"Driving, driving, and driving some more..." If a bright ray of sunshine shone down 30 minutes south of Ashland, this silver bullet of goodness would beam to all lost foodies in the woods of northern WI. Watch for it. Go to it. Walk up to the Delta Diner and you will be greeted by the hostess even before you enter. She will take your name and you will turn right around for at least 15 minutes to wait. Expect it. Luckily they have taken their popularity and limited trailer size into stride and have built an outdoor cafe next door for your stomach growling pleasure. Go get yourself some espresso or something to soothe the tiger hunger inside. So you slide into your booth and look up to the board and you may see... *Stuffed french toast of the day. *Mega farmers breakfast with thick cut local bacon. *A breakfast sandwich creation with no sparing on the meat and eggs. * An assortment of daily specials, pies, desserts. Peruse the walls and nic-nacs around and you'll notice this place has quite a connection to the locals around. There are Girl Scout Camp badges posted about (camp up the road), a sign all about the cafe local regular (who yes, is always there to say hello) and an old picture or 30. Good times, great oldies, delicious food. The menu

This place was great. Fun staff, exceptional service and food that's the best I've had anywhere. We had the blue plate special a pablano/sausage omlette, Pedro special, Norwegian cakes. All exceptional.

I'm not one to frequent diners in the northern, backwoods of Wisconsin, but my husband & I were staying at Delta Lodge and this place is a stone's throw away from there. Wait staff is VERY friendly and kind and they know their stuff. During our week stay, we ate here a few times and we were never disappointed! Their chocolate shakes are awesome and made fresh with milk and ice cream like back in the day. I had a turkey and bacon melt which was devine. Of course we tried their burgers on burger Mondays: delicious! No doubt one needs to stop here if traveling up to Northern Wisconsin. They can't cater to what you want, but what they are offering up for the day is phenomenal! We leave tomorrow and we'll miss Delta Diner, that's for sure!

Our kids work at a nearby camp and have raved about Delta Diner. So we went with very high expectations. For once, a restaurant lived up to the advanced billing - everything about it was terrific. Too bad we live so far away (Chicago)!

Review 100 - Eclectic and in the middle of NOWHERE. One of the best diners in the USA. I'm from NJ, and have eaten in the finest restaurants in NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, etc, but no finer diner food exists in the world. Infinite attention to detail. Check out the tray of hot sauces that accompanies breakfast. The breakfasts are unbelievable - try the 3.) Eggs, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Toast (their own blend) - Hashbrowns are world class. A must get. Or the Lucky Denny - (another Must Try). Or the Norwegian pancakes. Or the stuffed french toast. Friendly service, in a gorgeous vintage diner. Say hello to Todd. If you must wait, please do so - it is worth it. If you are ever in town - GO.

Driving to Bayfield, Wisconsin in my '48 Ford Por-Street F-1 Pickup truck in September, I made a special point to stop at Delta Diner, that I saw featured on television. At 3 mpg, it was an investment in time and money. And I'm here to let you know, I wasn't at all disappointed. The owners were fun to talk to, the food was even better than I was told it would be before I got there. The area was magnificent to look at. I'd have to say it was the most perfect trip I'd taken in years. It was every bit as pleasant at my time in Washburn, and Bayfield, Wisconsin. The entire experience was top shelf. I plan another trip with another hotrod. Each trip will be with a different hotrod in front of the Diner. My first picture is on a calendar, and it's becoming a very popular calendar for my friends. I give this trip an A+. Thanks for your time, COOTER

This place is amazing. We went on a Monday hoping to get breakfast but found it was burger Monday. Fresh ground chuck and prime steak burgers were AMAZING!!! We had the fried Mac and cheese bites and the pie for desert. Needless to say we enjoyed our experience very much and if you ever find yourself in the area make the trip it is well worth it. We look forward to our next visit up North and for sure to the delta diner.

I am seriously in love! I have wanted to make my way to the Delta Diner for over a year... I had heard the food was great, the location unique, and the staff charming. I had HUGE expectations that were actually exceeded!!! We stopped in on Monday afternoon for their signature burgers. OMG! I had a peppery beef patty with marinated/sauteed mushrooms merged with melted cheese on top of fresh baked buns. I splurged and ordered the onion rings as well. Delicious! Besides the food, I was most impressed with the staff's hospitality. As soon as we entered this Retro and oh-so-cute establishment, we were warmly greeted and asked if it was our first time. Because it was, we got the full rundown on the menu and extras. Every staff member seemed to really love being here... almost as much as I did... I work in hospitality and I have to say, this visit helped refill my customer service "cup" (which was running dry after a busy winter season). One last note... they said there is a 1-2 hour wait in the summertime to get a table. Normally, I would avoid such a busy place in it's prime season. However, I really want to go back in July to get the full experience. I will sit outside, sip a coffee drink from next door, & take in all the natural beauty of the Delta, WI, location.

