Ephraim Inn

I am sorry that the only other reviewer was very unhappy. However, had they checked out on time, all unhappiness could have been avoided. But I digress from my review....The Ephraim Inn is charming. It is across the street from the water, which is very pleasant. It is definitely country themed, but as soon as you walk in, you feel as if you are in someone's home, with a woody feel, complete with fireplace, cozy chairs and inviting nooks to read or relax. Our room was country charming - warm and cozy, not your cookie cutter chain hotel look, with quilts on the bed, cute lamps, and beautiful decorative stenciling on the walls. By the way, the owner did the stenciling, which must have taken her forever and was beautifully done. All the people we interacted with were very friendly and personable. This is a husband and wife team who own and run the Inn and care what happens there! They are a good mix....he is naturally outgoing - the essence of a people person, while she is equally friendly, but a bit more retiring. One morning I watched her as I ate breakfast....she never stopped working, going up and down stairs with bedding, answering guest questions, talking to and helping the maids. He was a wealth of information for guest questions. As I said, a very good team, watchful, hands on owners. The breakfast, served from 8-10 am, is good. They have homemade granola, breads and bagels, Door County jelly, yogurt, cereals, hard boiled eggs, one sweet breakfast pastry item. One day there were zucchini muffins, the next a coffee cake. There are juices, water, and I believe some apples, bananas and oranges. Speaking of food, they have turn down service each night, which includes cookies by the bedside. As this is not a large hotel, you aren't going to find a huge ice maker on each floor, but they do have a under the counter refrigerator with enough ice for some beverages. There are some rules that are different from a hotel. You pay a deposit and the remainder when you check in.You get two room keys. At breakfast, you will be asked to leave one of them. This lets them know who has eaten and presumably so they know which rooms can be cleaned. When you go out for dinner, you will leave the extra key again. This is so they can turn down your bed and leave those cookies for your return later that night. They have a blow dryer, shampoo and conditioner....the towels are artfully rolled and placed in a basket outside the bathroom - remember to bring them into the bathroom for your shower! This was my husband's first Bed and Breakfast experience. He was a bit wary of whether or not this was for him. In the end, he enjoyed it very much! While we are not familiar with all the towns and places to stay in Door County, if you are looking for a quieter, relaxing experience with a view of the water, the Ephraim Inn will fill the bill quite nicely!

The new owners are friendly. The lodge is located in a nice spot, 1/2 block from water. The food offerings were very good. The beds were comfortable, however the bathroom is very small, and this place is older, however room was clean, but as we entered, I was hit in the face with a very musty/moldy smell. We were shown to our room, a nice touch. I paid $170 something for the room, which I felt was too much for an older place with such a small bathroom, but it is Door County. I prefer newer and larger. The new owners just got there, so perhaps they will address the smell, if they are aware of it. Not good reception for phone/internet, but TV picture was good.
We stayed over for 2 nights at the end of October. We stayed in a suite. In one room was a large hot tub, fireplace, comfortable recliner, full couch, kitchen table and chairs, television and small kitchen, and the other room was the king size bed and bath. The layout was perfect, as were our hosts. Sue made amazing breakfasts with good coffee and fruit, as well as a homemade snack in the afternoon. It was a cold end to October so we stayed in the room and relaxed much of the time. The hot tub filled faster than any I have seen, and the fireplace kept the room toasty. When we ventured out, we hiked the Eagle trail, ate an amazing dinner at the Wickman House, tasted cider at Island Orchard, and caught the sunset at Ellison Bluff. I would definitely come back to gracious hosts and such a relaxing place.
Mike and Jamie are the new owners of this wonderful B and B. I know people have come here for years and felt attached to the previous owners, but rest assured, you are in very capable hands with these lovely and warm people. They only want to please and they did so in every possible way. Friendly, chatty, helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and had a great variety. Location is great and I loved that there are no children, dogs or smoking allowed. Nothing against kids, (I have 2 of my own), but when you get away as a couple, you look forward to the peace and quiet. Definitely will be back!

