Ah. This is a tough rate. So much good. A little bad. And a big ugly. I have been by this place numerous times over the years. I even stopped for a drink with friends many years ago, however, never had the pleasure of grabbing some grub. Today, my two young daughters and I stopped to grab a bite. It was 2:20 pm. Aside from a couple diners and a small group at the bar it was empty. THE GOOD The place has a magnificent view of the Mississippi River and a very over-the-top rustic atmosphere, but in a good way. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door by the bartender who informed us to sit anywhere we like. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and ordered drinks which arrived promptly. The menu is filled with specialty pizzas and specialty burgers and everything in between. Here is where I will jump ahead. When we received our food it was very good. First we received the mozzarella sticks. These ARE HOMEMADE. Not the frozen garbage you get everywhere else. Hands down the best I have ever had. . . ever. They were freakishly huge and came with a homemade marinara which was pretty good. When my oldest daughter received her fettuccine alfredo we were flabbergasted! It was a ridiculously huge portion served with homemade alfredo and garlic bread. The sauce, again, pretty good. The garlic bread was awesome. She opted for a side of coleslaw with her meal which was pretty basic. My youngest daughter and I had ordered a medium pizza with pepperoni, green olives, and mushrooms. When the pizza came I thought they had mistakenly made us a large. It was one of the largest pizzas I'd ever seen. And once again, the sauce was pretty good. Overall, a pretty tasty pizza. THE BAD Over the course of our stay we were waited on by three different people. One took our order, gave us drinks, brought some of our food, refilled some of our drinks, and finally received payment. One refilled some of our drinks and brought some of the food. And yet another brought food and the bill. Another bad thing, some may consider this good, our pizza looked like they got rid of all the green olives and mushrooms they had. Seriously, I have never bought a jar of olives big enough to amount what was on this pizza. Sometimes, less is more. THE UGLY After promptly receiving menus and drinks we were asked if we'd like a minute to look through the menu. To which I politely responded, "yes, please" . It took a good 20 minutes before our order was taken. I must remind you, there were not many people here at this time. Once we ordered, our mozzarella sticks came in what I'd say a "normal" amount of time. They were followed by the fettuccine, again at what I'd say a "normal" amount of time. Then we waited. . . . . . . About 20 minutes later my daughter received her coleslaw. She was already full from her fettuccine. So while waiting an additional 35 minutes for our pizza my youngest and I shared the coleslaw. We walked in at about 2:20 pm and walked out at about 4:10 pm Considering it was pretty empty, there were only three of us, and they appeared to be more than adequately staffed I was very disappointed with the service. Very disappointed. Honestly, this place deserves at least four if not five stars. But nearly 2 hrs for three people when it's dead? C'mon man!
I was very excited to try this place. Diane, her daughter and friends all rave about the pizza here. On the night we went there were several problems that account for a low rating. First, our order of Spinach/Artichoke Dip had separated and was one big ball of melted cheese, spinach and artichokes swimming in oil. The second problem had to do with our pizzas. As I excitedly bit into The Road House Special (Cheese, Homemade Sausage, Mushroom, Onion) I thought it was really bland, like they just used hamburger instead of homemade sausage like I was told. I initially figured I was just being a foodie snob, until the regulars I was with said the same thing. I actually liked the Shrimp Pizza better than they did. On the plus side, The Mozzarella Sticks were right up with the best I've ever had. Service was ok and they are wheelchair accessible.
Great pizza. Very friendly staff. Excellent service. I have been there many times and never disappointed.

This is the classic river bar. One half is the bar, decorated with various animals probably shot by the owner. The other side is the breakfast / restaurant room. Not bad, not great, but consistent food, and friendly staff! Eggs are fried correctly, biscuits and gravy is ok. Coffee could be way stronger. Rita is great! The burgers are great, almost a pound of meat, for only $4 ! The staff is great, one afternoon we came in, were in a rush, and asked the bartender what a quick order to eat would be. The cook was sitting at the bar as well, and so she gave us a couple of choices. That food was ready in no-time. In and out within 20 minutes!
