Usually if you tell a foodie that the Hideaway has really good wings you get one of two reactions: where? Or omg, I know, but it's so far! I would like to give this place 5 stars but the service here is hit or miss. I've had great experiences and not so great ones. The food, especially the chicken wings, is the real star. I will second the sauces could be better feeling the other yelp reviews have, but tonight they had a bourbon siracha that I couldn't help but like. It was more sweet than spicy, but way better than a regular bbq sauce. I have yet to try the fish fry which I hear is fantastic. The wings are worth the drive! The place is busy most nights. The key is early or late. Before 5 or after 7 and parking is no problem. I would definitely say this is a suburban gem.

We just ate there with a big group after some soccer games, they accommodated our reservation with a few extras. Dora was a great sever, quick with a joke and a lite of our smokes, as long as you smoke outside :) food came out at the same time, everything was hot and good. Burgers were tasty, as well as the pasta dishes and the prime rib was really good.

It's been two years since I've reviewed, and nothing has changed. This place is fantastic. Fish fry on Friday continues to be amazing. I have turned many people into fans of this place, and many of my friends go here regularly. Their burgers, pizza, pasta, fish, you name it - it's fantastic. This is a hidden gem of Milwaukee county.

dive bar with some of the best wings I've had in Milwaukee! Juicy, perfectly cooked, not overly breaded, and covered in good buffalo sauce served with chunky blue cheese. I definitely plan on coming back again and again for the wings and beer! Husband and his buddy really liked the burgers.

The food was above average but service was to slow. Seemed more like they were understaffed than indifferent. We had the soup, pizza and wraps. Beer selection was good and prices were appropriate.

A while back, I took the trek to The Hideaway in Franklin. The Friday Fish Fry Guide and other articles listed this venue with one of the best fish fries. There are plenty of fish fry options on the menu plus other specials listed on the board. On my visit, specials included Parmesan Tilapia, Blackened Tilapia, and Pan Fried Tilapia. I ordered the Wisconsin Platter from the menu, which included battered walleye, perch, and blue gill with choice of potato, cole slaw and bread. I asked if my fish could be lightly breaded and pan fried. Since I arrived before 4:30 and the rush hadn't started, the kitchen obliged and I was very grateful tothem and to my server who took the time to ask. The service was great! The fish was cooked perfectly. I loved every bite. The homemade potato pancakes had a great flavor but the texture and temperature of these shredded potato patties seemed as if they sat under a heat lamp too long. The rye bread was served soft and warm and the cole slaw was pretty good too, not too creamy. Unfortunately the lighting was too dim for me to take flashless photos, and I don't like to use a flash in a restaurant. I'm glad I finally made it out and I recommend The Hideaway to anyone looking for a great fish fry.

I'm only rating this place with 5 stars because Scot is the best bartender they have. Great personality, great drink maker! He left so this place sucks now! Idiot owner. Now one is the best they get

Food was excellent but service unbelievably slow. We arrived at 12:00 & 20" later had not even received a menu. So I went up and got one hoping we'd at least be able to order once server showed up. When she finally arrived, she did apologize for the delay. She came back with our beverages and a basket of some tasty popcorn. Our entrees took a while but we expected that since menu has good variety of foods. When it came she asked if we needed anything. We asked for refills on our iced tea. She said okay but we didn't see her again until we were done eating. The food was very good. I had fried chicken breast with shredded onion rings inside a flour tortilla topped with cheddar cheese sauce. It came with fries which were so-so but then I'm not a French fry fan. She asked if I needed box for leftovers. Not sure where they stock them but that even took forever. By this time the place was no longer busy so not sure the reason for delay. It was after 2pm by time she brought our bill. Really--- 2 +hours for lunch??? I'd go back again for food but if service is always slow motion I don't think I can do it. Too bad staff not care about customers.

Great food and great service! Everyone's very friendly and welcoming! The fish fry on Fridays is excellent! I would suggest calling ahead and making a reservation because it fills up fast.

Good Friday Fish Fry options - a great variety! Not the best, but good. Potato pancakes were very good as were the fries! Restaurant was PACKED - even at 8:00pm!

Great atmosphere and amazing food. Fast & friendly service and the best popcorn in the world!! Owner Debbie knows what she's doing and changes the menu often enough to keep 'em coming back for more.

I've been a Hideaway customer for many years but never stopped in on a Friday because the place is always packed! Now I know why, I've been there on a Friday afternoon twice in the last month and the fish dinner selection is outstanding. I tried two different combination plates and they were equally delicious! Don't get me started on the potato pancake, I had it on both visits and would go there on foot to have one again! It's an even more enjoyable experience now that the patio area is open. The cocktails and service were great also! Thanks Deb, you and your staff rock!

We love stopping in here for a casual night, especially in the summer when you can sit out on their big patio. If you want loud, boisterous and fun...sit in the bar, otherwise the dining room is a bit more laid back. The food is good especially their Sunday fried-chicken special and their homemade soups. The service is friendly and helpful.

This evening my wife and I had the most wonderful fish dinners - fried perch and blackened salmon, respectively. My wife had the fries with her dinner with an excellent cole slaw. The salmon came with a choice of potato, I selected the potato pancake, with fresh vegetables. The food was tremendous and the bill with libations very reasonable. It's on the top of fish fry lists!

