Cucina is nice... Especially if you can eat outside on the patio next to the lake. I have eaten here before and it's always super tasty...though I wouldn't say it's a healthy option. They have a few vegetarian options on their menu marked with a V. Pretty forward thinking for Wisconsin. ;) The service was super slow today...maybe just lazy Sunday or something, as I don't remember it being an issue in the past. Our server was super sweet, regardless. The patio connects to the bakery/coffee shop...so it's a treat to grab coffee and treats afterward. We definitely enjoyed our leisurely afternoon here today!

Came for dinner while in town on business. Was very pleased with the decor, attentive and friendly staff, and the food. The squid ink linguini was delicious (a bit spicy) and their pizza was also very good. I'd go back.

Seeing that everything in this area gets booked up so fast I was actually thinking to myself "wow if its that busy then it must be good"... Service was wonderful. Our waiter looked a little too young to be serving alcohol but whatever. Still very nice staff. The food was great but the drinks were horrible. They really need better drink options and someone more experienced behind the bar. The scallops I ordered were cooked perfectly but there was no side dish. I wish the waiter would have mentioned that. It was just scallops on a plate. Not cool especially for the price! Dont think I would return on my next trip to Kohler. Step up the pasta game guys!

I have been here a few times for lunch and have never been impressed. Pretty expensive food and the taste is just blehh. The service was good when i first went there but the next few times was horrible. Took too long and not the friendliest waiters.

Stopped into Cucina on my way to Door County coming from Chicago. Excellent lunch service outside from my server, Peggy. The trip lunch special is a steal at 15 dollars. Great house salad, white bean and kale soul, and Gnocchi. I highly recommend this place.

I was really excited to try somewhere new. My mother-in-law-to-be decided to come here for lunch after a day of shopping, because she really enjoys it here and I love a good pasta dish. I was expecting to be blown out of the water, since I know Kohler boasts fine dining and good service. Overall, I was disappointed. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could, but I can't give it three stars, so I'm rounding down. I will say that the interior is gorgeous. It's classy looking with columns in the middle and intimate and cozy color schemes. There's also a big patio for outside seating, with a gorgeous view of the lake. I can see it as a great spot to grab an appetizer and a glass of wine before going somewhere better for dinner. It took forever for a server to come to us. There were a grand total of three tables in the inside dining room, although the outdoor seating was almost full. It seemed like both sections were being run by the same server, and I couldn't help but to note that all of the indoor dining patrons suffered because of the crowd outside. It was a nice touch that the table starts with fresh bread as well as olive oil and Parmesan for dipping. We started out with iced teas, then ordered our lunches. After 32 minutes, our food finally crawled out of the kitchen. My mother in law ordered the Trio Express ($15) which comes with soup, salad, and a half of a pizza, pasta, or sandwich. She went for the house salad, the Tuscan White Bean & Kale soup, and the pizza Bianca, which had a few cheeses and prosciutto on it. The salad was just a salad, nothing special. She really liked the soup, and claimed to like her pizza, but only ate one small piece and took the rest home and tried to feed it to my girlfriend. I had a piece, and I thought it was alright. It was a bit burnt on the bottom and tasted more like ham on a cracker than an "upscale" prosciutto pizza. I got a ravioli dish that no longer seems to be on their menu, which I think was somewhere around $14 dollars. It came with four big ravioli filled with ricotta, along with braised beef and pork in a tomato sauce. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about either. The pasta was well cooked, but not very flavorful. I wish there had been more of the meat component. It was another good 15-20 minutes for her to finally give us our cheque, and who knows how long to get our change back. I would give this place another shot, but based on first impressions, I am really disappointed. The service was slow and not at all attentive. The food was mediocre- thankfully we ordered relatively cheap dishes. I'd be happier at Olive Garden, and in an area where there are so many Italian restaurants claiming to be upscale, I would just as soon go to any of them before coming back to this one.

Cucina, You're still delicious and inspiring :) From your fantastic beef carpaccio, to your shrimp with tapenade, to youre tuscan bean and kale soup, to your arugula w/fried cheese salad! (all of which I've had within a week:) You don't disparage, you merely serve - and serve wonderfully! Also - a shout out to Jennifer who was just a fantastic waiter - and surprised me with more roasted garlic to go!! She was fantastic before that though :)

Came here for business dinner; this place has super nicer decor. Food is on the more expensive side but still affordable. Service was really slow but the waitress was nice nonetheless.

