Short version: not as good as I remember from my youth, but enjoyable Long version: I've been here several times in recent years as this is a favorite of friends who live near the restaurant, but I've always been a little underwhelmed. I'll admit, I was not really looking forward to eating here again. And as usual, even with a reservation we waited almost 30 minutes and then were led to an almost empty dining room. We were seated upstairs, which I found to be a little hot and stuffy. When I was younger this place had a reputation for pricey but amazing food. Now this place is famous for its 2-for-1 deal that applies to almost everything on the menu, even the surf & turf, and the food is about what you would expect from a place that gives half of it away for free. I ordered the surf & turf. The steak was good, and the mushrooms what came with it nicely seasoned and flavorful. The veggie was broccoli and carrots and completely forgettable, but that's not unusual--no one goes to a restaurant for the veggie sides (I used to, when I was a vegetarian, but thank God that's behind me). The garlic mashed potatoes were real potatoes, and delicious--I took the rest of them home along with the rest of the steak. The lobster was completely overcooked to the point of being dried out rubber. I opted for the cream of mushroom and broccoli soup instead of the salad, and it was okay. Dessert was where things really got crazy. These are also 2-for-1, so we all indulged. All of the dessert portions were pretty big, but the hot fudge sundae was mammoth, and clearly meant to be shared. I had the peanut butter pie, which was enormous, and really tasty. It had a thick layer of fudge between the bottom crust and the peanut butter filling. If I'd known that awaited me I would have skipped the soup! I couldn't finish the pie. Other desserts at the table included old school supper club ice cream drinks like a grasshopper, and a huge piece of chocolate cake. We had a $100 gift card, and that along with the 2-for-1 brought the cost of the entire dinner plus tip (don't be a cheapskate now--tip on the full amount BEFORE the discounts, people) came to a mere $18 per person. Worth it for the pie and steak, I've decided. This was actually the best meal I've had here in recent years. This place is a bit of a drive for me, and I don't think the food justifies making the trip simply to eat there. As an affordable place to have a fun meal with friends out that way, though, it was fine. The weird sidenote: One of our party was stung by a bee while sitting at the table!

I went here on a Saturday for lunch and the atmosphere was very cool (went recently, so it was beginning of winter and there was snow on the ground and trees). It had fireplaces going and felt cozy. Definitely would be a good place for groups, they have many large tables and lots of space. I started with a bloody mary, which was pretty standard. I also had the creamy (alfredo?) broccoli soup and it was SUPER salty. I do like salt, but this was almost too much for even me. I ordered the club sandwich as my main. The menu said there was an option of white or rye, but the waitress didn't ask so I ended up with wheat (?). Still tasted good. The fries were great! I'd like to come here to try dinner sometime; a nice destination restaurant when I want to get out of Milwaukee.

I really do not understand why so many people think that this a great restaurant which serves delicious food. They are deceived by the 2 for 1 mentality. The food is priced about 65% more than it would be if it were listed as solo menu option. WISH I had read Margaret R's review before ordering that $28 piece of smelly fish that I literally spit out on the first bite! I did order it without sauce seeing as I prefer my fish plain and not swimming in a pool of sauce as so typically happens. Husband had the duck, and while we know duck typically takes a long time to prepare, how long was it cooked for it to arrive as the dried out carcass that was presented? From now on I will go out to the $25 plus per plate restaurants that do not try to elevate the value of their food with 2 for 1. It really is unfortunate that the food is horrible! This place is right down the road in an absolutely stunning location. Ate here last maybe about 8 years ago, and unfortunately it is still just as bad as the last time. I truly can't figure out why so many people like this place. A bargain is a bargain, but when you are eating slop, how long does that hold true? On the positive the waitstaff is very friendly.

My parents recently took us out here and told us that this used to be "The Place" to go for super nice dinners. You can tell by the decor that it was super ritzy at one point in time. Typically I don't drive this far out of the city for dinner, but we had the time and the drive was actually super pretty. Very rural and quiet area out there. You can tell that the place has changed in terms of how 'ritzy' it is, but it still has a nice 'outdoor in the woods' feel, while keeping it warm and not junky/rustic. The menu was all a 2 For 1 deal, even desert. I had read the reviews and we thought perhaps the food would be mediocre. Unfortunately, I can only speak for the steak, since that is what everybody at the table ordered. Someone in my family is a food snob to some degree and suggested I order the steak medium well, if I really wanted medium. He said that they would most likely over cook it in the kitchen. I didn't follow his advice and I was happy I didn't. They cooked the steak medium, just like I asked. All of us were surprised how good the steak was. It may not have been the 'best' in the state, but it was a good meal. No question. Given that it was a 2 for 1 deal, the pricing was pretty darn reasonable. All of us liked the steak and the salads/potatoes given with it. We also ordered desert (another 2 for 1 deal!) and those were very generous in size and tasted really good. I can't say I'll be driving this far from the city often for a meal, but I would come back. It's a nice quiet setting with good food. The service was so-so (younger server) but we'll be coming back at some point.

I've heard a handful of folks recommend the Fox and Hounds Restaurant out by Holy Hill and finally got a chance to dine there yesterday. Overall, a disappointing meal, leaving me feel like a city snob who's used to her fancy contemporary American dinners. Loved the area--rode out here on a beautiful afternoon on our motorcycles. The restaurant looks like an old lodge and is decorated as such. They did a great job with that feel. Although it wasn't terribly busy, we had a short wait...because they had to wait for their next shift of staff to arrive. The host and server were all nice and apologized for the wait. Pacing of the meal was fine until the end for the inevitable looooonnnng wait for the check. Other than that, out server was pleasant and attentive. I ordered an appetizer, haystack onion rings and they were quite tasty. Very large portion! We were then served some warm bread with cinnamon butter that was delicious. The dinners came with soup or salad and we both ordered soup. I had a Beef with Red Beans and Rice and my friend had Ham and Cheddar. Both were decent. Our dinner entrees were part of the special they offer "buy one, get one." I guess that's the draw? The entrees seem a overpriced for this type of restaurant and I suppose it's to make up for that. I was actually surprised at the lack of selection on the menu as I kind of just wanted a burger or sandwich and the menu was basically a bunch of steaks and fish and chicken and a pork chop option. So our entrees are where this place really went downhill. I had the pan-fried walleye and actually it was pretty good. The flour dusting was a bit heavy and was more like a thick batter and the slivered almonds on top kept feeling like I might be eating fish bones. It really needed a sauce though. Too plain. I was just happy the fish was moist and not overcooked. It was served with a seasoned rice pilaf that was a bit dry and steamed broccoli with baby carrots and peppers. As in the carrots you normally eat raw. So this confirmed my suspicion that it's more of a heat and serve kind of kitchen. If they can't prep carrots, then I don't trust them with quality steak or fish. My friend had the grilled salmon with "Out of this World" dill sauce and the same rice and veggies. The salmon was terrible. Overcooked and very fishy tasting. I love salmon and I've never had any that tasted like this. The sauce was ok but the consistency was like gravy. Gross. I regretted our choice to eat here but then again there aren't many options in this neck of the woods. My recommendation? Perhaps just drinks and an appetizer at the bar to get the atmosphere of this place. Even though one of our entrees were free, I left feeling like I really overpaid for what we got.

