great pizza...the staff is grouchy. Salad dressings are from a bottle, old lettuce...but I just go for the pizza.

Great pizza! The homemade potato chip appetizer is also very good. The inside is a little small and all orders are placed and picked up at the bar (no waitstaff) but it's setup in a good way. There is an open section on the end of the bar to order and pickup drinks/food... No problem. Friendly staff, comfortable booths, great food... We will be back!

A great little place to take the whole family. All the staff really take pride in making sure you have a good experience in their establishment. One more thing... just might be the best pizza I've ever had. The bacon cheeseburger pizza is second to none.

The menu is amazing here. So many pizza toppings, appetizers, pasta dishes and much more! My kids loved the little 6" deep dish pizza. It may sound small but it's enough to fill up a kid!! The pasta was absolutely delicious and so was the Ceasar salad. We found the bartender to be very friendly. It's a small clean place and a bit dark. The lighting is a little weird, but what matters is how good the food is. Not to mention the great prices. Enjoyed it a lot and will be back.

Family owned, family run, reasonably priced, friendly and cozy atmosphere. Great taste!!! Will be back.

We pick up pizza from Tomaso's at least once a week because, quite simply, it's the best pizza on the planet! Zesty, tomatoey sauce; heavenly sausage. The thin crust is crispy and flakey; the deep dish doey & flakey. If you like non traditional pizza, their buffalo chicken is amazing!!

Growing up in Mequon, we would often drive to Cedarburg just to go to Tomaso's. This was many moons ago and spending last weekend in Cedarburg, I worried if it was as good as I remembered. Well, worry no more as Tomaso's continues to deliver. Quintessential "Milwaukee Style" thin crust pizza with classic toppings. Simple. Solid. Super.

Best pizza in town! A lot of people talk poorly of the bartender Jim (ponytail guy), but if you ever want to hear such a complete history of the town through someone who has lived here his entire life, Jim is the guy!

Tight squeeze, especially on a Friday night at Cedarburg's Wine and Harvest Festival. Six of us crammed in a booth ordered one large vegetarian and one large cheese and sausage. The report: Sauce was average. Oddly, the sauce was spooned over the cheese on the cheese and sausage. (Mixed reviews on this.) Sausage seemed like little canned meatballs, hardly fresh sausage. However, the thin crispy crust is the hype here. Best thin crust in the Milwaukee area, hands down. So if thin is your thing, make this your fling. Service is decent given the crowds.

I walked in on a cold day and sat at the bar to have a warm. This was my first visit and I knew nothing about Tomaso's. The bartender/owner said "we're known for our thin crust pizza." I ordered the "Lunch Special" 10 inch Thin Crust Cheese Pizza. It was thin and crispy with a savory, slightly sweet sauce. It hit the spot on this chilly day. I'm keen to go back and I know exactly what I'll be ordering; 10 inch Thin Crust Cheese Pizza. Nothing exotic just darn good pizza.

Toppings are good, sauce is good, dough is disgusting and bland. Employees (especially the old bar tender) are ruuuuuuuude. It's also overpriced for the quality of pizza.

There is 'one star' in this rating because I couldn't figure out how to go on with 'none'. I have never in my life seen poorer service than they have here. You have to go to the bar and get your setting, your menu, your drinks, your food, your napkins and what not. There are no signs saying this but after you sit for a while it becomes apparent. Then when you go to the bar to turn in your order, you end up just hoping it got logged in and you'll eventually get some food. My wife and I sat there for a little over an hour and never even got our salads. When I'd try to get the owners' attention I got a disgusted look. Three different parties which entered after us were served before we even got salads. One thing I noticed is that most who walk in are friends of the owner. I have no complaint about this method of doing business but I believe you should put up a sign which says "If we don't know you, let's keep it that way".

I don't understand why the guy with the ponytail is allowed to deal with the public. He is so RUDE! he shouldn't be there.I won't go back the guy is loosing money for who ever owns Tomaso's.He just lost my business &I will spred the word not to go there.I asked about a food item if the kitchen could season it with salt.He told me "No,do it myself at the table" He said they wouldn't know how much salt to season it with.REALLY?! Then get a better cook.RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!!!!!

Just can't seem to figure out why everyone loves this pizza so much. The service piece is a bit confusing, but easy enough to understand. I am talking strictly pizza people, its just "ok". I have had better. The thin crust is good, but nothing special and the deep dish is doughy and marginal as well. The wings are weak (wasn't expecting much with them though) as well. Its an "ok" pizza with odd service. I prefer Sal's over Thomasso's.

Yes, their pizza is good. Yes, their bartender is a complete asshole. Yes, you should order takeout.