My husband, son and I were staying at the inn on wood lake and wake and walked over to try to get a table at cucina for dinner. The hostess took one look at our stroller and told us they weren't accepting walk ins for the night and that reservations were required. She then suggested the horse and plow as it is more "family friendly". We ended up eating at the chocolate shop/bistro right next store to cucina. We sat on the patio which is basically shared with cucina's patio. We couldn't help but notice all the empty tables at cucina and how, "despite needing a reservation" the patio only had about three parties eating dinner. I would never go back to cucina solely because of the way the hostess treated us.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have a better rating! Our night here was so much better (and cheaper) than the Wisconsin room. After a long day of golf, 8 of us came bc we wanted something close by. We got seated easily in the bar area. Hopalicious is a great local APA. I had the carpaccio to start. Yum! Heavy on the garlic but it usually is. Then the oysters. I had the British Columbia ones. Small briny awesomeness. They come with unnecessary sauces. The mignonette us all you need. Then I had the insalata rustica. Fried goat cheese, need I say more. I also had the Brussels sprouts with pancetta. Very good! Great atmosphere, reasonable price, awesome food

Oh Jesus. I'm in the middle of the work day trying to get a quick lunch.. The food actually arrived pretty quick the problem was the waitress taking forever to come take my order and then taking twice as long to bring me the check. Talk about slow service and the restaurant is not busy. She was nice and I noticed that she was trying to get personable with other clients, but still... I need to go back to work! I already asked twice, now I'm taking the time to write this review while still waiting. Pasta was decent, I was so hungry and honestly can't compare the dish with anything else because I just devoured it entirely without thinking. I had the pasta with vegetables and ice tea. I think I'm just used to quick service from Chicago...Maybe this is how things flow in WI. I ended up going to the hostess table and asking for my tab.

Stopped here on the way home from the AC and am glad we did. We got the oysters which were very fresh and come with 3 sauces. They have a lunch special where u can get a soup, salad and have a half pizza/pasta/sandwich. I got the ceaser, a basil and pea puree soup with the gnocchi. All of it was good, the sauce for the gnocchi was bit too salty, even for me but the gnocchi itself was melt-in-your-mouth good. I will definitely come here if I'm in Kohler again.

I was in town for the Midwest Regional Championships (triathlon). Great nutritious food is necessary and they fulfilled every little special request that I had. The food was fantastic and the service great. I will make sure to come back and order the seared tuna again. SImply put, fueling up there lead to me an impressive 9min lead and let me take the gold back to Chicago.

We've been to Cucina three times since moving into the area nine years ago. The lengthy time between visits is a byproduct of operating under the "maybe this time, it'll be better" way of thinking. We brought my inlaws to Cucina the week of Christmas. The server was very nice and the atmosphere, as usual, was a high point. The roasted garlic served with the bread basket is a nice touch. The wine was lovely. I ordered the capellini pasta and didn't love it, but my husband did. The scallops my mother-in-law ordered were not cooked to her liking and too salty. The pizza my father-in-law ordered was nothing spectacular and the tomato sauce used on the pizzas - the kids' menu included - is very strong flavored and not terribly appetizing. My husband was happy with his pork chop and was the most pleased with his meal. Despite our early reservation, we were told they were out of half of their gelato flavors on the dessert menu. The pistachio chocolate tart was just okay. The creme brûlée was fabulous.

I would call Cucina 3.5 stars but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up. The food is good, though the portions are definitely on the smaller side. I got the Bavette steak and my oh my it was really delicious, but my side was a single mushroom. I feel like your dinner should come with at least one side as opposed to you having to order everything but that's how it goes here. Good wine list as well as solid cocktails. If they moved up the size of their portions I could see Cucina developing a real following. But for the time being I'm sure they do well enough serving the Inn at Woodlake and the American Club. And I will say if you're there for a romantic weekend this restaurant does set the ambiance well. 27/365

My husband and I went here for a date night while we were staying at the resort. The food really exceeded my expectations. Best Italian food I have had yet in the state of Wisconsin! We had the calimari (excellent), my husband had the meatballs, I had the whole wheat seafood linguine - highly recommend. Service was excellent.

Dined for lunch and experience was fine. Qualify of food depends on what you get (pizza was above average but salad was not) and service, while servers are friendly, a bit slow. Recommend as a quick bite but not a destination.

