Lake Mills Locker Liquor & Catering

This place is awesome. I have no reason to take any stars off. I spend a lot of time in lake mills when it's warm and come to Locker Liquor all the time, mainly for the butcher shop. I am reluctant to even post this review for fear that too many people will decide to take my advice, which will result in a shortage of my beloved steaks. The ribeye with the house marinade is soooooo good. You can either buy them marinaded (I think they let them sit overnight) or you can buy the fresh ribeye and have them douse it. I would recommend the former option if you are going to eat them the same day. If you are going to wait a day to cook them, you may want them to put the marinade on when you buy them. One caveat, letting the marinade sit too long (especially if it pools), may result in it being very salty and people who are sensitive to sodium may not love it. Beef pre-made patties for burgers have always been good too. We have always had to buy them frozen. Not sure if they have non frozen or not? If not I'm sure it could be arranged as the workers are always personable and accommodating. Beer and liquor selection is as good as Anywhere. They carry a good variety of local and imports. You can't go wrong with some spotted cow and couple if the marinaded ribeyes Check out more of my reviews at: ShawnKemp.yelp.com

Sweet Autumn Inn

1019 S Main St
Lake Mills, 53551
Reviews:
We stayed at the Sweet Autumn Inn in June of 2010, and it was both of our first time visiting a bed and breakfast. Terri, the Inn Keeper was totally wonderful, absolutely great. The house is adorable and incredibly cozy - she met us at the door, and had fresh baked cookies in our room (with extras in the dining room, as many as we wanted), and tons of little surprises hidden about the room. The room was super comfortable, very relaxing (much more than a hotel), and gave us a great place to spend the night. Terri suggested local places to get some food, which we did, and then prepared a delicious breakfast in the morning. We asked ourselves why we don't eat like that everyday... We also got to chat with Terri a bit, which led to a great morning filled with many laughs. Overall, I highly recommend staying at the Sweet Autumn Inn. It's a great place to get away to.
I'm hoping that there can be more reviews than just once a year! We stayed at the Sweet Autumn Inn last night (October 11, 2012). We were only going to be in the area for one night, and I wanted to stay in a Bed & Breakfast instead of a cheap motel. We don't go away much, so I wanted to pamper ourselves a bit. I found the Sweet Autumn Inn on the web and thought it looked perfect. I was right! The house is just lovely inside and out. There are many options for entertainment on the first floor: TV with videos and DVDs, games, books, and lots of neat antiques to look at! If it had been warmer, we could have visited the pond out back or sat on the front porch. We stayed in the Everson room, and it was very comfortable. We checked in and rested a bit before going to the Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson to see "Hello Dolly" (If you can go to the Fireside GO - I'm probably going to write a review of that, too). We took the many throw pillows off of the bed and put them on the chair or bench. When we came back, Teri had come in and whisked them away, left us a plate of cookies, and turned the light on for us. There was also a pitcher of filtered water next to the cookies. The one thing I will say is that the feather comforter got to be a bit much during the night. There's one of those velour-type blankets as well, and we ended up taking the comforter off the bed after a while. That'll be nice and cozy in the winter. The bed was comfortable, and we both slept reasonably well (neither of us sleeps that well away from home, and I don't sleep well in general, but we both were happy with this bed). Oh - speaking of winter, there's a working fireplace, too! Last year's review said that the bathroom was basic and "didn't really match the character of the rest of the room". Well, that suits me just fine. The one great thing about modern times is modern plumbing. Many B&Bs don't have private bathrooms (which I'm not all that fond of - it's just weird, and what do you do when you have to pee and some stranger is in the bathroom? Ack!), but this one does, and I'm very grateful. Ever stay in a hotel or B&B where the shower was just a trickle and not the right temperature? Not at Sweet Autumn! The shower was perfect, and there were plenty of towels and other amenities (Q-tips and the like). I'll take a great shower over a claw-foot tub any day. Breakfast. Ahh, breakfast. Although the rest of the stay was nice, it was breakfast that drove me to write this review. For starters there were pumpkin scones. I've never really liked scones - they're always so dry. Teri's scones were MOIST and full of flavor! She had little bowls of butter for each of us, and that just made them taste even better. There were two for each of us, but we refrained from being little piggies and eating them all. She has a large array of tasty teas, and we each had a glass of ice water and orange juice (or we could have had cranberry pomegranate). After the scones, she brought out a plate with an orange slice, a small bunch of grapes, and a bowl of oatmeal. I've never had oatmeal like this before. My husband said there was some wild rice in there, but that can't be right. There were blueberries, other fruits, nuts? I don't know - there were so many things in there and topped with a tasty yogurt/creamy thing. She told us, but I was enjoying it too much to remember everything. AND! If that's not enough... large slices of candied bacon. Needless to say, we stuffed ourselves. She let us take the scones home, and I'm looking forward to eating them tomorrow for breakfast. This has gotten long - sorry about that. We just really enjoyed ourselves, and Teri is so nice and took such good care of us. If you're on the fence at all about staying here... candied bacon and moist scones. Just go - you won't be disappointed.
Great place that we found on accident driving to another hotel. So we cancelled our reservation and stayed at Sweet Water Inn. Luckily they had an open room for us. They have three rooms, very clean and it feel like your staying at a friends house. Bedrooms are upstairs with a community fridge and microwave (stocked with popcorn ). I will stay here again. There are no words to say how great this place, love it. One of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed at in America.