We ate there on Burger Monday. Great burgers toppings and pie. I recommend the Nina topping. It was so good I bought a jar of their led garlic to take home. We stopped back before leaving for blueberry pie. It was amazing - tiny blueberries, flaky crust, and not too sweet. It was everything pie should be.

Oh God I am in love. I don't even know where to start. We stopped in on a nice February Friday afternoon at 1:30pm hoping to snag a fish fry. They told us that the fish fry dinner was not available till 2pm. They went the extra step to explain why (the hash browns with asiago cheese would not be ready until 2pm). We left and went down the road for a beer and came back to experience what was by far the best fish I have ever tasted. The batter was very dry and spiced nicely. Not greasy at all. In fact I am not really sure that it was ever placed in grease. The asiago cheese hash browns were worth the wait. In fact I am entertaining the idea of driving the 4.5 hours from Minneapolis just to eat here every couple of months. The experience of the place was excellent as well. Once the owner found out that I am a photographer he offered to drive me down to the river to drop in a canoe then he would park his truck at the end of the canoe route and I could drive it back to the diner after the trip. Now I don't know about you, but coming from a big city, I was stunned at the level of trust that this person placed in someone they had just met. While we were in the diner an ex-employee stopped in, whipped out a 12 string guitar and started playing old Zep tunes. Awsome! Probably the best dining experience in years and years!! Great job!

Okay, so here's the deal... I'm a little hesitant to write this review. I'm hesitant to write this review because this place has the absolute BEST breakfast I have ever had in my entire life, and I kind of want to keep that to myself. I know that may sound pretty selfish, but seriously, it's that good. That being said, there are already plenty of people who have figured it out. Diners, Drive-Ins & Dive's doesn't come and check out your place unless it's something special, and something special is exactly what the Delta Diner is! My husband and I have now had the pleasure of stopping at the Delta Diner twice on our way home from the UP to the Twin Cities and it is well worth the extra time it takes to go a little out of our way and stop. Located in the middle of nowhere (I mean seriously, I cannot think of a better way to describe it), this gem is the quintessential diner. Both times we've been, my husband and I have intentionally left the UP super early to get to Delta Diner in time to beat the rush. Sometime between 8:00am and 9:00am on weekends seems to do the trick and we only had to wait a couple minutes the second time we are there. Your meal is started out by pie crust pieces covered in sugar and cinnamon which are so good. Their menu is super unique (not your typical diner breakfast food) and your waitress actually talks you through it. I have had the Pedro's Mex Benny twice. It was so good the first time I had it, I had to get it the second time (and will probably get it all the other times I ever go). This dish is on the list of the five best things I have eaten in my entire life. It's basically a Mexican take on egg's benedict, but it really is so much more than that. It is a Jalapeno Cornbread Cake, topped with two over easy eggs, toast and the most amazingly scrumptious gravy with ground chorizo that I have ever had. Look, it may sound odd and maybe like it's not a normal breakfast food, but take my word for it. IT. IS. INCREDIBLE. My husband has also had one of their specials, biscuits with redeye gravy which he thought was very tasty and a unique take on the dish but after trying mine, he converted over the next time we went. We've also had a slice of their pie (Caramel Apple) and it's just as good as the best homemade pie I've ever had! We got it "to go" and it lasted about 5 minutes into our drive before we had devoured it. All in all, if you take the time to head to Delta Diner, you're in for a treat. We live about 3 hours away and we've seriously debated just driving up there for the day for a meal.

I am a big fan of breakfast and really love pancakes. The Norwegian pancakes at DD are pretty special because of their thinness & the Jalapenos in the cake itself. There is enough food here to fill up a very full stomach. The food is made with love and care. This isn't just a greasy spoon restaurant, they make some creative and healthy dishes. The rest of the breakfast menu on this sunday sounded pretty amazing. They have a few options for vegetarians but not many for gluten free. The service at the DD was pretty amazing. Super nice server who explains the menu on the wall to every table. Fast service despite being very busy, I'm impressed. Everything feels clean and tidy and I was amazed at how nice the restrooms are. This is a small restaurant but they do amazing things with the space.

