I couldn't give a more glowing review of HispaniA. Thanks to Yelp (and by that I mean the fantastic YelpERS who populate Yelp!!!!) I located this place as a good go between meet up spot with a friend. I made a rez but opted for the bar since it was so darn comfy and cool there. Our bartender, who's name I didn't get in the midst of all the conversation, did an excellent job and was extremely friendly and hospitable. My chicken tostadas meal was excellent. Among the best I've had, personally. Keep in mind folks, this isn't Americanized. You aren't going to get super-sized portions slathered with lard coated refried pinto beans (not that anything wrong with that - this just isn't it). And that's why I appreciate it. The food is higher end Mexican (some fusion) and the quality of ingredients - lets just say you get what you pay for. Please check out their website for more details on the quality ingredients. We got the great pleasure of talking for some time with Juan, the owner. With great enthusiasm he discussed with me mezcal, tequila, how they were made, the similarities and differences, etc. He was such a pleasure! Please ask the staff questions! Don't be afraid to try a new tequila or mezcal sample! Some things are different, at first, buts it's amazing how a palate can develop :) Great time!

There's nothing authentic about this place, the food isn't made from scratch you can purchase the same ingredients from the store. They are understaffed, we wait about 1 hour to get our food, the waiters and very friendly though

Fresh, unique, and delicious! Everything we ordered was amazing. If you come, order the tres leche cake! You will not regret it!

we went on a Monday that got (what I assume was) uncharacteristically busy. We ordered the tableside guacamole and it was great. Our service was great despite how busy it was. My wife and I both had different soups that were delicious and I had the Asada Norteno which was wonderful and full of flavor. I wish I had room for desert that night because I saw another couple sharing one and it looked amazing. We'll be back for sure. It was well worth the drive to the middle of nowhere (no offense, lake country dwellers)

Great ambience and you are immediately greeted by very friendly staff. This is not your average Mexican Restaurant but truly a Latin Fusion masterpiece.the margaritas are outstanding and even the beer was served in a glass that seemed well thought out. The cold chorizo and queso appetizer was outstanding. Asparagus soup over scallops??? Are you kidding me??? Amazing. Carnitas stew was incredible as were the tamales. Finally, the owner was working as briskly as the staff and stopped by to ask how our meal was. His wife is the chef!! Very nice. We will be back.

Very good food. The table side guac was delish. We tried the crab cakes as requested by Yelp nation and they were as good as advertised. The squash soup is a must!

Met some family at HispaniA - they drove in from Milwaukee and I drove in from Madison. Excellent food and a nice ambience. Best table made guacamole I can recall having in WI. I had the enmoladas entree - the mole is rich and slightly sweet. We plan a return trip soon.

Had a wonderful dinner with live Spanish guitar performer who is excellent on Saturday night. Ceviche is very refreshing with shrimp, jicama, tomato, avocados and come with fresh baked corn chips. Lentil soup with chorizo is broth based and delicious as well. Meat tamales is very good with tomatillo, fresh salsa & mole sauce by the side but small portion with very little filling for the price they charged. Baked Cod with pesto with side of grilled zucchini with corn relish and rice is the best! Cod cooked perfectly with simple seasoning to compliment the fish but yet let the fish shine for itself. Service yet is much needed to be improve. Will definitely comes back to try more dishes. Good to see a real Mexican restaurant in Lake country for sure.

Excellent food, drinks and service. Ingredients extremely fresh, well prepared and flavorful. Servers were friendly, prompt and knowledgeable of the menu.

AMAZING table side Guac! Maybe the best I've ever had! Margaritas were great too! Excellent staff. Highly recommend it!

The food was overpriced, my wife and I were so unsatisfied with everything. The only reason it got 2 stars is because of the atmosphere, but I'm really all about the food. The Flautas didn't taste any better than fried gas station taquitos with queso fresco, sour cream and a chipotle sauce. We were really hoping to like it :(

Located in an upscale strip mall, the restaurant expands into a much larger space than the facade might suggest. Our visit to HispaniA turned out to be delightful. The menu is an interesting fusion of Hispanic, South American and European themed entrees. We started with the Empanadas which were very tasty. My entree for the Chilean Sea Bass was OK, I'd probably try something else on the menu next time. The desserts however is where this place excels! They had several items on the delectable tray and it was honestly hard to choose. They all looked so good. Finally settled on their inspired version of Tres Leches Cake which was so good! If you're in Delafield,WI give this place a try. The service is great! My husband had a more traditional Mexican dish and this is likely the direction I would take on a subsequent visit.