Ok this is original. Your not gonna find this anywhere but here. Go out of your way. Make a date. It's great and tasty and the outdoor seating is perfect with a burrito as big as your head. What a why to start a great day on door. Thanks
I have been to this restaurant probably 8 times since they opened years ago. The staff is exceptional and the food is great. My biggest gripe, and the only reason why I can't give the restaurant 4 stars, is the ridiculous wait. In the past, you might wait 10 to 15 minutes before they take your order and then another 10 minutes or so until you are out the door. Recently, they started taking online orders. While this is convenient, it leads to longer and more frustrating waits at the restaurant because the grill is full of online orders. Today I was first in line, waited over twenty minutes for online orders to clear, and finally just left because I couldn't wait 45 minutes for a burrito. I could have ordered online but that shouldn't be the better experience.
This is a difficult review to write, and I will definitely be catching some flack from my lady on this one, but I just have to give it 3 stars. While the food and service is awesome, there were some things lacking that I can not neglect. We stop at this chill little cabana every time we are in Door County. The service, once you get there is outstanding and personalized. The owner/operator does a wonderful job at working the crowed as you approach the grill and until you leave joint. The food is fabulous and customized, and they serve Alterra coffee! Speaking of coffee, I would have loved to have a cup as I waited in line, which was a long time. It just sat there tempting me, calling for me. The food is just breakfast wraps, you can get them with potatoes and cheese, veggies, meat, or all of the above. The biggest thing missing for me was a list of available vegetables, meats, cheeses and wraps. The chef has to list them off every time someone is up to order, which delays the process and causes people to have to make a decision while he is waiting on them. Throw a list up and I would bet your line would move much smoother. Not to mention I like to think about those kinds of things before I order my food, not as I am doing it. They are a cash only business, but they conveniently have an ATM with a $2.00 surcharge that goes to Good Eggs, probably where they make most of their profit. The machine ran dry when I went for cash and they just filled it up from the register till. It isn't that hard to get a credit card scanner these days. Anyway, bring cash. If you don't mind waiting for your food, and you are looking for a delicious breakfast, then this is your place. At least check it out once, and if it is too long of a line for you, at least you tried. One thing I learned afterward, and totally would have taken advantage of is ordering online or on Facebook. Would much rather have ordered and picked up than waited in that long line. Next time I suppose.

Great place would go back again. Crowded but they keep the line moving. I has a root beer float it was just like I remembered as a kid. My husband wished he had ordered it himself. Maybe next time buddy.
Ahhhh Wilson's. Keep a place open long enough and you somehow earn the right to charge a ridiculous amount of money for your ice cream based on the fact that it's tradition. Catch a glimpse of the sun setting over Green Bay while you sit on their front porch licking away at the some of best homemade Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream in Door County. I can't wait for summer.
A door county classic, great burgers, great ice cream and good service.

Perfectly clean. We had a queen size suite with a view. Nice and quiet. The rooms are well supplied. Nice sitting area on the water for guests. We had a first floor room that walks right out. Very nice. The rooms looked exactly like the web site so you know what you are getting. The staff was friendly and helpful. Cable TV and free Wifi. No DVD player. We didn't try the restaurant.
Good value, clean rooms. Right by the lake, great spot right in front to see the sunset. Right next to Wilson's :) I was happy
This place must have 4 1/2 stars for its accommodations, but definitely not for the food. It is a small restaurant above the lobby. The decor is aged and the table cloths are vinyl. The food is lax diner quality.

Came here with a large group of 8 adults and a baby on Sunday morning and were seated right away. They have an outdoor eating area which would have been nice on a milder day. We were seated by the soup bar which had about 5 or 6 different soups. The service was very friendly and prompt. I ordered the country skillet (I think that's what it was called) and liked the idea of having sprouts to top the eggs. The hashed browns were nice and crisp. I liked how the restaurant had a mexican flair to it, offering breakfast burritos and horchatas. Free refills on the horchatas too!
They have great soups and pretty good Mexican food. However the service and pricing is what led me to give them 2 stars. They are completely understaffed when I went in for a mid-week lunch. I think there was just one guy running around and he was doing his best but it was slow. Also if you want to split a meal and get the soup you have to pay $5.95 and only get one small cup of soup. Seriously...it can't be that expensive. Even with a full meal you only get a cup of soup...lame, I wanted to try a couple but wasn't allowed to. You can't call it a soup bar and only get one trip.
The Athenian salad was unbearably salty. I told the waitress, but I was still charged (even though I didn't eat the salad) $15 for it. If you want soup or bread, this is your place. But for a real meal, don't go here.