Great breakfast, had a burrito wrapped in a omelet that was very good(wish it was shredded beef vs ground beef), Norwegian pancakes were great with no toppings--kinda sweet and crunchy! Service was impeccable. Downside is the 4.5hr trip to delta--kinda takes it out of a regular rotation be prepared for a wait but it is worth it--and if the store is open next door the bagel bombs(?) are awsome

The kind of place that tries very hard to serve local food. You want to go to there. Be prepared to wait to be seated, being impatient is unbecomming. The wait staff is talented and knowledgeable enough to work in any top restaurant in any major city, so expect to catch some hell when you ask for ketchup. This is really good

Maybe I'm just a little too critical about what I'm paying for when I eat out....My wife and I had seen the Delta Diner on a Food TV show and thought "hmmmm, that looks pretty good" So we drove about 140 miles one way, to get there. (am I crazy or what...It was a slow day in the northwoods so what the heck) Got there (it was a Saturday) and had a 30 min wait...good sign, right?? Well, finally got seated, waitress came and explained the whole menu, everything sounded so good...wife ordered the Deli sandwich, and I ordered the Perch BLT on recommendation that it was a wonderful choice...both came with fries...wife decides she had to have a milk shake which cost 6.50.....a little steep for some vanilla ice cream and malt powder... Meals came, fries were nice and crispy and still warm, Now for the complaint...My sandwich, was supposed to have perch on it,,,well, it did have two very very small brown things on top of the tomato, bacon and lettuce...these brown things were very thin and had breading on them...they were crunchy but tasteless...fish??? I've never seen perch filets so tiny...why bother calling it a perch BLT if you can't tell what it is...come on, Delta Diner, for $10, this sandwich could have been so much better.. I see other reviews from customers just loving this sandwich...but I wonder, maybe these people also love fish sandwiches from certain fast food places...My wife enjoyed her sandwich but again, nothing spectacular..good bread... Maybe I'm just a cheapskate, but 34.00 for lunch (tax/tip incl) was a little too much for me...maybe they could have given us a gas credit for driving more than 200 miles to get there..would I go back...hmmmm, only maybe if I were driving by to another destination...would I recommend this place??? Well, maybe..but don't get the Perch BLT....

The service and food here is really great. It was everything I had expected and more. I had the French Toast which was excellent and my husband had the perch BLT which was equally as good. Worth the drive out in the country as it made for a beautiful drive. The setting is Northwoods but the diner is retro and a very fun place to eat. The people working there were so friendly and the food came up really fast. We would definitely go here again and hope next time to bring our overnight guests.

We love visiting authentic diners, so as soon as I noticed that the Delta Diner was relatively close to Cable and Ashland, we planned a visit. We rounded a curve in the road and there she was at the base of a hill, in all her glory. The beauty of what is said to be a restored 1940 Silk City Diner did not disappoint. After being greeted at the door we were shown to our choice of seats at the counter. The menu was creative and recited to us by our server. Mr. R ordered the French toast made with cranberry walnut sourdough from a bakery in Ashland. I selected a salted caramel apple Dutch baby (how could I pass THAT up?), and added a side of applewood smoked bacon, also smoked in nearby Ashland. My Dutch baby was custardy and delicious and the thick cut bacon was wonderfully savory, and being fans of diners (especially those who do things right), I'm sure if we were within an hour drive of here we would happily make the drive again.

Great meal on our sisters weekend. Pedro's Mexico Benny...perfectly prepared eggs with a savory jalapeño cornbread that was moist AND crispy, smothered in a delectable chorizo sauce. And great onion rings shared by our group. We considered another hour's drive back the next day, we enjoyed it so much.

Great food for being in the middle of nowhere! I recommend going later in the day (like 2:00pm - 4-00pm) otherwise you will most likely have to wait an hour. I had their soup and sandwich special: grilled cheese with tomato and onion served with roasted red pepper and tomato bisque. Absolutely excellent! My boyfriend loves coffee and this joint is conveniently located next to their coffee shop. You can bring your cup over to the restaurant and they will refill it once you sit down. No extra charge!

