Mahi Mahi wrap and Santa Fe salad were excellent. The guacamole was made fresh but was just OK

Great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some of their entrees have a spanish flair but if that doesn't work there is plenty of good dishes on the menu. Seems like there are always specials.

Breakfast - fantastic Irish skillet and stuffed potato omelette. Great service and atmosphere, very clean. Highly recommend. Received this giant fried ice cream free for checking in - thanks YELP!

I love the food here. And the service is great! Last week I ordered the shrimp tacos for my daughter and I to share. When it came, I realized the sauce would be a bit too spicy for my daughter. I was scraping the sauce off as the waitress walked by. She stopped when she noticed what I was doing, and offered to get me another taco without sauce. That was very nice, above and beyond. And she didn't charge me for it.

I'm a little picky when it comes to how my chicken is prepared in Mexican dishes. I don't like the fact that they mix in dark meat with white meat in their chicken dishes. I prefer all white meat in my burritos, chimis, and enchiladas. This will need to change before I return.

This place is not very good . Very very loud . The service is pretty good , but the food isn't great . The "aged" beef is awful . I had a burger with said beef and it tasted like it had been left on the counter for a month before it was cooked . Atmosphere is alright , the Decor is also pretty well thought out .

5/16/15, Sat, 4:00-5:00PM [Found this place on Yelp! to have a light meal in between games at a local baseball tournament.] FOOD Very Good! Table of 5 had 2 orders of kid's homemade chicken strips and 1 order of kid's grilled cheese with bacon with fries and soda/lemonade, 1 order of cheese quesadilla with a full order of fresh made DELISH guacamole and chips (in addition to the complimentary chips and AWESOME roasted tomato salsa), and 2 bowls of chicken dumpling soup with another grilled cheese with bacon and a couple more beverages. Everyone definitely liked their meals! MENU Steps above good pub food with great selections of American and Mexican pub fare. ATMOSPHERE & CLEANLINESS Comfortable, clean. SERVICE Excellent. Attentive. If we lived closer this place would definitely become a regular hangout!

I wish I could say nice things about this place, but I can't. Other than the drinks, this is nothing more than a place that serves bulk stored food (translation... frozen, comes from cans). There isn't anything fresh about their menu EXCEPT the fresh made guacamole. I've read other reviews, the salient points are inconsistency, nothing to rave about, meh service. On my last (and final) visit, I ordered "fresh" boneless pork chops. First, the ticket time for my meal was TWENTY EIGHT MINUTES. If anyone knows the food industry, they know that's absurd. The waiter was very obviously avoiding the entire area around my table while this was going on. I couldn't figure out why it was taking that long, but I just let it ride. Once the food came, I knew right away why it took that long. They had to THAW the pork chops... And they were pretty freezer burned. I could tell they were frozen just by the VERY packaged shape of them. Funny thing was, told my waiter to take them away after two bites, he did... then the manager shows up and asks what the issue was. I told him the problem and he just said, "oh ok, i think those are fresh cut".... YOU THINK? Don't you run the fucking place? So obvious he didn't have anything to say, he was caught. I also said "fresh" chops don't take 28 minutes to table. Said he was sorry and left. Didn't offer to buy a drink or comp a dinner.. Just, ok bye. The challenge is, this is Burlington Wisconin (NOT a foody town). Your options are VERY limited. The other "family" restaurant called Charcoal Grill is on the same level and is dirty and gross inside. If you HAVE to eat in Burlington, my recommendation is wait until you're not in Burlington or until you get home.