Reviews:
Yelp has this place misnamed - it's actually "TT's Time Out" and it's your quintessential neighborhood/small town bar. + Classic interior - huge horseshoe shaped bar with plenty of seating, big windows, and a ton of televisions + Decent tap selection - 10 taps, with emphasis on New Glares Brews + Good bottle selection (Spaten Optimator!) + Prices are *super* fair + Classic bar food -burgers, chicken strips, fries, Emil's pizzas + Good jukebox I like the place. I like it a lot better than the neighboring Carp's - the service is better, and they will usually serve food no matter what, provided they're open. Swing in, grab a tap, have some good bar food, and enjoy yourself.

Really yelpers?!?! You gave this place an average of 4 stars.....my faith in humanity is lost! The salads served with the entrees are simply iceberg lettice, a slice of tomato, one cucumber slice and some crappie croutons. The chicken parm was served with a super sweet marinara sauce as was the spaghetti and meatballs. The house wine was below average- but what do you expect for about $4. The staff was nice, but the food was pedestrian.
On of my favorite pizza places no matter the location! I've lived in Chicago for over 15 years and pizza is serious business in Chicago! From Lou Malnati's thick to Piece pizzas thin! I guess that's why Blue Moon impressed so much, the owner was originally from the north side of the city! This is jewel in the dirt of Wisconsin chain restaurants!
We came in 30 minutes before they closed, and they were very friendly and very happy to serve us dinner still. The cheddar broccoli soup was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the creole - we've never had it before, but we enjoyed it. I ordered the spaghetti & meatballs... It was pretty good. I'm not a big fan of peppers in spaghetti sauce, but other than that it was good. The staff was nice & the inside is very unique and has fun decorations.

Ming’s Garden

Reviews:
I've been dining here for a good 15 years now. Oh my gosh, the lunch buffet is so good! It's actually the best Americanized-Chinese buffet food I've ever eaten. The service is ok at lunch, but sometimes they miss soda refills. It really depends how busy they are. You can buy a take out container to fill with buffet food if you are in a rush. If you are dining in, you have the option of ice cream for dessert. I wouldn't recommend Ming's for dinner because it is pricier and you don't get the variety you can have at lunch. Take out that is usually ready in 20 minutes around the dinner hour.
Found myself visiting friends in Lake Mills and we decided to grab some take out for dinner. A call was placed to Ming's; the food was ready in around 10 minutes, which is impressive given we ordered for 5 people. Service at pick-up was fast and friendly. Prices were very reasonable - under $40 for 5 main entrees and an appetizer or two. Arrived home - the massive portions were still piping hot. Perfect amount of rice; not too much, not too little. Most of the food was decent; some items were better (sweet and sour chicken), some a little worse (house lo-mein). All things considered, it was a 3-star event.
Good value if you're looking for typical Americanized Chinese fare. We enjoy the takeout, friendly employees, and very prompt service. All in all great for a night in when you don't feel like cooking.