Brunch isn't the same without my friend Scott, but I'll drink a Brandy Alexander while he enjoys sunny California. The enjoyment starts on your scenic drive through the Holy Hill area to the restaurant, which is nestled in the trees near Freiss Lake. The winding drive gives you a great view of the property, including the patio area and pond. The parking lot has rockstar parking for motorcycles, if that is your preferred method of transportation as well. The space has a cozy cabin feel. During the cooler months, the wood burning fireplaces fill the rooms with their wonderful aroma. Some of the rooms feature views of the lake while others, such as the Garden Room, are off to the side and have a more intimate feel for smaller groups. The entire restaurant is huge when you start to look at the sum of its parts - and worth a look around. Try and check out the massive wine bottle chandelier on the side of the bar as well. My favorite here is their brunch buffet. It is AYCE and features a rotating selection of eggs, meats, salads, pastry and extensive dessert bar. Whether you have a little or a lot, there are plenty of options. I especially enjoyed the green pea and cashew salad, asparagus and bacon salad, deviled eggs and roast beef. The coconut lemon tart was a tasty dessert too. The Bloody Mary was not quite as spicy as I hoped (I ordered it extra spicy) but it did have a lot of garnish...and a lot of vodka. Not my favorite drink, but they have many other options to choose from and I will roll the dice on another on my next visit. This is a great place to take a group and a nice Sunday afternoon drive. Try checking out some of the nearby parks and attractions or just head home to nap off the food coma. Other fun facts: Check out the basement bar area. They have board games and live music on select evenings. Also, if using the restrooms: women = fox and men = hound.

Our experience at Fox and Hounds was for sure a great one. Wonderful food. Good service. Bread was hot and delicious. We went for for a birthday dinner and we will definitely go back for more.

Recently our family has begun enjoying Sunday brunch after church. This Sunday we went to early mass; after running an errand we found ourselves near Fox and Hounds. So, I thought I would treat our family to what I anticipated as a great brunch. It would have been hard to be more disappointing. Nothing makes you feel more welcome than being greeted with "Do you have a reservation" - how about good morning or hello? We did not have a reservation, but were seated promptly. After being seated it was 10 minutes before our waitress visited our table to take a drink order. Then we were invited to the buffet. The buffet was crowded and it took 5-10 minutes of being in line to get to the food. This was primarily because the buffet was poorly laid out with little room for people to navigate without bumping into each other; then add the elderly with walkers, canes, etc. The dessert selection was excellent; but there were several things missing. No biscuits, no gravy, no omelet station, no waffles, no pancakes. There were some additional lunch fare, but beef tips with no noodles, tough thinly slices meat passed of as steak, and ribs - the chicken was good. Our son, who could not make up is mind when the waitress first took drink orders, ordered lemonade when the waitress passed by. We finished our food, went back for some second helpings and dessert, came back and were nearly done eating when our waitress stopped to see how things were; I reminded her of the missing lemonade and, since my diet coke was empty for 20 minutes I asked for a refill. I was told refills were not free ($2 for a 12 oz soda with no free refills is a rip off) - so I ordered water. When the lemonade and my water finally arrived we were pretty much done eating. I asked if the lemonade would be complimentary, and was told no and that the bar was backed up. I pointed out that she had stopped to ask how things were without a thought of the missing lemonade until we reminded her about it. She was clearly irritated and said that she would take the lemonade off our bill - I said she should leave it on the bill since at this point I had enough of this place and this terrible service. She did leave it on the bill - and the tip was $0. Nobody at the host station bothered to ask how our meal was as we left which was too bad as I would have appreciated the opportunity to tell them. We will not go back here as the food was mediocre at best and the service was terrible.

A group of 12 of us went last night, not many people in the restaurant due to -30 dg weather. For atmosphere the place gets 5 stars but don't go there for the food or even the watered down drinks. The server was also 5 stars a real pro! My French onion soup cheese was not broiled, the cheese was barely warm or melted But the soup was still good. Having been there before I knew the quality of the food so got a simple spinach salad with grilled chicken and hot bacon dressing NOT the dressing and the chicken were both cold but still good. The pan fried walleye my husband had was delish. The lobster my friend had was ice cold. The 2 for one isn't a deal at all the prices should be cut in half. The $3 soda does not have free refills so they get your money and the bill is huge. All in all it's ok but there's no chef in that kitchen it's line cooks all the way.

I went to Fox & Hounds last night for the first time with my wife for an anniversary dinner. It was a Sunday and we showed up with no reservations but had no trouble getting a table and we both had a great experience. The design is old German / European inside. There were lots of old looking wood pillars and window casements. It was a cool design but a bit dim lighting-wise. I was excited when I saw Hinterland beer advertised on the way in but they only had one on tap. So, I had the Hinterland Cherry Wheat with my dinner. For dinner I had their Settler's Stew which is their interpretation of a Shepard's Pie. My wife had the bacon-wrapped blue-cheese covered filet. They do an odd thing with their menu where almost everything is buy-one-get-one free every day. All except their Super Surf-and-turf and the lobster (I believe). So, we only paid for the filet. Before dinner we received a small loaf of fresh-baked bread with cinnamon-honey-butter. Everything we ate was awesome. The stew had different types of meat (including sausage), veggies, and a great gravy that wasn't too salty (something I've often experienced). The garlic mashed potatoes around it were great too and clearly delivered to the plate with an icing anointment utensil and torched a bit. The plating was excellent and there was enough for a second large meal in what I received. Our server was courteous and took his time explaining things and ensuring we had all we needed. He even boxed our leftovers and labeled the boxes with the contents and date. We had a great time and we will go back for sure.

Not very good but could be worse. The always-offered "buy one dinner, get one free" seems really tacky for this kind of restaurant. Beautiful location, nice ambiance. The place was packed - an hour wait. I wouldn't have waited but my mother insisted. I wish there would have been smaller options on the menu - everything comes with bread, potatoes, salad, rice, etc. Food was just okay.

We've gone there numerous times and it's always delicious and a good value. Their two for one is wonderful, food quality is excellent and ambiance is elegant. This is a restaurant I always use when I compare others to it.

Great food and excellent service. I got the rib eye sandwich and the steak was cooked to perfection! The waiter was very polite and he checked on our table at the perfect times. The decor in the restaurant was great! The restaurant was very big and all the fire places were real!

We visited this adorable and remote restaurant for my graduation. The decor was outstanding for the holidays and the server was welcoming. I had the stuffed salmon and enjoyed it very much. The rest of the family had steaks that were perfectly medium rare. I would visit this unique restaurant again. PS they have delicious grasshoppers for dessert ;)

I went with a group of girls and had a GREAT experience. Our server Nicole was amazing and our meals were delicious. The warm bread was a treat and the filet I ordered was cooked perfectly. Not to mention that it was wrapped in bacon and topped with blue cheese and asparagus!

We just came back from the Fox and Hounds. We both had the Friday night fish fry. It was just ok. Food was served luke warm. At best. They were very friendly and our waitress was very attentive. This is NOT the Fox and Hounds of long ago. I guess I miss the old Fox and Hounds of long ago. The food was ok. I am pining for the food of the past.

The place is beautiful. The bartenders were great. We waited 1 hour to be seated, which was fine on a Friday night. We Sat down and ordered immediately since we had looked at a menu at the bar. Our waitress never brought water, so we asked for it 30 min later. Our fish fry never came with bread, we also asked for that. She never asked how our food was, I never got butter with poormans lobster, which is standard that it does. We also got served last in the room but ordered first. We never got another drink, she didn't come back. The food was lukewarm and shrimp were frozen. I wouldn't do that again, buy 1 get 1 feels like a cheap Perkins restaurant. 3 kids in pajamas, and this place is definitely quantity over quality. Not fancy.

Had a business lunch that was here. Wish that it hadnt been after the last event. And again theyve provided terrible service and food that tastes like a frozen dinner. Terrible.

We had a reservation on a Sunday for the brunch, which changed several times. We were seated on time, plenty of room. We all ordered buffet so the waitress was good for the service we required, brought carafes of water, took drink orders. I was amazed at the quantity and quality of food on the buffet for their reasonable price. Homemade desserts in sample sizes, many breakfast pastries including German apple pancake. A selection of 6 hot meat entrees and 2 full buffet carts of salads and fruits. It would have been nice to have individual checks but understandable that they didn't with the size of the group and not worth dropping a star in the rating because of it. We ate at 12:30 and I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day! Everything that I tried was very good. Anxious to take the beautiful ride around Holy Hill again and meet other friends at this quaint chalet.