Five stars hardly covers how good this place is. I have my father on law to thank for driving us nearly TWO HOURS out of our way heading up to Canada to eat lunch at Delta Diner. I would've driven further now that I've eaten there! First, you have to get over the fact that this diner is a culinary oasis in the middle of frickin nowhere! Located in the northern half of the Chequamegon national forest it is close to nothing. Deal with it cuz the diner rocks. We arrived at nearly 2 in the afternoon and grimaced because the gravel lot was full. Chew on this, 2PM on a Tuesday, middle of nowhere, Forty-five minute wait!!! Great sign! So we wait. While waiting I perused the hours of operation. They close at 4pm every day how great is that! We were seated after only a 1/2 hour and the ambiance and atmosphere are pleasant and welcoming. 1950s diner ambiance through and through! Our waitress was Jen and she was phenomenal. Explained the whole menu and joked around very comfortably. They were out of a few things seeing as it was a bit later in the day, understandably. She did give is the heads up that they only had 2 omelets, and one piece of pie left, awesome because we ordered them both!!! I ordered the Pedro Mex Benny A++++ I am always blown away when I get a really far out rendition of a breakfast dish that works perfectly!! I would compare this Benedict creation to Heaven on Seven's amazing brunch creations. The egg was served on to of a piece of unreal cornmeal bread! Apple wood smoked bacon A+. ( of course ) Blue plate omelette. My buddy got this and I don't really remember the exact heavenly creation but there was brusselsprouts and asiago involved. A+++ PBLT - not to be missed take on the classic BLT. Lightly fried fresh local lake perch and some crazy good chipotle mayo took this classic sandwich to a whole other level. A+ Chocolate malt A+. Crazy good and then they set down the tin with another 2/3 of a shake in it!!!! Well played Delta! If you haven't been convinced to go out of your way to get to Delta Diner then you obviously cannot be saved!!! Thank you Todd & the staff for a 1st rate experience! I really hope I see you all again soon!

It took 30+ minutes to get a table but it was worth the wait. This out-of-the-way diner is spotlessly clean, has a terrific menu and a wonderful staff. If you happen to find yourself nearby in northern Wisconsin, make it a point to visit.

I absolutely love this place. A diner tucked in the North woods. They have a kick arse menu that has your tongue wagging for more. The breakfast is to die for. The stuffed french toast with mascarpone cheese was so unexpected. On Monday it is Burger Mondays where the ground beef is always frashly mixed that day and the burgers are crazy good. This is as good as it gets!

Read all the awesome reviews for this place and was pretty hyped up. The food was good as was the service. We do not regret making the extra 1 hour that was added to our travel to check this place out but will not be doing it again. It was a good one time experience and fun reading the reviews on the way there. We rate the food 4 stars, not sure how we would rate it taking the extra travel into consideration.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. The red beans and rice are my favorite, but there are so many delicious choices! In a beautiful north woods location, it's a great destination. Love the staff as much as the food!

Food is great, service/owner terrible. We think the food is fantastic BUT when we were treated rudely by the so called hostess, we contacted the owner who basically blamed us. He removed our review from his facebook page and could have cared less about his customer's experience. In fact, he asked the hostess what happened, she lied and he then told us it was our fault. How rude behavior on the part of the hostess is ever the customers fault is beyond comprehension. The hostess should have been fired. As such, we are posting here as this is not the kind of service we expect nor can anyone assume will be a winning formula in northwest Wisconsin where there are more deer than people. It was an extremely disappointing experience. Thankfully, we've never experienced such poor treatment before nor since. As such Delta Diner is in a class of its own on that issue. As a side note for those who will still visit, the lack of a written menu is annoying. Who wants to listen to the menu being read at 100 miles an hour 15 times while you are eating? Not me.

A bit of a drive, but what a great find! The outside is the cutest ever!!! A real old fashioned diner type building. As soon as we drove up, I was glad we made the drive. When we stepped inside, I was a little bit scared of the menu selections, because it looked like a greasy spoon. The waitress came over and started reciting the menu selections and I quickly calmed down. The selections made you think that you were in downtown Chicago! Every item on the menu was well thought out, included interesting ingredients and sounded incredibly delicious!!! The entire staff got involved in our service and were super nice. We sat at the counter since there was a line to get in, but even that turned out well, due to the pleasant couple sitting next to us. The prices are a bit higher than other restaurants near by, but there is a reason for it. EVERYTHING IS EXCELLENT!!!! Get in your car now and run right over to the Delta Diner!!!!!!

Wow!!! Really don't know what to say about this place! The food is off the chain and not what you would expect from a small town "diner". It is the cutest little place, the people who work here are awesome. So friendly and helpful. The menu is up on the board and they explain everything to you. Not your typical small town restaurant. Some of the items we had (you must get the pancakes, they are not traditional, different but awesome) you would find on a menu in the finest restaurants in the Gold Coast. Everything we had was delicious, even the eggs, lol!! Pancakes (plain and with hot peppers), Stuffed French Toast, Sausage Plate (the sausage is ridiculous), a Mexican style plate and a few other items. You won't be disappointed. Loved it and hope to return again someday!