Excellent food. Guacamole was literally made on a little cart table side. Margaritas were excellent with a wide selection of tequilas. Ramone did a fine job of taking care of us and was extremely personable. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant, nor is it meant to be. We will certainly be going back!

Went there with my family. The food was incredibly good. This is not a Mexican restaurant, it's rather a week thought combination of all the Latin American cuisine. The waiter was very patient and explained every plate to us. The experience was very good and we will return soon.

Juan & Natalia welcome you to their restaurant as if it was their own home. Fabulous and inventive selections (although I'm stuck on the crab cakes and house salad). Chili Rellenos like none we've ever had before. Hibiscus margarita is a must. They remember our names and favorites. This has become our go to spot. Nicely done Juan, Natalia and staff!

I would probably give this place 3.5 stars, but I'm rootin' for the kids so I'll go ahead and round up. My friend and I met a couple we are friends with who live out in the area. For starters, the ambiance is very nice - quiet, peaceful, tasteful and clean. The owner has acquired quite a lot of artwork and is proud to talk about it. We were there on a Saturday night, and there was a wonderful acoustic guitarist there to entertain us. Our waiter, Luis, was a little on the shy side but cute as a bug in a rug. The menu really is higher end Mexican, so don't come looking for a wet burrito or a combo plate. The owners have put a mission statement in the menu and they really are trying to do something different. For 7:00 on a Saturday night, though, the place only had about four tables occupied. I'm worried they might not make it, but I surely hope they do.

The service was fabulous and the food was excellent. You can tell the chef takes pride in his creations. Also they make a point to use local food and also create healthy options. I had the steak tacos which were great! I highly recommend Hispania. You can tell the owners and chef really take pride in their work and offer a high quality meal. Try a margarita- made with fresh lime juice and very good!

God this place is so good. Table side guac! Amazing soups and they have all the right sides with your tacos, soups, etc. Margaritas are amazing! CANNOT GO WRONG! Oh the GUAC is sooooooo good!!!!!!

Met the owner - wonderful owner, stylish ambiance, excellent quality, freshness, presentation and extra scrumptious. Not just Mexican, Latin American. Wow, was the stone bowl guacamole good. Best Latin food between Milwaukee and Madison! Try it - you won't regret it.

The service was good a little slow but good. The food wasn't good It didn't have much flavor. I would not go here, the table side G was good not great.

Food was great, drinks were great, service was ok. Spent $110 on 2 entrees, 4 margaritas and tip, and left still a bit hungry. Will try it again for lunch without drinks to make it more affordable.

I have eaten here three times and it is becoming one of my favorite restaurants. The service is excellent. The complementary appetizer is a nice little touch. The menu is diverse from traditional Mexican, (which is upscale and not your average enchiladas and beans) to a fusion menu which blends touches from European cultures to make wonderful meals. There are choices for the adventurous to "I just want a steak". Prices are reasonable and the atmosohe t e very nice for conversation with friends

Fun idea, was very excited for it to open. $9.50 for chips and salsa? No thanks, I'd rather go to one of the other many mexican restaurants in lake country. When the dishes range between 16 and 35 dollars each, you think you could get the chips and salsa for free. Unfortunately this place won't be around long with those prices...

We enjoyed dinner with a group of six in Sept 2013. The house margaritas were the best in town. To my knowledge there is no where else in Waukesha county to get a real margarita (ie not made from a mix). After a complimentary starter of a small cornmeal dumpling we sampled the crab cakes, tableside guacamole and queso fundido which was updated with mushrooms in the cheese and served with flour tortilla triangles. The toastado chips for the guacamole were fine and did not overpower the guacamole as salty corn chips might. All appetizers were quite good. Some entrees had more European flair than typical Mexican fare with at least four fish and two vegetarian options. There were also classics such as chicken mole and chile relleno. I had the duck special which was tender although not overly flavorful. Others at the table were pleased with beef, pork and fish dishes. Entree portions were small (think California sized not Wisconsin) which left room for the very appealing dessert options. The flan was perfectly executed. As others have noted, the prices were higher than you would find at other Mexican restaurants but not at other high-end restaurants in the area which is the more appropriate comparison. The service was outstanding and the decor combined contemporary art with well-executed traditional Mexican art. We will go back, in particular to sample the tamales which had updated fillings (black bean, chard, spinach) and probably the chocolate tamale for dessert.

