Jim & Kathy’s Bar & Grill

Jim & Kathy's is a nice bar and grill. The food is great and it's reasonably priced. A friend and I stopped on our way through from Minneapolis on a Thursday evening. The burgers were delicious and not overly greasy. The place is also very clean and well kept. There's no wait staff (at least when we were there) so you order your food and pick it up at the bar. They had a dart league that met shortly after we arrived, but the noise level stayed low enough the we could talk across the table without shouting. If you're just passing through the area, they are located a bit off the Interstate following dark country roads until you get into town. Jim & Kathy's is definitely worth the side trip if you're on the road and in the mood for a burger and a beer.

My husband, daughter, and I stayed a Sunnyfield Farm for 2 days. We were greeted by Susanne, the owner, and her two dogs, Sandy and Max. It is a beautiful home in the middle of the country. We stayed in the Rose room which offers a queen size bed and two twin bed in an adjoining room. It also comes with a private bathroom. The Rose room would be perfect for a family with children. It was decorated with antiques which you will find throughout the home. Susanne offered a cheerful face and candid conversation, but also left you alone when you wanted to get some quiet rest or time with family. The main 3 rooms are on the 2nd floor and there is a private apartment on the 3rd floor. On the 2nd floor, there is a "community" room with games, books, and a television. There was another couple and a single guest staying while we stayed, but we hardly noticed that they were there. Breakfast was delicious. The first day we had pancakes, bacon, and an egg, sausage, and pepper hash. She also offered an apple cider syrup. The second day she made us a breakfast pizza and offered grapes. We were a little sad that we did not get to try her "cranberry" breakfast. The other couple was talking about it at breakfast the first day. I think we will request it the next time we stay. For the 2 nights and breakfast, it came to 168.80 ($80/night + tax). I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast if you are in the area and want a nice peaceful place to stay. It offered a sense of home that you certainly do not get at a hotel. Although we didn't get a chance to try them, she had a sauna and hot tub available to use for her guests. A couple tips if you do stay here (maybe I just needed them because it was my first time at a bed and breakfast): 1. She only offers breakfast. For lunch and dinner you are expected to eat out or otherwise find your own. There is no "community kitchen." You are also not allowed to store things in her refrigerator (I believe it's a health code thing). We did not realize this and brought food to fix for dinner the first night. She actually ended up cooking the food we brought for us which demonstrates her hospitality, but please keep this in mind if you stay here. 2. She does have 2 dogs and a cat. All are well behaved and friendly (even with children), but if you have allergies, this is not the place for you. 3. It is customary to leave a note and a tip thanking her for her services. (My husband has stayed at other BnB's and of course didn't let me know until the last day when I had little cash on hand.) 4. You need to pay her prior to leaving. We made a reservation on-line and assumed that when we put in the credit card number it was charging us. However, this is only reserving it, it doesn't process a payment. You will need to actually pay her at the house. She does have a credit card machine, so you can pay with a card if you need too. Her website is very useful and offers a lot of information. For my first experience at a BnB, it was a memorable and good experience. If given the opportunity to stay at a BnB again, I will definitely pick one over a hotel. **I would have given it 5 stars, but I don't have anything to compare it to. After I stay at another BnB, I'll re-rate it if needed.

Stopped for lunch. Rolf's sauce on the burger was very good. The burger itself was very good. I would stop again and next time try their beer. The red cabbage was very good.
Good German food, good salad bar, great service, nice quite atmosphere. I highly recommend it!
(Back in January, I set out on a road trip from the Twin Cities to Toledo, Ohio. I decided to make it a culinary trip, visiting six restaurants between St. Paul and Chicago. I tweeted reviews at the time in 140 characters or less, but here is a more extensive review) "German Haus 4/5 Authentic german food, beautiful restaurant. Juicy wurst, sweet potato salad, strong beer cheese soup. Weiner schnietzel!" First off, the map on Yelp doesn't show the proper location. It's very easy to get to, once you get off the highway you head towards US-12 and take a left. It's across the street from the BP. The address is correct on Yelp, but I'm not sure why it shows it farther north. Anyway, don't get lost! After I found the place (not sure why I missed it), I was welcomed in. Wasn't sure how hungry I'd be after already eating twice, but I shrugged it off. Inside it is pretty beautiful with red chandoliers. Looks like it can be used as a beautiful banquet hall. Anyway the food. Since I haven't been to a german restaurant before, I wasn't sure what to get. The weiner schnitzel? Wait that's not a sausage of some sort? Hmm. I settle on the bavarian grill which gives me an option of three meats, the pork chop, brat, and the pork weiner schnitzel. So I learned a weiner schnitzel is simply a piece of veal pounded thin, breaded. In my case the veal was substituted with pork. Not bad, could have been more tender. I tried the soup of the day, which was a beer cheese soup, which wow had quite a strong flavor. I actually kinda liked it, but your mileage may vary. The potato salad was surprisingly sweet. The pork chop was cooked well yet still juicy and tender, a treat to eat. And the brat well, tasted like a darn good brat to me. I'm starting to get a bit full. So if you're on the road and are craving some authentic german food, make a stop here (exit 55 I believe) and split some dishes.

I went there for the fish fry. Very cheap. For six something you get three piece cod, fries and slaw. The fish was very good (homemade) but the fries were or-ida like. I actually didn't have the slaw. I didn't realize you needed to go to the salad bar and get it (salad bar was extra). The beer selection is non-existent. They had Blue Moon on tap though. Eagle's Nest has a small motel on a small flowage offering a variety of outdoor activities - hiking, ATV, canoeing, etc. The bar/grill area offers breakfast in season and has a vintage bar/coffee area. A very local crowd. I would have rated two stars but the fish was very good. I thought the fish fry experience would have been better. Probably would go back to try breakfast taking a leisurely UTV ride.

Tons of good brats and a ton of good beer. If that is what you are craving in the little mountain German town this is the place to go.
This place needs help. The indoor decor needs a lot of updating. The music that was piped in is aged. Very Lawrence Welk. The food was disappointing. The service was slow but friendly. The place has a lot of potential if brought up to date.
Yuck!!!! I know German and that is not it... The service was great, friendly, and polite, but YUCK!!!!!
