patty. But then it wouldn't be the authentic Mickey Lu's I guess. They don't do fries just chips (too bad I bet they would be awesome). Great value and good old fashion service. You really must stop here just for the experience.

    If you haven't been to Mickey Lu's yet, where have you been? The same restaurant has been around since 1942 serving delicious burgers and arguably the best malts in the area. Mickey Lu's in Marinette still uses the same bun recipe, grinds their own meat, uses real ice cream, and charcoal grills the burgers. They were also named in the USA Today's "51 great burger joints!" The taste simply cannot be beat and is another must-stop in the area.

    When I was a wee little one, my dad used to go here for lunch a lot since it was near his office, and sometimes I'd get to meet him here. Awesome flame grilled hamburgers in a greasy spoon diner. Malts that will bring you religion. This place is a dive, but I wouldn't change a thing. Unfussy. Please don't change.

    Mickey-Lu's. Great for alot of reasons! Great butter burgers. My Grandfather took me to Mickey-Lu's fifty years ago. I stop by every time we come to Marinette. It is NOSTALGIC, looks exactly like it did when it opened in 1942. Same recipes for charbroiled burgers, chips, malts. I always get two cheeseburgers. No frills, no fries, just chips. Same jukeboxes on the counter top. Took my wife on a Saturday nite, it was 8PM and the joint was busy, teens, young and old adults. Everyone in Marinette's eats at Mickey's. Even tho it was busy the owner stopped by to talk, service was fast. McDonalds and Culvers were a half mile away, but I go to Mickey-Lu's. Nostalgic, yes, but yummy, butter burgers and malts.

    Mickey-Lu's is a gem. Its a charming burger joint that takes you back in time. The burgers are flame grilled, served on a perfect bun with the works and their famous pad of butter. To complete the experience, order a malt and a bag of chips. All of this for about $5.00. One of my favorite places and always a positive experience.

    If Diners, Drive in's, and Dives were to come to the northwoods of Wisconsin, this would be a must stop! Local favorite and has been around for years and years. The ownership has kept the classic diner feel, look, and menu. Everytime I'm in Marinette, I stop. No questions asked. It's a given.

    Marinette/Menominee has more fast food restaurants than anywhere else in the world, so it seems odd that locals don't know what they have. I will keep this simple...if you are driving through the area (more than likely you will just drive through) go here. This place would be a classic anywhere...

    I read about Mickey Lu' s here on Yelp, and had to go the next day! The burgers are small, so get two, or save room for pie and only have one? The burgers are grilled on a charcoal grill and have a pat of butter in with the works. The buns are delicious, toasted just right! A cheeseburger runs about 2 bucks, and is worth even more. I live on a beef farm, and I was impressed with the quality and flavor of the beef. The chocolate malt was like stepping back in time, it's made with real ice cream and was delicious! Try this place, you'll be hooked! Also, pie is only a dollar a slice, or 1.30 for ala mode. Unheard of these days!

    Best burgers ever. I've been a fan since 1966, when my father first took me. Now, I've lived all over the world and they are THE very best burgers and malts ever-and certainly the only burger place I ever go out of my way for... Really juicy, homemade buns, a bit of butter, yum! Always a big draw for going to Marinette and my kids have it on their list. The grilled cheese and brats are great too, and my vegetarian son likes the egg option.

    The charm of Mickey-Lu's is that the room has apparently been unaltered since the restaurant was established in 1942. The Formica counter, the stools, the jukebox, the tables -- everything looks original.     Always wanted to stop here on our way from the Chicago area to the Upper Pennisula and this time the timing was right to stop on our way back. We stopped in and the temperature outside was about 70 degrees and their blowing air conditioner unit had it even chillier inside on a July summer day -- not too inviting. As we were deciding where to sit, my eyes began to burn and then it began to hit the rest of my family. The girl behind the counter told us that we should probably sit up front because it would be farther away from the onions that were burning our eyes. As we were crying, we were going to try to sit in a booth-like area that the 5 of us could all sit together, but I couldn't even fit into between the seat and the table and I'm not that big. We were out of there shortly after (our eyes still burning) so my rating is based on the atmosphere, not on the food which we will never try because we won't be back.

    Cool, old style place that serves burgers and brats and a limited menu. Great real ice cream milk shakes. No fries, just chips on the side, but that's fine. The burgers are grilled over charcoal that gives them a great backyard BBQ flavor. But do yourself and your waistline a favor and order without the added butter. The sight and taste of melted butter rolling off the burger down your arm is pretty disgusting. A good cheeseburger doesn't need extra butter - it's like putting mayo on a pizza. The burgers are small, but two burgers, chips and a drink are over $7, so not the cheapest meal in town.

    Mickey-Lu's is the kind of place you go to when you want good food and a genuine atmosphere. No fancy-schmancy decor, no gimmicks, just good food that is value and priced served by a down-to-earth friendly staff. If you are lucky enough to eat there when owner Chuck is on duty, you'll get intelligent conversation, too, if he's not too busy. This is the kind of place the locals come back to, and when they leave the area, it's the first place they visit (after mom's) when they return. Yes, it does take you back to a better time. And yes, Mickey-Lu's is a gem.

    Sorry, but the previous favorable reviews appear to be nostalgia related, not based on good food or knowledge of actual bar-b que. This place doesn't sell bar-b-que anything. It sells small burgers with added paddies of butter, and calls itself a bar-b-que joint. If you have been anywhere south of Chicago and expect real bar-b-que, of any style, don't go here. Or go once, and then you will understand.

Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning.