The 2-star rating is mainly for the completely disrespectful rude male bartenders, one of them being one of the owners himself. The pony tail guy mustve learned this in his training. Weve been coming here since we were kids. As much as we enjoy their pizza, we vow never to return! I refuse to spend another dollar at a place that treats customers as they do! They seem annoyed that youre there, if u dont understand their ordering system or god forbid, youd have a question. Try it if you dare, but trust me, dont waste your time or money! Its a bit of a drive, but our go-to hands down favorite pizza place is random lake pizzeria! The owner tom puts his heart into his food, making from scratch dough, sauce & ice cream! Hes super friendly & also very grateful. Give it a try & the houghty touhty arrogant pricks at tomasos can close their doors!

Best pizza ever. If you don't want the sauce on top get double cheese. Gotta go with the thin crust.

I need to point out some specifics on why I really enjoyed this place: 1. The bar was super comfy. Big padded stools and bar. 2. Brewer's game was on 3. The head bartender stands behind the bar and orchestrates the food coming out, "large cheese!" Then, you have to get up and pick it up. I see some people have reviewed him negatively. Those reviewers just have thin skin. Enjoy the dive bar ambiance. 4. Sauce on top of the cheese...brilliant. I inquired about this and the bartender explained the advantages of sauce on top. Dude knows his cracker crust pizza. 5. Sauce has a great twang to it. 6. I was inspired to create food adjectives like "twang."

I went here for lunch the other day and did not encounter the "a$$" bartender everyone mentions. We had a lovely lady behind the bar that explained the process. The process is this: you order at the bar, serve your own drinks, get your own silver/plate, get your pizza when it's up. Basically, the bartender does not come out from behind the bar and there is no server, so guess what? YOU get to be the server for the day. I was annoyed only because we were on a work lunch with four of us and we didn't know the "drill" so I kept having to get up to get everything. I think we would have preferred to go someplace sit down and someone waited on us but obviously we didn't know before. Now I know. The pizza was REALLY good. Seriously awesome. It is thin crust (my fave) and if I lived in town I would def be getting take out. The price was really reasonable too.

Ordering your meal here takes a little adjustment. If this was your first isit, you have to watch and see others, go to the bar and order your food and than pick it up at the bar. We had several appetizers but the toasted ravioli was under cooked and just cheese no meat available. The potatoes with bacon and cheese, seemed to be a strange liquid cheese, nothing like we have been use to. The pizza was very good, although use to cheese being on the top not the bottom of the pizza. The pizza was thin and cracker like, very good. Had chicken wrap and again very good and tasty. Overall it would be improved if a wait staff could be involved, but that's the stick here. Would come back for pizza, but will try new places next visit.

If you want pizza with sauce that overpowers with tomato paste and a thin deli slice of cheese UNDER the sauce then this is your place - and a rude manager to top off the experience. If you crave cheesy, tasty pizza with fresh ingredients - well, you will be sorely disappointed. Can't imagine why anyone returns?!?

  • Becky S.

I would have rated this 4 stars if the ambiance and dining-in experience were better. We ordered the thin crust pizza with mushrooms, onions, and artichokes. It was really good, however I wish the chunks of artichokes had been bigger. The salad was okay, maybe because the fat-free ranch I put on was not good at all. Definitely recommend trying a different dressing. The inside of this place is dark and dingy and service is pretty much non-existant. If you are wanting a meal where you want to be waited on, don't go here. You have to order, pick up, and pay at the bar. Want a free-refill? Walk your a** to the bar. I think next time I will take out.

They offer Gluten-Free (GF) pizza and GF beer (Redbridge or New Grist)--something I wasn't expecting in a small town in Wisconsin. Even better, the pizza is DELICIOUS. There is a small upcharge for the GF crust but it is one of the best I've tasted. Each additional topping is .50, including extra cheese. One of the people I dined with said that they "skimp on the cheese" but as someone who maintains a low dairy intake this suited me just fine. The menu is a bit disorganized and don't count on a healthy selection of non-greasy appetizers. It is a seat-your-self/check with the bartender for seating restaurant and I could see how if you didn't arrive with a local you might feel a bit indimidated by the set-up at first. You can share a picture of tasty beer like Spaten or if you're looking for something more family-friendly, they've also got Sprecher root beer on tap! Writing this review makes me wish I hadn't forgotten my Tomaso's left-overs in my friend's fridge this weekend.

For local pizza, this is as good as it gets. It totally has that "Neighborhood pizza joint" feeling inside and the pizza is awesome! Thin crust or deep dish, you can't go wrong! The deep dish is different from Chicago-style, and very good in it own way. Gets busy on the weekends, but is worth the wait!!

