The food was outstanding -- better than the Dells location. The staff was very attentive and friendly. I'll be back the next time I am in the area.

Monk's. I've had one experience here. I'd spent the night in Baraboo with a friend who lives in town for her birthday. I ended up staying later than I wanted and was not looking forward to the drive back to my dad's place in Pardeeville to bed down for the night. Honestly, staying there was probably the smart decision to make anyhow, because even though I didn't feel at all drunk, I had been drinking. A couch has never felt more comfortable, especially while falling asleep to a Bond flick on HBO. We all slept in a bit the next morning, and we decided to get lunch before I took off. Monk's was the suggestion, and who am I to argue with my host? I'd had Monk's in the Dells and been happy enough anyhow. Here's my only complaint: when I phoned in the order the place was so loud that the bartender (or whoever I was talking to) and I were practically yelling at each other over the phone so that we could hear. If it gets that loud, they should really have a cordless phone they can take into another room or something. The food is actually pretty good, even on a post-drinking stomach. My cheeseburger was juicy and had a good amount of salt used to season it. Like Joanna T. said, their food appears to be made in house and not from some warehouse. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just like they should be. Even though I kept to a burger, and my friend and her boyfriend kept to tame stuff as well, their menu seems respectably extensive in terms of offerings. I wouldn't be opposed to making another order if I were back in Baraboo again.

I was pretty impressed with Monk's - it doesn't look like much from the outside but the interior is clean, bright and Badger-themed. We picked this place pretty much at random & had a great lunch here. First - they have a turkey burger. Extra star right there. And it appeared to be housemade and not off a Sysco truck. It was juicy, well seasoned and delicious. Second, all apps are available in 1/2 and full size so you don't HAVE to pig out. We tried a 1/2 order of cheese curds and it was quite a generous portion for $5. Third, their corned beef is legit. Hubs had a Reuben (recommended by our server) and he demolished it in under three minutes. Fourth - beer battered French fries. Finally, our service was fast & everyone here was super friendly. It seems like they have a good core of regulars (always a good sign) as servers were greeting people by name. Bottom line - its not a fancy place but if you're in Baraboo and looking for some quality bar food and maybe want some "healthier" choices Monk's will do you right.

Great place to eat. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon when the other local places had already closed. We have a baby so we did not want a bar like environment. Food and drinks were great here.

Stopped here for a quick stop after kayaking, awesome burger! Great friendly staff! Out side seating was perfect on this bright and sunny day! :)

We stopped in on our way to the Circus Museum, which was also great. Delicious food, casual place, great service, and we really appreciated the range of menu options, including several healthier choices like wraps, 4 different beef-alternative burgers, and salads. Thanks!

It was 2008. My bro and I took a trip to Devil's Lake for a weekend camping trip. It was our first time going there as adults. Last time we went before was back when we were kids. Anyway, we decided to check out the town. We were hungry, so, we came across this place. Good name. We walked in and sat at the bar portion of the restaurant. First thing we noticed was that people were smoking indoors. Then we came to realize, at the time, smoking indoors was allowed in WI (we're both from IL). Then, we were being helped by a nice woman. After taking our order, she puts the order ticket on some wire and slings it into the kitchen. I thought that was cool. It was a nice environment. Mostly covered in Wisconsin (Madison) flags and all, so I thought of it as a college restaurant. I think I ordered a burger (I always go for that every time I visit a new restaurant). Food was great, staff was nice. Nice restaurant in a small town. Next time I go camping at Devil's Lake, I'll definitely visit this place again.

Well the packer's scored a career high 55 points when I was there. That's got to count for something. The burger was also pretty good. Homemade chips were awesome too!

For me, Monk's is all about their Cubano sandwich. Pulled pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles & mustard on pressed Cuban bread. OMG so good! So flavorful! I wish I had one in front of me right now! Service has always been prompt and friendly. We've been back several times and everything has been consistently excellent every time. If I was forced to point out a negative, it would be that it gets pretty loud in the dining room, hard for converstation. But, its a sports bar and that's par for the course. Try the Cubano. You won't be disappointed.

Supposedly world famous for their burgers....I wasn't all that impressed. Decent for a place in Baraboo, but nothing special by any means. And if you ask for onions on it, you are going to get more onion than burger. Our bartender could have used a course in customer service as well.

Monks is always good, no matter the location. As far as Baraboo goes, this place is great! The beer battered fries are some of the best fries I have had anywhere. I had the fish sandwich, and the fish was also beer-battered deliciousness. They also have New Belgium Fat Tire and Hoptoberfest on tap!

Monk's is our go to spot for burgers and good beer in Baraboo. A busy spot on game days. Wisconsin's new statewide ban on smoking has made the place even better. Stop in and enjoy.

I went here for lunch today and I was very pleased. It is a badger themed bar/grill, clean, bright and inviting. They had a lunch special, an avocado BLT which was awesome. Their home made chips were really good as well. I am very happy that the one day a week I travel to Baraboo there is a great restaurant I can come and enjoy. I will have to try a burger to see how that rates. Only draw back was they were playing country music, but not loud enough that I couldn't tune it out. Will be going back again!!

The food and beer were good but it won't blow you away. It's a typical sports bar, although the interior is nice. I don't like the fact that everything is fried and there are few reasonable alternatives.

I was so disappointed. This place is on a quintessential town square. I love old fashion town squares. I went for the fish fry. Everything was great except the fish! For $9.50, you get great beer battered fries (or regular fries or Monk's chippers which I don't know what they are), cottage cheese, coleslaw or a basic side salad, a dynamite buttered dipped bread stick and of course the fish which is straight out of the box from the grocery freezer. The beer selection was great. The place is sport's friendly with flat screens every where, very clean and very much a place you'd want to hang out at. I'd go back for other things on their menu.

Ohhh, once upon a time der, in da days of yesteryear der, I used to be an intern in the Sauk County Government in Baraboo, Wisconsin, USA. Nearly everyday at the noon hour, I would saunter down to Monk's and sit at the counter and enjoy what I now know to have been the best chicken salad sandwich I will probably ever have the pleasure of meeting. Essentially just a regular guy sports pub on the town square of a historic old rural midwestern county seat, this place somehow knew how to do chicken salad, comprised of cubed up chicken breast meat and mixed with a variety of condiments including mayo, several types of mustard and a bit of horseradish and then piled high on a warm sliced croissant roll. They served it up with hot fries and a pickle. I have spent many years driving myself crazy trying to replicate their secret concoction of 11 herbs and spices, but, alas, have never duplicated the savory flavors and texture of that sandwich. Wonder if they still make it....