FEELIN LUCKY This is one of those times I wish I didn't have to write a review but I kind of need to get out my feelings. We had this place bookmarked forever. We've read all of the amazing reviews. We walked in with such high hopes but left not feeling very happy about our choice for dinner. I have decided to break this review down into 3 categories and I will rate each area because everything was not bad. FOOD The menu had a lot of options to choose from. There were steaks, pasta, burgers & Mexican food. We really came to this place for Mexican. Of course we started out with chips & salsa. The chips were okay. I did like the smokey chipotle flavor of the salsa. The free salsa was my favorite thing I ate here all night. I love burritos! Our waitress helped me pick my meat. She told me the carnitas were good, so I decided to order them. The burrito was packed full of meat but that wasn't what the menu said. The menu said, "Large flour tortilla stuffed with lettuce, pico de gallo, chihuahua cheese, refried beans & carnitas. Served with rice & refried beans" So I am writing this review and realizing I only got a giant flour tortilla loaded with just meat. There was NO Pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese or beans inside the wrap. In fact, I tried giving it some flavor by spreading the guacamole, sour cream & salsa from the chips on top of it. I have no idea why all the ingredients were missing. The rice & beans were on the side. All I can think is the cook forgot to put everything in there or I received someone else's special order. I was really let down with the burrito. I felt really bad for my wife. She had a long day at work and just wanted enchiladas. That is what she always orders at a Mexican restaurant. She told the waitress enchiladas but the waitress somehow heard quesadillas. The waitress knew there was some confusion and pointed at the menu but in the dimly lit restaurant my wife said yes. I wish I would have jumped in to verify. So it was kind of surprise to us when cheese quesadillas showed up. The quesadillas didn't even look good. We really don't send stuff back and my wife felt bad. She blamed herself for being tired and not clearly seeing what the waitress pointed at. My wife won't make that mistake again. She also made the little one promise to make sure Mommy never gets quesadillas in a restaurant again. Now if I was going to evaluate the cheese quesadillas from just looking at it. They looked lonely. The food didn't jump out at all. It looked kind of blah. I know they are quesadillas but for $8.99 they should have been amazing. I did take a bite and it was nothing special. I could have made these at home for $0.79 and we could have saved $8.20. My little one got the soup and salad. The ranch dressing was terrible. I'm not a ranch fan but it was not really good at all. I am so glad we got it on the side. She also had two soups...the chicken dumpling & chicken rice. According to her the chicken rice was her favorite and the chicken dumping was extremely salty. So the two stars in my review is for the food. We really wanted Mexican food & this place had great reviews. Typically reviews are spot on but I have to disagree with most of the amazing food comments. Maybe the sandwiches and steaks are better but I'm not sure. We came here for great Mexican and that is not what we got. DECOR This is Wisconsin & most businesses do not throw money into fixing up a joint. A lot of thought went into decorating this place. The booths was comfy and the space had a rustic feeling. So I give high marks on putting this place together because visually it is beautiful. But I can't eat the decor & I have to stick with my lower stars. SERVICE Our waitress was really sweet and attentive. Probably some of the best service we've ever gotten in Wisconsin. The low stars in no way reflects her service because she was really good. We did have the confusion on the ordering but my wife blames herself. A weird thing happen at our table right after we sat down. A manager came over to our table and said, "I heard you didn't like the sangria...." I responded jokingly with didn't like it...I never even got it. Our waitress ran over & told him he was apologizing to the wrong table. It was suppose to be the booth behind us. It was really awkward to hear his speech again. In fact, he apologized later to another table nearby. So I wasn't the only one have issues. We also received a free fried ice cream for checking in on Yelp. Our waitress had no idea what Yelp was & had to call a manager over. He knew immediately that we were Yelpers. This is not a good thing when you've just eaten subpar food. He turned on some charm and I could feel it. That charm was coming from the fact he knew we used Yelp. It just felt so rehearsed & forced. I could have complained right then but I just wanted to leave & never come back. I wasn't feeling lucky at all.

Lucky Star is awesome. Every time we go there, whether it's for brunch or dinner, we have great food and service! I highly recommend Lucky Star!

  • Melissa S.