First time at the Hideaway and I was really pleased with my meal. I had the baked fish and it was delicious. Ordered some apps too, they were great! Drinks, not the best and a little overpriced for watered down mixers. Wait staff was friendly but there seemed to be some confusion within the staff on reservations, lists and waits and it made many of the customers frustrated. This was a Friday in Milwaukee during Lent so I guess that is to be expected - busy as heck and a little frantic. I enjoyed the food and the place was pretty nice too. They wait for the food was pretty long, that wasn't great but I will not hold it against them unless it continues. I look forward to going back.

So here it is: only since moving to Wisconsin a few years ago did I start to eat white fish. Which is a very good thing as Wisconsin seems to have a very fish-centric culture on Fridays. The Hideaway has an excellent fish fry, my boyfriend is a huge fan of their bluegill which he says is rare to find on menus. I'll take his word since I'm a fish fry novice. I usually steal a bite or two of his fried fish as I cannot seem to do a whole plate of the crispy fried stuff by myself. I can however easily chow down on the Hideaway's blackened walleye. It was perfectly blackened and very flavorful served with generous portions of either fries, potato pancakes, or baked spuds. I opted for the fried because it was what I craved that night. There was no way I could have possibly finished the two huge walleye filets and the fries and the coleslaw. I've also had the burger which was just ok, but I thought their grilled spicy chicken sandwich was much better. I'm a girl who positively craves hot sauce so I feel compelled to try it every place I visit that has a "spicy" version of whatever on their menu. While I haven't had their pizzas they look amazing, very thin and crispy with lots of toppings. It's on the list to try but we keep getting distracted by the fish.

We've been here a few times recently and the food has been sub par. Under cooked and fries tasted like yesterday's grease. What was good service has changed to "hurry up & order since I'm too busy to give you my time". May stop for a beer but skip the food.

I was out in Wisconsin on business from California and stopped by the Hideaway for lunch. I was with three of my co workers and as we walked in, felt like the scene in the movie, The Knockaround Guys where they walk into the bar in the small town they were in. The waitress recommended the Butterscotch Root Beer and the Rueben Sandwhich so I decided to try both. The Butterscotch Root Beer is pretty amazing but it's one of those things where after a few drinks, you're kind of done with it. They set popcorn out on your table kind of like chips in a Mexican restaurant. The popcorn wasn't horribly exciting. Here's where things took a turn toward the amazing, I opted for potato cheese soup instead of fries. The soup was a bowl of creamy cheesy joy. Then came the Rueben which was the best Rueben that I've ever had. I would it even better than the Rueben sandwhiches at Katz in NYC. Although If you're ever in the area, try this place out, you won't be sorry.

Excellent fish fry, get there early or you will be waiting. We actually had to park on the street due to the parking lot being filled. The menu is basic with a small assortment of AP's to choose from. The drinks are very weak, if you are going there to drink, it may take a while to get a buzz.. If you are going to the Hideaway, you are going for the food, and good food. Our table ordered everything from the fried fish to the baked, and everyone had good things to say. When it came down to it, we all got quiet and just chowed. We will go back there when in the mood for a fish fry for sure.

Fish Fry Review: Large bar and restaurant area. Parking kind of scarce. They have a large variety of fish fry and seafood: Lake Perch, Walleye, beer battered - Cod, Shrimp, baked Cod, Wisconsin Platter, Friday Trio, Seafood Platter, Fried Sea Scallops, and Blue Gill. All dinners included a choice of potato, cole slaw, and rye bread. Price range from $8.25 to $14.99. Not bad but not great. No WOW factor. I was still hungry afterwards...if it wasn't Friday during Lent I would have tried the Pizza Rolls.

I love chicken wings. I guess you could say I'm a chicken wing aficionado. I'd read something about the Hideaway having great wings and a wings special on Weds., I knew I had to stop in. The special is $0.35 cent wings all night. Tossed in your choice of our special sauces: wimpy, medium, hot, inferno, honey-mustard, BBQ, teriyaki, thai-chili, jerk, or order them naked with the sauce on the side. So, as you can see, they have a great selection for different tastes. And the wings are HUGE and very meaty. This should be my absolute favorite place for wings. But the sauces aren't anything to write home about. They aren't awful but there's nothing distinguishing about them and they just don't stand out from wings at any other bar in Milwaukee. If you love wings and more concerned about bang for your buck, definitely come here. They are the biggest wings I've seen served in Milwaukee. If they could only come up with better sauces, I'd be a regular there!

I went there based on a comment someone made in the local paper. When we got there, I had a big "uh oh" feeling because the lot was full, and there were dozens of cars parked on the road. I pulled in to the lot anyway to let my companions out. As they exited the car, a spot next to the door opened up. We were seated immediately, but we made a HUGE mistake sitting in the bar area rather than the dining room. The noise was awful! And we endured it for quite a while, as it took forever to get our fish fry. Now the food part. The beer battered cod was good, as were the potato pancakes. Cole slaw was also very good. As I started my second piece, one of my party remarked I was the only one of the three who received tartar sauce. I flagged the waitress over, and she brought two containers of it, except one was actually sour cream. I would go back. But I'll eat in the dining room. And since the waitress seemed quite busy, I'll forgive the tartar sauce mix up. That is a job I could not do.

Solid Milwaukee-style (ie, comes w/ potato pancake and rye bread and butter) fish fry. Came here on a Friday night after a meeting in Milwaukee. This is the place to be, so the parking lot and the side of the road were packed with cars. The fish is delicious -- crispy, light, tasty. In the main dining room, you feel a bit like you're at a VFW fundraiser or in a church basement, but that's a good thing in my book.
