One of the best pizzas in town.

This is probably the most disgusting place in K-town and that is saying a LOT. From its tacky, lurid decor to its entirely frozen/defrosted menu, to its queen monarch thunder c*nt owner; everything about this place is a god awful mess. A couple pro tips: Don't bother ordering a steak less than well done. You'll get it well done anyway, because burning it is the only way for the "chef" to rid the meat of its moldy, green sheen. Ordering lasagna? The top crust of mold will be sliced off, more store bought sauce will be slopped on, and it'll come to you freshly nuked from the microwave. For some bizarre reason, they serve St. Patrick's day corned beef and cabbage. Yeah. Well, naturally IN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT it typically doesn't sell well. But never fear! The chef will make good use of the left over meat- by using it in soup. In June. The filth in the walk in... You don't even want to know about it, and my gorge is rising thinking about it. Just remember the words rotten, old, and cross contaminated when you place your order. Thank me later. I'm not making this up, and yes I speak from experience Maybe if the owner spent more time monitoring what's going on in her kitchen and less time staring at her bartenders through a closed circuit camera in her office, the place wouldn't be in such a shambles. Oh who am I kidding, yes it would. King Gordon Ramsay himself couldn't save this s**t hole. And he'd probably faint if he actually walked in there. Oh, and the pizza? You're better off getting a Totino's at your local frozen foods section. It'll taste better and you'll be safer, to be perfectly direct. Avoid this place. Your intestines will appreciate it. One day Villa D Carlo will kill someone. Mark my words.

So disappointed! I had four guests and their children at the house and we decided to order supper from Villa D'Carl's. Ordered and went to Pick up order. $67.00 -3 pizzas, one lasagna, equaled four u satisfied customers who won't be back. Order was messed up and not ready for pick up. They quick Tried to get it ready. We received a Bland lasagna with imitation sausage very little cheese, u flavorful sauce, and it was not good. Pizzas Also, bland, and tasteless. It was not a crispy crust & undercooked. Called to tell them how disappointed we all were and were told it's our own personal preference. No it's bad food and bad customer service.

Don't eat anything but the pizza and you will enjoy your experience save for the occasional inept server. The decor is garish by fine dining standards but fun. This is not a big city so manage your expectations.

This was the thinnest pizza i have ever had. The soups and appetizers were also delicious. You get a free tiramisu on your first check in which is nice. The only bad thing i could say was the service. The drinking glasses are quite small and they don't do refills often.

Wow ordered a pizza from villa d Carlo it was the worst I've ever experienced it took over an hour and when it got here every thing was cold 42 dollars later plus tip never again. I won't recommend this place to anyone. We had to put food in microwave really .

Most of the time the food here is very good... sometimes they over-do-it on the sauces but the best thing here to me is the "fried spinach ravioli". It's good eating..

It was an unseasonably cold day in late April. My friend with benefits and I decided to fuel up before we made love. We headed to downtown kenosha to evaluate our options. As we drove north I looked to my right and couldn't help but admire the vast beauty of Lake Michigan. The water was especially blue that day, much like the eyes of the girl in my passenger seat. Suddenly, my blue eyed companion said "Oh look! Villa D'Carlo! I went there when I was 15 and it was pretty good. Are you up for Italian?" As I pondered her proposition, I noticed a parking spot directly in front of said restaurant. I took this as a sign, and replied "ok, sounds good". We entered the restaurant and were immediately greeted by a homely brunette woman in her early thirties. Although she didn't smell like cigarettes, I could tell she was a smoker. She guided us to the main dining area and I immediately noticed we were the only people there. At first it felt cool. It was similar to one of those mafia movies where the guys have an entire restaurant to themselves. It wasn't until I noticed the fake geese hanging from the ceiling, that I realized it was beginning to feel anxious. I also noticed a scarecrow posed to look like it was gardening the faux lavender vine along the walls of the tacky establishment. This was the point where we decided to order wine in order to cope with our apprehensions of what was to come next. As I glanced over the menu, I searched for spaghetti and meatballs. I could only find something called "spaghetti with meatball", meaning one meatball. I laughed it off and decided to order the chicken Parmesan, thinking it's impossible to mess that up. My lady ordered ravioli. When the food arrived it smelled horrid. The ravioli looked like somebody ate a can of spaghettios and then puked it up. It was so bad that we sent it back and asked to have it taken off the bill, much to the displeasure of our waitress. My chicken parm was not much better, but I boxed it up and gave it to a homeless person. Even he looked disappointed. The bill came out to $40 even after the subtraction of the ravioli. This was one of the worst places I have ever been, and I've been to jail. I highly advice against giving dining at this poor excuse for an Italian restaurant.

I wish I could give this place a 5 star review as it truly a Kenosha tradition but I can't. There are times it is great, and times it is terrible...the question is ...What time is it today. I just wish they were consistent, as in the past.

