First time poster. You will never get a bad review from me. If I have an issue, I always take it up with management rather than ruin a reputation so I just won't write anything if it's a bad experience. This place deserves the best I have to offer. North woods supper clubs are fine but if you are up here and want a change of pace, this is an excellent alternative. Service was great. Had Scott taking care of us and he did a superb job. The cocktails were generous and Scott knew his stuff all the way around. He shared that what we were thinking of ordering were top sellers and I can see why. The potato soup was broth based with cream giving it a nice light balance with plenty of potato and green onion. We both ordered salad with lemon vinaigrette that was enough to bring us back. My wife's tenderloin tips and gnocchi were everything you would expect. Meat was tender, gnocchi was delicate yet al dente. Rich sauce with bits of tomato was just right. My chicken saltimbocca was incredible (I never order chicken but love saltimbocca). The prosciutto, cheese and spinach along with the velvety masala sauce was a perfect compliment to the chicken breast. We didn't have room for desert but it all was home made and sounded terrific.

I don't know WHAT the other reviewers liked about this place. It smells. It's expensive. The service is nonexistent as far as I can tell. We were there for at least a half hour before anyone even acknowledged us. When someone finally spoke to us, all they said was 20 minute wait. It was a Tuesday night in the off-season! Our table was full of half-eaten food from the previous party the whole time. No one bused the table. Even though the bar was right by our table, nobody ever acknowledged us, offered us drinks, or anything. We weren't into spending a hard-earned $100 for two meals at a place where we felt invisible. Instead, we blew the place off & went down Hwy 45 South to Green Hills Log Cabin Bar where the food was great, service was excellent & everyone made us feel at home. Don't waste your money or time on Lanny's. They think waay too much of themselves.

Mediocre at best. Walleye had bones in it. Seafood pasta was tasteless. Stuffed walleye was tasteless. Would not visit again.

The beef carpaccio is always my favorite. I would go out of my way just for this alone. They like to keep you waiting in the bar, but the food is always fabulous.

My parents told us that they went here last fall and they really enjoyed their meal and we try it. So, when my husband and I were up in the area in May, we thought we'd give it a shot. We were a little nervous as the parking lot was not full, it was the off season- still in early May. We walked in sat down and the service was friendly, at decent pace, they were not rushing us or too slow and the food was fabulous! My husband had a chicken special that I am kicking myself for not getting, but the Weiner Schnitzel that I ate was outstanding!! The spaetzle was really good, as it sometimes can be dry at other restaurants, but Lanny's was perfect! Portions were healthy and while we thought the prices were a touch high- not too bad- when we actually received the relish tray, soup and salad the bread, the portions- it was actually not bad at all. I recommend and according to my parents, it's much more crowded in the summer and on the weekend. Bravo Lanny's and I am looking forward to going back in a few weeks!!

We have been driving by this place for several years in route to our land in Watersmeet. After deciding we wanted a nice dinner the 4 of us ( 2 middle aged couples) decided to give it a try after a day of driving to see the fall colors. We stopped in on 10/10/2014 right as they opened. We checked out the small thrift antique shop right off the parking area and then went inside. The inside sure is different than what you expect from seeing the front. It looks like a small house but is much bigger inside and they even have a deck area out back for nice weather. When you walk in there is a large bar area and then you walk up a stair to the dining room area. We were seated at the window overlooking a small fountain pond and the back yard. We were greeted with a basket of crackers, a scoop of butter and another scoop of like a cinnamon raisin type spread along with 4 crostini's coated with an olive tapenade with what I think was a light spread of cream cheese underneath. Jason was our server and took our drink order. We did not order appetizers but noticed the table next to us had the escargot. The entrees come with soup and salad and choice of potato. The ladies had the New England Clam chowder which was very good. The boys passed as they do not like fish. Next came the salads with warm bread loaf and an orange butter. Very good. The salad had a nice blend of greens and the garlic dressing was excellent. I ordered the two lamb chops with baked potato which were very thick and cooked perfectly medium rare. Hubby had the Filet cooked medium rare stuffed with garlic and it was incredible. Our friends had the rib eye and it was equally as good as the filet. Tender and well marbled. The other entrée was the seafood pasta that hada wonderful creamy sauce and the shrimp/ scallops were perfectly cooked- not overdone. She loved it. The entrees also came with brussel sprouts. Excellently cooked as not to be mushy or undercooked. I don't eat then but I did that night and if they always tasted that good I would be a convert. We had no room left for dessert after cleaning out plates. The food was outstanding. Service was prompt but not overbearing. We highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly return again.

Outstanding all around. Stopped by on the way to the UP and the driver stops by every week on his way. Blacked pork with an outstanding dark rum sauce had everyone stealing bites. That sauce with bread was our desert. There was cheese and crackers out for everyone to snack on. The meal came with a couple of small appetizers, soup, salad, and potato. The sweet potato soup surprised us all including one member that doesn't like sweet potatoes. I highly recommend it. Others had bacon wrapped scallops and the ribeye, which looked and tasted great. We ate at the bar and the drinks we always full. It's on the pricey side but worth it for the quality and amount.

