Waitress is great. The twice baked potato was not! It tasted like half fresh and half fake. It's not in the skin...needs salt blah. The French onion soup was bland. The shrimp on the rock was awful. The fish and chips were soggy. The place needs someone who can cook, blend flavors, season, and so much more.

FIRST time there in a long time. Had Irish nachos very filling. Glad only got half order. Also had St Patty melt good but could had more grilled onions could not taste the onion. I will be back again.

The food here is delicious. The reubens are the best I've ever had. Belfast bombers are amazing. Spinach dip is creamy and rich. Bangers and mash are always delectable. Irish nachos are fun and tasty! My only issue is that sometimes the servers are cranky. I get that you're busy but a smile goes a long way. I'm tipping you, if you want more money, be nice to me.

I'm a sucker for old fashioned bars. Nice and dark with wood tables and intimate booths. This place has all of that. Good drinks, great food. Extremely packed on St Patrick's day, but that's too be expected.

You can't go wrong if you want a nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal with a friend or some after work drinks. The food is a little bit above average when it comes to bar food, the drinks are pretty good too. On weekends they have live bands that will show up and play. However, they don't really have a stage area, so the bands set up in various spots that can make it a little awkward if you're trying to get around. The bathrooms have always been clean and well maintained, which tells me that the kitchen is probably clean too. I would recommend this for a night out.

This is a special shout out to Austin Elite Jeremy S. What a guy! Not the least bit presumptuous or pretentious and definitely doesn't walk around with a thesaurus in his back pocket. In his honor, I'll write this review in his voice. Affable, receptive, cordial service in a paradigmatic Anglo Celtic drinkery. They serve a voluminous selection of Irish, Continental and American beers. The bartendresses didn't have a particularly well informed knowledge of the products they were serving, but they were quite generous in lavishing tastes of beers on tap and were magnificently attentive to our needs. The menu is more in line with the sports bars of this land, but there are several traditional Irish items available. I felt the bar was kind of quiet for a Friday night, but the folks in attendance were a younger, friendly, more subdued set. I promise I actually talk like this. I'm writing my dissertation. I'm Jeremy.

Holy cow! What great food! I decided to come with my mother and sister here on Mother's Day and the food was fantastic. Really really good burger that came on a pretzel bun. Puts Culver's and AJ Bombers to shame. Moms and sis decided to get the shepherds pie and also enjoyed it. Only reason I deducted one star was due to the service. Our waitress either seemed bored or extremely tired. Either way, wasn't proper customer service. Still, I'll be sure to come back to get one of the best burgers in the area and maybe have a pint.

A super cute and cozy place. I'd give it five stars for ambiance (clean, nicely decorated, dim lighting done right, live music that was noticeable but not overbearing, etc.). If I had gone there for the purposes of hanging out at a bar, I'd have been really happy. I went for dinner, though, and my food was just so-so. I ordered the chicken and chips, touting beer-battered chicken tenders and a choice of side - I went with mashed potatoes. The chicken was cooked well but the batter lacked flavor and fell off the second you cut into the meat. The mashed potatoes were incredibly bland - I don't think there was any seasoning (even salt) and I ended up having to add a bunch of butter to make it palatable (usually I eat my mashed potatoes plain). The chips were homemade and were actually fantastic (and were chips in the American sense). I had figured they meant chips to be fries, and that was the one side unless you specified otherwise. I'm glad they showed up on my plate, though, as they were the best part about my meal. The food on my friends' plates looked great and they seemed happy with their choices, so I think mine was just a case of ordering the wrong thing on what seems to be a decent menu.

BEST Reuben I've ever had! Friendly staff, great service, and wonderful ambience. Husband said the fish fry was outstanding as well. If we ever pass back through Janesville we will certainly stop by!

O'Riley and Conway's is my favorite place in Janesville. They created a comfortable, traditional Irish setting with private wooden booths and classic old photos of the city. Their beer list is by far the best in Janesville. This is the only spot in downtown Janesville that I like to go. I give it my highest recommendation. You need to check it out!