Agree with other viewers that food is overpriced and of average quality. Worse is waitstaff tip is supposed to be based on the overinflated 'before' free second meal discount. Meals are only worth the after discount price for what you get. The building is nice.

I've been here before and didn't have a good impression. Went tonite and played it save with the veggie and pasta and hubby order the aparagus filet. And we both thought the food was tasteless, his filet was tough, and my drink was a dissapointment. Service is fine and decor is fun but that doesn't make up for the high prices and low quality food = bad combination! I don't mind spending money for good food - but this is no where near good! Don't waste your time or money!

We've been here many times and celebrate a lot of special events here and the food has always been good. Today we are here for Father's Day and they did not disappoint. I try and get here on Sat. for their prime rib special.

When you walk in be ware of the older woman checking you in, she is incredibly rude. From then, you will find it very difficult to get a drink while you are waiting to be seated. Once seated, it seams that things may go well, but don't be fooled. The food is one step above gas station food and it appears that their kitchen staff had no clue how to cook a stake. If you like any color in you meat at all, I would not let them put it on the grill. I had to send my meal back because my order resembled beef jersey rather than a filet. So with 4 drinks and one, meal we ended up spending over $77. Do your self a favor and find a typical Greek restaurant, spend $23, get the 2 meals you ordered, and you will me much more satisfied than you would be at this place.

I am a local and love to give my support to local establishments in every way possible. Unfortunately I won't be further supporting this place. We arrived at Fox & Hound and were told there was a 25 min wait. It seemed odd because there were tons of empty tables. We figured they were short staffed. We were finally seated and had to wait another 15 minutes just to see our waitress. We finally ordered. Our drinks and appetizer came out rather quick. We ordered the fried cheese sticks, which are oddly enough little eggrolls stuffed with cheese, they were very good. That's where it all went downhill. Due to the wait we had all finished our soda's, at which time we were told there were no free refills. I don't have a problem with that but it would have been nice if the waitress had told us when we ordered. I'm sure the menu had it somewhere in very fine print (by the way who doesn't have free refills these days?) The main dishes, burgers and french dips just weren't very good. My daughters burger bun had so much grease on it she wanted extra napkins just to wipe it. It really reminded me of a Gordon Ramsay episode. The French dip actually could have been a good sandwich if it didn't have so much grizzle! It seriously had so much fat I was trying not to gag at several points. The entire time we were eating there was a staff member spraying cleaning solution on the vinyl tabletops, from my viewpoint I could see the mist actually hitting the food people were eating at adjacent tables. I do appreciate keeping the place clean, but nobody wants cleaning solution in their food. The atmosphere and area are beautiful, but food and service is not acceptable.

Not often I get a not so good one. The carpark was full - Sunday Brunch. We arrived to a late lunch. The maitradee was kinda rude! Surprised me. Our waitress was a very nice young lady who did a wonderful job. The food was very average, VERY. The lunch menu was quite limited. I could not believe they charge soda by the glass ....... who does that in the USA, that's a Canada and Australia trick! My wifes Rib steak sand which could decide if it was medium or blue! We ordered medium and half of the steak was, the other half was very blue (raw)....... We told our waitress politely and she was very nice in her reply. We were offered a discount on our meal. The decor and setting were terrific. The location with the fall the trees was spectacular.. Sad the food wasnt.

Fox & Hounds used to be a stellar restaurant, but the food hasn't lived up to the historic reputation for some time. The "new" owners (who also own "The Mineshaft" in Hartford) have taken better care of the property, but continue to deliver sub par results in the kitchen. Any restaurant that offers BOGO on entrees several nights every week should give someone pause. The food portions are very large, but I would rather have half the amount and twice the quality.

Everytime I ccome home for some reason my family takes me here. I really don't like this place and every year this place gets worse. This rustic restaurant is located in the middle of the woods and if you don't know where it is you could easily miss it! When you come in you have the option to wait in the hall till they have a table or you can go to the bar. Whenever I come here I usually get a bloody mary. Well two years ago it came with a shot of beer. When I came here this year no shot of beer. I was bitterly disappointed. When I came here two years ago the wait staff was snotty and got into a yelling match with my grandfather. I mean come on the guy is 80 and your going to yell at him because he wanted us to have a bigger table. Your stupid. When I came here this year we had our server circle our table to make sure we didn't put any fish fry in our take home bags. The worst part was that my mother was still eating while our server was circling our table to make sure she didn't put any fish in her take away bag. The fish fry is cheap and good. And the drinks are really good here but I dread coming here every time because the wait staff is so disrespectfull and horrible to our family. I really hope next time my family doesn't take me here again but their creatures of habit so I'm guessing they will. I really don't reccomend coming here. The customer service here sucks. I understand your in high school and you have an attitude but it doesn't mean you can yell at customers and be bullies to them. If I could give this -5 stars I totally would.

As its famous for the area, it was an affordable and easy option to choose for the family. It certainly isn't the 'famously decadent' place it once was. The service was spotty and the waitress hurried us out. The brunch had a variety of foods and the dessert table was a delight. It is a 'Must Go', no it's not. But if you are in the area it's a decently priced & tasty option. Not worth a long hike.

Fox & Hounds used to be a fine restaurant with even finer ambiance. It is off the beaten path, about a 40 minute drive from Milwaukee in the beautiful Holy Hill area. This used to be a fine dining establishment with a really unique ambiance which made it a destination restaurant. Such is not the case anymore. It has been run by various groups under the Fox & Hounds name. A few years ago it was acquired by the same people who run The Mineshaft Restaurant in Hartford, WI - a restaurant that thinks fine dining is having a game room and frying everything in a deep frier. it really shows both in the food and the ambiance. Linen has been replaced with vinyl - that's a metaphor for what has happened to the restaurant as a whole. A ho-hum menu, overcooked items, lack of any culinary creativity from menu to cooking method to presentation. Truly terrible.

Our first visit to Fox and Hounds ,after a beautiful drive through countryside, did not disappoint. A lovely, historic building with incredible service. I asked about the history of the building and our server actually photocopied an article that I could take and read at my leisure. My husband ordered Italian beef off the menu which was tender and tasty. I ordered the special--a beef tortilla. It was delicious! I took half of it home. While in the area, a visit to Holy Hill basilica is a must. We were so happy with our experience that we booked Easter brunch there.

Worst place ever for Thanksgiving buffet. This was my third time coming to the Fox and Hounds since it has been redone...and I can say that the food was horrendous. On the previous two occasions I had a fish fry and a steak. All three experiences were bad, so I believe it will be my last time that I go to Fox and Hounds for any dinner. For the buffet, it became quite obvious that it was not worth going to after I had my instant mashed potato's, cranberry stuffing that was overly tart, and turkey that was tough and was definitely premade by some food prep company. I would say that I've had better food at the chow hall in the military and to say that it was $20 per person was not worth it. For $20 I was expecting at least a carving station and not premade Sysco garbage that they served. The only reason I gave this place one star was that they were accommodating to my large family, but they should be on Thanksgiving especially if you are having a buffet. My wife and I used to come to the Fox and Hounds before it was bought out and it had outstanding homemade food. Now, the new business model is renovate, then back up the Sysco truck and serve as much cheap food to people who have little taste or understand what a quality restaurant should be...shame, its a great atmosphere, but the food ruins it.

I went into Fox & Hounds not knowing what to expect. This place took my breath away! The location is very remote, secluded, and tucked away in the woods it seems! A very cabin like feel! The decor was beautiful. An upstaged cabin is how I would describe it! My ultimate favorite aspect of this place is the buy one get one dinners, how can you go wrong?! The meals are greatly portioned and averaging about $20-30 an entree, but remember you get one free! What a wonderful experience, I would most definitely return!

