Inn At Windmill Farm

Reviews:
Ed and Frank are two amazing innkeepers! Where to start? This was our second stay at the Inn, and found both stays to be exceptionally enjoyable. This is a small, 3 bedroom B&B farm house. It is located fairly central in the Door County peninsula, allowing both easy access to most places one would want to visit, and the most amazing star filled skies only available when you are not near a town. Staying at the Inn, a most wonderful and lovingly prepared breakfast is included. Fresh fruit, home made waffles, perfectly crafted scrambled eggs! They will also adjust per your needs or requests. Rooms are quaint, with just enough farm house character to make them fun, while allowing a good night's sleep on very comfortable beds fitted with soft, freshly laundered sheets. The gardens are welcoming and comfortable. There is a patio with delicious grapes hanging from trellises, and flowers everywhere. Just the right amount of artwork is scattered around, but the focus is always on the growing beauty. Ed is also a watercolor artist who teaches classes in part of the restored barn. His paintings can be purchased, along with a wide variety of antiques or artwork in their shop. All of these elements of the farm form a cohesive experience. Each part compliments the other, and even staying only a long weekend, our souls were nourished.

I was starving after kayaking nearby, so my husband and I headed here for a to-go lunch. When we walked in, there were only 2 other people sitting up at the bar, enjoying their beers. We walked up and were helped immediately and handed a menu. I ordered the special - pulled pork sandwich, and my husband ordered the brisket sandwich. And, because we were in WI, we ordered some cheese curds too. The food came out very quickly, packed and ready to go. The server was very kind, making sure we had everything we needed - ketchup, napkins, and forks (in case our sandwiches fell apart!). We were in and out in about 10 minutes, which I appreciated. When we ate the food, it was great. the cheese curds were perfectly fried and just hit the spot when dipped in ranch. Yum! My sandwich was good too. The BBQ sauce was served on the side, so I got to put on as much as I wanted. Yeah, I used the whole container of it. My husband really liked his brisket sandwich too, and he ended up finishing my sandwich because I couldn't eat it all! Definitely order out, as the ambiance at the restaurant isn't great (it kind of reminds me of a house that they just serve food in), but stop in.
Great views, tasty meals and very friendly service. We had the pastrami sandwich and brisket melt. Both were delicious with meats made on property. We ordered a basket of fries--hot and crispy hand cut with a little kick. They were some of the best I've ever eaten. Washed it down with some local beers which were probably the low point of the meal. We'll be back.
Stopped for lunch after reading some of the reviews. The only thing that isn't a "5" is the decor. It's a little Spartan. The sandwich, the soup, the french fries, were all perfect. Can't wait to go back. Whoever is in the kitchen is doing it right!

Blacksmith Inn On the Shore

Baileys Harbor, 54202
Reviews:
Located in Door County, Wisconsin, the Blacksmith Inn on the Shore bed and breakfast offers a relaxing atmosphere and great accommodations. Situated right along the Lake Michigan coast in Bailey's Harbor, our room was only 75 feet from the water. We enjoyed our stay in an time-period room (Room 6) with gorgeous woodwork and modern amenities including a whirlpool. A balcony with a hammock, two wooden lounge chairs, and an end table provided a great place to relax and get away from the big city. Staff is friendly, and they offer free use of bicycles and kayaks to get out and enjoy the natural surroundings. Peninsual State Park is within a 45 minute bicycle ride (15 min by car), and is worth the trip. The only downside with this B&B is the cost, it's pretty expensive, and lack of a hot breakfast. Luckily, we had a gift certificate from Select Registry, so we stayed 3 nights. Breakfast was more of a continental breakfast, which is dissappointing considering how superb everything else was.
I adore the Blacksmith inn. The rooms and building are quaintly but modernly decorated. The staff are beyond friendly, and the little extras like daily freshmade lemonade and popcorn are a real treat. You are also right on the lake, and can sit on the catwalk by the lake or use their canoes to go out on it. I'd recommend The Blacksmith Inn to anyone. You'll love it.
The attention to detail is incredible. The owners are hands on present, involved and good inn keepers. Yes, it's expensive, almost breath takingly so. But I have no qualms about spending money if I feel I got a good value. Immaculate rooms. No kids. Comfortably decorated in an Early-Americana-meets-Appalachia style. Go for the lodging. Go elsewhere for food, it's not a restaurant. It's an excellent jumping off point for almost any point on the door.