This was recommended by someone we thought would like good food. Boy was he right. The best fish fry we have had in WI in 16 years living here. Very good ST

We went here for dinner and drinks and were very impressed. Starting with drink selections, I have rarely been so impressed with the variety of top shelf drink choices. The wine list was more than adequate for my companions discerning tastes and the list of premium whisky's and scotch's was better than any I've seen outside of a major metropolitan city. To top it all off prices were more than reasonable. We tried their version of scotch eggs for an appetizer and we're happy with them except I would request the sauce on the side in the future, it was a bit overwhelming in flavor drizzled over them. Dinner came and once again were very happy. I had the Irish Stew which I would definitely order again; perfection seasoned with no need even for salt or pepper, and with the right ratio of meat to vegetables. My wife had the shepards pie and it was good also, pretty par for the course for a shepards pie. Our friend had the chicken sandwich with rasher bacon also highly recommended. Soups and side salads were also of excellent quality and clearly prepared in house. The service was also of a top notch quality. The waitststaff was thoroughly attentive to our need a without being annoying. All considered an easy five star review and we will definitely be returning.

I went to dinner here with my family last week. We had a party of 8 and they were perfectly accommodating. Our service was great. The server was friendly, polite, and our orders arrived in a timely fashion. I ordered the Irish Fish and Chips. I loved it. The fish was cooked wonderfully and great quality. The chips were clearly made in house and I loved them. Some of my family members had the Shepards Pie. They said it was delicious, and an excellent dish. Everyone was very happy with their meals and drinks. If you are looking for a pub that has classy, yet casual atmosphere I'd indefinably recommend coming here. It's certainty a step up from many of the cheaper, dive bar-esque places in town.

I lived in Ireland while I was in college, and let me tell you the Irish Stew and Bangers n Mash were right on par! The stew was a little heavy on the mushrooms for me and could've done for more carrots and potatoes, but that's a personal preference. They were still delicious! The banger sausage was full of flavor and paired well with Smithwicks. The potatoes were perfect, fluffy, and flavorful. Also, the Kerry rolls are an awesome spin on an Irish traditional fare. The salad was very fresh and they have the BEST tomato basil soup I have EVER had....EVER! Hands down our new favorite restaurant in Janesville!!

Great selection of on tap beer and not all of them are IPA's which is nice for a change as a dark beer drinker. Ordered the black bean soup which was very good and vegetarian safe. Also had the Fish & Chips - the fish was fresh the way it is supposed to be and beer batter was delicious. Also had a mahi-mahi fish taco which contained a generous serving of fish. Service was super friendly and restaurant is full of cute nooks and crannies and sparkling clean.

First time here, definitely pleasantly surprised. The outside of the building does not do it any justice. The inside is nicely done and you feel like your in an Irish pub. If you love ruebans this one will change your life.

The best selectiin of craft beers around.Absolutely the best Irish food and innovative menu in Janesville. The atmosphere and craftsmanship of the wood working is second to none. A must stop for anyone visiting Janesville, Wisconsin.

Having lived in Janesville for two years now I haven't visited many of the downtown establishments. This was my first visit to O'Riley and Conway's Irish Pub and I am very pleased with my experience. I met a friend for drinks and my first impression was that it definitely had an Irish feel to it. When walking in there was live Irish music playing and the decor matched what other Irish Pubs looked like that I have been to. There was a good selection of beers on tap and I went with a Spotted Cow first. My friend did a Blue Moon. The beer was the correct temperature and the only thing that I would say would need fixing is that the beer had no head on it. Not sure why there wasn't any. My second beer was a Busted Knuckle. As for the prices of the beer I felt they were decent and in the range of what I am used to paying in Janesville. So, if you are in the area and find yourself in downtown Janesville, this is definitely a place you should check out. I returned to O'Riley and Conway's Pub on 8/22/2013 to meet a friend and this time I was able to order some food. Let me tell you that I am so glad I did. I had the Conway Burger, which is a 1/2 lb burger and I added provolone and apple bacon. I have, in my opinion, found the best burger in Janesville. Having gone to almost all of the chain burger joints, this burger clearly is superior to all of them. It will be hard for me to go back to any other place and order a burger when I know this place has the best in town. As an update to my previous comments on the beer having no head, this time around the waiter I had knew how to pour a good beer. The head was still small but at least this time there was one. At this time I will still say it is a 4 star establishment that you need to check out.