If you can handle the holy-far-drive-from-MKE-Batman, and know what you're getting into, you will like this place. Fox & Hounds is literally in the middle of the woods -- it took me back to the 80s going on family vacations in Eagle River, WI. It is quintessential upnorth supper club: old log cabiny feel, fireplaces everywhere, meat & fish menu. Oh and it's huge. Really. We got lost looking for our friends who were seated in "the back." There's like 3 "backs." Since it was Friday, we all tried the fish fry. I had the all you can eat shrimp and fish combo. I always think all you can eat is a good idea, but unless you can eat double the amount you normally eat, it's a trick. The original portion was pretty huge, but I did ask for a few more shrimp for good measure. I would say above average shrimp, but the fish (cod) was just ok. Our bill for 4 people and maybe 6 drinks was $100, but there were a lot more pricey things on the menu as well. I heard they do a buy one get one free deal too during the week. Apparently, everyone goes here to celebrate their birthdays with a large group -- there were 3 in our room alone in 2 hours. Basically, I loved the old school supper clubby cozy feel of this place. It's like you're in another world. Be prepared for the windy road drive to get here though.

We happened to be in the area and since we had been here before and like it, decided to stop in again. (after all, it was Saturday and the BOGO offer was in effect) We were seated in a side dining room off the bar on the other side of the restaurant, didn't even know this area was here. It could have stayed a mystery, I called it the Road Kill room. The room was a hunting room filled with heads of animals and numerous plaques of antlers on the walls, I mean MANY MANY that looked like they came from baby deer - therefore I figured the Road Kill wall. Enough of that. The waitress was inattentive, I could not even get a 2nd glass of water from her after having a much watered down martini that was only half the glass full. My steak came out undercooked. It just was not a stellar evening. I would not tell anyone to not try it, I just don't think I will rush back soon. I will stick with their lower cost more casual sister restaurant - The Mine Shaft.

Mounted dead animals outnumber live humans here, so if you don't like that sort of thing, you have been forewarned! But seriously...so many deer heads. Like, how do we have a problem with over-population of deer in this state? Now that I think about it, was my chair made out of a deer? Shit, I totally forgot to look. ANYWAY. This place is pretty cool. The best part is its location, nestled in the Kettle Moraine hills. Really scenic, and nice drive with winding country roads (on which you don't need to be concerned about hitting a deer). I was here on a Monday night for my dad's birthday. It was very slow...yet the service was fairly slow. Maybe they staff less workers on a Monday. Still very friendly. Food was delicious! I had the T-Bone, medium rare....*droooool*, cooked perfectly. This is a good place to get a big group together.

I realize that this feels like a Nino's or Black Steer from years back and it does have an old, up north, supper club, feel. However, there are MANY options for nice, trendy, small plate, tapas, Bon Appetit places. This is what it is and it doesn:t adpire to be what it isn't. It is worth a nice, occasional country drive for the Sat. Prime Rib BOGO. I have enough "orts" leftover that I freeze and have for many more meals. If you don't read reviews before you go, I understand how you might have way-off expectations and could, therefore, be disappointed. Do get a reservation!

Based on other reviews, I was not expecting much. However the steak was good, drinks were big and the service great! The atmosphere was excellent, although it is located in the sticks. Beware of the sampler appetizer - unless you like everything fried or loaded with calories. Overall, a nice surprise.

Awful. Had dinner there last night for my dad's birthday (love my dad, but he's old school and cheap, so I think he likes the 2 for 1). My ribeye was 2/3 gristle, wife's tenderloin/mahi mahi special was just as bad (fish definitely NOT fresh). Only reason it got 2 stars instead of one was dessert was good (peanut butter chocolate pie) and the couple good bites I could manage out of my steak had relatively good flavor. Was fairly certain their 2 for 1 gimmick was a bad sign and I was correct. Too bad, the restaurant itself is in a cool, old building. Very warm and inviting. But the food is just plain poor.

We held a big gathering here mid-week (Tuesday evening), and they were very polite about a last-minute room reservation, and what an outstanding wine menu!! The bar had an impressive selection of wine, beer and other spirirts - everyone in our party could order what they wanted, and they had it. The food was amazing, tasted great and was prepared how everyone ordered it -- and it was buy 1 meal get one free! We fed about 20 people (plus their drinks) for about $400. I had the pork chops and my husband had the steak, and both were lovely. The side salads were fresh and the pre-meal bread was warm and delicious. Other meals looked equally as good. Wait-staff was accommodating and very polite, the restaurant was beautiful, and set in a lovely wooded area, very peaceful.

Stopped for a sandwich on Sunday afternoon. Got there at 3:10; they won't serve you in the bar and said you had to go to the dining room. So we left after one drink. The interesting thing is that cooks, and staff were all standing around outside so it wasn't like they were busy. Bartenders were standing around talking between themselves. Place was empty. We think the only way they get people in their restaurant is by offering a permanent two for one. This should be a red flag to everyone.

My ribeye was great and my husband had the prime rib which was very tasty as well. You can't beat buy one get one free! Two great dinners, wine & coffee for $38.00. We will definitely be back.

We were there for the Friday fish-fry (there is just something *not right* about going to a Wisconsin supper club on a Friday evening and *not* getting the fish fry), and were not disappointed. Having been somewhat burned out on fried food at the time, we went with the "poor man's lobster", which is steamed cod served with drawn butter. Very tasty! With dinner, drinks, and dessert for two around $60 (and this doesn't count their continual buy-two-entrees-get-one-free deal, which doesn't include the fish-fry), and the wonderful ambiance of rural WIsconsin, F&H can't be beat for a nice romantic dinner.

Mothers Day Brunch Food was ok, basic Wisconsin food. Meat, gravy, pickled herring, and more meat and gravy. Everyone enjoyed them selves, so even though the food was mediocre it was still a good time. This is an after thought, I have to admit that this review isn't what I would normally give them. Mothers Day is armageddon in the restaurant world, we fear it more then any other day of the year, due to the huge numbers of people, (Aaaaaahhhhh the people keep coming) The Fox & Hound is a very nice restaurant with great atmosphere and deals you can't pass up. Just a walk through the building will give you a history lesson you wouldn't expect. The menu has some great choices and the service is pretty good. So overall this is a destination dining event you will enjoy.

A very high end supper club popular with an older crowd but appealing to everyone. The building features English Tudor / Farmhouse construction and is expansive. The decorating is quaint but not kitschy. The restaurant is set in a beautiful secluded, wooded area. The menu is predictable, fish and meat in the 19-22 dollar range though Sundays through Thursdays is "buy on get one free" and Fridays and Saturdays have multiple specials. The exception to the predictable menu is the "Settler's Stew," the dish I tried. The stew was very fresh and tender, if somewhat bland. But in rural Wisconsin even the faintest hint of spice sends the locals running for the faucet. Not an ultra-gourmet experience, but within its context a fine-dining establishment!

I have been to Fox & Hounds several times. This restaurant is huge and each dining room is unique and welcoming. I have almost tried everything on the dinner menu: tenderloin, shepherd's pie, pasta alfredo, BBQ ribs... Nothing, nothing has ever wow-ed me - I'm waiting... The food is mediocre. The reason that Fox & Hounds gets 3 stars instead of 2 is because of their brunch. I've been here twice for their brunch buffet and it was quite tasty! I agree with a previous reviewer that I have not ever had an attentive server. It seems they do the minimum to help their tables. I will be back because it is my mother-in-law's favorite, but I'm never in a hurry to get there unless it is for brunch!

Went here for Sunday lunch buffet. I'm not a big buffet fan but I sucked it up because my partner's mother wanted to go. The place is very rustic looking and the clientele skews a bit older. Like 55+. The buffet offerings are not bad. There is the usual egg, bacon and ham items but there is also more lunch based items like meatloaf and chicken. there is a large assortment of pastries and an even larger offering of dessert items. Everything is okay. Nothing stood out. Service was good though. Our waitress was quick to fill coffee and checked up on us regularly I was a bit surprised that a place that tends to have a "senior" customer base would have restrooms downstairs and very uneven floors and room entrances. I can see many broken hips happening here. However the buffet is not bad and service was good so I can't complain too much. It's not a place I would choose to visit but it's decent for the "in-law" brunch every now & then.

