Outstanding Chicken, fish and service! Ok, first of all, i am more than satisfied with the Broasted chicken, potatoes and gravy and the stuffing! Those three items alone earn 4 stars! Outstanding!!!! The wide variety of fish available for the fish fry is impressive and delicious but I prefer going straight for the perch. Something that makes this place so unique is the batter they use for the chicken and fish, perfection! Service is always impeccable! Always surpassing expectations. It's one of the rare family style places you will love. They only down marks I would give are only because of personal preference, in this part of the world people enjoy vinegar based foods. I can't say I am a fan. However, I do know what it should taste like and if you like this kind of European flavor then you are in for an extra treat!!! I have been a number of times and I will be returning many more! Awesome for groups. Big, fast bar. Game room for waiting. A bit loud and definitely a hall atmosphere, but let's face it, you are their to eat! Oh, and they even throw in a massive dessert tray!!!!

I called on thanksgiving with a simple question and the person who answered said "f@#% you and hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to a manager and she said no then hung up on me. In addition to the lower quality food, I have no plan to go here ever again.

What a great location and family owned business! Ideal space for hosting a large wedding reception or corporate event. We had the pleasure of providing entertainment for a corporate event at Van Abel's. If you're considering this venue for your wedding or corporate event, check out our blog: felixandfingers.com/van-… We hope to be back soon!

I like the pickles and the game room. It is a fun place to hang out on Friday night with my family. The chocolate milk is homemade, they give you a pitcher of it. I think kids would like it. I love the broasted chicken (I don't usually like chicken, but it is that good).

My family and friends of my family all came here after my Grandpa's funeral, and we took over half of the largest dining room there and they had a buffet meal and people brought dessert to share which was nice. They let us set up all; the various flowers and photo boards and memorabilia from my Grandpa on some tables in the corner. The bathrooms were spacious, and they had a separate bathroom for handicapped and families. Parts of the hallway smelled really badly of water damage or something slightly moldy, and that is why they lost a star.

They have the BEST chicken with all the fixin's. Has a big bar. Very family friendly place that the kids will love it. They have a big game room for the kids. My entire family goes there about twice every 6th months. They have huge tables in a huge area for party's. I've seen Bill Jartz their before, so you know it's good. Great place with great service

Best broasted chicken anywhere and awesome customer service. I have eaten here well over 20 times in my life and it is consistent. They have an awesome wedding reception service as well (with a long wait list). My Grandpa eats here about 50 times per year on Sundays and they know him by name - some waitresses and the hostess even came to my Grandma's funeral. You cannot beat that small town customer service. Drinks are good and strong too.

Pros: Their broasted chicken is some of the best I have ever had. Their portions are large and consistent. And they have been a staple in Hollandtown for many decades. You have real history there. Cons: Their serving style. We had ordered two dinners of chicken and a dinner of pan-fried pike between the three of us. Before the meals even came out our waitress brought us plates of sour cream, a huge pile of butter, pickles, cole slaw, and lemons. It just seemed a bit odd because only one of use had ordered a baked potato and one of us had fish. Couldn't they have saved the plates, table space (and heck, dish water) and put the lemon, butter and sour cream on that single plate? I know they do offer family style meals, but we didn't order that. We had ordered individual dinners. The second negative we had was the slow service. Although the place wasn't busy, we waited a long time for our first plates to come out. And lastly, please get rid of the dust collecting fake plants. Easy fix.

Yikes! Not good to hear about the tales below! I hope that Van Abel's works to fix those issues. That aside, I think Van Abel's has great chicken. As a grandchild of a woman that loved the Sunday supper clubs, my family frequented many broasted chicken establishments over the years (20+). This has always been my favorite. The Chicken is crisp, and seasoned. I love the three bean salad and coleslaw. I agress with the previous review about the rolls...boring. The potatoes and stuffing are alright, but my favorite favorite dish are the creamy green beans. I like it so much we created the recipe at home! Van Abel's is worth a try. I have always had good food and good service.

The broasted chicken: The best you'll ever have...period. The green been dish...is even better than that. The pan fried pike.....to die for. I don't know that I've ever tried the steak...why would I? Van Abel's food is consistently great. It's a non-issue. I know what to expect. The only problem is that I have a hard time ordering anything new, because I know how good the pan-fried pike is! I keep saying that I'll order the perch next time, but never do. The potatoes and the dressing are out of this world. I'm surprised how many other big time supper clubs in the area serve instant potatoes....doesn't happen here! The green beans....you've got to have the green beans! The local radio station has had entire days when they call in with recipes, and the only thing discussed is trying to replicate Van Abel's green beans. You don't have to be too smart to figure out that means that they're good!