We had our wedding at Gordon Lodge earlier this month. We could not have had a better experience! Our suite, the grounds, the food, the STAFF!!! Oh my goodness, the Staff at the Lodge is second to none! Barb at the front desk is just wonderful and unbelievably helpful. Sandy was our main bartender for 3 of our events and she could not be more helpful, sweet and professional. Finally, last but not least, AMY GORHAM - she is the BEST event manager and made our wedding planning a fun process. She took care of so many details that I wouldn't have thought of. Our guests continued to comment on the beauty of the venue, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the amazing food!!!
Pretty wooded area along the north bay and lake. Several shorter private trails under a mile each, about 4-5 miles total if you go around the whole property. Single and tandem kayaks to use in the surrounding waters, bikes available to use on the trails or to get to/from the larger buildings and cottages. I stayed in the Stonecrop cottage. It was roomy and had great views and though on the older side, it was well kept. The woman at the front desk was incredibly nice and helpful! Only downside would be the standard prices, which are on the higher end. And the coffee is not up to my particular standard, but that may just be me.
Went to the Lodge this weekend for a wedding, and the views couldn't be beat. While of course I couldn't comment on the swimming situation (50ish degrees out and the pool was drained for the season) , there was a nice little beach and a lot of lovely views out over the bay-- really stunning. At night it's so nice and dark that you can actually see the Milky Way! The rooms are comfortable, and there are also lots of cabins. About four miles of trails to walk or run, and excellent breakfasts in the morning. Hope to go back someday!

Chives Restaurant

Reviews:
This is the best restaurant in Bailey's Harbor, which mostly has pubs and burger places (except for the Harbor House fish place). It's on the main street, with a view of Lake Michigan. The menu is unusual in that it doesn't offer appetizers, main courses, etc. Instead they label their food 'Small' 'Medium' and 'Large' dishes. The large will leave you enough for tomorrow's lunch. Food selection is interesting, ranging from burgers to steaks, spanish and asian selections. Great selection of beers and wine and attentive service. Two or three other restaurants have failed in this location; we hope they make it!
I couldn't stomach the thought of another fish fry or more gut-bombing WI food, and chose Chives for our last dinner during our stay in Door County. It was wonderful, and just about perfect. The ambiance, food, and service were all stellar. The seasonal menu has a little bit of everything: fresh fish, chicken, pasta, all made with local ingredients. Cocktails are great too. We started with the beet salad and a mixed greens with buttermilk dressing. The dressing was obviously homemade, and very delicious. My husband had the halibut, which was tender, flaky, and very flavorful; an excellent choice. I chose the chicken marsala, and I really enjoyed it. The sauce and mushrooms were very savory, and the chicken was moist. Perfect portion size too. Although we were too full for dessert, that generally never stops us when we see something we want to try, and the seasonal fruit cobbler (peach and blueberry) was gobbled up in record time. Chives is a wonderful addition to Door County, and a welcome respite from all the supper clubs that are so prevalent. Definitely the dining highlight during our five-day stay in DC. A little pricier than most restaurants here, but more than worth it.
Oh my mouthgasm bliss. Warm squash salads to blossom your mind with silky edible flowers and pine nuts. Goat cheese skillets with warm pita to warm the pallet, and they even made an old fashioned I enjoyed. I generally avoid them due to the oftenfuckup but this was perfect. Paleo and keto friendly options easily found.

This is a smallish and friendly place situated on the shore of Kangaroo Lake. A very pleasant location. The crowd was also congenial. Classic feel. I'm sorry to report the meal had more misses than hits. The menu was more varied than expected and there were a couple of vegetarian options (Quesadilla, portobello burger). First up on the miss list were the deep fried mushrooms; breading was undercooked, the oil still clingy, and at the bottom of the plate was a long dark hair. That pretty much ruined my night. In ordering my burger, no option for preparation was given (perhaps a blessing in disguise) and it arrived on the well side of medium well. Bun was substandard, off the cheap rack at the grocer. My son's Quesadillas were given a thumb's up (hunger-induced?) but there were too many basics missed to make me want to return.
Best ribs I've had in a long time! Seemed like more of a local crowd than tourist spot - which we loved!
Stopped by for lunch on their deck with a view of Kangaroo lake. Waitress was very friendly and made us feel at home. The open faced rib eye was fantastic! We will be stopping again.

It seems we always find ourselves coming back here for lunch when we visit. Why I am not sure as I'm not a big fan of kids, but it's a cool feel and the burgers are AMAZING! If you have children I HIGHLY suggest you take them. If you're not into kids, request to sit upstairs which is a little quieter. Don't be surprised if there is a wait. We will be back again!
This place is awesome! It's good food, good fun and very friendly people. A must when in door county!
If you travel through Door County with a toddler or young children you must stop at PC Junction. The food won't be the reason you stop, the atmosphere will be. Food gets 2.5-3 stars, sorry. The atmosphere gets 5 for kids. They have a bar that you sit around and a train goes around the tracks and delivers you your food. They also put a bubble machine on the train and other silly characters to entertain your children. My daughter loved it and got so excited every time the train went around. For once I got to eat my lunch in peace but unfortunately it was a plain old cheeseburger. At least I got to watch my daughters face light up in pure excitement and joy every time the train came around - priceless. They have a beautiful outside play place too. There was a swing set and peddle cars that you could ride around. There is also an arcade up a small flight of stairs that would be fun for older children or adults (like us) who want to compete on Extreme Hunter 2 arcade game. Food - average. Good times - for all ages.