We were there for Sunday brunch. The buffet was pretty good and most of the food was pretty good. The ham was almost cold and the coffee cake bar was basically empty. The bacon was very good and the selection was good. The service was lacking. We didn't get water until half way through the meal, and our drinks took forever. My wife and I both had a bloody mary and it was probably top 3 WORST bloody mary's I have ever had. Basically watered down tomato juice and a little vodka. Don't get the bloody mary.

Disgusting. We had the steak-two for one thing. The meat tasted like chemicals and when we told the server she asked if I had just sipped some water because their water tasted-to her-like chemicals. Yoikes. On the positive side, it's forced me to really get serious about transitioning into veganland It was. That. Bad.

We had a Saturday night, 7pm reservation and the place was beyond packed. My first thought was, this is a fire/safety issue. There were so many people in the restaurant waiting for their table, there was very little room to move around. The bar area was packed too. We were seated 45 minutes late. Staff kept saying 10 minutes more every time we checked on our status. We did have an electronic alert device, but we thought it may have malfunctioned and we missed our call. We ordered 2 T-Bone steak dinners @ $27.95 each (medium rare), potato choice was baked. Homemade bread was delicious along with a very tasty pepper-corn ranch dressing. Our steaks arrived hot and grilled to our request. Initially we thought they were excellent. A great looking T-Bone, size was 8-9" about 1" thickness. . After cutting into the steak I found that the steak was of a lesser grade and it had more gristle and fat than what the price dictated. The seasoning was to my taste, but the steak did not cut well and was chewy. Vegetables included in the diner were beans and carrots with a stray piece of cauliflower. Beverages were $5.00 each, a Hacker-Pschorr (MaiBock) and a brandy and 7-up. Both drinks were adequate size and contents for the price. Our waitress was pleasant, but not very attentive. She set two smaller plates in front of us for our bread, my plate looked like it just came out of the bus boys tray. It had food scraps on it and grossed me out. By the time I could make a comment, she was gone.. and.for some time. Our steaks were not served by our waitress but by someone else. I asked if he was our new waiter, he said no and left. We got through our meal when our waitress re-appeared. At this point what do you say to her...and why bother, it did not appear she really cared anyway. I gave F & H 3-stars due to the following...waitress did not check on our needs during the meal. We never were offered water, our butter dish had one lone butter, dirty plates served to us, tough steak, way too crowded. Our total bill was $74.11 minus the (2 for 1) came to $46.16. I will try this place again, but not on a Saturday night and maybe next time things will be better.

We have no complaints about our recent visit to the Fox and Hounds. We arrived around 7 PM on a Sunday night and thought we may be the only ones there. Surprise! It was bustling. We were seated immediately. Our friendly waitress said there was another item that night that was not listed. It was the Surf and Turf and it was also a bogo. It was delicious. She was attentive and friendly. Although there were many people still there, the noise level is very low and one is able to carry on a conversation and not be heard by the next table. It was a wonderful dining experience.

When I was a kid, this was my FAVORITE restaurant - I went here for EVERY birthday with my parents. Real "destination dining" outside Milwaukee. Delicious, old-world German food, casseroles with sausage in them. Kiddie cocktails for me and my brother. I always felt like i should be approaching the restaurant in the snow on my cross country skis (though I am downhill-only), my loyal hounds at my side. I loved the room downstairs with the GIANT fireplace and kettle. Lots of happy childhood memories here.

The place is in an idyllic setting. Stopped in for a drink and lunch just as Sunday brunch was winding down. The restaurant is a beautiful old log cabin with many, many rooms, all so unique with a ton of wood burning fireplaces all going. We walked through the whole restaurant just to check it all out, very cool. The brunch buffet looked decent, typical brunch buffet. Looks like there's a nice patio for summertime. We just had drinks and sandwiches at the bar which were good, but can't really rate the food on that alone. Will definitely go back again for dinner sometime.

I love the atmosphere at this place and they used to have great food years ago. It's really gone downhill in recent years. I had a bad experience last time I came, getting a steak that just wasn't good and decided to give them another try. Disappointing to say the least. They told us it would be an hour wait to be seated... we waited close to an hour and 40 min..I had the stuffed chicken w pasta..the chicken was dry, it had a layer of overcooked rubbery meat around it I had to peel off to get to the edible but dry part of the chicken. My friends had the same problem w their meals. They offer the buy one get one free entree here, maybe that's the problem, they attempt to come across as fine dining but cut corners and quality and serve food u could get at applebees. I won't be eating here again, what a waste of a great building.

Sunday brunch is 10-2! The brunch is out of this world. They have a dessert display that almost caused me to melt down. They had, literally, 20 different dessert options and they were beautiful. You can have sirloin, ribs, roasted chicken (lemon pepper), eggs, egg casserole, garlic mashed potatos, loaded baked potato casserole, green bean almondine, bacon, sausage...and that covers about half of the options. There are about 20 salads, like pea cashew salad, balsamic tortellini, tuna tortellini, strawberries and cream, and the list goes on. My favorites were the chicken cordon bleu and the loaded baked potato casserole. Oh, and don't forget to try the homemade cookies, made with milk chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chunks...is that legal? The service is really good and the dining rooms make you feel like you are in a log cabin. At $14, the brunch is worth it! Keep in mind that soda refills cost $2 a pop, so be careful! The drink of choice of most of the patrons was the bloody mary and Irish coffee. The drive out here is breath taking.

This had to be the worst dinning experience i have had in a very long time! I ordered the seafood alfredo the noodles were so over done it was like one big blob all stuck together. This is just a shame to have such a beautiful place and such horrible food!

Horrible. One of my top 3 worst dining experiences ever. Tell me, dear friends, what is the point of a reservation? I believe the very essence of a reservation implies that you have *reserved* something. In the case of a restaurant, the "something" would refer to a...freaking table! So, the bf received a gift card for Fox & Hounds (clearly from someone who hates us) and we decided to venture out into no man's land (which is in Hubertus for anyone wondering) and use it tonight. We made reservations for 8 pm and were seated approximately 1 hour later. After waiting and waiting and waiting, I eventually asked the hostess what the hell was happening and she replied "we have no control over how people are seated." Waaaait a minute - isn't that the job of the hostess? Absolute power over the flow of dining room seating? She then proceeded to tell me that they had just finished seating the 7:00 reservations (now at 8:30) and that there were 8!! people ahead of us on the list. That was the most ridiculous thing I've heard in quite some time. There is absolutely no point in making reservations here. (While we were waiting, we saw a family walk in with their elderly grandma, I sincerely hope she didn't die before they were seated). The whole place is weird. It's like a hunting cabin turned eclectic dining space coupled with lots of drunken people celebrating birthdays. The dining room we sat in was so densely packed, I was literally shoved into the table by a complete stranger sitting behind me when he stood up. In between randomly being elbowed every time someone at the table behind me moved in his seat, I had to listen to drunk people yelling across the dining room (apparently someone spotted a friend across the room and instead of walking over and saying "hello" like a normal human person, decided instead to scream, "Hey Randy - how's your salad?!?" Who does that?) This place fails at its attempt at fine dining, which is what I think it's going for (well, that's what the prices would lead you to believe, anyway). Paper napkins, vinyl tablecloths, nursing home silverware, salad dressing in plastic cups and sloppy service - just the absolute worst. The staff was inattentive and harried; it was clear that about 90% of them hated their lives. The food was less than mediocre and if I would have had to pay for the meal, I would have been pretty aggravated, but between our gift card and the BOGO deal on entrees, the entire check ended up costing about $4. Really? That is a definite red flag. Never eat at a place willing to simply give their food away. It kind of makes sense, in a way, as people are much less likely to complain about a meal they perceive as being "free." I'm sure that this is an easier business practice than actually satisfying customers. It is abundantly obvious that this place makes nothing from scratch and that every dish is slopped together without any regard for presentation or execution. I'm absolutely certain they have never employed an actual chef nor have they taken the time or concern to put together a quality dining experience. It's a pity because I'm sure this place could be something great but it ends up being a dismal disaster and a complete waste of 2+ hours (not to mention the 50 mile round trip drive). Fox & Hound is about as disappointing as any restaurant can possibly be and there is no way on earth I would ever go back. And, if anyone ever gives us a gift card to this place again, I'll politely trade it on Craigslist for something more valuable - like an already scratched lottery ticket, for example. (I love Yelp - you know I do! But I think the google reviews of the Fox & Hound are far more representative of my experience here!)