Went for the express lunch ($15 for a cup of soup, side salad, and half a pizza or pasta). The soup of the day was a puréed pea so I tried that and it was delicious and topped with some shaved Parmesan. The salad choices with the trio are house or Caesar. I tried the house salad with vinaigrette dressing. The lettuce was good quality (no iceberg) and there were some nice olives in there too but the dressing was sweet which I didn't expect for an Italian vinaigrette. The dressing tasted bottled to me and it was a shame to put it on those nice greens. I chose half an artichoke and chicken pizza for my main course. It was fine. I can make better crust at home though, and the chicken reminded me of those precooked pieces of sliced breast you can buy at the grocery store. We had excellent service from Megan and enjoyed the view of the lake. For a $15 lunch, it was probably 3.5 stars, but yelp doesn't allow half stars on a review. I will go back and try dinner there. P.S. Very good bread served with olive oil before the meal

Service was HORRIBLE! Food was average. Stayed at Inn on Wood Lake and walked over to Cucina for dinner. The weather was wonderful so we asked to be seated outside. The patio was full the previous night, so we didn't go. However on this particular night, it was quite empty on the patio, so we went on over. The patio overlooks Wood Lake. Its beautiful and there were even a mother duck and ducklings on the lake that night. We were seated and left to sit for 10 minutes. 10 minutes! The waitress had been out on the patio in that 10 minutes and 100% ignored us. My friend walked inside and asked for us to get menus, get waters, get service. The young lady who finally came to the table, said to us "sorry, it happens, i didn't even know you were out here, I didn't know you were my table, oh well, what are you going to do?" We were shocked. REALLY? Did that just happen. We ordered and again were left to sit. The bust boy did a better job than our waitress, if you can even call her that. He was attentive, filled our waters and was kind. He deserved to be the waiter, not her. When the young lady came back with our drinks, we asked if the dressing on the salad we ordered could be put on the side. Again her response is as follows, "oh, I didn't tell them to do that, hmmm, i can check to see if they can do that, but I already put the order in." REALLY? Again, is this her first day or is she just a flake? I am going to say a flake. After we finished eating, there we sat again. By this time it was dark outside and jokingly we pulled out our cell phones for some light. There was no lighting, no candles, just dark. What a joke this visit was. Kohler prides itself on service and quality. Ha, I'll never go back to Cucina. This was one of the worst restaurant experience I've ever had.

Brilliance in marketing! While this appears to be a stand alone restaurant in the Shops at Woodlake- it is actually a part of The American Club (what isn't in this town) No matter as the food and the service were quite good. I just laughed as I think every place I ate at on my recent visit was affiliated with the hotel in some way. Thank heaven they have a good chefs! Recently remodeled, Cucina's only downside is that it is located in a strip mall. So just close your eyes as you wander in from the parking lot as once you are inside- it is easy to forget where you are (especially if you have a table outside overlooking the lake). On the tables were complimentary roasted garlic, olive oil and freshly grated Parmesan cheese which when mixed together and spread on the crunchy bread was pretty much perfection! That and a salad could have been my dinner- but there was plenty more to come. We shared a few of the appetizers, the fried calamari was quite good served with an aioli and marinara sauce and the bruschetta had just the right touch of garlic. Next up- a couple of salads- a Caesar and a mixed green salad with pine nuts. Since these were served "family style" we actually ordered more of the Casar it was just that good. My entree was grilled salmon with mushroom risotto and asparagus. Quite tasty and the guy I was with liked the risotto so much he ordered an additional side of it as sort of an "interim course" as it takes a while to prepare but the staff took it all in stride. Service was friendly and helpful. Our busser actually saw that my drink was empty and went to find the server for me so that I could have another (hmm . . .was there a look on my face of despair?) Good food, very good service all in an environment that is nice but still allowing for casual attire to be worn. Nice, Cucina. Know that your secret that you are really a "hotel" restaurant is safe with me!

Two words...roastic garlic. Yummm...I think thats what the hubby and I mainly come here for!!! We usually eat at Cucina when visiting the Kohler Resort and have always had a pretty descent experience. The food is pretty good...this last time I ordered a pesto pasta dish (without the chicken) and it was very good! My husband ordred the scallops with mushroom risotto...ok, as much as we like to dine out, we have NEVER had risotto...and Chef Gordon Ramseys million cooking shows have made us want to try it! YUMMO!!!! The service is pretty good as well. The first time we came, we had a "meh" experience with my husbands steak and they took it off our bill...overall, we enjoy the restaurant. Good Italian food with pretty solid service.