Stopped for lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Sat outside and had the tortas and Pico. Not what Americans are used to getting but very authentic to northern Mexico. Ask for some limes and salt and you will enjoy. Quesadillas were very good. Served with an assortment of condiments that were all very fresh and tasty. My waiter offered me some spicier salsa which I tried and it to was very good. I looked at the dinner menu and was a bit taken back by the prices. If the quality is as good as the lunch it may be worth the price, but it will need to be really good. They may need to lower the prices a bit too make sure that people want to come back frequently.

Had two great entrees and two glasses of wine for $57 before tip. So while it's a little pricier than what you'd think of Mexican food it's NOT the Mexican you get at a cheap restaurant. Entrees were special.......in taste, contend and presentation. The white wine could have been colder. Service was excellent although low key. They need to find a way to bring crowds in during the week......maybe a happy hour? Lounge is very nice and much more upscale than you normally find around here. Well done!

I went to HispaniA last night for the first time, I choose this place because of the reviews on Yelp. I would first say the food was good, but if you take into consideration the price it is very sub par and very small portions. The waitress dropped off the house signature gorditas and left us staring at them wondering what we are to do. We were never given silverware so we were not sure if it was a finger food or not. We waited and waited and finally had to flag down a different waitress to get silverware and the drinks we ordered from the original waitress. I asked the original waitress (Christina) if they had Horchata and she told me yes. So I ordered it with my meal, when my meal was finally delivered I got two entrees (she didn't know what horchata was and thought I was ordering two entrees) and no drink. I finally was informed they do not have horchata, so I drank water that was very rarely filled. The service was horrible, food OK, price outrageous for what you get. 2 entrees, 2 house margaritas and 1/2 order of guac $75 with tip, and no I did not tip well because the service was so poor.

This is our new favorite restaurant in Delafield. The food is fantastic - my kids even tried some things they'd never had. We came for brunch - huevos rancheros, fresh breads, home-made jams and the best coffee I've ever had. The owners are really friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I highly recommend for a Sunday brunch. We are coming back tomorrow!

We got the table side guacamole which was delicious. Drinks were great as well- we had the mojito and the hibiscus margarita. This is definitely the best marg that I have had- made fresh... not from a mix. For my main course, I had the Mexican casserole sampler. My fiancé had the mole chicken. Both dishes were really flavorful & unique. I was pleased to see that on the menu they do have some classic offerings (chiles rellenos, etc.) in addition to the fusion dishes. The star here though is dessert. We had the tres leches cake and the flan. So delicious. I do have to mention that we had a cooking error with one of our dishes, which is the only reason I did not give this review 5 stars. I really appreciated the way the staff handled the mistake though- they were extremely professional about it & were super speedy with getting us a replacement dish. We had really exceptional service during our visit. Food is on the pricey side- don't expect to come here & pay the same prices that you would at a typical Mexican restaurant. I felt it was worth the extra $ though. We'll definitely be coming back.

For a table of 7, this was quite an expensive night of drinks and dinner. Don't get me wrong, the food and drinks were great but not at those prices in Delafield. We will be back to give it another try.

Four of us had dinner here last night and truly enjoyed it. I picked it out after sampling at the Wisconsin Wine & Dine event, and I'm glad I did. It's a little bit of a drive from Milwaukee but, again, I'm glad to have gone. We started off with margaritas, which were perfectly made. The table-side guacamole was good, and the server accommodated our varying tolerance of spiciness by leaving a small dish of jalapeno for those who wanted more heat. For entrees, we had the duck, pork carnitas, chile relleno, and chicken mole. The pork was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth. The chicken was well-prepared (not dry) and the mole was tasty with just the right amount of heat. I didn't try the chile relleno or the duck myself, but the others said they were delicious. Portions were not large, which I appreciated. We finished off with desserts all around, having the tres leches, flan, and a lime tart. Others have mentioned the prices, which were high but expected for the level of the food and service we received. This is not a casual chips-n-salsa and margarita joint, and those looking for that type of experience will be disappointed. But foodies looking for excellent cuisine should be quite happy with the food and the service.