It doesn't get more Wisconsin than this! ... generous portions, reasonable prices. You can get a Moscow Mule in the copper cup for under $4... Deal!
Follow-up visit wasn't quite as good as the first time... Tuesday, May 13, 2014. - While it sits alongside the Crawfish river, you can't actually see the river from the place. There's a saggy metal barn/building blocking any chance of a view. + Bartender was outstanding - prompt, friendly, and made a mean cocktail for us + Drinks were cheeeeeeeep - $7 for a mixer and a tap (Fixed Gear) + Menu and specials sounded really interesting - prime rib, scallops, surf-n-turf, cajun tiger shrimp, etc., and all were reasonably priced Unfortunately, here's where things took a turn for the worse. We ordered: spicy cheese curds to start off with, a 2-piece catfish dinner (cajun spiced, please) with crinkle cut fries, and a petite fillet mignon with steamed veggies. Our friend ordered the AZ Mac burger with crinkle cut fries. Our server came back and announced: "We are out of spicy curds, krinkle cut fries, catfish, and we can't make the AZ burger right now." Hmm. So, we had to revisit the menu while she stood there explaining that they regularly run out of things on Tuesdays, and that the best days to visit are Mondays or Wednesdays (which, oddly, have different menu offerings than Tuesdays and Thursdays). We adjusted our orders: "regular" cheese curds, a small prime rib with regular fries, the tiger shrimp with beer battered fries, and of course, the fillet with steamed veggies. + The curds came out first: generous portion, nicely cooked, tasty ranch. Win. - The prime rib looked nice, but... it was undercooked, full of hard, stringy fat, and not all that fantastic. The regular fries were good. - The tiger shrimp were tiny little creatures and were over-cooked. The plate featured a huge mound of Sysco's finest beer battered fries, which were perfectly fried. - The fillet mignon was slightly undercooked, and full of hard, stringy fat. I could barely cut it with the steak knife, and it chewed like Jack Link's jerky. The steamed veggies were clearly frozen veggies and consisted entirely of "stems" of broccoli with 2 small slices of frozen carrot added in. It seemed like I got the bottom of the bag. Granted, our meal was relatively inexpensive, and we should've known better than to expect haute cuisine, but... come on... put a little more effort into stocking enough food and spend maybe an extra buck or two for some better quality ingredients, and all will be good. I promise. I'd say this was a 2.25 star visit, at best.
Went last night on a Monday. Waitress barely acknowledged our presence and wasn't sure what food was available to order on the menu. Offered to bring samples of a couple of the beers on tap but never bothered to come back to our table. Ended up walking out and finding a different place to eat. I guess if you're not a local, then you don't exist to them.

Reviews:
I love Mexican food.. The food here was just average nothing special.. The house strawberry Margarita was just okay.. Definitely not strong enough, and I'm a light weight. Overall not somewhere I would probably go back to.
Tried this establishment for supper on a Friday and was very pleased. First, they had Mariachis strolling the dinning room, this really added to the experience. We were seated with a bowl of corn tortilla chips and salsa which appeared to be home made. The menu had the usual list of Mexican beers, nothing surprising. My wife ordered a steak burrito which she said was tasty. I ordered the steak Tampicano, a steak seasoned with bell peppers and onions much like you would get on fajitas. The seasoning was tasty and it came with the usual rice, beans, and guacamole. You have the option of corn or flour tortillas with the steak. A strike against the place is the dinning room, it is small especially with mariachis strolling through it. They do have outdoor seating which I am looking forward to in warmer weather. The place over looks Commons Park and we visited it just after the towns Christmas Tree was lit, which added to the evenings atmosphere. Hopefully they will continue the service, food quality and taste, as well as the atmosphere.
Had Carne de Res en Salsa Verde . Very good. Julie had a tacos plate that included chorizo . Best I have ever tasted and I try a lot of chorizo. Theyes served a tomatillo sauce with the tacos. Was excellent . would be good on the sliced steak like what I was served .

