Please see letter I wrote to management. Literally, unless you like seeing garbage all over the floor and being completely ignored... I'd skip this place. Not sure why on earth anyone would tell us this was a good place for dinner with our 4 year old... but they did! Greetings Harbor Bar, My husband, daughter and I visited your bar last night around 6pm. I wanted to let you know that it was the most awful experience I've ever had at a bar and I've been to some real dumps in my life and had better service. We sat between two picnic tables at an empty picnic table. We sat, and the elderly waitress with lots of jewelry walked past our table as she waited on the two tables on either side of us. She completely ignored us. I'm not talking about a few passes... I mean for thirty minutes she completely ignored us. I'm not sure if she hates kids, or if she didn't like the looks of us or what... but she wouldn't acknowledge us. She'd look right at us and not say a word. We actually just sat there for a long time trying to figure out how long she could possibly keep up ignoring us. FINALLY, we gave up and my husband headed inside to the bar. He got us all a drink and we expected then someone perhaps would come to see if we wanted dinner. The tables next to us flipped with new guests.. she'd greet them... the table next to us got their food delivered. Then the two Jamaican servers were around... neither acknowledged us. I finally walked back up to the bar and asked for a menu. The only reason that we didn't just leave and not have dinner is because we were tired and just wanted to get something to eat and go home.. we didn't want to deal with getting back in the car and finding somewhere else to eat. I went to the bar asked for a menu. We picked out what we were going to eat and placed our order with the bartender. Then.. all of a sudden, the old lady waitress started talking to us... she came over and said "your food should be out shortly" .. it was the strangest thing. She brought our check, brought us a styrafoam box... *even thought we asked her not to because that stuff is nasty* and like hovered around waiting for us to pay our newly delivered check. I couldn't figure out if she thought we were going to try to leave without paying or if she wanted a tip or what... it was the strangest and worst service I've ever had. The chicken fingers were great. The pork sandwich was cold and bland. I also ordered the "upgrade shrimp skewer for $6 to my meal" even though the bartender insisted it was not a thing until I pointed it out on the menu. It was old shrimp, awesome seasoning... way to go on that, that were like so old and cold there's no way that they had been cooked any time in the last hour. I'm not sure why someone would serve me a skewer of old shrimp... but then none of your place made sense to me. I was disappointed to see plastic cups laying all over the grass and watch your staff completely ignore them. I watched cups blow right into the river. The garbage coming off of your place is polluting the place. I was disappointed to see a staff that cared so little about the opportunity to have a pretty cool spot by the riverside. Anyhow, that's my story. I manage a large restaurant in Minneapolis and just thought you should know what goes on in your place on a Sunday night in the summer time.
Eating here in the summer is a must. Outdoor city with a gorgeous view of the best river city in the country. Their Cajun/Jamaican summer menu, music, and shopping brings a flavor of the South to the chill of the North.
The Harbor is an odd spot across the river from Red Wing. The food is quite good and portions large, but a tad pricey for what it is. The beer selection is nice, with Spotted Cow on tap. Service is unpredictable, but usually cheery. The place is QUITE casual, bordering on dive-y, with some fairly charming Caribbean decor. In general, it's a really fun place to hang out, particularly in summer, as the tables along the Mississippi offer an awesome view of Red Wing and the bluffs.