Good service. A little on the slow side especially considering there were few others in the place at a late lunch time. Love the atmosphere. Nice beer selection on tap. I loved the classic Reuben with a thick slice of melt in your mouth corned beef, gooey cheese and a yummy house sauce. I had the cranberry walnut slaw on the side which was a new twist and really good. My husband enjoyed the house burger which was topped with a split banger and pub fries on the side. It was flavorful and perfectly cooked. This was our first time here and definitely plan to return.

Went with weading party! Cool place for a group or just a few. This place has a cool inviting vibe that is welcoming as well as fun. Food was full of flavor and well plated. I do not drink but this place has one of the largest bars ever.

Food is amazing here..we love the spinach artichoke dip with bread and the shrimp wrapped bacon appetizer. Drinks are a bit expensive but the atmosphere is great and they play great music. Waitress are great and we never have trouble getting more to drink but the food was a bit slow.

I had heard from a friend about O'Riley and Conway's Irish Pub from a friend that lives in Janesville. Since I love Irish food, when we were passing through, my wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. The parking is a little difficult. It's located on a one way street and there is parking on the street. The lot next to the building has many stalls marked with signs saying parking by permit only Monday through Saturday. Just be prepared. The interior is nice enough; it has an old Irish Pub feel. We were seated in the front area, where it felt a little cramped. It was like they tried to cram as many tables as possible into the area with no regard to personal space. I could clearly hear the conversations of the tables next to us while trying to converse with my wife. The menus had a variety of Irish influenced dishes as well as some American classics. While there I had a cup of the Reuben soup with the Bangers and Mash. My wife had a cup of the Reuben soup and a Salad. I decided to try the Reuben soup because I don't recall ever seeing anyone have anything like that before and I love Reubens. It was served first and it was delicious. It was like a cream of potato soup with corned beef and cabbage added to it and just a hint of Thousand Island dressing. We both thought it was delicious. The Bangers and Mash were a disappointment however. Bangers and Mash are one of my favorite Irish/English ethnic foods. I've had it all over the country and even homemade ones. These were the worst. The Bangers tasted more like plain everyday breakfast sausage you would get at a local store. Not the savory Irish or British Bangers one associates with Bangers and Mash. Then the mash was nothing more than plain boiled red potatoes that were mashed. There didn't seem to be any seasoning or anything else to them. They were lumpy with large chunks of potatoes and just very bland. I didn't enjoy it at all. The best part was there was a dollop of some Irish Crème Sauce on the potatoes, but it was a limited amount and not enough to balance out the plain potatoes. My wife enjoyed her salad, but to quote her, "It's a salad; it's hard to mess it up." The best thing about O'riley and Conway's is their beer selection. They had a fairly large one with many beers on tap. The only issue I had was that their beer list just put the name or style of the beer on the list and not the manufacturer. So you might think you are ordering a beer from one craft brewer only to be getting a different one. The service was a little off when we were there. I'm not sure if this is normal. We had waits between orders. Drinks went dry; I had to inquire about a beer multiple times before getting an answer. We had to wait for our check after requesting it. It was fairly busy when we were there so I'm going to keep that in mind. This may just have been a fluke. Overall we had a decent experience. I can see the draw of why people like it. I'd be willing to go back in the future; I'm just not getting the Bangers and Mash.

I'm a big supporter of local restaurants but this one won't get a third chance. We had a weekday lunch there and the service was so slow it took a full hour to get our orders, making us late for getting back to business. The management apologized and gave us a $5 gift certificate so we tried again. It was Sunday breakfast at 10 am the day after St. Patty's Day. A great time to celebrate with the Irish! The front of the restaurant was pretty full, but there was an entire dining room to the side that was empty. After a 15 minute wait the hostess led us to the front dining room and pointed to a table that was across 3 rows of tables. Problem was each and every table group was crammed in there with the chairs back to back and no way in. Off she went leaving us staring at the patrons with a bewildered look. Hey, everyone loves staring at a room full of people with a table you can't reach... We walked right back to the hostess stand and stood waiting for another 10 minutes to see if we could get another table. We were in full view of the wait staff. Nobody even gave us a glance or a "We'll be right with you". After that we just took off and ate at another restaurant. Everyone in Janesville wants interesting restaurants that have a unique menu and are independently owned. I do too! But I sure won't give this one another look!