Food was great! My family (2 adult and 2 kids) had a great experience at this place. I am from Argentina and I know when empanadas are good, and this place makes them to perfection. The service was fast and good and everybody worked hard to make you feel welcome. I think this place is a wonderful addition to the area and local people will have the chance to eat Mexican food with glamour. make sure you also try their crab cakes (tortilla de cangrejo) and the tamales. Good job and thank you for a meal well done! P.s. price is never an issue when you eat the right way. P.s.2 Margaritas are awesome too!

Came for lunch yesterday with a good friend who recommend it. The Fusion of flavors of Real Mexican Food was delicious. Very nice desserts and the coffee...one of the Best I've had; grown in Mexico by the Owners father. You know I had to take a pound home! Service was top notch, friendly and warm. Atmosphere & decor was upscale, Very Nice. You have to pay a little more than many of the Regular Mexican restaurant's but you get what you pay for in flavor. I will be back!

What a gem! We stumbled upon this new restaurant and art gallery during their pre-opening event. The proprietors are the kindest restauranteurs you will ever want to meet. We were treated to some light appetizers and mixed drinks. The food and drinks satisfied even the most discriminating taste! On top of having spectacular food, amazing drinks and a warm and inviting atmosphere, the space is full of original artwork - including paintings and handcrafted items direct from Mexico. We are looking forward to our next visit to Delafield and will certainly have at least a couple of meals at HispaniA!

Not sure about the other review on this new restaurant in Delafield. With the professional photos and narrative, sounds more like an infomercial than a true review. In any event, my wife and I and our 4 year-old daughter went to HispaniA last week for dinner. We were seated right away and ordered the house margaritas. Very well mixed and done, except as the night progressed, the sound of the lime juicer grinding away behind the bar was a bit distracting. We also weren't quite sure about the bar/lounge area decor which seemed more nightclub than restaurant. Looked cool, but just very much out of place. Since they don't publish a menu online, here is an overview on the night we visited. There were 7 appetizers, 2 soups, 2 salads, and 5 entrees, plus one special. We tried the housemade small tortillas with "fresh" pico de gallo. What arrived were five 3" round chips with a small dish of pico...for $9. The chips were fine, although a bit overdone and the pico wasn't overly distinctive or fresh in any way. And at $9, very much overpriced. My wife eats only fish or vegetarian dishes, so she attempted to order entree #6, the salmon, which they were out of (and we were the first diners in for dinner service). She had to settle for some mushroom and cheese taquitos and a watercress/jicama salad. Not exactly filling, but the only thing other than tilapia (a farm-raised junk fish) on the limited menu. I had the chicken dish which place a grilled chicken breast over what seemed like a creamy risotto with olive slices and tomatoes. The chorizo sauce mentioned on the menu was nowhere to be found. The chicken was a bit dry as well and the flavors didn't mesh overly well. At $20 was a bit on the high side for what was received. We did dessert of the tres leches cake which was very unusual as the cake itself was dry and had a meringue topping on it. Not overly great. And there weren't any smaller entrees for kids such as smaller version of entrees or an appetizer that could be used as an entree for kids. Service was fine, although almost overly attentive to the point of intrusive. We loved that they checked in on us often, but didn't like that when we needed dessert forks, we ended up grabbing them ourselves as our server forgot about our request. The same for the check at the end of the meal...it took awhile. I applause the owners for putting a more upscale spin on Mexican and Latin cuisine, but hoped for a bit of a larger selection as well as some truly memorable dishes. As the menu changes, we may be back to check out the latest...

Fabulous!! The Pato (duck) was amazing. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Skillet cheese & chorizo, along with the empanadas.

We came from California, and we shared our anniversary celebration at this fabulous restaurant. The owner/chefs created gorgeous plates that tasted as yummy as the presentations. We went with the recommended choices of chili rellano and the sea bass, with guacamole prepared at table. Yummy desserts - tres leche and flan. Highly recommended!

Food was fabulous. Best sea bass I have had. Flavors were amazing. Margaritas were a bit limey but good. Would go back again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
