Just crushed a "Big Rockdale". Listed at 10oz, it was closer to 12. Every aspet of the burger was legit (cheese melted just right, fried onions perfect, bun toasted and meat cooked to med. rare.) Service friendly and attentive. I was in and out quick but will be back without question.
It's hard to believe that this is the first review of Heather's. This is a little gem in the Middle of Nowhere. Sure, the locals will tell you that Rockdale was almost the Capitol of Wisconsin...but it's located in a tiny little village just outside of Cambridge. One of the few little rural watering holes I've ever experienced that embraces 'city-folk' with open arms. Not one of those bars you walk into, conversations stop, and everyone turns to look at you. That said, it is a bar of local farmers, laborers and folks from the area. But the classic mid-western friendliness is alive and well at Heather's. Perhaps because is is so close to Cambridge, which has a tremendous amount of tourism in the summer, or perhaps because of the owner, Heather, whom I've never heard a disparaging word out of her mouth for as long as I've known her. She greets everyone with a smile, a sincere 'hello', and follows it up with a stiff drink and a massive amount of food if you're hungry. The food is tasty, but if you're watching your weight (or your arteries) you've come to the wrong place. Her Rockdale burger should probably be outlawed in most states. Delicious, but roughly a ton of ground beef on a bun with all the fixins' and enough fries to put most people into cardiac arrest before you can say "Uff-Da". For most normal people, it's enough food to feed an entire family for a day or so. She also serves up some wonderful specials. My favorite were her gyros. You'd never expect an amazing gyro to come out of a little, rural bar...but she's perfected the art. Certainly worth trying. The staff that surrounds Heather is just as friendly and accommodating as Heather. Drinks are served up fast, strong and with a smile. While largely a 'beer bar', they actually have a fairly good selection of liquors. Frequent live music (ranging from bluegrass to 'Harley Rock' to top 40 DJs), incredibly cheap drinks and food, and...when I was last there...WiFi (just in case you like to drink and surf like I do). The view off the back patio is stunning, and there is ALWAYS something going on. This is really one of these little rural dive bars that is a dying breed. Walk in the door, and you're an equal. If you're friendly, the patrons are friendly. If you're a pompous ass, you'll get confronted. So, if you're in the area, want to hang out with some down-to-earth people (who happen to wear cammo baseball caps, just finished milking cows, and will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about football, deer hunting and fishing), then stop on by. Well worth the trip to the Middle of Nowhere.
Heather's bar may be a little out of the way, unless you golf on Wednesday evenings with the guys for $5.00 golf night! It resides in Rockdale (don't blink) just outside of Cambridge Wisconsin. It's a great place to go for a beer or a burger. They have many specials including one of our favorites,... Gyros! Come to Heather's and feel that warm county welcome! Laura S. Baker Ready? Gorgeous B&B in Cambridge! We've stayed here twice, once in the fall and once in winter. Both times were absolutely excellent! Duke and Mary Jane are wonderful hosts, and make the best breakfast I've ever had (Quiche, Heirloom Tomatoes, Sausage and Chocolate Cinnamon Coffee Cake and the second time Belgian Waffles with Strawberries, Sausage, Orange Medley and Chocolate Chip Scones)! We stayed in the Cambridge room which has a whirlpool tub among other amenities. The stay is always relaxing, they have a heated king bed which was nice and toasty in the winter. They have a great selection of DVD's or cable for you to relax and watch. The Inn is close to downtown Cambridge and within walking distance of some great bars and restaurants. We always go to dinner at The Keystone Grill, which I highly recommend as well. This place is wonderful, you should check it out!
A lovely getaway half an hour from Madison! Located within walking distance of downtown Cambridge, in a residential neighborhood, the Oscar H Hanson House is well-kept and charming. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by the owners, both of whom were incredibly gracious and welcoming. We were given a tour of the common areas which offered a coffee machine, comfy seating areas and a mini-fridge stocked with ice cream bars (ice cream bars?! The Mister decided he was moving in at this point). We stayed in Ana's room which is located on the first floor, overlooking the back garden. It was lovely to be able to pop out back from the sliding door and enjoy a drink on the front porch. It's a quiet room, off the kitchen, so it's private. A full Jacuzzi was big enough for two and the king size bed was definitely comfy. No need to get dressed, breakfast is served in your room, left outside your room on a covered tray, ready when you are. On a Sunday night most of the fine dining options in the area were closed so be aware you may be driving into Madison if that's your thing (that's not to say there weren't food options, just not fancy/romantic open on that day). We decided to pack a romantic picnic and bottle of wine to sit on the porch instead, which worked out perfectly on a summer evening! We were thrilled to be there and would not hesitate to return.
I just finished my second stay at the Oscar H Hanson house. This visit had me in the Townsend Room, also known as the bridal suite. I had this glorious room to myself and temporarily dubbed it "The Princess Room". Again, the food was delicious, the room was restful and cozy during the rainy night, and the innkeepers were warm and welcoming. It was nice to return from a work setting to a home setting...even though I was hundreds of miles away from my own home. Thank you, Duke & MJ!