Worst service ever. The restaurant opens at 4PM. We were a little early so we wait at one of the outdoor tables. They open but no server comes out to the table. So I go in to inquire about service. I'm told the outdoor server will be in at 4:30PM. OK, that's not long, so we wait a bit, along with 8 to 10 others that have arrived and are now sitting at the outside tables. It now quarter to 5PM and still no service. So I go in to ask about service and is informed there is no outside service tonight. The staff knows there are customers waiting for outdoor dining service, you think someone would come out to explain. I use to enjoy going here every summer. I will never retune agiain.

Another shortage of cheese after ordering and paying extra for it. We have Been trying other pizzerias since my last comment and never had a problem with Valeos, derangoes or Cassa Capri. Where you actually get what you pay for instead of lining someone's pockets for nothing received.

The best Italian restaurant in Kenosha. Good food, good prices, nice place to sit and relax.

  • Tony B.

Forgot to mention, and we didn't know what to expect by it, but the "relish tray" that comes with the entrees, is really a plate that is 1/2 pasta salad and 1/2 kidney bean salad. Both were decent tasting, but keep that in mind as we thought it was going to be something different. Our fault for not asking. Also, they had a decent looking daily specials menu, but after trying their standard menu items, I would be suspect on the specials.

Meh. You want the best pie in town? Casa Capri. As for the rest of the menu, I can make it better at home and for A LOT cheaper.

  • Conly D.

Wow. I am a thin crust snob and wow! Their sauce is crazy good. It's a robust flavor that really compliments everything. The sausage you ask? Top of the line! My wife is from the Kenosha area and having been raised in the pizza mecca, I was shocked to learn about Kenosha and their really excellent eateries. I have honestly had some of the best meals I can recall there and I recommend them to everyone.

Went with the Hot Wing Pizza, it was pretty dry, the outer edges had several pieces of just crust with no cheese or toppings. Forgot about my fries, sat another 5 minutes and got finally got the rest of my order. When I finally got home, had maybe 20 fries in the $3.95 "basket" I paid for, and the two liter of soda felt like it was sitting next to the pizza oven. Also missing the sauce that was supposed to come with it. The whole place had a feeling of being very unmanaged and hectic. I don't know why I gave this place another shot, guess I figured it was my duty as a Kenoshan. EDIT: Just edited down to a 1. I couldn't figure out why my soda tasted soo weird, look at the date on the bottle -- October 21 2013... 10 months expired. Will not visit again.

Went there for the first time last weekend. We had mozzarella sticks and pizza. It was the best pizza place I've ever been to in my life. They let you color on the tables!!! It was really cool. The waitress was really nice.

You will certainly appreciate the food at Fazoli's after eating here. VIlla D Carlo is a shining example of what a low quality, poor-tasting pizza restaurant should look like. You can also visit here to witness a sloppy business slowly spinning down its own toiletbowl which probably gets cleaned once per month and before major holidays. One walk through this place will demonstrate Kenosha's Finest Lakefront pizza diner and fly factory. If you're looking for a tacky, run-down eatery to grab a bit to eat with the family, you might wanna change things up and try the pizza at this genuine insult to Italy.

I think Tuesday evening was our last time at this restaurant. No consistency - one visit good; next awful. I don't take issue with the decor - it's old and the decorations are way overdone, but it's part of the charm. I do take issue to waiting for a hostess to return to the desk when there is no line. After more than five minutes (that should have been my first clue that things weren't good), she disappeared again for quite awhile. After being seated, it took another five minutes to be acknowledged by a server and another five for him to return with menus. We decided quickly what we wanted so when the server returned to take our drink order we were ready to place the food order as well. There were five in our party, yet the server brought a basket with four pieces of bread. Three in our party ordered pizza, one ordered chicken parm and I asked about the stuffed prime rib special - in particular, I was told it was stuffed with sautéed mushrooms. This is what I ordered. The pizza came out ten minutes before the two entrees, our appetizer never arrived, the chicken was rubbery and my prime rib was stuffed with mushroom, onions and cheese. The pizzas were good, but everything else, not so much. When I questioned the server about the prime rib, he didn't seem to understand the issue. Poor service and bad food equated to a 10% tip (I couldn't bring myself to stiff the kid completely). Upon leaving I asked the bartender if there was a manager available and she said she was. I told her about the experience and although she apologized, I did't get the feeling she cared. The pizza was good, but Kenosha offers lots of good pizza joints so I will spend my money elsewhere from now on. This restaurant needs to regroup and get back to what it was or it risks losing more and more business. Such a shame!

