We tried this spot for our last night in Door County and it was absolutely terrific. I had eaten here when it was T. Ashwell's and I loved the setting but I wasn't in love with the food -- a little too staid for me -- Wickman House is such a nice change and I know that we will be back here next summer. There were five of us for dinner -- my parents, my hubby, me and our 2 year old. They had dinosaurs in the back (not real ones of course) that they brought out for my 2 year old to play with -- that certainly won him over. But what won me over was the food -- I had a delicious burger that was perfectly cooked. We had warm rolls to start the meal and it was all I could do not to eat the whole plate of them. They had a nice salty flavor which was perfect. Moscow Mules for cocktails and delicious flourless chocolate cake with caramel and sea salt for dessert? I'm sold. The fact that they use mostly locally sourced ingredients -- that makes me a happy girl! Service was terrific (as I expected after reading the yelp reviews) and the entire atmosphere was wonderful. They don't try to cram too many tables in which is a nice change from many touristy locations (and from my usual experience in Chicago). This is a must try for anyone coming to Door County who wants an elevated yet still casual dining experience! I'm looking forward to coming back next summer -- for dinner and for brunch!
My husband and I took a party of 7 adults to dinner at the Wickman House. After carefully reading reviews, I made a reservation and looked forward to a wonderful evening. Upon out arrival, there were a few parties waiting to be seated, and we checked in with the very young lady at the hostess stand. She did not acknowledge us, and seemed uncertain as to what to do with us. Another party the same size as ours arrived after us, and they were seated by the hostess and she never returned. A man came to hostess stand, and I made my way up to him to verify that he knew we were there. He too failed to greet us, and mumbled something that I could not understand and promptly disappeared into the dining room. We waited, other customers arrived and became restless that no one was at the hostess stand. My intuition was telling me to leave, but several minutes later the man returned and seated us. Our server was nice, although confused. When describing specials, she said they "may have one or two left" of two of the offerings, she was unsure. The one redeeming part of the evening belonged to the cocktails. They were excellent. When the meals were served, the two in our party who ordered the "staggering chicken" both admitted that the dish was too salty to eat. One person had ordered the pork loin, which was tasty but only lightly warmed, as if it had been sitting too long. My cioppino was very average, as the broth was bland and under-seasoned. By the end of our dining experience, we each had two drinks (either wine or cocktails) three of us ordered sandwiches, one returned the salty chicken for an order of only vegetables, and three of us had entrees. After the restaurant imposed gratuity, our tab totaled $325.00. Very disappointing.
Updated for currency. First of all, don't come here in winter. Just don't. It's off season, they're not on their game, and they'll run out of ingredients. For summer (high season)...3.5 stars. It's okay. Some dishes verge on good occasionally but I've never been blown out of the water by anything here. In Door County, where most restaurants swing between "this is disgusting" and "Oh God, I have food poisoning" depending on the day, okay is pretty damn good, and worth seeking out. But this food is not going to blow your mind--and when you're paying $20-$40/entree, it might not be enough to get you in the door. That said, the service is prompt and friendly, and the porch is fantastic. So if you're fine with spending a bundle on food that is just ok, and soaking in the ambiance, who could fault you for that? Also, they make a mean Tom Collins.

An unassuming spot off the main drag in Ellison bay. Huge fun bar with seasoned tenders making friendly convos with locals. Menu had traditional pub fare, but included more extensive meals like prime rib after 5. Real standouts here are the extensive beer and whiskey menus. Unique IPAs and seasonal taps from dozens of breweries. We stopped in for a late snack of afternoon nachos and beers. Nachos were loaded with fresh toppings, and included a great house made pico. We will return!!
Casual atmosphere. We ate outside on the deck. Lilacs were in bloom. Chicken nachos were great. I had a burger and my husband had the chicken. Both were cooked just right. Juicy and flavorful. I was surprised how great the burger tasted. We would go back again!
We both had the turkey cheese sandwiches with the fries. It was busy but the service was great and the food came out if the kitchen pretty quick! Make sure you eat here at least once!

Many people told me to check out the cinnamon rolls here. I ordered one yesterday at the counter and ate it, surprised it wasn't warmed up. Came back this morning and thought well I'll get another cinnamon roll but I don't know what all the hype is. So I'm getting my coffee when I spot a microwave! Heated up the cinnamon roll was amazing! I'm not giving 5 stars for two reasons. 1. I feel a staff member should have pointed out there was a microwave and 2. It was way too warm in the bakery! The heat was on like full blast but I'm guessing that's to cater the elderly population that frequents the bakery. Their flavor of the day coffees were great. I really liked the Door County Red Velvet Mocha coffee and the DC Cherry Cream blend. Delicious!
Really just a run-down tourist trap. Dingy. Minuscule selection. Pastries are no better then Pillsbury frozen ones. Stay away.
You HAVE to get either a sticky bun or a pecan roll here. They are phenomenal ... sticky, gooey, moist, yummy!! I'm also a fan of the almond pastry. I give it three stars only because it's kind of smelly and grimy inside. The chairs and tabletops are sticky and it smells old inside. It's dark and dingy .... with the exception of the view of the Bay.