We attended a retirement party at Fox & Hounds and the meal was the Sunday Buffet...unbelievably good selection and tasty food. The quality was there and it makes me think that they don't use short-cuts or processed foods. The mashed garlic red potatoes are REAL potatoes, and the eggs are REAL eggs! We referred friends, a family of 3 and they went for Easter Buffet and was impressed and plan to return for more holiday meals. Price is very reasonable.

I ate here recently as part of a large group (about 30 people) celebrating a 50 year anniversary (actually, someone did the math wrong and they were only married 49 years -- but the party proceeded anyhow). So, my experience may be not be entirely fair based on the fixed menu options available and the service of so many. If you like rustic, you'll love this place. It feels like you are in an old hunting lodge, with rooms that just go on and on. I love this aspect, I like big buildings with small spaces. Many of these small spaces have fireplaces in them, so you can feel as if you've been given the best table in the house. Lots of exposed timbers and mixture of high and low ceilings. We were there a couple of weekends ago in the winter and there were amazing icicles hanging along the roof which made the view out the bar areas windows really cool. I wasn't crazy about the food. I suspect if I was more of a "supper club" kind of guy, I would have liked it more. I had a steak and the typical sides (starch and vegetables). The steak was okay, a little chewy and tough but it had nice flavor. I had a baked potato, it was fine in the very unexciting way you'd expect from a baked spud. I take issue with the vegetables: I hate baby carrots. I find their presence in any restaurant meal to be laziness and just not caring about the vegetable. If it wasn't so far home, I may consider a revisit. But, they are "up there" a ways and not really my style.

We went here for Father's Day brunch and loved it. The brunch buffet was huge with something for everyone. My carnevour brother-in-law found ham, bacon and ribs (the ribs are amazing by the way); while those looking for more traditional breakfast food found strata, bacon and eggs. The dessert buffet was insane- so many delicious options! I also thought it was nice they had a variety of sugar free options. All and all, well worth the $14.95 price!

In the past I had always enjoyed The Fox and Hounds so I thought it would be a nice place to try for Mother's Day dinner. It has been a few years but considering the amount of cars in the lot I thought we'd have a good dining experience. We had reservations for 6:30pm and after a short wait we were seated in a quiet section overlooking a wooded area with a small pond. This use to be pretty upscale back several years ago and the first thing I noticed was the vinyl tablecloths and lack of table decor. This however didn't break the deal for me, just something I noticed. This use to be the place to go before dances or on dates, now ummm I'll pass... Now my one star is for our waitress and our salads. She was fairly knowledgable and quick. Our salads were nice and green, leaves crisp. For a simple dinner salad they passed the test. My daughter ordered the mozzarella sticks and they also were fine, but those are hard to mess up. They were tortilla wrapped which we prefer over the breaded kind. Next were the soups and I enjoy soup and eat most days, mainly homemade. My mother-in-law had the baked French onion and said it was very good. My father-in-law and I had the chicken dumpling, which is one of my favorite soups, but while this one had nice broth flavor there was mainly small shreds of dark meat (very little), veggies were almost nonexistent and the dumplings were in no way made here. They were tough and the pre-made type the comes from a machine as they were all the same shape and size and looked like shells sort of. I thought it was hard to mess up chicken dumpling soup but guess not. Now on to the meals. My daughter ordered a plain chicken breast and baked potato. The potato was overcooked, but edible. The chicken breast was WAY over cooked, dry and she said tasted funky. My MIL agreed. She doesn't eat much, so we chucked it off as one of those things. My MIL had a dinner salad and was happy with it. My husband and FIL both ordered smothered chicken and said it was okay, but not wonderful, neither finished and I said no way to trying it as it looked like some unknown mushy substance covered with cheese. My husband mainly ate the side of veggies it came with. I choose the Tenderloin Oscar. Baked potato was overcooked. I think they had cooked a large batch of they and keep them in steamers or something for a long period of time. They were to the point were they start the shrivel up, but yet seemed overly moist on outside. Hard to explain. Now my steak was suppose to be 8oz. grilled tenderloin topped with fresh crab meat, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce. I have had similar things like this and was looking forward to a nice steak. I ordered it med-rare. Ok now to what I actually got... It was an overcooked tough tenderloin with some sort of mushy brown stuff that was suppose to be crab meat no way was this fresh crab meat!!!!! The sauce was not even close to any hollandaise sauce I ever had. It looked more like some wacky version of nacho cheese sauce. It tasted terrible, I ended up scrapping off all the sauce and crab and tried to enjoy the steak, but no such luck. The three pieces of asparagus and side of veggies were the only thing I really ate. Thank goodness for carrots! I am not sure if they are opting to get cheap subpar products in order to have the buy one dinner get one dinner most nights, but something is seriously wrong in this kitchen. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone it was that terrible!!! We love the sister to this place called The Mineshaft and have little to no issues ever there so I was floored at the quality of the food coming out of this kitchen considering this to be more upscale. I don't know if this was just a bad night due to holiday, but after reading the reviews I am guessing not. So this place is now on my no way in hell list.

I was there saturday night me and my husband, It's not the first time am going there. I love that place and the food is very good. Saturday food excellent, but service was very not good. I was eating and she just come to the table and asked us if I want a box to go ( REALY). she just want to go home. it suck because it's very rare i had a day off and when i had one I like to go to you place because I love the food, but if the service is like this I don't thing am going back. sorry but , night was not very fun with a servcie like this. Fox and Hounds My family and I decided to go here after mass at Holy Hill. When I approached the front desk, the girls behind the desk saw me coming, but some person cut right in front of me. The workers didn't say anything. After the person in front of me left, I stepped up closer to the desk, and one of the girls picked up the phone. The other two pretended like I wasn't there. So I waited there patiently thinking to myself, "Wow..service sucks here. They choose to serve people over the phone more than the patrons standing right in front of them." I tried looking for their name tags, but two of the girls didn't have them on. They both had blue collared shirts with a black apron or uniform thing over it, black pants, and blond hair. The other person was Maria..she wasn't wearing a uniform but she had a name tag. This was on Sunday, June 19, Fathers day..it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be..no one was behind me or in front of me until that one customer came out of nowhere and cut. I guess a guy on the side noticed this and he helped me. I didn't get his name, but he was wearing a blue shirt and black pants. Thank you kind sir if you're reading this. That part was a downer considering that my whole family was there, it was fathers day, and we had a visitor from out of country with us. On the other hand, our server, Jen or Jennifer, was nice and helpful! We had sunday brunch here for about $15 per person. It was buffet..they had breakfast foods..scrambled eggs with cheese, thick bacon, ham, sausage, croissants, fruit pancakes. There was a few dinner selections such as roast beef, chicken, bbq ribs, steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, etc. The fried chicken..I think it may have been BBQ..was extra crispy and delicious! The mashed potatoes were to die for. They also had some deviled eggs that i felt to my liking. There were fruits and salads as well. They had a huge selection of sweets...I mean huge..like two big tables huge. The place is nicely decorated...lots of wood and rock/brick..we were in the hunting room or hunt room..not sure of the name. It had a fair share of game heads mounted on the wall..deer, a moose, a buffalo, some antlers, etc. There was a large fireplace also. It made the place look cozy. We had to walk through the kitchen or storage room to get through to the buffet. Our visitor mentioned that there were a lot of senior citizens lol. I guess there was..it reminded me of a classy Denny's hidden in the deep forests of Wisconsin. I'd go here again just for the food and good deal despite the unfortunate experience I had with the front desk.