Attempted to go there today for lunch. The manager refused to take our Groupon, and then proceeded to get the owner on the phone. The manager came up to me and said "I am not getting a satisfactory answer from the owner, so will you talk to him?" When I took the phone the owner introduced himself as Jeff and then proceeded to explain how they lose money on Groupons and despite what the certificate says in the fine print (where it details how they must accept the certificate), that they were choosing not to. When I questioned him about this he said "Are you seriously going to press this issue with me and make us lose money?" He was beyond rude and unprofessional. I will NEVER take my business to anyplace he is affiliated with.
I enjoy a good latte in the morning..... Unfortunately they don't make them well here. Save your $5 if they're your thing and head somewhere else! Is a vanilla latte really that hard to make? C'mon!!!
Cute cafe, epic bottled beer selection, and enough rental gear to outfit me and friends when we went, after a brief wait for some other folks to come back. The gear seemed fine, comfortable, it worked, and seemed pretty new. The skis weren't the skating kind. It's right across the road from the start of the trail, which is a couple of miles long, quite flat, and very nice at least for beginners. The food was good too, nice fresh soups, and fresh, warm flatbread for the pizzas and to dip in the hummus, which isn't real hummus, but is tasty.

Best pizza in Cambridge!
OK, I have to say their pizza is good, and I am from Chicago (Do you know how it kills me?1?!?) Typical bar food and it's close to my house, what more can I ask? Also, they had a pretty good jukebox and little led ice cubes a couple of summers ago.
The achingly friendly service, as is customary in this part of Wisconsin, makes me feel prematurely guilty for posting this negative review, but it must be done. Sometimes I feel like cutting country restaurants a break because it's hard to get good or varied ingredients, but Wisconsin should have no problem at all getting good beef and cheese. My patty melt's marbled rye was burned, the meat, ordered medium-rare, came out at least medium-well, and I couldn't detect the Swiss cheese promised on the menu. Just American (for . It came with a big pile of likely Lay's salty potato chips on top. I can't be too angry at it for $5.50 or whatever the total came to, but they could do much better.

It's not often I come to this neck of the woods. While driving through Cambridge I was on the lookout for something local for a bite to eat. I spotted this restaurant and it looked pretty appealing from the outside. It was a long brick building that looked nicely refurbished. The inside was also nicely done and they have several sections, a couple of large dining areas, an outdoor patio, a bar and what looked like a small eating area. Inside ws very nicely done with dark wood and forest green and white walls and trim. The menu was limited. Basic bar food with a few spins to it. Burgers, pizza, fried foods and the like. Very lean on salads. I ordered a veggie hoagie, some of the others in the group ordered burgers, shrimp and crab cake. They have a full bar but as I was driving and it was lunch time, I had water. We started to get annoyed when it took so long for our meal to arrive, it was not just a long wait, it was ridiculous. Almost an hour for bar food. When the food finally arrived the results were mixed. My veggie hoagie was very good with nice bread and well stuffed with cheese and veggies, however the chips that came with them were stale. The person who ordered the shrimp basket was disappointed, the shrimp were tiny, literally popcorn shrimp. The person who ordered the crab cake was also disappointed. She let me try some and this was more like fried crab dip rather than the lump crab cake we are used to. Those who ordered burgers were reasonably happy. The burgers were reported to be good, but you really have to be a total f... up to screw up a hamburger. Only the nice setting and location saved this place from a one star. Food was inconsistent and service was terribly slow. I'd come for drinks but not to eat.
My wife and I stopped in as we were walking thorough Cambridge. We seated ourselves and immediatley were met with a great waitress. Came out right away with coffee and ordered. I travel ectensively throught the US, this was one of the best skillet dishes I ever had. I would return again any time. Keep up the great work!
While driving thru Cambridge around 9:30 AM,became thirsty for a bloody mary, and this place is in the Mad City Cocktail book, and it was the only place open before 10AM,so......Sat down at bar with companion. No bartender!? Turns out she was also the breakfast server and needed to tend to those duties first..In spite of wearing at least 2 hats, she{Jenny} did her best. There was no evidence of other help or a management person.. Bloodys were average. My companion had a screwdriver.$ $4.46 for a screwdriver!? Yes $4.46...They tack on tax which is one of my real pet peeves at a bar[usually reserved for franchises]..She had no idea on prices and of course needed to rely on computer..All in all a barely acceptable experience.

Great pizzas! On your leff as you head west out of downtown Cambridge Wisconsin. Sorry to read some bbad recurs Wehave never had a bad pizza
Absolutely delicious! ! We had the chicken, bacon, ranch pizza.....and OMG!! It was awesome!! Allan was super helpful and nice! Eat pizza and ice cream here, you won't regret it!!
This place is terrible. Despite the fact that their posted close time is 9 pm or 10 pm depending on the night, they regularly shut down well before then. Don't bother calling after 8, all they offer is ice cream. Its the only thing in town, and that's why it stays in business. Owner could have a better business on their hands, but it's clear there is no supervision of the the managers or employees. Pizza is mediocre at best, and often is cooked poorly. Underdone crusts, like the staff is in a rush to be done for the night(see also, closing early), is a common issue. Avoid at all costs, and go to the closest store open for a frozen pizza. It's cheaper and better quality.
