Of the two bars in downtown Avoca, Antler is the place to go for quiet conversation. The owner trains dogs, so expect to be barked at by a couple of German Shepherds when you walk in. They're sweet (and contained by the bar and a cage). The bar itself is well-lived in. Lots of pictures of dogs and pithy sayings the owner wrote. When I was last there, they had a chainsaw hanging from the ceiling that they were raffling off. There's a wood-burning stove that heats the room, a wooden piano, jukebox and pool table (not sure it's in use as it was surrounded by bags and other random items). The owner is welcoming and friendly. This isn't a rowdy bar - more like a coffee shop in a bar setting.