    (5)
  • Jason W.

I go there for their deep dish. Their thin crust is ok but could use more cheese...this is Wisconsin. The owner isn't the friendliest at times but we don't go there to be entertained.

I came here for the first time about a week ago. It is a local, small town, family restaurant, but the pizza is so good that it can hold its own with some of the best restaurants in Chicago! The staff was really friendly and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I'd like to come back soon.

It has been said several times, but it bears repeating - this is a bar/restaurant that serves food, but does not cater to your every whim. We have gone here enough now where it is actually part of the experience to watch newcomers enter and fumble around. "Where do we sit?" "Where's our server?" "Why is the cheese on the bottom?" "Is that our pizza?" Trust me, it's fun. Once you have it down, expect nothing but the crunchiest thin crust pizza you have ever had. There are two other incarnations of this restaurant that are much newer looking with friendlier people (West Bend and Mequon) that use the same recipe for their crust, their sauce and the same cheese on the bottom technique. If you don't like the local bar experience I suggest you go there. Me, I like feeling like a local and watching the others try to figure it all out. Oh and by the way, even our first time in this restaurant, the guy behind the bar was fine. He didn't kiss our ring or courtesy, but he took our order, set our food out when it was ready and rang us up as soon as I came up to the bar - what else do you need?

Grew up in town and have always loved the pizza and the unique dining experience. I can see how people might be put off by the service, but the place is really just so small it would be impossible to actually have waiters come to the table. I for one prefer this set up because you don't have to tip much if at all. When it comes to straight pie talk, this tops almost any pizza I've ever had and I've lived in Chicago for several years. Tomaso's thin is what you call "St. Louis Style" pizza, so its hard to compare with with harder, thicker crust of a "Chicago Style Thin" (don't confuse with Chicago Style pizza which is deep dish and completely different). Not much here (Chicago) can go toe to toe with Tomaso's thin crust. Just about the only place you can find an equal or superior thin crust is in St. Louis. Oh and by the way, best toppings combo (thin crust) is double cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and olives. The double cheese is essential!

Tomaso's was, well, odd. It began when we walked in at lunch time and the woman behind the bar told us to come and let her know what we wanted to eat when we figured it out. We ordered, she put in the order, then put our drinks together and called us over to get them from her. When the food finally came out (which took WAY longer than it should have considering we were the only people in there when we ordered), she called us up again to get the food and take it back to the table. We had to get our own silverware, condiments, and when we wanted refills, we had to go up and get them. Odd. The food was average at best. I had the meatball sub. The meatballs were dry but the sauce was tasty. My husband had the Italian beef, which was dry without the "ju," but he says the ju was like liquid steak -- which I assume was a good thing. My mom had the crispy chicken salad with bleu cheese dressing. The salad was obviously out of a bag and the chicken fingers looked straight from the freezer section. I'm not a big fan of bleu cheese dressing to begin with, but this looked way too thick, like mayo with a sprinkle of bleu cheese. We did not have the pizza, their claim to fame. If I'm ever back I think I will try another one of the nicer places in town before going back to Tomaso's.

Sorry to all you big fans of this place...while you may think the pizza is great (which I would argue) I STRONGLY RECOMMEND ONLY DOING TAKE OUT HERE. The owner/guy who runs the place/bartender is a total dick. Look at my other reviews. I don't call many people out by person, but this ass is beyond anything I've seen ANYWHERE ELSE. He is totally rude. TOTALLY. This is not like a game face he puts on either--I get the real feeling this guy is a total jerk to everyone he comes across 24/7. He is dismissive to customers and treats them like stupid children. He has never done it to me because I honestly think he can tell I'm not ever up for his crap, but I've seen this guy give his unfounded attitude to 16 year old girls asking about a side salad to 60 year old women asking a question about what beer is on tap. Mind you, I've seen attitude...in like Chicago or L.A., but WTF...this is Cedarburg dude! C-e-d-a-r-b-u-r-g. Home of Strawberry and Harvest Festivals. Home of caramel apples, antique shops, the winery, parades and fireworks in the park on the 4th, cute inns and coffee shops...and so much more...the quintessential USA smalltown city. How this guy's garbage has flown so long there I don't know. If you have ANY SENSE look elsewhere for pizza in Cedarburg. There's a few down the street to the south, one is named Sal's. I refuse to set foot in this idiot's place ever again. Let alone, the place is a DUMP. Oh, and you serve yourself. Which is a lot of fun too because you have to deal with Mr. Ass barking out "Pizza!" and you have to guess if he meant you or one of the other dozen tables. And for what it's worth, the pizza sucks. You Cedarburgians that think this place is like the Taj Mahal of pizza are off your rocker. Take a trip to Chicago and see what REAL pizza is!

