I came into town to go to a very important meeting and needed some good quality local sweets to share. I definitely found the right spot. The cookies were delicious. Kathy also offers Gulten Free options as well. Her cookies were perfect for my meeting and I got invited to come back any time. I highly recommend these awesome treats. And I'm picky.
Kathy makes all of the cookies herself, and they are beyond delicious! Her intricate designs are wonderful, and my kids absolutely love them!

Baus Catering Service

Reviews:
We used Baus to cater a funeral luncheon in La Crosse. Their online menu was a very helpful starting point, and over the phone, their experience and insights were invaluable. This was during the holidays, so despite being a busy time, they were very personable and sympathetic. The food was great, and the servers took care of everything. They gave us peace of mind and a nice meal, on what was a very hard day.

My family and I love this place! The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. They have mellow music but tvs to watch a game. The food is excellent and there is something for everyone! They even have a weekly special that is totally creative. One great feature is the kids book shelf when you walk in. My kids love picking out a book to read or a toy to play with. Great for us so we can relax and the kids are entertained. This is by far my families new favorite place!
When we came in we sat ourselves and waited for a server. It took a bit to be picked up by a waiter but when we did it the service was perfect. The waiter had perfect timing and was very friendly and actually funny. The food hit the spot too. I had the basic and it was really good, the eggs done perfectly. My girlfriend had the breakfast sandwich and she loved it. 5 stars
We really like Greengrass. It's a great option close to the UWL campus. It has a good range of items on the menu, and the prices are very reasonable. The ala carte pricing is nice, especially for the college crowd. It is family friendly and has a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options. The food is good and the service is friendly and efficient.

John’s Bar

Reviews:
John's Bar is a great example of what a hometown bar should be. The employees are all great- they have good drinks.. better food and reasonable prices. One note on food is come hungry!! The portions are huge!! I suggest trying their homemade hummus! Delish!! If you get there early on Sundays it's buy one get one on your first drink! They have a fun, laid back ambiance. The best part is that even though its on 3rd Street you don't get a lot of rowdy college students!!! The people tend to be anywhere from late 20s to 30s, 40s and so on! It doesn't get better than John's Bar!
John's Bar (as is The Helm across 3rd street) is one of he better tavern operations in the state of Wisconsin. The owner is a hard working family man who is a good neighbor and respected leader in the tavern business. The owner can be seen getting the place ready many mornings and will make the extra effort to help keep the outside area looking good.If memory serves the bar had been on 3rd street for 50 years when the city of La Crosse tried to make them move about 30 years ago to build a much needed parking ramp. The legendary founding owner John Urbanek objected to the city attempts at having them relocate and they then were able to work out a deal to have the ramp built around and over them thus preserving the historic tavern's location in downtown La Crosse. The iconic slogan JOHNS BAR is known for is "You Are A Stranger Here but Once" dates back to the 1950's era when Johns had a manager/bartender named Ralph who was famous for being able to remember everyone by name. That tradition has been carried on to the present day by a smart capable staff led by award winning bartender "Julio".All in all John's Bar is one of the top flight operations one could ever find in one of the more competitive bar markets in the midwest.
In town for some nearby training at Ft. McCoy... I was antsy to escape the college crowd of La Crosse when I happily found this "hometown gem" (next to Dublin Square). The atmosphere of this bar was welcoming, non-imposing, and enjoyable. Great selection of beer and mixed drinks at an affordable price. Total win. It was a welcome change from the shenanigans of the "recently turned 21 crowd" that inhabits much of downtown LaX. If looking for a low-key hangout with a crowd that is not ridiculously young, nor scary old, John's is the place for you.

Ranison Ice Cream & Candy

706 16th St S
La Crosse, 54601
Reviews:
I've been going here once or twice a month for the last few years. Great homemade ice cream and very reasonable prices. The flavors change frequently so don't be surprised if they don't have chocolate or vanilla when you go. They also have a bunch of other candy and sweets. The service has always been prompt and friendly. It's a wonderful little neighborhood spot and a place we frequent on walks.
The only reason I gave 3 stars is credit to the ice cream and chocolate. Otherwise, it would have been a two. Service here has seriously gone downhill since I moved to the neighborhood. It's always been teens and sometimes you encounter less than helpful, "I don't want to work" attitudes... walking in to find socializing to the point of ignoring customers, no one behind the counter, begrudgingly ringing up transactions. I've also had great, smiling service. But in recent years it's been more of the former to the point where I no longer stop in as much. It isn't the first place in town I offer up when taking the kids out for ice cream which is sad because it is the closest. The ice cream and chocolate are wonderful. Their cashew turtles are my favorite. However, the last time I went in... they seemed to be out of at least half of their offered chocolates (wasn't a holiday, or that late into the summer). I chose to get a small box anyway, and as I was picking the last item.... I realized the kid behind the counter was touching the chocolates with his bare hands. I didn't see him wash his hands. I have no idea where they could have been. Aren't they supposed to use paper or gloves? I was so disgusted most of the box ended up getting thrown away because I didn't eat it.
A long bike ride on our visit to La Crosse found us cruising down 16th Street. My girlfriend and I both see this ancient looking ice cream shop smack in the middle in the neighborhood, so you just assume it's going to be awesome. And awesome it was. All homemade ice cream. Tons of flavors. Draft root beer for a song. It's pretty much a dream come true. And all for ridiculously reasonable prices. I walked out with an photo-op, massive, true three-scooper for just over two bucks. As my lady said, if she lived across the street from that joint, she'd weigh 400 lbs.

Probably the best bacon deluxe burger I have had under $7. It's fresh, cooked to order and amazing juicy. And not the juicy that makes a mess everywhere! The experience at Culver's for me has never been remotely negative. Even when it's busy the employees are friendly and always, always smile! Even if you change your mind they are all there to help out. The burger I ordered tonight was the single bacon deluxe. I ordered all the toppings; ketchup, mustard, onion lettuce mayo and pickles. Even the lettuce was fresh. Not browned or soggy. The bun felt and tastes like it was just baked. The fries on the side were cooked fresh and still hot. Not the way some do where they refry a already cooked fry to make it got again. This was fresh! The drink side was easy to do but once agin served with a smile and out of a clean drive they window. Stop in and try this. Sorry for no picture this time...I was hungry.
Great place to eat! We go through the drive thru every Friday we're in town. I knocked it down a star because lately we've had problems with our orders not being quite right & finding out after we drove away. Things like missing French fries, or fries put into bag upside down; no napkins; ketchup on burgers for someone who really, really dislikes ketchup (mustard & pickles only, please). Good idea to double check your order before you drive away. Other than that the food is great when it's right. Love their concrete mini mixers!
Butter Burgers and sides of onion rings and fries and we're in heaven. Top all that off with a Brownie Custard sundae and wow! Very good service. This is a must stop if you're in the area.

Great ice cream at a great price! Try the chocolate peanut butter ice cream.
The ice cream flavors are awesome. I tried to maintain my composure and only get a one scoop. The next day I went back for triple. This is such a friendly establishment and an iconic landmark in La Crosse.
I live for finding old school ice cream shops in the Midwest! The Pearl is a vintage confectionary and I've cream parlour on Pearl Street and their selection, service and quality do not disappoint! I enjoyed a delicious sundae with their homemade ice cream. They had a wide selection of homemade chocolate and hard candy, too. Service was prompt and very friendly. Prices were good, too - under $5 for most menu items.