My husband and I stopped in to eat at Lanny's while we were on vacation. When we arrived (on a Saturday night), the parking lot was fairly full but there were still plenty of spaces left. When we walked in we had to wait a while for the hostess to make an appearance and she told us it would be a short wait for a table, so we waited at the bar. After about 15 minutes the hostess returned and seated us at a table. She told us that they were busy, so our waitress would be a few minutes. A "few" minutes actually meant 30 minutes before the waitress made her first appearance. When she did, she just laughed and said "she did tell me I had a table, but then I just forgot all about you! ha ha!" I ordered the chicken stuffed with wild rice and brie and my husband had the rouladen. We both thought the food was good, although mine was extremely rich- probably something that would be delicious in the winter but a little heavy for summer. The portions were fairly large and dinner comes with several sides (salad, potato), so we were totally stuffed by the time we were done. The prices were a little on the high side, but not outrageous. The only major negative was not so much the fault of the restaurant but that of two very loud, obnoxious middle-aged and well-to-do couples from Illinois (they were loudly talking about where they were from) who apparently had a few too many cocktails and did not think they should have to wait in the bar area. Instead, they were wandering into the dining room, messing with things on the hostess stand, and loudly complaining about the wait. This was definitely a disruption to our meal and it made us very eager to leave at the end. I don't know that the restaurant staff could have done anything other than maybe ask these people to please return to the bar area, but their behavior did leave us feeling more negatively about the place.

Best restaurant within 70 miles. I've eaten half the menu and never had a bad dish. The staff is great and works to please. Prices may be a bit higher than other local establishments but the products are far above, totally worth it. My favs = Brie stuffed chicken, Weiner schnitzel, red cabbage and sweet potato bisque; not to mention the best beef Carpaccio I've ever had.

A nice departure from the typical "supper club" of the North Woods. That being said you still get a basket of crackers w/ cheese & cranberry or tomato juice with your meal. We chose to sit at the bar- as the dining room seemed a bit more proper & quiet than I was feeling. I'm glad we did as Jeff was taking a shift at the bar instead of the kitchen and was extremely helpful. We still had a waiter who was taking our order but he was a bit stuffy & trying too hard, Jeff was laid back and kept our drinks filled. We got the spanikopita for an appetizer, it was excellent.I ordered the Ahi Tuna which was pretty good, not the best I've had but prepared nicely with fried spinach & grilled veggies. My BF got something Jeff recommended which was good but not really what the BF was into. So overall the food was OK, but mostly because we went with what was recommended not what we actually wanted. So we will have to make another trip and try again :)

So, my mom moved from Napa Valley to Conover, Wisconsin. Don't ask me any questions about that part. Anyway, she is quite the foodie and definitely loves going out to dinner. Thank god Lanny's Fireside is close by. This is the only place she will go, and in fact, we are celebrating her 80th birthday there tonight. Max, the bartender, will keep you laughing with his dry wit, and Lanny, the owner/chef, will make sure you are well taken care of. The food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Not your typical northwoods restaurant! Everything else in the northwoods just seems to get lost in a sea of sameness. Lanny's excels where others seem to fail. Lanny's gives you the northwoods ambiance at first glance but be prepared to be blown away by the food and drink they offer. As a resident of Chicagoland I have so many top notch dining and drinking choices to choose from. When traveling to the northwoods its nice to be able to have a choice that gives you the northwoods hospitality but not the typical fare. Upon entering you will receive a warm greeting from Max the Mixoligist, he can truely make any cocktail you request. You will definately want to enjoy an after dinner drink with him as he will make you feel comfortable enough to not want to go anywhere else for a nightcap. Once you open the menu you will see what seperates them from everyone else. Fresh hand cut steaks, fresh roast duck, and some magnificent wines to pair with your meal. If you really want to splurge, get the Valpolicella Amarone. I thought I could only get this in Chicago, really who would have ever thought you could get a 90+ score wine with DOCG status in the northwoods, I paired it with a 20oz Ribeye. I know the menu only lists a 16oz but thats another thing about being hand cut, they will cut you any size steak. I unfortunately did not have room for desert but will try the Profiteroles as suggested by the chef when he was making his rounds through the dining room ensuring everyone was extremely satisfied. I usually start with positives and end with the negatives but in this case I could not thnk of one. Even the service was top notch. They are very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list.

Lanny catered my wedding of 70 people at Wild Eagle Resort. It was AMAZING! To impress a bunch of Chicago foodies is no small task. After the tasting, we made our choices and we felt no worries at all about food. We picked up BBQ chicken, pineapple slaw and American potato salad from him for a lakeside cookout Friday night. The chicken was perfectly cooked and sauce was excellent. Sides had a creative twist, but not too progressive for the masses. For the reception, we had apps passed around - spiedini, bruchetta bar, caprese cups and sesame-crusted duck. Servers were very professional and friendly. We decided to go with a buffet dinner with parmesan-crusted shrimp, Texas-style prime rib, and Chicken piedmont. The sides were lyonnaise potatoes, wild rice pilaf, and asparagus. THANK YOU to Lanny and his crew. You put our minds at ease and fed us (gourmet!) for days! What a relief to find you up in the North Woods... :)