Solid tex mex style with a killer chicken mole. Nice drink selection and home made guacamole at your table. Barbacoa enchiladas one of my favorites. Sunday brunch is average with classic eggs, pancakes etc. thank goodness you can order off the regular menu any time. The main dishes are what put the star in Lucky Star. And if you have room try the fried ice cream. Despite its name it's not really fried but coated in crispy corn flakes sitting on top a truly fried buenuelo also known as a thin tortilla fried and then coated with brown sugar and cinnamon - all topped off with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Ask for spoons to share unless you really don't want to.

This used to be called White Fox Den and it was better back then. I do not like their quality of food. The prices are about the same as they were when it was White Fox Den but given the poor quality the prices are too high in my opinion. The new look is drab too. Not saying I wouldn't go here but it definitely is not near the top of my list of places to go.

This is my favorite place to eat in Burlington - love their soups (just not cream soup) guac is made to order and delish also the kids burger is a hand patted awesome burger - my absolute favorite breakfast is only available weekdays and on specials menu - it's a must have - not sure if I'm spelling it right though Chille Quilles and add skirt steak!!

I was traveling and the place was recommended by someone who knew someone that liked the new remodel and food. It was average, Fish tacos on hot tortillas with spiced cabbage sounded good after the free chips and bland salsa, lucky to have hot sauce on table to bring spice level up to a one...weak. Tacos came out cool, not good for fish, No spice on cabbage, how easy is that to mess up. So low ratings from me, easy dish, poor performance. Good drink selections, good bar service. Sides of rice and beans were the high light of the meal....they were good. When traveling I try to get back to give the place another shot, but in this case it may be a while.....TV in bar saved my night. The free Ice cream, a nice touch to have you leave with something OK.

Not real happy there. The food really leaves me cold. I can not tolorate spicy food and it is soooo noisy in there. They did a remodle but not really as it is still dark and unwelcoming. They cater to the bar crowd and if I wanted that would go to a bar.

Impressed! Thought this was going to be a revamped White Fox. No idea it was Mexican style food, but decided on something different, instead of the same old places. We were promptly and warmly greeted at the door, and shown to our seats in the bar area. I tend to fancy the rustic look, and this was pretty cool. Not your standard Texas flash n flare. Kind of reminded me of a Mexican cantina, warm colors, caballero flare on the walls, and TVs galore! Our waitress came to us right away for our drink order, and gave us a run down of the specials, than gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. I have a food allergy, and asked for certain things to be left out of my order, and being very attentive, everything came out perfect! If you check in with Yelp, you get a free fried ice cream! Who doesn't like free?! This thing was enormous! Delicious as well! I will definitely go back here again, and recommend it to anyone who wants something out of the ordinary, away from the normal fast food choices, but still wants good food, hot, and fast!

The fandango burger will change your life. Best burger in Burlington, makes Freds look like the Packers when Rodgers gets injured. The fajitas are awesome, great seasoning, and a great cut of meat. Not that nasty chewy cheap stuff. The parmesan crusted chicken is all my GF will order, she absolutely loves it and we come here just for it. The chicken dumpling soup in great too. Best restaurant in Burlington for the food. There are times the service has been marginal, but the talent pool is small in this town.

I love this place. my only negative comment is that you cant get breakfast all day. in fact, anywhere in Burlington. I wish they would bring breakfast back all day, anytime, at least a few breakfast dishes. i could eat breakfast every day all day long. that being said, i LOVE the new inside and outside buildout. so much nicer than before. the outside patio is great during the summer months. the staff is VERY well trained. Most of the time the service is amazing. Lucky Star has the best soups in town, and 4 a day plus chili and baked french, which is actually 6 a day. great salads, specials, and amazing drinks. must try the bloody mary or any of the mixed special drinks. fantastic happy hour prices most days both at 5ish and late night 8ish. i think they have a fab thing going. great affordable prices. i wish it were less of a mexican themed menu, but hey, i keep going back because every time i get good service, good food and a good price. items i have enjoyed on a regular basis; soup (fantastic every single day), burritos, great burgers, and breakfast of any kind but the has is fantastic!!!!!!! not canned. i want this business to do well and be around forever. love it!!