We were in heaven. Have you ever seen a dessert section of a brunch buffet with over 30 options? Yeah, heaven. Oh, and the rest of the buffet was very yummy and extensive too! The place was pretty hopping on a Sunday around noon, so we're glad we made reservations for our party of 7. However, we might've got a table no problem in the back. But we liked our spot near the fireplace. $14 for the quality and quantity of brunch items was impressive. Plus, our waitress Lorry was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is very warm, woodsy, rustic, expansive (with some cozy spots), and comfortable while still maintaining an appropriate level of class. There were some people dressed in casual clothes (saw a girl in sweats) and some dressed in nicer clothes (perhaps coming straight from church). Would definitely visit again. A local institution that hopefully will stay in business for years to come and maintain a high level of service and food quality.

This is one of my favorite places to go for the ambiance. Especially in the winter months. Hardwood floors, burning fireplaces, a hunting lodge type feel. Very cozy and way out in the woods near Holy Hill. During December they have giant Chrismas trees and Christmas decorations throughout. The food here is good. Not exceptional but good. And they have a "buy one, get one free" deal. So it's not very expensive. We spent more money on the bottle of wine than the food! :) I recommend this place for a cozy, romantic winter time date.

What can you say about the Fox & Hounds? As part of the Mineshaft family of restaurants, you shouldn't expect more than normal food service quality at fair prices. I would give the atmosphere, drive, ambience, and all other aspects besides the food and service 4 stars. The cabin feel, the different rooms, the drive through the woods of the Holy Hill area all are great. Then there's the food. We had a chicken soup with asparagus which was a creamy mess and had zero flavor. Side salads were watery and nothing special. The salad dressings were straight from the fridge as they weren't even mixed well. The chili was the only saving grace, but it was served lukewarm with cold shredded cheese. The club sandwich had a good combination of turkey, bacon, lettuce on wheat bread. Drinks were fine, but the beer was not overly cold and tasted as though the lines needed some cleaning. There was about a 3 to 1, server to patron ratio with many servers standing around, talking, etc. as we waited for our check and dishes to be cleared. With the great space, I truly wish the food was good to make the trip worthwhile.

We went for a Sunday brunch with a large group (we had reservations - I'm sure you would need them). The scenery was beautiful and the bar was full with a small TV (not good if you wanted to watch the Packer game). The brunch was delicious, the drinks were expensive and our waitresses left something to be desired for customer service. I wouldn't really call it kid friendly, they looked annoyed when we asked for two high chairs and they brought my 3 year old a huge glass bar class for his milk - luckily he didn't spill/break the glass. My overall feeling is it would be great with reservations and no children. The brunch seemed way too busy and the staff was overwhelmed so maybe try their buy one get one dinner special on a week night. Hopefully your customer experience experience is better than ours (I am picky as a former waitress). Pro tip: just bring people more drinks when they ask, they will figure out how to pay you.

We recently held a surprise 70th birthday party at the Fox and Hounds. Planning was a breeze. The guests had snacks and drinks while waiting for the birthday girl. When we got there we were having a little trouble keeping our group together (which included the birthday girl) and the hostess did a fantastic job stalling until the rest of the group could catch up so we could all enter the room together. The staff working the party were fantastic. Everyone loved their food. I would definitely use them again.

This place is definitely decent. The food won't blow your mind, but it does the job, very nice attetnive service, a nice spread for brunch, and a good spot for a fish fry.

Attractive atmosphere. Great location. Very good service and excellent food. Had the 8 oz tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and they were excellent.

Visited the restaurant on Feb 6th to celebrate a few birthdays in the family. We had eight people in the party and I think either the 7th or 8th person pushes you into the automatic tip category. This basically means that the waitress can neglect you to her heart's content and she'll still get her 18%. In retrospect, I should have stepped away from the table and located the manager for a little discussion. Anyway, the service was absolutely terrible. A reservation was made (well in advance) for 7pm so we were seated quickly but it all went downhill from there. Every task seemed to take 15-mins and many requests for things like water refills were completely forgotten. From the time we were seated until the food was on the table took 80-mins and I'd guess that we ordered about 15-mins after being seated. After the table was cleared, it took another 15~20-mins to get the bill. Looking at my credit card receipt, the time is stamped at 9:12pm. We all arrived promptly at 7pm and were seated by 7:10pm. This tells you that we were at the table for 2 hours. I am all about an hour long meal with good conversation and short intervals of time between courses. However, 2-hours at the table is unconscionable! I'd guess that since they've changed their buy-one-get-one promotion to cover Saturday that they just can't manage the volume of patrons. Trouble is that the price of the meals are all 2x what they should be so your bill in the end will be exactly what it would be anywhere else. Where they get you is if you have an odd number of people or children. The odd man out will essentially pay double for his meal because you don't have another person to offset the cost. Children in the party? Their meals will be free (with each parent's meal) but the parent's meal will be exorbitantly priced ($20~$25). If the food wasn't good, I would have rated it a one-star.

Generally, excellent. Ambiance is important to me and the setting in the woods on the lake is great. The interior is like a hunting lodge with many nice touches, There are many rooms with a nice bar in the basement with an outdoor patio. The menu is extensive and with the Saturday through Thursday two-for-one price, it's quite reasonable. If you're a single, the place is expensive, so bring a friend. The four of us had Ribeye steak, Drunken shrimp, Wallleye and Backribs, all of which were good. When I asked the waitress how old the building was, she said, "about 16." I said, "only sixteen years." No, she said, "about 1600." Not good. Desserts look very good on the presented tray, but we'll have to save that for next time. We'll be back.

This place have horrible service. It started when I called the place and reserved a table for 6. The person who answered my call was short and rude. I said we have 6 people, 3 adults, 2 are babies and 1 child. The person snapped and said, "so how many chairs? " Then we got there and the hostess did not greet us hello. She simply said, "how many". I then said we have a reservation at 12:30. It was 12:30 at that time but the hostess said there will be a 20 minute wait. 20 minutes later we were seated and it took another 10 minutes for our server to acknowledge us although I have seen her passed our table several times. We got our drinks but that was all of our interaction with the wait staff until it was time for our check. We had to ask other waitresses for napkins or drinks. I still left a $5 tip although I wished I hadn't left one. When we left the hostess did not say goodbye to us, rather, just looked at us as we exited. I gave this place a 1 star because the food was decent and fairly priced however the place have horrible service and very unfriendly and uninviting. This was my first time here and I will never come back and I recommend this only if you are looking for cheap brunch with horrible service.

On our way back, we found this beautiful place for a pit stop. We thought it was German cuisine but sadly that was 8 years ago. Aesthetically, it is beautiful. I give it two less stars for false advertising of having German food when it is not.

Oh the joyous deliciousness of a perfectly cooked filet mignon! I love comfort food and Fox & Hounds Restaurant provided me with that delicious feeling that only a filet can bring. I generally don't order one of these because I am usually disappointed, and my husband is a wonderful cook. However, this one was spot on! The meal service was exceptional, starting with the restaurant's accommodating nature for our ever-changing plans. Given this was a larger party for graduation, and the fact that the reservations were made well in advance, they were extremely accommodating for our party. I call that great customer service! Our server was very attentive but did not hover. He took our orders and brought out our meal in a timely fashion. He even listened to the mother of the graduate when she requested the bill be given to her versus her father-in-law who wanted to pay. The prices were what I would expect. However, we were given the added bonus of a 2 for 1 special and the entire bill was half than what my girlfriend expected to pay. Excellent food, superb customer service, top notch restaurant.

I will not go back! Ate there last night. Had their buy 1 get 1 free special. Even so, for four of us it was $130, and we only had soda to drink. I have been there many times over the past twenty five years, but the quality of the food has just gone down so much in the past few years. This was no exception. Tough grades of steak, ribs that tasted like they were reheated from leftovers and vegetables that were anything but fresh. It is a shame. They have an excellent location and a very charming building, but it can not make up for overpriced, low quality food and unremarkable service. I would go elsewhere.