We used to LOVE this place- it's been a family fav since my parents were high school sweethearts. Tonight we were disappointed by a marked change. We noticed it right away: the lighting was sterile, like an office-a far cry from the cozy ambiance of the past. Our waitress was moody and brusque...rolling her eyes and acting mystified when I showed her my Yelp award for a free tiramisu (she insisted in taking my iPhone from me to examine the screen...very awkward)! The food was subpar. On the whole, we left feeling disheartened and might not be back...at least, not for quite some time.

  • Jeremy B.

Cool place, but bland, watery pasta, and we were charged $3.50 for a small piece of italian bread and butter that came before our meal. This was not communicated to us, and was unexpected and disappointing. What Italian restaurant charges for a tiny bread basket? The pizza wasn't anything special. I don't think we'll be ordering it again. During my previous visit, I noticed that a Yelp "free dessert" deal was available for checking in. I showed the server, and he told me to "activate" the deal. Then he came back, said I hadn't spent the requisite $25 to get my free tiramisu, and because he activated the deal already, I lost it. This place does not get an "A" for effort..

Nice Italian place in Kenosha. Pizzas were very good. I had the five minute sauce pasta and it is a very tasty mix of tomatoes, garlic, red peppers and other spices. Worth a stop.

On the search for a great Italian joint?? Well you found it! The location could not be better since it's across from the Lake inlet and Simmons Island featuring the old Kenosha's Southport Light Station & House. Whether you choose to sit outside at the side garden patio, the sidewalk in front (hope you don't mind all the roaring Harley bypassers), or the plant-shop interior, they start you off with delicious pasta, red bean salads and bread. You can't go wrong with their thick Lasagna layered with ground Italian sausage, mozzarella cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs and topped with red tomato sauce or meat-filled Ravioli. Enjoy both at a great price with the Italian Combo Plate (1/2 Lasagna, 2 Ravioli and Mostaccioli served with red tomato sauce). Remember: The parking lot behind is a plus. Best Italian place in Kenosha!

They're slipping a little on the rank-o-meter. I still believe their pizza is their strongest dish but I've only ordered delivery from them the past few times. They should make their dine-in experience a little more inviting. The simplicity of coloring on the paper table cover is always fun but there needs to be more atmosphere to the dining room.

Horrible service. The server was actually looking at us waiting for her to return and laughing with her coworker. The interior is like a craft store LSD trip. And the food is NOT worth the price. Do not go there!!!!!

I'm sad to say that I'm ready to give up on Villa D'Carlo. The slow, downward spiral of the past 20 years is reaching an irretrievable low, and my gastrointestinal tract is just not prepared to witness the demise. Tonight, my siblings and I visited this one-time favorite for dinner and were truly disappointed. I had the gnocchi, which were of a good consistency, but the marinara had a bleach taste to it. I'm guessing they forgot to rinse the pan. My brother's soup was "like Campbell's, but with something added to hide it." This is not an isolated experience. The decor has *really* gotten out of hand. It used to be one of the classier-looking places in town with the high-backed, semi-circular leather booths, smoked glass, mirrors and low lighting. Now it has become an overwhelming nightmare of kitsch, with at least 3 holidays worth of garish crap covering every surface. Tonight, in mid-January, it looked like St. Valentine's Day vomited all over Christmas and Halloween. Dead branches covered in glitter and Christmas lights? A scarecrow in winter clothes with a shovel, surrounded by stuffed animals and leering over the fireplace? Big, red hearts, snowmen, and red lights over the rest? It's Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Valentine's Day. Had this place been in any other location, they wouldn't have survived this long.

The pizza was tasty, but didn't arrive with our entrées. The pasta across the board was overcooked and lacked seasoning. The service was slow but pleasant.

Had a great Spring Sunday at the lake, including lunch here. Our potato dill soup was excellent, with warm bread and delicious pasta and bean salads. We were stuffed by the time our entrees arrived but enjoyed a few bites anyway. No room for dessert and we'll be back to try the popular pizza. Nice location near the lake after a tour of those beautiful homes. We were happy to find a local place away from the franchises on Rt. 50.

My daughter & I went to Villa D' Carlo for dinner last night and it was by far the worst meal that I have ever had. We could barely stomach the few bites that we ate and the service was marginal at best. Villa D' Carlo used to be such a great place to go for a meal, but I'm afraid that I will never go back. I'm still nauseated just thinking about it!

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. OK, the decor is the most ridiculous stuff you could ever see. It looks just like a Hobby Lobby barfed all over everything. It's simply absurd. My wife's mom grew up in Kenosha, and her entire family continues to buy extra pizzas, freeze them, and take them back in their luggage to their various cities. I've never had anything but the pizza (well, I had a salad once; it was meh), and, while I'm reasonably easy to please, I thought it was phenomenal. But maybe that was just because I love the decor so much. AND CRAYONS! They have paper tablecloths and cups of crayons. I sit there and draw pictures like a five-year-old. Don't listen to the naysayers. You don't go to Carl's for good food (except pizza). You go for fun times, crayons, and fake snow and deer and plastic ivy all over the walls.