We are regulars here and absolutely love it. If you like Ruebens you absolutely HAVE to have the one here. It is simply the best one I've had. It's slow roasted chunks of corned beef, not the grisly sandwich deli corned beef. Another must have is the fish tacos, typically served on Fridays. They just expanded the restaurant and have a "select" menu on weekends. It's a good thing. The kitchen is very small for the capacity of the front of the house. The beer selection is tremendous. You won't find a better selection anywhere nearby. They keep their tap lines clean and rinse each glass before pouring. (True beer lovers know the importance of this.) They have live music often and have rarely disappointed. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is they do on occasion have issues such as slow service (especially at lunch time). Parking isn't an issue if you take into consideration the myriad of public lots within 1-2 blocks. For some reason locals think if they can't park directly in front of the building, there must be a parking problem. They have obviously never tried to park in downtown Madison or Milwaukee. I have no problems walking a block to find good quality food.

I had to go to janesville to pick something up and had some time to kill. Great little place to grab a beer. I had the chicken sandwich which was on special. Bartender was very nice. Blonde girl. Never got her name. Have a new Belgium trippel. Pretty good beer selection. There was a small band playing. Decent crowd for a Wednesday. Cool interior.

I went to this fabulous restaurant yesterday. It is a smallish pub but has great potential. The bar seating is nice and the restaurant seating is very welcoming. I personally like the small booths they have for a great personal meal and conversation. The decor of the restaurant is great with its dark hues and woodwork. It looks like a pub that would be right at home on the main street of any Irish town. I am not sure how long this place has been open. Their bar menu is absolutely great! Huge selections of beer, whiskey, and scotch. The food ranks right up there with a favorite Irish restaurant/ pub in Chicago. Two (well four with the other person I was with) thumbs up for their Ruben. The Kerry Rolls were quite tasty as well. There are a few minor improvements such as they do not have an organized Pub Quiz night. Personally, that is one of my favorite times to head out to a pub for some good food and stretch my brain with trivia. I really hope in the future they will have that as an offer as their consumer base grows. The music playing in the restaurant was great. It really sounded like everything that comes across my Dropkick Murphys Pandora radio. All in all a great Irish restaurant and pub!

I went for the fish fry. You get a large piece of fried cod, excellent coleslaw and chips. It was very good but a bit pricey. I read the reviews and should have ordered the fish tacos and let my spouse order the fish fry - then split it. The table next to us had the fish tacos which looked awesome. Others were ordering mussels, shrimp and I think sauteed spinach over linguini. That looked awesome too. (I can't believe I forgot to order Scottish eggs!) The beer selection is as equally impressive as the food. I was pleased to see a triple on the menu. The place is an Irish pub all the way. It is an awkwardly long restaurant. I think they tried to fit too many tables in front making it difficult for servers and patrons to maneuver. Overall though, it was very charming. Service was okay but it was very busy.

Terrible service...unless your a regular. 1 hr wait for a hamburger with a side of raw fries. Hostess was untrained and seated at a table already taken. Having worked extensively in bars/restaurants I would say overall it was a disappointment. A bummer really because it offers a cool interior and bar and upon entry you expect a fun pub experience and meal. BTW, what the heck is with the 5 gallon bucket of what looked like urine in the ladies room? Seriously no b.s.? A simple suggestion, no matter what it is - that doesn't help peoples appetites?

Gone here a few times for drinks after dinner. Solid, comfy Irish bar. Lots of good beers on tap. They were cool when I asked for 3 different samples before I finally made up my mind. I like that!

Everyone raves about the Fish Tacos, so of course we were expecting to have been over-hyped, and were probably going to be disappointed. Not the case here. The Fish Tacos are excellent, the best we've ever had anywhere. We also had the special, Prime Rib Tacos. These were also outstanding. Quiet booth, fast, friendly service, cold beer, perfect date night.