I was contemplating on whether or not to take a rain check on a supplier dinner, & wow, sure glad I didn't! The calamari was lightly breaded & super yummy with their house-made aioli. I ordered a whole wheat linguine dish that contained swordfish, mussels, and shrimp, tossed in a light garlic butter sauce. It was noted on a menu as a "spa cuisine item" (aka lower calories, healthier), but WOW - it was still so fabulous!!! Our server was very nice & attentive - no complaints on the service! I didn't get a chance to eat the dessert (my supplier was on a diet in preparation of a wedding, & I didn't want to be the only one pigging out on dessert) so I guess that will be a reason to return soon...

I loved this restaurant. Its an excellent option for a place outside of the American Club. While the restaurant is at a strip mall, the ambiance and decor don't make it feel that way. It doesn't fit a lot of people, so I recommend making reservations. Service was outstanding and the prices were extremely reasonable for the area. Definitely one of my favorites in Kohler.

My wife and I enjoyed the service of a fabulous waitress at this restaurant. The food, however, was rather disappointing. An Italian restaurant in this price range ought to offer fresh made pasta, not dry. The sauce of my orrechiata was clearly days old and reheated -- the pasta was precooked and reheated as well. We enjoyed a well cooked rib-eye steak and for that, and for a very nice waitress, the restaurant deserves the 3-star review.

meh indeed. plusses - very nice waitress - menu has variety - reasonable wine pricing - roasted garlic with bread service minusses - overpriced menu (i know the pasta came from a box, don't charge $18 for it) - cheesy/lame ambiance, it's like vegas-fake ambiance, if that makes any sense - oily pasta sauce, blergh i guess i'm just too accustomed to fantastic italian food in chicago to even give cucina a chance. this place made us wish we had dressed up (jackets required) for the immigrant room. never to return...

Cucina is the American Club Resort's Italian venue and is set among the shops at Woodlake; it is one of the more casual and less expensive of the resorts sit down restaurants. Out of the four restaurants we dined in at the resort Cucina was our least favorite. The dinner did not get off to a good start as when we gave the hostess our name they somehow did not have our reservation in the system. Fortunately they were able to fit us in, The dining room is a large open space and has Tuscan like decor that wants to be elegant but lies more on the cheesy side of the spectrum. Our server was a tad green, but passable. The dinner menu at Cucina is broken into a several different sections: Antipasta (Appetizers), Raw Bar items, Soups & Salads, Pasta, Grilled Meats, Seafoods and Desserts. There are also several sauces and sides listed. The appetizers and pasta dishes have small and large size options in case you want to dine tapas style and sample several items. The meal commences with the bread service; this consisted of mediocre Focaccia, a roasted clove of garlic (this was a nice touch), shaved Parmesan cheese and olive oil. We wanted to order the Raw Bar Platter for Two but unfortunately we were informed they were out of oysters and this item was not available. None of the other appetizers were singing to us (and to be fair we were not terribly hungry as we had recently pigged out on hors d'oeuvres at a wine reception at the resort) so we decided to just order entrees. My wife went with the Penne Pasta dish with peas, vodka cream sauce and asiago cheese; the server was nice enough to substitute sausage for the prosciutto for no charge. I opted for the whole wheat linguini with tomoatoes, borlotti beans and smoked ham. The portioning was disappointingly small for the price ($17) and came with absolutely nothing other than the smallish bowl of pasta. The pasta was also of very mediocre quality; I have thrown together much tastier pasta dishes at home with little efforts (and I am not much of cook); this definitely was not house made pasta. The smoked ham was tasty, but aside from this the dish was forgettable and my wife's was not any better. This was clearly a small town U.S. interpretation of Italian food and was far from authentic and a very touristy experience. We decided to pass on dessert. The problem with Cucina is it tries to pass itself as a semi-upscale restaurant and has the moderate pricing as part of this illusion. The cuisine, ambiance and service is basically what I am used to receiving at an Italian chain venue; Cucina is basically Olive Garden with some lipstick applied and 33% higher prices for 33% less food. I think Cucina either needs to undergo some upgrades, or needs to just present itself for what it is and not pretend to be a semi-upscale restaurant. If you are staying at the American Club Resort for at least a few days Cucina might be worth a stop (at least for lunch) in order to experience a little variety, but if you are just in town for a weekend get-a-way Kohler definitely has some better offerings.