Went there for dinner this past weekend, was not sure what to expect since I am not from the area. I was very surprised. Inside was saloon decor, smelled awesome and the employees greeted us very nicely and with a smile. We had a larger party and we were seated right away. I was very surprised at the variety of food. I had the fajitas which were awesome, someone else at the table had a hamburger, then a couple people had salads. All very good and quick. Prices were very good as well. We will for sure be back!

In Burlington, traveling for business and tried this place based on the Yelp reviews. What a good decision. The place is really unassuming from the outside but holy crap was the food fantastic and the service was excellent and on top of everything! The menu is mostly mexican with some burgers, seafood and pasta. No salads unfortunately. Upon being seated in the bar I found a menu with a few specials. I tried the Barbacoa Enchiladas - best enchiladas I have ever eaten. The meat was smoked to perfection, soft corn tortillas, topped with their cream sauce and the most delicious cheese (not the cheap shredded junk). The side of rice and beans were just as tasty. The rice is normal spanish rice but the refried beans were the real deal, not the gluey stuff out of a can. I didn't try the chips and salsa because I was trying to save room for dinner. The guys beside me at the bar had them and kept mentioning how good the chips were and the server brought out a handle of different salsas...I'll have to check it out next time. The beer selection is good (Guinness on tap so I was happy :) Whether you are in for business or a local I highly recommend this place!

I was really shocked by this restaurant! My in-laws live a few blocks away and we decided to go here and the Mexican was quite good.....and this is coming form a hard core south side of Milwaukee Mexican restaurant guru. The Margaritas were good, along with the guac and Chimichangas. I will be back!

    (5)
  • D W.

Good service, very good food, and reasonable prices. Try the skirt steak and eggs for breakfast. They give you an extra egg with all breakfast orders (3 rather than two), and the skirt steak is awesome. Good pancakes too. Chimichangas are also very tasty. If you like drinks, the Long Island ice tea is a full quart at a very reasonable price. Great place!

Eaten here quite a few times. I find the food just ok. Breakfast is better than dinner, but nothing is all that great. Standard tex-mex fare in the evenings.

Food was good. No other location in this area has the made to order guacamole bar like this so that was really a nice surprise on the first visit this afternoon. Service left a little to be desired. I had to request to go containers on three separate occasions which delayed departure and never received a soda refill. These are little things that can certainly make a difference.

My husband and I eat here on average once a week. This is only because of the great food and awesome service! The made to order guacamole is the best, and we go to lots of different restaurants in Illinois and Wisconsin. The Tex-Mex dishes are excellent, and the burgers are great! They maintain consistent food quality and freshness, and are always welcoming and friendly. VERY busy on Friday nights!