Our first visit to O'Riley and Conway's was St. Patrick's Day, 2013. We fully expected the place to be busy due to the holiday, what we didn't expect is a list of shortfalls as follows; 1) An Irish bar that was out of Strongbow on St. Paddy's Day. 2) Our corned beef and cabbage dinner was served without any silverware, by the time we received silverware, the dinner was cold and had to be returned to the kitchen. 3) We had prompt service when ordering beer, however when asking for water to go with dinner, the wait was extensive. 4) There was confusion over the return of our credit card because the server dropped the card into the bottom of the check folder, upon asking to see the manager, we we're told there would be a lengthy wait. 5) Despite the poor service, we tipped our waiter, and shared our concerns via their facebook page. The facebook post was deleted by them, and comments disabled, rather than addressing the situation. Extremely poor service, we won't be back, and will certainly tell others about our experience. You only have one opportunity to make a good first impression!

The curds, coleslaw, and ranch is great but the Irish Stew was AWEFUL! It was served barely warm and full of grissel. I couldn't stomach it. The waitress was very understanding and hooked me up with a salad instead. I probably won't come here again.

Janesville is my hometown. I visit my parents there often but rarely go out when in town. Last Friday night my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go have a nice beer after supper with the folks. I asked old friends who live in Janesville and scoured Yelp and gazlo.com for information about the bars in the area. I enjoy craft beers and microbrews. O'Riley & Conways looked like the best choice for finding these. Granted, it was a very hot week last week. We arrived at the bar. I could not tell a noticable difference between the very warm temperature outside and inside the bar. The bar is located in an old building downtown, so I figured the air conditioning wasn't up to par. That's nothing new and is easily forgiven. I asked for a beer list from one of the bartenders. Unlike the earlier reviewer who stated that the list showed only the types of beers and not the beer names and breweries, this beer list was detailed. It showed the name of each beer, the brewery, the type of beer and the location of the brewery. The list of beers on tap was wonderfully diverse, with the expected Irish brews and many domestic microbrews and craft beers. The prices were excellent -- at least one to two dollars cheaper per glass than what I pay in Madison. The bartender helpfully said that I could choose some beers to taste if I'd like. I did, and I took her up on the offer. I chose 2 beers for tasting. Each beer was warm. I asked the bartender if the bar was having difficulty keeping the kegs cool in the hot room. No, she stated. It must be with the beer in the lines, she stated, because I had such a small amount for each taste. She was certain that if I ordered a glass it would be cooler since it would come from the keg, she stated. No one else has complained about the temperature of their beer, she stated. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. I ordered a dark wheat beer (I don't remember which one anymore) and my boyfriend ordered a Spotted Cow. Unfortunately, the "cooler beer will come from the middle of the keg" theory did not prove to be true. Both glasses of beer were warm. Warm beer does not taste good. Beer needs to be at a certain temperature to be great. These were not. I struggled to drink 2/3 of my glass and just gave up. My boyfriend, who isn't really a beer drinker, did finish his but had a heck of a grimace on his face when he finished. When we left the bar it was at least 10 degrees cooler outside. It was a RELIEF to leave the bar. Now, in all fairness, the bartenders were attentive, checking in to see if we needed anything else. Beyond my initial complaint I did not say anything else as I knew we would not stay for another drink. I noticed the bartenders poured off a lot of beer from the top. I'm used to having an approximate 1" head on my beer -- that's where the flavor comes from! But these bartenders were dumping that and trying to get the smallest heads possible -- what a waste. The decor is nice. We did not review the food menu or order any food. The woman's restroom was clean and well-lit. The location is good with parking available around the corner on Jackson St and plenty more parking within a 1-2 block radius. I found public wi-fi on my phone for O'Riley's but despite repeated attempts I could not connect to it. If O'Riley & Conway's can improve it's beer tapping system and get the temperature of both the kegs and the room under control, I think this place would be much more attractive. I would certainly return if I knew I could get a variety of interesting ales and lagers at lower-than-Madison prices served at the appropriate temperatures in the appropriate glassware. That would be a boon for downtown Janesville. Until then, I'll spend my money elsewhere.