One caveat to this review - the key to this place is not to go in and eat in the pub - you need to do takeout. I've gone to Tomaso's since I before I could walk on my own - and while the quality did dip for a while, they've done a good job of picking up the slack again with regards to food quality. Yes, Ray Thomas and the other goofy bartender both suck in the personality department (I swear that's more the result of getting stiffed on tips from the people in town for years and years, but that's only a theory...). But really you can't argue with a good pizza, and Tomaso's has plenty of that. I visited in September and it was like heaven all over again - just the right amount of cheese and sauce with plenty of toppings to your heart's desire. I did notice that they've stopped wrapping their pizzas in paper and have moved on to boxes - so I guess there's been some improvement in their process as well. It looked like the process is essentially unchanged otherwise - specifically, there are still a bunch of kids from CHS hanging out making pizzas all night long. Anyway, the takeaway is this: call in your order, go in the door, and turn left (to the take out window) and never set foot in the bar (which is to the right) - your experience then should be an excellent one.

Great sauce. On thin crust pies, the sauce is on top of the cheese. Both thin crust and pan pizzas are great here.

I try to stop in every time I'm in town, usually for lunch. The same guy is always working. The personal pizzas are well done, they have local beer on tap and wine from the winery down the street. It's pretty small and I often see people walk in and out because there are no seats, but it's worth the wait. There's a funny little history of the local area on the back of the menu from a decidedly Eurocentric point of view. There's always a game playing on the 13" TV over the bar. This is a friendly little place that I can't recommend enough.

    (5)
  • Gfiddy F.

Interesting pizza and quite good. The crust manages to be crusty with a hint of softness inside - I'd say it is unique. The selection of beer on tap is also quite good. I've been eating here all my life so I'm biased I guess. But I also know what I'm talking about.

I was excited to go here, but was shocked at the style of service. Since it was first time, I didn't understand the procedure of serving yourself. We got a large deep dish pizza and a 10 inch thin crust. The bartender was soo rude, wow. He seemed annoyed when we placed our order. When the food came out, we were missing toppings and the cheese wasn't "on the bottom" of either like the slogan claims. Also the crust was tastless. But we didn't complain about the toppings mostly because I didn't want to deal with the bartender. Won't be going back, so sad I really had high hopes as a new Cedarburg res.

It's been a while since we ordered pizza from this location and just don't remember the thin crust pizza coming with the sauce on top..... Personally I like the cheese on top of my pie, not on the bottom. The flavor was ok, but the appearance was pretty weird looking. Next time I send out for pizza, it won't be from here.

  • Katie W.

It started with the bartender saying "we don't have anywhere to put you". My group elected to stay although I wanted to leave. We had 6 in our group and they weren't very helpful with getting us seated...we did it ourselves. The cheese shaker on our table was dirty. The plates were cracked. The pizza was only ok at best. The sauce is way too overpowering! Definitely won't return.

We ate here last year and it was good. It wasn't fabulous, but for Italian food in rural Wisconsin, it did the job. I do remember the crust was good, and the portions were normal human sized and not the usual trough of food you get in the Midwest which is a plus. If you find yourself in Cedarburg, you could get a nice meal here.

Nice place to stop in, have a bottle of wine, and enjoy the atmosphere. The restaurant has a beautiful copper ceiling and was very festive with the holiday decor. Enjoyed the pizza, the crust had a smoky flavor likely due to the brick oven. The menu explains exactly how to order (at the bar), and yes the male bartender was a little rough around the edges as cited in previous reviews.

Tight squeeze, especially on a Friday night at Cedarburg's Wine and Harvest Festival. Six of us crammed in a booth ordered one large vegetarian and one large cheese and sausage. Three different parties which entered after us were served before we even got salads. One thing I noticed is that most who walk in are friends of the owner. I have no complaint about this method of doing business but I believe you should put up a sign which says "If we don't know you, let's keep it that way".

The bacon cheeseburger pizza is second to none.

great pizza...the staff is grouchy. Salad dressings are from a bottle, old lettuce...but I just go for the pizza.

Simple. Solid. Super.

Best pizza in town! A lot of people talk poorly of the bartender Jim (ponytail guy), but if you ever want to hear such a complete history of the town through someone who has lived here his entire life, Jim is the guy!

Interesting pizza and quite good. The crust manages to be crusty with a hint of softness inside - I'd say it is unique. The selection of beer on tap is also quite good. I've been eating here all my life so I'm biased I guess. But I also know what I'm talking about.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