Sand Bar

Reviews:
I love the Sand Bar. It's perfectly located on beautiful Rock Lake with plenty of outdoor seating and a great view of the lake and beach. All of the food I've had has been excellent- especially The Friday Fish Fry and Hot Wings. If you like spice, I'd suggest the Johnny Cash Ring of Fire wings. They have a rum-based Bamboozle cocktail on tap with about five kinds of rum. One is good. Two will have you buzzed. Three may knock you out.
Love this bar!! But it's Saturday Labor Day Weekend and where are all the regular bartenders!!??? Maddie, Hannah, Tony and Ashley?? Weird!!
3 years since my last review; I've been back many times since, and unfortunately, things have progressively gotten worse, specifically in terms of service and hospitality. If you're operating a place that's supposed to be fun and inviting, I'd strongly suggest hiring people that aren't surly, impatient, and generally rude... But what do I know? I guess I know what doesn't work. Bartender dude (built like a fire hydrant, scruffy beard) couldn't be less happy to be behind the bar if he tried. Doesn't matter if it's slow or busy, he seems to be put off by having to pour a drink. Waitstaff are a mixed bag; some have been tolerable, but most start their service with complaints about how busy (or slow) things are and how everyone is pissing them off. That's fun. Tap selection consists of three whole offerings. Bottled beers are heavy on the macros - gotta keep those IL tourists happy with their Bud Lights. Food is also hit or miss; some items are good, while others are simply awful. Factor in the consistently poor service with heavy attitude, mediocre food, and high prices and I don't care what type of view you offer - I won't be back. Oh - I dare anyone to ask about the wifi. You'll see them turn stone-faced/irate and will get an under-breath reply that isn't appropriate for this family-friendly platform... I don't understand what the big deal is. Here's to hoping the sand bar beaches itself.

I'm not a big Subway fan. For me it works in a pinch when there are no Jimmy Johns in the area and I don't want to pollute my body with fast food burgers. I do like that Subway offers breakfast flatbread sandwiches at all hours. On a recent visit to this Lake MIlls location I ordered an egg white and spinach sandwich. The employees were friendly and fast. Store was clean. TIP: This Subway is located in front of the Menards and Kohls - be careful at the intersection.

Went here alone while me friend was at work for some breakfast after a late night. The place is small and I imagine it gets busy on Sunday mornings. There is a bunch of tables around the perimeter and a bar with stools at the back. I was greeted as I entered and was told to sit "wherever was most comfortable." The waitresses were extremely friendly even highlighting places to see in Lake Mills for the couple next to me that was celebrating their anniversary. My order was taken quickly and I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup from that point on. And I drink coffee. I ordered a skillet off the breakfast menu it was around $7.75 (one of the highest priced menu items) It came in 3 minutes. I kid you not. My eggs were cooked perfectly to order and the food was great overall.
Very quaint cafe. Friendly staff. My 2 egg Breakfast W/ Rye Toast & American Fries was excellent. Over easy egg's were cooked to perfection! The coffee was a little weak for my taste... And my wife's pancake was a bit underwhelming... Crumbly, almost like it was from a mix. Other than that, we had a fantastic experience. If you have never been to Lake Mills, make time to do so soon. Check out the Café on the park, and then wander around a beautiful little town. You won't regret the drive.
Cafe on the Park is the typical small town diner. Their ownership has changed over the years, but the place looks pretty much the same as it did when I was growing up. They have good omelettes. Most of the menu items are pretty good. I've been here for lunch too, but it is much better for breakfast.