I went here twice last week while staying at the Inn on Woodlake. The first night we went for a late dinner, around 8 pm. Three of us split the platter for two from the raw bar, which usually comes with 4 gulf shrimp, 4 oysters (2 of each kind), and 2 crab claws. We asked the waitress to substitute oysters for the shrimp and she was able to do that without a problem. The oysters were very fresh and came with fresh lime, tabasco, and a chili/oil sauce, none of which were needed. The restaurant offers a sample of their wine of the day, which was a red Zinfandel both days we were there. The menu had a good variety of appetizers, salads, and main courses. The bread brought to your table is warm from the oven and comes with a large head of roasted garlic, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese. They don't bring enough bread out for all of the garlic, but are happy to bring you more if you ask. The two people I dined with both had pasta, and found it very good. Cucina offers both a small and full sized plate of their pastas. The small is very generous and perfect for a light meal. Entree items from their wood grill are ordered a la cart. There's a price for the main entree, which includes a sauce of your choice served on the side. Vegetable sides are priced separately, so you can mix and match whatever you'd like. I ordered the 3 oz. 21 day aged tenderloin with a side of sauteed wild mushrooms and a truffle demi-glaze for my sauce. The steak was pure perfection - perfectly cooked and tender, with no grizzle or fat. The salt and herbs that were hand rubbed on it were all it needed, so I used the sauce exclusively on my mushrooms, which were a generous serving and delicious all on their own. For desert we split the cannoli (actually 2 cannolis). The filling was delicious, although I found the crust a bit cookie-like. Tea and coffee were good as well. We all liked the steak so much that we went back for dinner the next night. This night we went earlier, 6:30, and both the bar and restaurant were quite full. I'd recommend making a reservation when you go, as without it our wait would have been about 20 minutes. We chose to sit outside this time - Cucina has outdoor seating right along the lake which is lovely. As the restaurant was busy our service was slow, but we didn't really mind. Our waiter gave us significantly more than a "sample" of the wine special that night to make up for our wait. This time we all had the steak, and again it was perfection. For sides we had the mushrooms (again delicious), the asparagus (quite good), and the mushroom risotto (amazing). We all agreed that our favorite sauce was the Gorgonzola Mascarpone, which was creamy and went well with both the mushrooms and when dipped into the risotto. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, but you can dress casually. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly, and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend it!

Food was really good. We both had pasta dishes, one the vodka cream and the other the baked mostacholli. Both sauces were very good and tasted like a upscale itailan restaurant. Wine was good and reasonably priced. Food prices were very cheap. Our olive garden bill is much higher than this one was. I dont understand anyone complaining of prices here. If you know of better places in Chicago at cheaper places - Stop keeping them a secret!!! Ambiance is nice and has a mild energetic feel. I only gave this a 4 because our waiter was slow. The only time he was fast was to bring our meals right after he finally brought our bread and oil out.

I am giving 4-stars to Cucina, but it comes with a very hefty piece of advice: On the weekend of the Food & Wine event, you may want to have more than one bartender. I could see that Erik was struggling to keep up with the 2-3 person deep bar. He handled our 6-person group very well, though, and deserves recognition. He kept a smile on his face. I do not know how well he handled my bar neighbor, David Kohler, but Erik should not be reprimanded for lack of service. He was doing his best. We could tell. Our glasses were never empty, thanks to his recommendation of wine carafes over single glasses. We did have to wait for a martini glass to come back at one point, so another word of advice would be to add more glassware. You should not be running out. Our bruschetta and beef carpaccio came out faster than I expected. Both appetizers were better than I remembered when visiting the restaurant in December of 2010. The quality has improved. I do not know if there has since been a management or chef change, but whatever the change, it worked. On our next visit to Kohler, we will be by to sample some of the other bites. It is definitely a great spot to meet friends for cocktail hour, and you won't break the bank either.

Read the reviews and decided to try it...unfortunately, Meredith nailed it, this place is really mediocre. I suppose reasonable minds could disagree on the decor...I thought it was overdone and garish, I wish they had put the money into better tables and chairs than the strange chandelier and curtains. On food, the bread and baked garlic was good. And the bruschetta was tasty. It went downhill from there. The boxed spaghetti was overdone, and the "meat" sauce was awful...overly sweet, with a few chunks of raw tomato thrown in, it was heavy and without favor. Not sure we ever found any meat in it. I've had better out of a jar. The seafood was mediocre, the accompanying sauces out of synch with the fish. Side vegetable was ok. The wine list was awful. I can't comment on the whites, but the reds were poorly chosen. The few California wines were not good selections (forgivable for an Italian restaurant), but the Italian reds consisted of a few in the $35-50 range that aren't very good, jumping to a wide and deep selection of very good Italian reds in the $125-300 range. A good wine list should have a nice selection of "value" wines in the $30-100 range, and those wines aren't on this list. Service was mediocre. The waitress kept trying to clear dishes before we were done with them. I don't mind paying $$$ for a good quality Italian dinner, but Cucina is charging top dollar for below average food. I'm surprised that the American Club owns this restaurant, it's not up to their standard.