First, the great - the frozen strawberry margarita was outstanding! If you have several people in your party who are going to have a margarita, get the pitcher. It's $26.95, but you get approximately 10 margaritas out of it, so it's a better deal then ordering individually. Three of us who were drinking could barely finish the pitcher. Our birthday girl got a free fried ice cream, which was super nice, and wasn't expected at all. Portions were good, and most of us took food home. Complementary chips/salsa on the table. Service was fantastic - the server was very busy that night and she did a great job. The soups are fabulous. Chicken dumpling, navy bean and cream of brocc the night we went - all were top notch. Several of us got burgers and wraps - all were very tasty. Steak fajitas were also very good, tender meat, carmelized onions/peppers, and a great side of rice/beans and topping for fajitas. Was able to get lunch the next day from the leftover fajitas. The okay - the petite ribeye (6 oz) was so thin you could see through it. What one person in our party referred to as a 'breakfast steak,' though she said it did taste good. I felt some of selections on the menu ($16.99 for a skirt steak, which is a cheap cut of meat) were overpriced. Very small portion of fries with the burgers/wraps. Chicken fingers were in a "batter" that was too thick for the girl who ordered them. And the the rest - this restaurant has a little bit of an identity crisis. It's very heavy on the mexican food (which is fine - I love mexican food), but It's a pub and grill. If you don't live in the area, you wouldn't even be aware of their extended mexican food selections. It's like a mexican restaurant that also serves burgers and sandwiches, with steaks as an afterthought, and some assorted pasta dishes thrown in for good measure. The steak/chop selection is extremely limited (as is the rest of the menu) - no t-bones, no sirloins. When someone at our table asked about the t-bone, he couldn't believe they didn't have it. I went out for dinner, and ended up getting a hamburger because there weren't a lot of dinner entrees to pick from, and I didn't want mexican food that night. There just wasn't much to pick from, so I ended up settilng. We had a lot of people in our party that night, and unfortunately, so did a lot of other larger tables. It was so very loud in there, we were actually yelling our orders to our server and could barely speak to each other. I don't know how you can fix something like that, but it affected the overall experience. Bottom line - drinks were great, food was good to so-so depending on what you ordered, and menu was limited. I know the locals (and I'm one of them) rave about this place, as it's been around over 30 years in one form or another (Lucky Star is the most recent incarnation). I just think it was better when it was a 'family' restaurant with a MUCH bigger menu and better prices. I might go back to try breakfast or lunch (when for me, a burger is expected), and I WILL get some soup because it's really, really good, but I probably won't go back for dinner.

Really great food, attentive and friendly service, love this place! I usually get the authentic chicken tacos, very delicious. I had the shrimp tacos a few visits ago, and they were also muy delicioso, but I didn't see then on the menu or specials list this visit? Good salsa, and guacamole is great! One of my favorite places to eat in the area.

I have been to Lucky Star multiple times by now and sadly I still have yet to enjoy a meal. Every time I have gone, I have had great service. The decor inside is modern and new, a slight country feel. When you are seated they bring out free salsa and chips. The salsa is homemade and taste awesome every time. They always have enough servers to take care of each customers. Now it comes to the entrees. I have ordered the chimichanga, burrito's, wrap, and french onion soup. Besides the french onion soup, everything is overpriced for the amount of food that you receive. Also the food always seems to be bland and not seasoned well. The french onion soup had onion chunks the size of a quarter and not even caramelized. The broth was way too salty also. The cheese on top was baked perfect though to golden brown. I am not planning on going again because of the mediocre food I have experienced a few times. The service is great, the decor is great, the food is not.

I was in town for business staying at the Hampton down the road. They advertised margaritas and offered a special by showing your room key so decided to check this place out. I order the platinum margarita and it was fantastic! Asked the bartender for her food recommendation. She suggested the Pollo Gordo. I didn't fully read what was cooked with the chicken in these fajitas, but wow were they good! I will definitely return to this place again!

When we first walked in there was a wait of about 20 minutes, which is okay but there is no place for you to wait. You stand right in the door way. When we finally sat down it took out waitress a little bit to finally come to us and get our drinks. THE CHICKEN DUMPLING SOUP IS AMAZING. They forgot our appetizer so I don't know how the wings are. I had the sirloin which was okay at best. No seasoning really. My girlfriend had the fish fry. The fish was good, after finding a scale. Her baked potato was under cooked. Then it took about five minutes to get a glass of water. Over all it was okay. Not really a place I am dying to go back to.