I would have actually given this restaurant 4 or 4.5 stars but I went with a rather large group and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The restaurant is WAY off the beaten path. When you are finally sure you must have passed it and double check the GPS that's when it finally appears. The outside has a very German look about it. Very cool. Because of the large group we were limited to shrimp alfredo, lemon mushroom chicken, walleye (which I found tempting ) and their famous prime rib. That's what I had. It was good. A bit overcooked but not much. Still it was delicious. The wait staff was excellent. The ambiance was as well.

Came in to a 6:30 reservation on Saturday night that we rushed to get to only to have 4 hungry people wait 30+ minutes near the crowded bar. There were some good beers on tap including Dogfish Head 90 minute, but it was next to impossible to talk to my company with the standing / crowding issues. I understand unexpected eating times, but there were a whole lot of people waiting. Everyone raved about the prime rib, and that's basically what we were all there for. We all ordered in relatively short order once the waitress finally showed up, but it still took quite a bit of time to to get the bread (granted, it was pretty tasty) and eventually our meals. My medium rare prime rib was very medium (as was everyone else's) - kind of a bad deal if that's the special. The cake that I shared was pretty tasty though and overall the location looks like a nice place to enjoy a meal. The bogo gimmick is nice for keeping out the single seaters I guess, but still seems like a bit more gimmick than deal. It does make for a good excuse to get a second dessert though. The location is pretty and the building is cool - but some things definitely need to be worked on.

Surf n turf we had was really good. We also had the pot pie soup which was out of this world. The cinnamon, sugar butter with the fresh bread is always a treat. You cant go wrong here.

This place is terrible, the buy one get one free is a joke- they are obviously overcharging for the quality of food so they can 'mark it down.' Had a steak, it was fine. Not great, fine. Apparently we stayed too long because we caught the waitress on her phone taking pics of us. I am sure to 'shame us' on social media. Complained to the manager who seemed to be not believing she even had a phone because 'they aren't allowed to.' Well, I know that I know what a phone looks like and can tell if someone is holding one.... Time to update the decor, pricing strategy, and staff

Ahh, how the mighty Fox and Hounds has fallen. First off, this was(key word) one of my favorite restaurants. I get what they attempted to do, they took a beautiful location that most people could only afford to go to once a year and opened the experience to the masses. I'm not a "fine" diner by any means but have a certain expectation of service/food from each place I go to. I don't expect white tablecloths at McDonalds. I've heard from a few different people how their recent experiences at The Fox and Hounds were horrible. I guess the Mother's Day brunch was a joke. We recently made a reservation for my Mother's birthday. We went on an off night and pretty early. Our party got stuck in a tiny Room (more like a hallway) right by the bar with no windows. We requested to be moved but they said all their tables were full. We could see multiple tables large enough to accommodate our group that remained empty the whole time. That was strike one. Our waitress took 20 minutes to come to our table, and only visited to bring out the food and then our check. Our bread for our party was brought out on one bread board with loaves about to fall off. No butter was given and I had to go to the bar to ask for some as our waitress disappeared. Our salads came with cucumber slices or should I say chunks an inch thick. All the steaks came out undercooked and cold. The carrots they serve now are round balls and like to dodge your fork as you try to poke them. My sister isn't a potato fan and asked for extra veggies, she was told there would be an up-charge even though the sides are all the same price if ordered separate. The whole process from clearing the table to getting our check took about 20 minutes. This is two bad experiences I've had in a row. The last fish fry I went too was disappointing at best. I'm not sure how it's possible since the fox and hounds does so much volume, but they must have fried a bag of something that was freezer burnt which tainted the oil and all the other food they fried that night. Every order that was put in had a freezer burnt taste to everybody in my party. I always thought their buy one get one was a gimmick, and it now proves to be since it's every day. All it does now is tick off parties with odd numbers, they won't let you take a free meal to go. Why don't they just use reasonable prices and skip all the BS? I'm going to steer clear and go to restaurants that actually value the customer. The Fox and Hounds is a beautiful place, with average to slightly above average food, but horrible customer service, and a management/advertising philosophy that reminds me of ambulance chasing lawyers or a used car dealership. Whatever ding dong that thinks that people want to look at those tacky advertising placemats does not deserve to own that beautiful place. They even have a septic company advertising on them. Seriously? You're advertising a company that deals with human waste at your restaurant table? Imagine a restaurant version of the Beverly Hillbillies. It makes for entertaining TV, but a horrible dining experience.

Sorry, I don't see what you're all griping about. It's Washington County wealthy folks (and old folks, and wealthy old folks) going out to eat. If you want hip and trendy, stay in MKE. Had the steak wrapped in bacon topped with bleu cheese. My god. Amazing. Loved the bread and found the potatoes not too seasoned but not bland. DH had the ribs, and they were tender and delicious. My only drawback was harried service, but that's a packed supper club on a Friday night...

"At home he feels like a tourist. He fills his head with culture. He gives himself an ulcer." - Gang of Four. My wife and I were being tourists and visiting Holy Hill for the first time. Photography in the cold made us both hungry. We saw the Fox & Hounds large sign and decided to check it out. The sign says one mile south, but I believe it's further than that. We found the restaurant and there were many cars, good sign. RUSTIC. The decor is amazing and unexpected. The building started as a one-room cabin in 1845. It's been a restaurant since 1933. We were greeted by a hostess and seated. The Sunday lunch menu was pretty boring so the waitress explained their BUFFET. We took a look and decided upon that. The place was uncomfortably full of people. The tables are too close together and simply walking to the buffet and back required some bringing in of elbows and fancy foot work. All the while there are wait staff with plates and hot coffee to contend with also. It wasn't loud though, all the dead animals on the wall must deaden the sound. Our waitress was a pro, could tell she had given the same instructions five thousand times to where she pretty much interrupted and answered for you. Slightly annoying. The buffet was $14.99 each. It had a mixture of breakfast and lunch items. Highlights were corned beef hash, sliced sirloin, crab salad, garlic mashed potatoes and cole slaw. COMFORT FOOD. There was pickled herring which was unusual and tasty. The dessert tables are large! Lots of small bites, made in house by the same baker. I tried a few of them, standard combinations of chocolate, peanut butter, fruit. A chocolate coconut macaroon was especially good. Brad E's review breaks down the buffet options nicely. VERDICT: The building is full blast rustic charm. The service is small town friendly and attentive. The buffet food was okay. I wouldn't make the thirty minute trip to only dine here but if being a tourist again in the area or showing family the area, I would visit again. SOCIAL MEDIA: The Fox & Hound are hip to social media with their own YouTube channel and are on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

Disappointed. My memories of this place include linen, silver, and stemware, not viinyl table cloths, paper napkins (although they did give us extras), and tableware similar to Denny's. When the menus were presented we were shocked to see the layout was like the Perkin's we had breakfast at the day before, and unfortunately, so was the dinner - steak we cold have picked up at the grocery store - not Dry-Aged as I expected. In the past, you would not even think of going to The Fox and Hounds in anything less than a sport coat and slacks. Now it appears that baseball caps worn backwards, flannel shirts and jeans are appropriate - I was over dressed. It is what it is, just not where I would take my wife NEXT year on our Anniversary...nor for any other occasion.

Nice locale, nice atmosphere. They rely a little too much on their relatively unique building/location and atmosphere, and don't really throw as much effort into menu/food quality and waitstaff as they should . Mind you, it's not bad, it just doesn't stand out as memorable. Okay, it did hit me as a tad salty for my liking. I will be happy to dine there again if given the opportunity, but the food isn't the reason - and shouldn't that always be at least part of the reason? This place would be over-the-top awesome if the menu and food quality drove traffic, not just the 'cabin in the woods by the lake'.