We went here for lunch, and the food was actually great - we ordered the pea salad and two pizzas (the margherita and the one with goat cheese and fig), and our meals were delicious. It's really some of the best pizza I've ever had. The service was a little off - our waitress was awkward and not all that friendly or attentive - but it was lunch, and the food was so good that we didn't care. We ate outside, and the view is really nice. The next night, we figured we'd come back for dinner. Ehh. The pasta dishes just aren't as good as the pizzas, and our server at dinner was even weirder than the one we had at lunch. I do like that smaller portion sizes are available, and the prices are reasonable (especially for a restaurant affiliated with the American Club), but on the whole we weren't super impressed with our dinner at Cucina.

My husband & I did a weekend get away to the American Club and ate lunch here. Very disappointing, particularly since all other places connected to the American Club were top notch! The food tasted like already prepared items that came out of a jar, box or the freezer, were dished up, heated up & served. The plates were hot upon delivery to our table, however, the food was just above warm? I had the gnocchi, they tasted like raw dough smoothered in an inch of cheese which did not have the appearance of freshly melted cheese - but rather was melted a while back & reheated. My husband had the ravioli with bolognese, it too came in a very hot plate, but was cold in the middle and tasted like a frozen pasta dish that was simply heated up. All the servers were very nice, but either they have not received proper training or no one is paying attention. Although they were all running around looking incredibly busy, they were not efficient in any way, hence the need for running around. For lunch our server had 4-5 tables, majority being 2 tops with maybe a 4 top and we were not all seated at the same time, so a very manageable load. It took her 5 minutes to greet us after being seated and then 15 minutes to bring us our ice teas and then another 10 minutes to take our order. Our 30 minutes express lunch (as noted on the menu for what we ordered) took an hour & 15 minutes. Our waitress never inquired to how our meal was once we got to our entrees, so on the way out the hostess asked and I shared my thoughts with regards to the food. She was very kind and took my meal off our bill and apologized that our experience was not a good one. As we were walking out I over heard another couple give high compliments, so maybe we just had a run of bad luck. The atmosphere was very nice and looked very clean, they just need to take some time to work on their wait staff and food quality. Gordan Ramsey would have a field day here.

While staying at the Inn on Woodlake while on a spa weekend, my friend Kristen and I ventured out to Cucina for dinner one night. It's within walking distance of the hotel which makes it super convenient. When you sit down, they bring out bread, oil and large roasted garlic head that is delicious. I ordered a chocolate martini that was really good (but on the small side for sure) . I ordered the lasagna (classic) and I wasn't disappointed. The portion size was large but I was able to clean my plate; it was that good! I especially loved the fact that there were asparagus pieces in the lasagna. Also, it was very cheesy and included a lot of sauce (something I need in a lasagna, or any Italian dish for that matter). There was one part of my meal that I did not enjoy, and that was the bread that came with the lasagna. When our waitress explained that it came with two pieces of bread dipped in butter, I figured she just wasn't explaining it well. When I got my dish, it included two soggy pieces of bread that had been soaked in butter. They were so bad that I couldn't even eat them (I mean _bad_). I have no idea what the chef was thinking in adding that to the dish, it just didn't make any sense. Of course, it was an easy enough remedy to move them off my plate so that I could enjoy the main course. The restaurant itself was just a single large room in a semi-circle. Tables lined the outer wall of the circle and more tables were in the center. Signs hung on the door alerting patrons that the restaurant would be closed soon through April '10 to go through a remodel. Hopefully, they make the space a little more intimate as it almost feels like someone set up a bunch of tables in a gymnasium. Not a great atmosphere to enjoy a nice meal. This place is clearly a destination for tourists and the prices certainly reflect that. While I enjoyed the food, I don't think it was worth the price (ranged from moderate to spendy). With that said, when I'm on vacation in a touristy area, I expect that I'm going to pay a little bit more.

A must when we are in the area. Cucina has never disappointed. The meals are always well portioned and delicious. Oh but the bread...yes please! The roasted garlic, parmesan, and olive oil with the wonderful bread are the main reason we go. Pricey, but you will not be disappointed!