Although we have often ordered their pizza for delivery and have usually enjoyed it, we haven't visited D'Carlo's to dine in for a year or more. We decided to stop by tonight. We were seated promptly in the busy but not crammed dining room. My menu was split at the fold and should have been retired several customers ago. We reviewed the menu, decided what to order and waited for our server...and waited some more. Although there was activity all around us - we watched as the busboy cleared and set the table in front of us - no one from the staff so much as acknowledged our presence. No water. No, "I'm sorry, I'll be right with you." No nothing. A good 10 to 15 minutes passed before we began to review our options, finally deciding to take our business down the street the the Italian American Club. We got up, claimed our coats and left. The host who had seated us was busy setting up the table behind us and cluelessly wished us goodnight as we passed him.

"Kenosha's giant drop of slippage belongs to..." The best pizza memories I have ever had were at Villa D'Carlo's. Apply the best sauce, ingredients, thin crust (with cornmeal on the bottom) and a commitment to consistent excellence, but slowly strip it of character, tradition and frequently char the crust, so the world's best pizza is a pathetic imitation of its former greatness. The decor is attractive and fitting of its price range, but the service has been slow and scatter-brained for the past several years. I recall bragging to my wife about the food and the restaurant a number of years ago, only to see it not meet those expectations. Several visits since have further diminished the luster and appeal that the restaurant gave me dozens of times in the past. Other entrees have never met the peaks the pizza has, but they are also less consistent and suffered from increasingly marginal sauce. The diehards may read this and be appalled, but face facts. The restaurant is nowhere near what it used to be and people are throwing away cash on reputation and ill-gotten word-of-mouth.

Great food, we love this spot, esp in the summer for outside if you can get a table. Inside is a bit tacky on the decor.

I just moved here from Illinois and I was told this was the best place for pizza. It was a nice day and people were sitting outside and the dining room was pretty full so I was really psyched about the place. Needless to say I was very disappointed. For an appetizer we had the basket with cheese sticks, mushrooms ( I can't remember what they called it) and it was ok. It seemed it all came from the freezer..something I could get at any bar and grill. Then we waited for the pizza...and waited...and waited. When it finally came it looked good but last time I checked isn't pizza supposed to be hot not warm. It is like 20ft from the where they make the pizza's to the table. The waitress offered to bring a new pizza but being it took 40 minutes to get to the table her offer was declined. That being said it wasn't bad but could have better if hotter. I will give them another try in the future.

We hadn't been to Villa Di Carlo in a couple of years and thought we would give it a try again. It used to be our restaurant of choice on special occasions, but it became just too pricey to celebrate every birthday, etc. there. We waited 5 minutes after entering the restaurant to be seated. There was no one at the front desk. We were seated in the area upstairs by the window. Their Halloween/Fall decorations were up and the blinking lights were so annoying I had to change seats with my back to them, only to have them still reflect in the window. So much for that solution. The waitress was attentive and nice, but the 1/2 lb. burger is just too much for one person (why not offer a 1/4 lb. burger for a lesser price? My husband left half of it. My broasted chicken was super salty and I had to remove all the skin and batter so that I could eat it. I have to agree with the other reviewer who said that the place is going downhill. Maybe we might go back again when we have our grandchildren with us for their pizza, but not even sure of that. Wish it was the same place we used to enjoy.

This place is precisely A-OK. The mozzarella sticks: just slightly above average. The server pointed out that they were home made. But I've always assumed all food (including appetizers) at restaurants was home made... So... ??? The salad: don't bother. It's just some lettuce/ spinach, with a bit of carrot shavings, a single slice of tomato + a single black olive. Like too many places, Villa D' Carlo does the bare minimum when it comes to dinner salads. The pizza: decent thin crust pizza. Nothing stellar, but not disappointing either. The service was great though! Our server brought us a whole pitcher of water, and when we asked for lemon, she brought us a whole plateful of it (and we were very appreciative!).

The biggest mistake of my night. The sever was slow and not friendly. The steak was cook wrong, They didn't take it off the bill. We didn't even eat the steak. The table that we reserved a head of time was given to another party. I could write a book about the disappointing events! The waitress even started yelling at me!!!! The owner/ manager should have come to our table but no one showed up. I couldn't believe it. We had friends from out of town and it was so unpleasant the whole thing. Think long and hard before walking into this restaurant. OMG , OMG

The pizza is OK (but there is better nearby). The pasta was horrible. Completely overcooked and the sauce tasted like it came from a can. I didn't tasted any seasoning. It's a shame as it is a Kenosha landmark. I will never come back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