Finally!!! Someplace other than Charcoal Grill to eat in Burlington...We just had dinner at Lucky Star. First off, they did a great job on the interior of this place!! Thankfully, it looks nothing like the former Greek family restaurant that it use to be (not a hint of mauve anywhere!). Our server was Tracy and she was very friendly, chatty (which I'm fine with) and struck me as an experienced server. I ordered the Cactus Jack Wrap which was FANTASTIC. Honestly, much to my surprise, it reminded me more of a chicken burrito (which thrilled me!) - filled with yummy goodness...grilled chicken, black beans, pico, guac, and BACON. So yummy!!!! Their chicken tortilla soup was really good too. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their meals (hubby had a chimichanga, kids had a chicken ceasar salad and a burger). No complaints!! My margarita was delicious but pricey...$8.50 for a 12 oz. premium margarita. But heck, it's premium...I could have went with the house marg for $4.50 but decided to splurge instead. We will definitely be coming back.

What I had? Stuffed Potato Omelette (Stuffed with hashbrowns, bacon, grilled onion and cheddar cheese. Served with sour cream. Side of chopped fresh fruit Food review: Not my usual choice at what used to be White Fox Den but I went with the Stuffed Potato Omelette instead of the ham and cheese. Holy cow were things really stepped up with the new place or what. Really yummy omelette. Best one I've had in a while for sure. The quality of the fruit was so-so but that's to be kind of expected. Overall, I was really impressed with my breakfast here. Service? No complaints Other thoughts: Wow has the interior ever changed in this place. I have to admit it feels a little odd going in there for breakfast. :-) I grew up going to White Fox Den on occasion with my family. Never really had any complaints with the food there (mainly had breakfast and friday fish fry there). This is only my first time going to the new Lucky Star but I do have to say the quality is a bit better than it's predecessor.

I had no expectations when choosing this locale for my Mother's Day lunch. My goal for the day was to have a decent Bloody Mary...accomplished. The Bloody Mary had a southern/smokiness to it. The restaurant had a old west feel while the food was phenomenal. The barbacoa enchiladas with a poblano cream sauce were like no other. I couldn't have been happier with my experience. I hope others have similar experiences.

.This place is great to eat at..great drinks and food.Dino and Jessie are super nice people. There are some servers that need more experience but that is everywhere, just give them a chance to learn..:) anyhow..i highly recommend you try the fajitas and margaritas..yum And being a prolific yelper..this is my honest review of this establshment..when you have good servers, treat them with respect..when your yelling at them and treating them poorly, their service will suffer..that being said.. There are definatly some managment issues that include abusive language and singleing out staff for errors..why would you make a server pay 11.50 for a cheeseburger (yes tax included) that was made by mistake, when she makes 2.50 an hour and the resturauntwas dead all day..sigh. After all my years serving, i have NEVER had to pay for a mistake..unbelievable..

We went in here for the first time last Saturday and were back again this past Saturday. I absolutely LOVE the new decorating they've done in there. The first waitress we had 2 Saturdays ago was fantastic. This last waitress was OK. She definitely didn't seem as experienced as the other one and confused at times. The food was excellent both times. The only thing was this past Saturday we were baffled at why our breakfast was served on a HUGE platters this time instead of a plate. The platter made it look like we were missing food on our plate. All in all I would definitely go if you're looking for a nice sit down restaurant in the area. They definitely blow the doors off Charcoal Grill which is your only other option for a nice sit down dinner.

Eaten here quite a few times. I find the food just ok. Breakfast is better than dinner, but nothing is all that great. Standard tex-mex fare in the evenings.

Update. I have tried various items on their menu and have yet to find anything that is not great!

This place is not very good . Very very loud . The service is pretty good , but the food isn't great . The "aged" beef is awful . I had a burger with said beef and it tasted like it had been left on the counter for a month before it was cooked . Atmosphere is alright , the Decor is also pretty well thought out .

Great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some of their entrees have a spanish flair but if that doesn't work there is plenty of good dishes on the menu. Seems like there are always specials.

Great food and service! Thank you Yelp for helping us find this place! The Mexican food was awesome and great chips and salsa! We have nothing like this great place in Lake Geneva that is even close and great prices for the amount of food you get too! We will go back soon!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