I am generally not impressed by Italian restaurants. Cucina was a great option for us, while staying at the Inn on Woodlake this past weekend. I had the special, which was in honor of Winterfest and had an Alps-type influence (or something like that). It was veal scalopini with Swiss-style potatoes with gruyere cheese and kale. I kind of felt like the waitress pushed me to order it (like maybe they have a quota), but I still really liked it. My husband got the lasagna, which was insanely huge, but he really liked it. I totally do not remember what we had for dessert, but it was probably good. I think this is a good option if you're visiting Kohler, but I just can't get excited about Italian restaurants anymore.

I have eaten at a number of very good to great restaurants in the Sheboygan area and there are MUCH better dining experiences available than Cucina. While the ambiance is great the food overall is average at best, but considering what you pay, it does not hold a candle to other top rated Italian restaurants in the area. The roasted garlic put on the table was a very nice touch. However, my wife had the chicken which was on the overcooked side; the spinach with garlic was good but a dish I could make at home. The mushroom risotto which we had as a side dish was like wallpaper paste - clearly not freshly made and served with one piece of a button mushroom. The pasta dish was just OK. If you have a taste for really good Italian food, Cucina will disappoint. IMHO you pay for the ambiance and not the food.

I would never go back here. The food was not enjoyable, the service was slow, and everything was overpriced. Going here for lunch was the only thing my husband and I regretted doing on our honeymoon!

Tonight was my first visit to Cucina. We (three other golfers and myself) were pleasantly surprised. Our server was very nice and helpful. The 12 oz tenderloin and the veal chop were "wood-grilled" perfectly with a nice choice of sauces. The asparagus was super! The starter salads and the cannoli for dessert were good and we all enjoyed a cappuccino. Inn at Woodlake gave us a 20% discount coupon for the wine flights here; I tried the "Savory and Spicy" flight, which was good (my dinner companions tried the three Chiantis, which were very similar to one another).

Seating was right on time. Bread with garlic, olive oil and cheese was great as usual. Salads were tasty. Dinner was served promptly and was delicious! Dessert was excellent! Wine also! New decor of past year brightened up atmosphere.

The place was nice inside with a view of a lake . When we were seated, we were given a free sample of some wine that they were pushing. It wasn't very good. The waitress became snobby when we did not want to order the wine and wanted to chose another wine with our meal. She warmed up after a while. We had margarita pizza as appetizer (which the restaurant went out of their way to make since it is usually is a lunch item). It was okay. I had a pasta dish with Brussels sprouts (I am not a fan of Brussels sprouts but they were actually edible here and gave the pasta dish an interesting taste!). My husband had the chicken which was very tender. This was a nice place for a low key meal.

Fried artichoke appetizer was good -- though I will say that the artichokes were from a jar or can and fried -- so nothing too involved or complicated. They also serve nice bread. I had the wild boar ragu -- which did have any wild boar -- I am almost positive I know the brand of sauce that was used -- and they spruced it up with some sausage (not homemade) and some raw julienne onion (note to self, don't try this at home). The dish was barely warm. My dining companions had the halbut special -- they got the last 2 at 530 pm -- which struck me as odd given there was one other table occupied in the restaurant -- unless they had offered it at lunch....the dish came with a vinaigrette and one of my companions asked for it on the side. It did not arrive on the side, but the waitperson was quick to point out that it really was in a pool around the sides of the entree. The fish seemed nicely prepared, but everything else on the plate was said to be awful (asparagus had a methane flavor, vinaigrette was heavy handed and sweet, potatoes were mush....) Seemed as though the menu needed to be simplified a bit -- most dishes seemed like they were designed to read well....and in my case, the dish served didn't even resemble what was described on the menu. The interior is nice enough -- and I love a restaurant with maaarbble columns. Hey a...how you doin? Who eats here? The Pope? (see SNL skit video.aol.com/video-deta… ) The seat by the window provided a nice view of the lake and a few guys fishing -- we watched as they caught a decent size northern, and the proceeded to clean it. I have had fish deboned tableside before, but this was a totally new experience. I should note that management had the good sense to go outside and ask them to stop the fishtrocity. I have heard that they have nice pizzas and salads -- if I did return I would probably stick to that...