Don't let the exterior fool you. It's just as eclectic inside. Typical local bar in WI. Adorned with tools, saws, horns, skins and just about anything you can bolt to the wall. A couple TV's on the wall too to watch a game. Ordered a drink and some curds(who doesn't order curds in a WI bar?). Curds were hot and fresh. Drink was well poured. From what I hear they have the best burgers in town. My next trip up I'll definitely stop in and have a burger, with a side of curds, of course. Excellent selection of beer and liquors, Super friendly staff and welcoming locals. If you are in Bailey's Harbor you must stop into the Blue Ox. Cheers!
My time at the Blue Ox was one of the most memorable times of my life. Urbanites and F.I.B.s ("friendly Illinois bretheren,") suspend your expectations. This is a true small town Wisconsin bar. There are horns, pelts, farm equipment, arcade games, and other kitchy things all over. It's their world, welcome to it, and enjoy yourself while you're there! The beer selection is very good . . . Capitol, Lakefront, O'sso, and New Glarus. The crowd is a good mix of open-minded tourists and locals. My husband and I stopped in there for a quick bite and a drink before heading to the Baileys Harbor 4th of July fireworks. He had a burger, which he loved. I had a fish sandwich. A little dry, but served the purpose. Of course, we had fried cheddar cheese curds, a must in any Wisconsin bar. YUM! The owners, Jason and Kelso, are super nice. I resisted the urge to ask him if that's his real name or a nickname from "That 70s Show," he probably hears that all the time. After ominous storm clouds rolled in, we found ourselves back here. We watched the fireworks through a thunderstorm on the porch of the Blue Ox, beers in hand. The crowd was singing the Anthem, and a few of us started up "America, F@$ Yeah!!!" What a night! Should we return to Door County, we would probably stay in Baileys Harbor, stumbling distance from the Blue Ox. Thank you, Jason and Kelso!
My experience was made by the bartender, who doubled up as the cook, and was fully honest and thorough about the dinner options in Ellison Bay on a busy Memorial Weekend. Kelso the bartender absolutely ROCKS THE CASBAH. You can even have your beer growlers filled with New Glarus! And we did!! He cooked the burger medium-rare -- which is hard to find nowadays -- and it was cooked to perfection. The cheese curds were delicious. Strongly recommend for those wishing for a casual dining experience with limited menu.

Been here twice. Both times phenomenal. From specials as delicious food for accommodating the kiddos in our party the service and the food is spectacular! I recommend the seafood pasta!
The food is great and the happy hour food specials are a great value. But you must try some of the specialty cocktails. Hopefully, Mindy will be your bartender. She is the best in Door County!
The restaurant is housed on a golf course and has a sort of country club feel to it. Charming yet dated decor and plays fun and fitting Sinatra style music while you dine. Our server was one of those...got the job done but would walk away before you could ask for anything else types. She was busy but slowing down a bit and giving your customers some personalization can go a long way. The food was very good. Fresh salads, good bread and the pastas were very well prepared. And hey... they offer reservations via Open Table which is rare in Door Co. So if you are In the mood for Italian in the area I would defiantly give this place a try.

This was our first visit. We didn't have reservations but we asked for table by the windows to see the great view of Lake Michigan. The staff went out of their way to seat us in the perfect spot. We started with the special, a seafood appetizer. A giant martini glass filled with oysters, shrimp , lobster claws and crab legs. Some of the best cold seafood I've ever had The oysters were so fresh and sweet, you would have thought we were on the ocean. My wife had pan fried walleye. She loved it. I had the halibut cheeks on angel hair pasta. It was topped with grilled asparagus. Everything was wonderful. It's unusual to get such fresh seafood in the Midwest. They also had a selection of fish from Lake Michigan For desert we split cherry bread pudding. Another Door county take on a traditional food by using local cherries. Again, very good. The wine selection also fit perfectly with the menu. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and an impeccable server. She was genuinely concerned that we have a great dining experience. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Door County.
We had a really nice breakfast here. Christopher had the cherry stuffed French toast and I had an Eggs Benedict type dish that included a slice of walleye pike. Both were quite yummy and the mimosas made with home made cherry juice was awesome. The restaurant was cozy and they play Sinatra music. Loved it. They were a bit pricey, but after all it was vacation time!
Amazing views and ambiance and amazing food. Prices are pretty reasonable as well! Must try the seafood combo app (apparently it's not on the menu).