My girlfriend and I recently had dinner at Cucina as part of a weekend getaway at the American Club. For a bit more $$$ we had the option to upgrade to The Immigrant Restaurant, but after reviewing both menus decided to play it safe and go with the Italian option (other reasons - she's not into game bird dishes, and ok, I admit it - didn't want to have to wear a suit jacket). We had a Saturday 8 pm reservation, arrived a bit early so enjoyed a drink at the bar. Bartender was friendly and very knowledgeable about the dinner menu and wine options, so by the time our table was ready we had a good grip on what to order. --Ambiance: This was the best aspect of the evening in my opinion, was hoping for a romantic setting and got it. Picturesque round dining area with a warm and intimate feel to it. --Service: Ehh, arguably a bit weak for the caliber of restaurant they are aiming to be. Agree with others that at times things felt a bit awkward. Staff seemed to be overtaxed the evening we were there. --Drink: Solid wine menu, but found it odd that their recommendation/special for the evening was Joel Gott rather than something from Italy? --Food: Bread and dipping oil was excellent (what's not to love about whole fresh roasted garlic), as was the caprese di mozzarella. Capellini pasta wasn't bad, but certainly nothing special. Same with the rib eye, just ok, and for $38 was hoping it would be exceptional. Overall, a decent dining experience, but nothing memorable.

A good dining experience at the Shops at Woodlake in Kohler, Wisconsin. I had the chicken tortellini with red onion, pine nuts and marsala sauce while my husband had the fettuccine with alfredo sauce. Both were good, though we have had better. The meal started off with great, warm crusty bread from the oven in the kitchen served with oil and cheese. My husband and myself also order the caprese salad which was fresh and delicious!! I had the special salad of the evening (mozzarella on mesclun greens with vinaigrette) and my husband had minestrone soup. Both were good, but the vinaigrette tasted like a store-bought brand and I was hoping for something more fresh and unique. We did not have dessert because we were full, but the tiramisu looked great. The service was great! The view was of the Woodlake and was just lovely. Very quaint restaurant and overall something to try when you are in Kohler.

Kinda heard good things about this place, so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, we didn't get a reservation. We weren't told we needed one. Got there and with no one waiting and free tables abounding, were told they basically couldn't seat us. Went back the next day for lunch. Passable at best, no better than olive Garden.Just a disappointment. My wife had a pasta dish and I had the stuffed ravioli. Both were just not very good, especially considering the price. If you desire to go, make sure you get a reservation, as they may not seat you if you come without one.

The restaurant is located in the retail shopping area that co-exists with the American Club. It is an inviting looking space with a lots of windows (and light) and overlooks the lake. We went on a recent evening and were unimpressed. The appetizer was served luke warm. We had to beg for rolls (every other table seemed to get them without asking). After a responsive showing in terms of providing drinks and appetizers, it took a while for our entrees to show up (more than 30 minutes from delivery of our appetizers; we were the table that time forgot). I assume the kitchen was slammed or forgot our orders or something. The entrees, once they arrived, were uninspired and poorly executed versions of what they purported to be.

We tried this place again on New Years Eve. First off the place is very well done, it has a nice atmosphere and ambiance to it. I didn't care for the ala carte pasta, if your paying $19 for pasta you should have a dish locked down, that's spectacular! This was not the case. The dish I ordered was Cappellini Pasta w/Garlic Cream Sauce and Seafood. The dish was alright nothing that left me wanting to go back. For an appetizer I had the Beef Carpaccio which was very good but I was amazed of how small of a portion you rec'd for how much it was. If everything wasn't so high in price it would of rec'd 4 stars but for what your paying for noodles it could be much better.

I went here on Carolynne's recommendation and what a find. We sat outside overlooking the lake for lunch. Salads were good size and fresh. Bread was warm and fresh and tasted great dipped into fresh grated parmasean cheese and olive oil. Pizza selections were unique. We ordered the lobster pizza and it did not disappoint. This place was a find!

I was a tad hesitant about this place, I mean, what are the odds of getting a great Italian restaurant in a strip mall in Wisconsin? But Cucina did not disappoint. Seated in a round, terra cotta hued room with white pillars overlooking a lake, the setting was very pleasant and serene. Bread came to the table with olive oil and a whole head of roasted garlic. Between this and our bottle of Merlot it would have been enough for me, but then my Mussels arrived. A huge heaping bowl of the most fragrant, succulent shellfish in a tomato basil broth, topped with 4 thin, toasted bread slices which were covered in butter & herbs. As a native New Englander who takes her seafood very seriously, this was among the best I had ever tried. My dining companion had the minestrone soup, which was thick & hearty along with a pasta dish that had a beef & sausage sauce. We left with very full stomachs and a reminder to visit this lovely gem next time we were in the area.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
